Desktop pictures won't use all pictures in folder

When I created a folder in iPhoto of the pictures I wanted on my desktop, not all the pictures are used, only 4 of the 8 I put there. I deleted the preferences, logged out and in again, but the same thing happens. Then I deleted the number of pictures, but two of them still don't show up.
Can anyone help solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Joanne

Found an answer to my own question. Some pictures I import won't be recognized by iPhoto, but if I do an edit, then iPhoto does acknowledge them. After I slightly cropped each picture, they all show up, both in desktop pictures and screen saver.

  • Glitch with Itunes ScreenSaver in OS -- won't use all artwork?

    Hi Mac Peeps ---
I just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger (opted to wait it out a bit for Leopard) on my older 20" imac g5 1.8 GHz PowerPC.
Everything seems to work pretty seamlessly, I love finally having a lot of the Tiger features....but I'm having a hiccup with the "use itunes artwork" screensaver in the OS.
I have a TON of different downloaded artwork images within itunes for all of my music, but for some reason the screensaver only seems to want to display the ones associated with music/video that I downloaded from itunes itself --- not any of the CD's from my collection that I burned onto itunes, and then downloaded the album artwork for. Consequently, I have an extremely limited number of artwork images shown on my screen.....yarghhhh
This is really peeving me --- has anyone had to deal with anything similar??
Much obliged to get any guidance / encouragement / commiseration!

  • Time Machine won't use existing backup folder

Time machine gave me the can't find back up drive error. I did what the support site says, went into the preferences, and reselected the appropriate drive, but now it won't use the existing backup folder. It keeps making a new one called 'user's MacBook Pro 2'. How do I force it to use the old folder, so that I can access my old back-ups?

    gilesrulz,
First, you need to determine WHY it's not choosing to continue using the previous backups.
Has your computer changed in some way? Logic board replaced by Apple?
You reinstalled the Mac OS X system software?
*_Time Machine Always Performs a Full Backup After a Full Restore_*
Actually, this is normal. Anytime your hardware has changed, or you have reinstalled the operating system again, Time Machine will perform a new full backup. Consider the following according to the KB article below:
    *Full Backup After Restore*
Bear in mind that in all cases Time Machine will perform a full backup after a full restore. This is normal. Time Machine will resume incremental backups after the full backup has completed. To view previous backups, Control-click or right-click the Time Machine icon in your Dock or Option-click the Time Machine menu extra and Choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks," then select your previous backup volume. You will enter Time Machine and be able to browse your previous back ups and restore files. [http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1338]
So even on unchanged hardware, if you reinstall your system software and restore your user data, Time Machine starts anew, and you will not be able to resume backing up with the same history as the previous backups.
While there may be ways to fool/hack Time Machine into recognizing previous backups without performing another full backup, they are likely rather elaborate.
Ultimately, though, in a couple of months, all the effort to preserve old backups may seem pointless. After all, Time Machine will eventually purge away that data anyways as it replaces it with new files.
It may simply be easier to begin a fresh series of backups while saving the previous backups until your satisfied that you have enough history built up. Then delete the old backups.
    Hope this clarifies some things.
    Cheers!

  • Dock spaces desktop picture screensaver all crashed and won't work

    The Dock doesn't appear.
Spaces is greyed out and won't stay enabled.
Desktop picture cannot be selected (stays standard blue screen).
Screensaver does not work and cannot set hot corner.
I have deleted the dock plists, restarted, repaired permissions, updated to 10.6.8, restarted again. Still no dock, no Spaces, no desktop picture change, no screensaver.
How did this begin? I had lots of large-memory apps running (eg. Photoshop, Garageband, Pages, Audacity, etc) and then there was a freeze, I can't remember which app – probably Photoshop) and I had to shutdown using the on/off button.
After that startup, all the problems were present. :-(
(I've looked at related Dock-crash posts here: I do not have installed: Parallels; Fusion.)
How do I fix these problems?

    Hello, try this...
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

    Hi Terence,
I got your note and was able to complete the first part, but when I came to Finder, Go To Folder and I typed in both     /var/db/receipts/    and /private/var/db/receipts all I get is NOT FOUND message.  I tried several times, but no luck.
    Please advise.

I updated my Macbook, and All of my apple desktop pictures were deleted. How can I get them back?, I updated my Macbook, and All of my apple desktop pictures were deleted. How can I get them back?

