Desktop Picture Changing Time

Do any of you know if there's a way to set the desktop picture to change slower than 30 seconds but faster than 5 minutes?
Is there a script or terminal command out there that will work?

Hi there,
Appears you can edit the...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
You'll need either Property List Editor, (part of Developer Tools installed), or PlistEdit Pro...

1 minute equals 60.00000 in Default>Change time, so change it in Seconds.

  • Desktop Picture Changes to Solid Blue Automatically

    I have never seen this problem. I have had one of Apple's standard black and white pictures as my desktop for years. All of a sudden (don't recall any changes to system) my desktop is solid "Apple" blue. If I change it to anything else it reverts back to the solid blue within a few minutes. I tried opening the console and viewing all messages to see if I could get a clue to what system call might be change it but I saw no messages occur as I observed the desktop picture being changed.
    Can anyone tell me how I might track down what is changing my desktop picture?

    Thanks, I should have thought of that.
    I tried it and it didn't work. My desktop picture changed almost immediately after logging in. but it did lead to the solution. I noticed that the desktop picture changed at the same time as Entourage Alert's launched (this was turned on the same day that the problem started. So I turned off Entourage Alerts and logged in and out. The desktop picture has remained as selected.
    I'm not interested in running Entourage so I don't care about the bug.

  • Desktop Pictures: "Change Pictures" in System Prefs no longer works.

    I used to have my Desktop pictures change every five minutes using a special folder of photos. This function no longer works. The setting appears to be in effect according to the System Preferences Desktop Pictures Pane but the function appears to be broken in 10.4.5. I have trashed the Destop Pictures Preferences file in the Preferences Folder, but it still will not work.
    Can anyone using Tiger 10.4.5 get this to work?
    Griff

    OK, that was really dumb!
    The reason for the problem became abundantly clear when I quit Pathfinder. Suddenly the picture change became functional again.
    So, I guess Pathfinder will not follow the Finder when it comes to settings like this.
    Hey Cocoatech, how about getting this into your next release?

  • Frequency of desktop picture change

    I have lots of photos I use as desktop pictures. I like my Mac set up so the desktop picture changes frequently, like a continual slide show. However, five seconds is too short and one minute is too long. Is there a way to "hack" the system preference so that I can set the change frequency for say, 15 seconds or 30 seconds?

    The relevant key section is at the top of my file. Did you already have a value set for the slideshow? Apparently the key is created when you first run the background slideshow. So, you might first set it and run a 30 second slideshow, then open the file and look for the key value.
    Mine looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
     <key>Background</key>
     <dict>
      <key>69473572</key>
      <dict>
      <key>BackgroundColor</key>
      <array>
       <real>0.0</real>
       <real>0.0</real>
       <real>0.0</real>
      </array>
      <key>Change</key>
      <string>TimeInterval</string>
      <key>ChangePath</key>
      <string>~/Pictures Folder/‚Ä¢Desktops</string>
      <key>ChangeTime</key>
      <real>1800</real>
      <key>ChooseFolderPath</key>
    So maybe that will help you find it.

  • Desktop Picture Change Setting

    Hello, Is it possible to adjust the settings of the Desktop to change the pictures say every 20 seconds. Now the settings are
    5 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes etc. Can this be changed?
    Thanks for the help,

    Several options are documented in another thread; the ChangeTime key is the time in seconds between changes.

  • Block Desktop Picture Changes

    We have around a 20 client network, with Snow Leopard Clients, and Snow Leopard Server. I need to prevent the desktop picture from being changed inside of the internet and in Finder and be able to push to the clients if needed. If not how to do it locally.

    Googled around a little and located [threadID=1801512|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1801512] and [threadID=1751944|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1751944], or the end of [this thread|http://macosx.com/forums/mac-os-x-system-mac-software/303929-disable-sav e-picture-desktop-tiger.html], or you can configure the login directory to reset each time the user logs in.

  • When launching Safari why does my desktop picture change?

    This is a strange one. iMac with 10.8.5 and the latest updates.
    Set the desktop to "picture 1." When I launch Safari the desktop picture moves to the left and establishes "picture 2" as the background.
    Only with Safari. All other apps do not do this.
    It is like it is doing "fast user switching" but there is no other user.
    Thanks for any suggestions

    Took a detour about this but am on site and looked for any pictures in the
    ~/Library/Safari
    None found
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Desktop picture changes without being set on random

    Hello all. My mac experience (3rd one) is becoming frustrating and I am debating going to the dark side. Always crashing unexpectedly. But the weirdest thing now is everytime I boot up, I never know which of three jpegs will fill the desktop screen. Could it be that after having to reinstall the OS a number of times because of other issues that there are a number of system folders running the computer? Can I find out? Any help appreciated and welcome.
    Please convince me that if I go buy a new mac I won't have these crashes and gremlin episodes or what can I do to make my old G3 run efficiently. I really don't have the dough to go new.

  • Desktop picture won't save

    Every time I turn on my MacBood Pro lap top, the desktop picture changes. I put the picture I want up, and then the next time I turn on the computer
    the picture is replaced by another one. How do I get it to save the picture I want on my desktop?

