Desktop picture linked to other sites.

I do not have a company website yet. Instead for the time being I would like to link pictures (that I have on my desktop) of products I have in develpment to sites like LinkedIn and Twitter. If this can be done please explain how. I have a Macbook.

I had this same problem which was driving me crazy !! ..I followed some of the suggestions and some seemed to work for a short while.. After a few days i have managed to succeed in stopping the redirects from happening ..what i did was this ..
I installed browser protect add on from the extensions page then i surfed the net for about 15 mins and constantly browsing and searching with google. I then clicked addons -extensions and options on browser protect.. in options you get 4 tabs look through them and you will see the offending search links ..Delete them all and leave only the ones you know are safe.. then browse and you will see you dont get redirected anymore ... check your options if you start to get redirected again and go through the same process and delete the suckers ...
This is the only solution that has really worked for me, malware scans virus scans and all the rest didnt work .. I even deleted firefox re booted and downloaded again only to find it started to redirect to some crappy "alltheweb2 links and some other links i cant remember now..
Give the above a shot it works !.

Advantages and protocol on listing a page of links to other sites

Hi, Once again, I have questions about my site www.freemodelguild.com. the question is more a general question for experienced web designers not about Muse specifically.
Most of the art groups in our area have a page that lists all the other art groups in the area, and so this organization is suggesting we do the same thing. I know having other links on a site can help with our search engine optimization, and we are trying to drive traffic to our site, so I think it's a good idea. However, should I just copy a list of all the other arts organizations? Should I write to their webmasters and ask them to link to us? Should I write and ask for permission to link to them? I just don't know what the protocol is.
Again this is such a non-web savvy group, they know they want a website, but have no idea what should and could be done so I've had wing this thing. I'm a print designer and, of course, things are done a little differently with print.

Generally you would have no problem adding links to other sites without asking. No website owner will tell you you can't as the more links they have coming to their site the better. I have always had mixed feelings on that type of thing. One thing to remember is the more external links you have the more work it is to make sure they all work. Dead links make your site look bad as well as bad for search engines so you would have to constantly be checking that the sites are still operational or the link hasn't changed.
So over the years I personally have found it better to just supply a small handful of links (maybe no more than 5) that I think will benifit my site visitors directly. Almost always it is a very well established long standing site so I know it is worthwhile/relevant and most likely not to dissapear.
Remember that when you do link to an external site to set the target to open in a new browser window. Also keep in mind that the more external links you have the more you are pushing your visitor to somewhere else.

Image Links To Other Sites

I have designed a website in DW CS3 and i wanted to make some
of my images link to other external sites......however when write
the link address in and upload the info then try the link it always
comes back with a blank web page with - cannot find URL - on
it...... any ideas, its really annoying me now. i'm not writing in

As tweaked suggests, the links to external sites should look
like this -

A site pops up on every text link on other sites, i have uninstalled, blocked it and removed cookies but cant stop the pop up

Every time I try to access any text link on any site, a games site popup appears over the lin so that I cannot access the link, only the popup.
I do not recall signing up for this site.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Everything I click on on any browser (including search engines, links to other sites, pictures, etc.) redirects me to a bogus spam site. What can I do to fix this?

Literally every single thing that I click on will redirect me to some bull crap website (ie. mackeeper, bullet flix, russian mail order brides). This happened once before but went away after I noticed that my firewall wasn't enabled. But now its back and really making me irritated since I can't do anything anymore without being led somewhere else. Please Help!!!

You likely have malware. To remove:

Tracking links to other sites

I would like to track how many times users of my site are clicking links that send them to other web sites. I use Google Analytics but it is not a part of it. I know that some people add code to their links for tracking the clicks.

This could be logged by linking to an intermediate page on your own site.
For example (if your server supports PHP), you could link to http://www.yourownsite.com/jump.php?url=http://www.facebook.com instead of a direct link to http://www.facebook.com
Then make a PHP file on your server called "jump.php".

Links to other sites are terribly sluggish

Since the installation of Firefox 10.0.1 links on websites or internal bookmarks are sluggish or don't work at all. If I copy the site address from the address bar, then highlight and "paste and go" it acts immediately, otherwise it just spins it's wheels. Re-loading does not help at all. While it's a nuisance, I do believe it should perform better

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Having trouble making my links to other sites open in a new window

On iWeb, on my Links page, I have ticked the box to 'open links in a new window' s that viewers aren't directed away from my set, however, when I visit my site this ahsn't worked - any idea what else I need to do?

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?
Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - reboot, launch iWeb, reset the links in the Inspector pane and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Are you referring to the checkboxes to enable synchronization of your Facebook® Calendar, Contacts and Messages when logging in to the application, or are you trying to accept a friend request from within the application when it closes?

Desktop Picture Unchangeable - SysPrefs Crashes

OS X.5 changed my background... grr... but that's ok, I'll just change it back, right?
WRONG.
I can get to screen saver, but when I click on the desktop tab in system preferences, it loads three nature pictures, and then crashes.
Needless to say, I'm pretty frustrated. This purple is fugly. Looks like Halo 2 decided to have a Catholic parade on my desktop.

could be a corrupt preference file. delete the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and log out/in. then try setting desktop picture again.

When I click on a link I get sent to a bunch of other sites and the problem doesn't occur when I use windows internet browser.

When I click on a link, whether e-mail, yahoo or other search engines, E-bay, Amazon, etc. I get sent to another site. If I click back and then re-click on the original site I get sent to where I wanted to be. While I am browsing on a web page of any of the above, or other sites, I sometimes get a voice ad or possibly a video, but I can't locate it or turn it off. This does not happen when I use windows internet, or it's Google chrome internet, only with Firefox. I have used Ad aware, and Mal-bytes anti-virus but they come up blank.

Link to other published web folder from within password protected iWeb site

I realise that you cannot password protect an iWeb site if it contains a link to an external page / file. However, I have a complex genealogy site that I had previously published to another site. I directly copied this folder to the iWeb directory alongside the folder for the protected site published from iWeb. I have tried all sorts of link URLs on the protected site page, trying to link to the genealogy index.html file. iWeb refuses to allow password protection or even point correctly to the site.
Does anyone know how to create a suitable link to a site folder created elsewhere?

I have a password protected site with a page that has a link to an ordinary homepage.mac.com page, with no problems. Could you provide more details on what is not working for you? Maybe putting your geneology folder in iDisk/Sites and linking to that would help?

When I perform a search, the hit list web links don't work but I'm redirected to some other site.

When the search results appear, I click on the link and get redirected to some other site (usually an ad or search site). When I hover over the link, the correct link is displayed but again when I click the link I get sent to some weird site. Any help is appreciated!

This may be caused by malware. try running several malware scanners, you need to run several as each one may pick up things the others miss. You can try the following scanners:

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you use a MobileGallery from iPhoto to house your photos and videos you can set it up in the settings so visitors can upload items to the gallery via email.

You can them embed the gallery in an iWeb page like this: MobileMe Galleries and Quicktime Movies.
I've not tried emailing a photo to a gallery so can't comment on how well it works.
For photo pages or album pages in iWeb visitors can add comments and attachments, photos, which other visitors can view. How they are added I don't know. Here's what the iWeb Help says about that:
