Desktop pictures do NOT rotate/change on secondary display

For some peculiar reason, my desktop pictures do NOT change / rotate on my secondary display.
I have a MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2007) running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I have dual displays. My primary display (the MBP screen) DOES change / rotate picture every minute, but I want my secondary display to do the same.
It seems that restarting does fix it, but only temporarily. I think it might have to do with plugging/unplugging the secondary display and sometimes if it's working, I disconnect and reconnect the monitor and then the pictures stop rotating.
All my desktop picture settings are correct in System Preferences. I tried unchecking then rechecking the "Change picture:" checkmark, but that doesn't fix anything. I also tried clicking on different folders in the left column of the Pref Pane, then clicking back on my chosen desktop pictures folder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I discovered that for this particular file if you check the "random order" box under Desktop preferences, then the pictures will rotate like the rest of the photo files in the collection

  • Desktop picture does not change as it should

I'm asking this for a friend.
Desktop picture is set to change every day, but it does not change unless she logs out and logs back in again.

Had her reset PRAM and that fixed things.

seems i was able to back up.
downloaded new software to desktop while BB was connected vis USA to computer.
    Solved!

Well the new Desktop Manager can ONLY sync up with a Media Card. You would need to download Desktop Manager 4 with Roxio Media Manager to access the device memory.

    Hello edolillo,
It sounds like you are wanting to use your iMac as a secondary display for your MacBook Pro using a Thunderbolt cable. If your iMac is compatible, you may be able to use Target Display Mode, and this article outlines the requirements for it:

  • Desktop Pictures Will Not change each day.

I have System Preferences set to change the Desktop Picture each day. When system starts it loads the new picture and then the same one used before loads over it. I have tried to have it change at each login and the same thing happens. If I change it each hour, it works, but when I login each day the first picture starts the same at the last time.
This just started happening a few days ago. It worked fine until then. I have deleted and replaced the com.apple.desktop.plist file several times with out any change in results.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Apple Desktop pictures do not appear in System Prefs

I tried to change my desktop picture and discovered that there are none of the apple images showing in the system prefs for Desktop & Screen Saver. The folders are there (Apple images, nature, plants, etc) but the folders are empty.
Digging via the finder I found in Library/Desktop Pictures all of the missing files but Prefs does not apparently see them.
The default Aurora was there after 10.5.5 upgrade, then I replaced it with one of my own from the user/Pictures folder which shows in the prefs window. All of those pictures still show in prefs.
    What is wrong?

Conclusion, there is now something about my account that no longer can see the contents of the Desktop Pictures folder. Why is unknown still.
Usually, a bad preference file or incompatible login item is the culprit, although it could also be corrupted data in a user cache.
For the first, you can try moving likely suspects from ~/Library/Preferences to a desktop temp folder, then logging out & back in or restarting to see if the problem is gone. If not replace the old preference from the temp folder to its original location to restore the old preferences. One general way that may help locate suspect pref files is to change the preference in the normal way while ~/Library/Preferences is sorted by date changed -- the file storing the preferences should be very near the top of the list.
You can also run a terminal command that checks the syntax of most preference files. It won't indicate all problems but it is worth a shot. In Terminal type:
    sudo plutil -s ~/Library/preferences/*.plist
followed by pressing the return key. At the password prompt, enter you admin account password & press return again. It won't be echoed to the screen. If you get nothing besides the prompt for the next command, those prefs are syntactically correct. Otherwise, remove the indicated pref file as above & test.
If desired, repeat this for the main system-wide preference folder with this command:
    sudo plutil -s /Library/preferences/*.plist
Note: since your new account has no problems, it is highly unlikely a system preference is the problem.
For login items, check the list in the accounts system preference. Suspect anything that isn't from Apple. You can list them here in a new post if you have any questions about them.
If the problem is a bad user cache, a third party utility like Onyx or Leopard Cache Cleaner will allow you to "clean" (delete) them. Try this as a last resort, since caches speed up the operation of your Mac & will need to be rebuild by the system, causing one-time delays until this is done.

  • Selected Desktop Picture Will Not Appear

I recently downloaded this picture from this site:
    http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details.php?id=654
I have done so on both my iBook G4 (12") and now my iMac G5 (20"). I selected the file for 1680x1050 to match my resolution settings.
I placed the file in the Desktop Pictures folder and opened System Preferences. A thumbnail of the image appears in the list of choices as the other images do and I select it. However, the image does not appear on my desktop, instead I get a solid default blue background and that is it.
Other images I have downloaded to not appear to have the same problem and I am able to open the picture with Preview with out issue. I have tried various File sizes and resolution settings with no effect. I did not have this issue on my iBook.
Any idea how to fix this?