    You likely have a corrupted preference (.plist) file that needs to deleted and the machine rebooted, which will rebuild the preference file from a master copy.
    See #12/#13 here to find the corrupted ones.
    ..Step by Step to fix your Mac
    Then read here for how to remove it.
    Deleting the System Preference or other .plist file
    If you have done this and it still doesn't work, then go back and run through the Steps more throughly to be systematic.
    Sometimes the master copy of the preference file is corrupted, that may require having to remove all the user data from the account and deleting it, rebooting and then making the same user account again, or simply transfering all the user data to a new account.
    What this does is it rebuilds the master copy of the preference file, so that the copy of the preference file your using is also pristine and awaiting your new preferences to be stored in it.

  • Dock spaces desktop picture screensaver all crashed and won't work

    The Dock doesn't appear.
    Spaces is greyed out and won't stay enabled.
    Desktop picture cannot be selected (stays standard blue screen).
    Screensaver does not work and cannot set hot corner.
    I have deleted the dock plists, restarted, repaired permissions, updated to 10.6.8, restarted again. Still no dock, no Spaces, no desktop picture change, no screensaver.
    How did this begin? I had lots of large-memory apps running (eg. Photoshop, Garageband, Pages, Audacity, etc) and then there was a freeze, I can't remember which app – probably Photoshop) and I had to shutdown using the on/off button.
    After that startup, all the problems were present. :-(
    (I've looked at related Dock-crash posts here: I do not have installed: Parallels; Fusion.)
    How do I fix these problems?

    Hello, try this...
    First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
    Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

    I am wanting an app that will allow me more choices in changing the "change time" of my desktop pictures. 5 seconds in too fast, one minute longer than i want. I am looking for something that will give me a 10-15 second time.
    Any suggestions?

  • Every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac.

    Every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back.

    I would start with some basic troubleshooting.
    REPAIRING DISK PERMISSIONS -
    NOTE: refer to article "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature" found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452 - for the actual apple article on these step. ----
    - click finder in the bottom dock, and in the window that opens, select applications in the left column - scroll through until you see the 'Utilities' folder and double click to open it.  Then double click on 'Disk Utility'
    - When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column
    - ensure the the "first aid" tab is highlighted blue in the middle of the screen
    - click the button at the bottom that says 'Repair Disk Permissions'
    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying 'Permissions repair complete'
    Dan Frankes has written an excellent article for Macworld on "Permissions" and the need to repair them - see - http://www.macworld.com/article/52220/2006/08/repairpermissions.html.    Another good web site is - http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/durepairfns.html.
    REPAIRING DISK - About OS X Recovery - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718.
    - restart your computer hold down command + R keys on the keyboard to boot you into Lion / Mountain Lion Recovery mode
    - select english as your main language then the continue arrow
    - select "Disk Utility" on the resulting screen then 'Disk Utility' ---
    - When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column
    - ensure the the "first aid" tab is highlighted blue in the middle of the screen
    - click the button at the bottom that says 'REPAIR DISK' .......NOT "Repair disk permissions"
    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying "The Macintosh HD appears OK"
    If you get any other message OTHER than "The Macintosh HD appears OK", like "the Macintosh HD was repaired successfully" run the "Disk Repair" again, until it displays  "The Macintosh HD appears OK".
    Once done, restart the computer as normal

  • HT2478 how do you make the setting to change desktop background every time you shut down your mac

    how to make setting to change desktop background every time you close your mac
    because i want to make it if anybody tries to change my dekstop picture i want it to go backto set desktop picture

    Don't let other people access your Mac in admin mode - they might change something a lot more important than the Desktop picture.
    However you can use Automator: create an Application in it, and select 'Set the Desktop Picture' from the Library. Choose the picture you want. Save the application, then go to System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items and select the Automator application you just created. This will then run at startup and set your chosen picture.

  • How do I change the desktop picture on *all* windows with Lion?

    I'm sure I'm just missing a simple setting, but ...  I changed the desktop background to something I found I thought I'd like, using right click/use as desktop background.  Didn't like it.  Went to System prefs to change it, and selected the Pond Reeds pic that comes preloaded with Lion.  Great!  Except it only changed it to that in one workspace.  All the others still have the background I don't like, and going to each workspace, right clicking and choosing "change desktop picture" just shoots me back to the system prefs workspace and doesn't change anything.  What's the right answer   (It's an older MacBook Pro, but running Lion, just upgraded to it a few days ago.)

    Thank you!!!  I knew it must be something simple, that I just haven't had time to figure out yet (the day after I upgraded, my son went into the hospital and had to have heart surgery, so I haven't spent a lot of time getting to know Lion.).  Your help is much much appreciated!

  • Desktop Pictures Will Not change each day.

    I have System Preferences set to change the Desktop Picture each day. When system starts it loads the new picture and then the same one used before loads over it. I have tried to have it change at each login and the same thing happens. If I change it each hour, it works, but when I login each day the first picture starts the same at the last time.
    This just started happening a few days ago. It worked fine until then. I have deleted and replaced the com.apple.desktop.plist file several times with out any change in results.
    Thanks for any help.
    Fran

    I discovered that for this particular file if you check the "random order" box under Desktop preferences, then the pictures will rotate like the rest of the photo files in the collection