    Oh!
First thing I think would be to do a search for the folder in case it's somehow got moved.
Failing that, you can retrieve the folder from your original installer disc using Pacifist.
Insert the disc (don't boot from it) and open the installer package with Pacifist. Navigate to the Desktop Pictures folder (might be a bit more fiddly to find in the package structure). When you find it, select the folder, right-click (or ctrl-click) and select 'install in default location' from the context menu.
Exit Pacifist and eject the disc.
    Best of luck!

  • How do I change the desktop picture on *all* windows with Lion?

I'm sure I'm just missing a simple setting, but ...  I changed the desktop background to something I found I thought I'd like, using right click/use as desktop background.  Didn't like it.  Went to System prefs to change it, and selected the Pond Reeds pic that comes preloaded with Lion.  Great!  Except it only changed it to that in one workspace.  All the others still have the background I don't like, and going to each workspace, right clicking and choosing "change desktop picture" just shoots me back to the system prefs workspace and doesn't change anything.  What's the right answer   (It's an older MacBook Pro, but running Lion, just upgraded to it a few days ago.)

Thank you!!!  I knew it must be something simple, that I just haven't had time to figure out yet (the day after I upgraded, my son went into the hospital and had to have heart surgery, so I haven't spent a lot of time getting to know Lion.).  Your help is much much appreciated!

  • Can't use set desktop picture

I recently upgraded to OS Maverick and when I set it up I was allready using one of picture that I just kept in folders (they were either downloaded from the net or I took with my camera and/or phone, I don't keep them in IPhoto)  . Then I transfered it to a Desktop picture that was provided in the Desktop & Screen Saver option on my laptop (I'm using a MacBook Pro laptop). Now I want to change it back to a picture that isn't in he Desktop & Screen Saver option but from a folder and no matter how many times I click it, it won't work. I even rebooted and tried again and nothing's happening. Please help!

    nevermind... fixed it

  • When i open Firefox i can still see my desktop picture, all the text on that opening page is on top of this picture

the search bar is there but other than that, as iv said, all the text is on top of my desktop picture, i have had a message saying something like 'Firfox cound not down load updates due to another instance of Firefox running please close this down' but i have not opened another Firefox (this message has stopped now)
Also i have tried to ask this question recently but when Firefox sent me an email to click on the link to publish it, i got a message stating 'Something is wrong, we could not activate your account please make sure you have clicked on the correct link in your email' (i bet it will happen this time as well, hope not) its ironic i got to use IE to send this.

Well got this sorted, i managed to pick out the 'help' section on my desktop when i opened Firefox (not an easy task as you can see from my screen shoot) saw 'check for updates' mouse clicked all around this statement (as there were no buttons) and was advised to update to ver: 3.6.16 now everything is ok, still dont know what the problem was but hey its fixed, put a system restore point in just in case. thanks all.

  • Desktop picture won't save

Every time I turn on my MacBood Pro lap top, the desktop picture changes. I put the picture I want up, and then the next time I turn on the computer
the picture is replaced by another one. How do I get it to save the picture I want on my desktop?

You likely have a corrupted preference (.plist) file that needs to deleted and the machine rebooted, which will rebuild the preference file from a master copy.
See #12/#13 here to find the corrupted ones.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then read here for how to remove it.
Deleting the System Preference or other .plist file
If you have done this and it still doesn't work, then go back and run through the Steps more throughly to be systematic.
Sometimes the master copy of the preference file is corrupted, that may require having to remove all the user data from the account and deleting it, rebooting and then making the same user account again, or simply transfering all the user data to a new account.
What this does is it rebuilds the master copy of the preference file, so that the copy of the preference file your using is also pristine and awaiting your new preferences to be stored in it.

When I opened iphoto this morning all my photos since April 2013 are gone. My desktop picture is still current but I can't find my pictures.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run  Option #4 to rebuild the database
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
    or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library. Select the checkbox to include orphaned photos.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Desktop Picture won't change....

My girlfriend just re-installed mac osx 10.3.9 on her ibook, and put some images on the computer to use as desktop pictures. Not only do they not change to them, but none of the pre-installed apple desktops work either. What could be the cause of this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Probably she has to check the owner settings and repair the user rights. If that doesn't help, delete the finder.plist and restart. Still no change, create a new user account and try to change the desktop picture in this account.
    It should work.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • I need to clear some of my mail and pictures because they're using all of my memory, but how?

I need to clear some of my mail and pictures because they're using all of my memory, but how?

Just open the "Photos" app, open the "Camera Roll" folder and start deleting the pictures you do not want to keep. For mails just open the Mail app and do the same, click edit, choose your emails you do not want to keep and delete them.