    Hi, Jason.
I was able to reproduce the problem you are seeing with that image. I also tried the 1900x1200 download version: same problem.
I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that the details for the file (perform a Get Info on the image, open the More Info panel) shows:
    "Profile Name: Calibrated RGB Colorspace"
which is the ColorSync Profile specified in the image. I'm using the Cinema HD color profile with my 30-inch Cinema HD Display, so perhaps that may explain why the image cannot be used as a desktop image: lack of matching ColorSync profile.
I was able remove the specified ColorSync profile as follows:
    1. Open the file in Preview.
    2. Select File > Save As.
    3. Specify a new name for the file.
    4. Specify a location for saving the file.
    5. Select JPEG file type and desired Quality.
    6. Click Save.
I was then able to use the newly saved image as my desktop picture.
    Good luck!

  • Settings for desktop pictures will not save

The setting "fill screen" will not hold for the desktop pictures. It keeps reverting to "Stretch to fill screen"
This was happening on my old Mac (G4 DP 1.42 GHz Mirrored Drive Doors). I used the Target Disk mode to transfer everything over to this Mac Pro, and the same thing is happening. I'm guessing I have a corrupted prefs file somewhere.
I tried deleting com.apple.systempreferences.plist but the problem did not go away...
    Anyone have any ideas?

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.

  • Pictures will not rotate horizontal

Hello, I have an app that has pictures in it and I have 2 problems with it
    1.   When I select a picture form the collection, it opens up the picture.  However, when I  turn the device sideways, the picture does not turn sideways.
    2.  When browsing through a collection, say I go through pic 1, swipe and go to pic2, swipe and go to pic 3 then realize oh I want to zoom in, I double tap and zoom in pinch, etc., then when I am done with that pic, I hit the back and arrow, it
goes back a level, but instead of returning to the picture, it jumps all the way back to the picture 1 instead of picture 3.  Is there a way to correct this behavior to have it go back to picture 3?
Here is the app in case you want to look at it:

Some sites/apps allow that and some don't.  There's also a setting to lock the screen so it won't rotate, so check yours.

  • Airplay display issues: "extend desktop" not working properly. Secondary display continues to mirror.

Whenever I turn my airplay display on and set it to "extend desktop," my secondary display (TV) continues mirroring my mac book pro (hereinafter MBP). It doesn't fully mirror my MBP, but my secondary display registers every time I switch between my desktop 1 and my full screen apps. Moreover, When I do switch to a fullscreen app on my MBP, I get a blank (blue-ish) screen on my TV.
    Any solutions!?!
Additionally, "extended desktop" for my Airplay display worked properly when Mavericks was first released.

    Try this:
Click on the Apple TV Icon on the top toolbar
Then, select "Mirror Built in Display" instead of extend desktop
In the same menu under "Match Desktop size to:" select "Apple TV" (or keep it on "built in display if that works"
This solved a similar problem for me.

  • Why doesn't my desktop picture stay on my Macbook Pro Retina Display?

I select my desktop picture, and it puts it as it. But once I shut my computer off and turn it back on, it's back to the Lion desktop picture. But when I go into the system preferences, it says that my picture is the one that I selected before. I don't get it, can someone help? Are any of you having the same problem?

Try right clicking the picture and say Set as Desktop Background.

  • Desktop picture cannot be set - changes back to Imac default

I've had a new 27" Imac for two weeks, initially I could set the desktop pic and it would stay until I changed it. However in the last two days the pic keeps reverting to the default mac star sky pic after about 4 minutes. I have spoken with Apple care a few times and deleted various files so they could be recreated but with no affect the same thing keeps happening. Any help would be appreciated

    Hi Glen,
I have done as suggested, the picture lasted 2 minutes then changed back (1618 till 1621), when I looked at the console recordings there was nothing, so I did the exercise again (1623 till 1625), pic lasted 2 minutes then changed, looked in console still nothing there see below 11/12/09. I have also included some script from 10/12/09 - both seem to say they cant find path ?

  • Pictures will not rotate when phone is turned sideways??

Any help would be appreciated.  When I turn my phone sideways, pictures and videos do not follow suit and go full screen, they remain portrait.

  • I manage to put a picture behind the desktop picture, how do i change or put bake the color?

How do i change it back to the grey color?

Find out from your son how he did it and roll it back.  Without some plist manual editing or via other 3rd party tools, that graphic cannot be changed.  Your easy path for fixing this is to simply ask your son in a non-confrontational way... and you will even learn something he knows and you do not.  I know there's some tools out there that can do this, but I haven't done the legwork to dig them up, much less a trustworthy one.  Chances are good he read something on how to hack that on the system and made the change.  All you have to do is gain access to that same knowledge and presto, problem solved.
No, him saying "I don't know how it happened" is NOT an acceptable answer.  He'd only give you that answer if he has a reason to be scared of you or any ramifications if he fesses up.  Not trying to tell you how to parent, but if you can get that fear out of his mind, he'll tell you what he did and whatnot.  Hey, maybe approach it from the standpoing of... "Hey, that's cool, didn't know it could be done even if it's hacked like that, it would be nice to change it back or put another picture on there, etc."  That should defuse his fear...  Good luck and sorry I don't have a direct answer for you aside from this suggestion.  If I stumble across some docs on how to do this, I'll post it on here.
