Desktop Preview AGP only? What to do on MacPro?

Just upgraded from a G5 to a MacPro, using a second monitor desktop preview only shows a white box. It works fine full screen on the main monitor but not at all on the second - it's just DV footage and it always worked fine on the G5.
The manual says preview on a second or third monitor is only possible with an AGP graphics card, the G5 was AGP but MacPros are all PCIe - so I figured this was an out of date statement, there's no way to put an AGP into a MacPro is there?
The bummer is I paid extra for a second Nvidia card, waited for the custom build and bought a third monitor, then discovered it doesn't work, I have disconnected these and tried just the 2 monitor setup with no luck.
Thank for any help.

Thanks Jerry, I am completely stumped.
Yes it is DV and preview works fine on the main display (full screen)
I trashed the prefs - no change.
I disconnected the 3rd monitor (but left the 2nd card in place) - no change
I took out the 2 card - bingo! preview works as expected on monitor 2
Reinstalled 2nd card - preview doesn't work on 2nd or 3rd monitors once more
It seems no matter what I do if the 2nd graphics card is installed there is no desktop preview available.
Which is a shame as I paid extra (and waited) for the second card upgrade specifically to do this!

    It's "aspect ratio", not aspect "ration".
    It's what determines whether you have square pixels ("normal") or, if rectangular pixels, what the aspect ratio (width : length)  of that rectangle is.
    It's explained in the Help files.  I cannot go into more detail because you have neglected to provide information about your platform and exact version of Photoshop.

  • Digital Cinema Desktop Preview is missing

    I'm trying to solve this problem for about 7 days. I can't find anything about this topic. Lots of problems about capturing in FCP 4. I had this problem as well but fixed it, thanks too this forum.
    What's the problem now?
    I upgraded my Mac to Tiger 10.4.3 and I worked for about 2 weeks with FCP HD. Then I upgraded FCP HD to FCP 5. Now FCP only sees the Fire Wire external video when I go to the menu "View" and click "Video Playback". I used to see the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Main and Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-RAW options.
    I thought it was the same problem with Quicktime 7 automatic install again. So I manually installed Quicktime 7 without any success.
    I removed the preferences out of the ~/library/preferences/.
    My 2 screens are on the AGP-bus, because that is necessary I read on this forum.
    Can anybody give me a tip how solve this problem. If you need more info just tell me.
    Thanx in advance
    Maarten

    Jeff,
    First thank you for responding. It is nice to know you're not alone in this world when FCP let you down.
    I looked at the other post. I don't have the space which you are talking about. It's just the same as your screen shot. No line spaces.
    Maybe this additional info will be of any help:
    When I installed FCP 5 I got an error message the first time I started FCP 5. Missing Digital Cinema Desktop Preview. It was the same message you get when you forget to switch on your camera. It tells you that the Fire Wire device is missing. You can either click "check again" or choose "continue".
    After I choose continue I never got the message again.
    I checked if the /Library/QuickTime/DesktopVideoOut.component was missing. I found out that there is absolutely nothing in the folder /Library/QuickTime/ not the folder which is in the library directly under the root directory of the hard disk nor in the library which is situated under "user/library/QuickTime/
    Could that be the problem not only missing 1 file, but missing maybe lots of files.

  • Problem with Digital Cinema Desktop Preview on Macbook Pro

    I hava a Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz with 2 GB RAM. I would like to use a connected 24"-Display for preview of my HD-Material (ProRes and HDV). Unfortunately I am not getting my Macbook Pro to playback all frames. Whend Digital Cinema Desktop Preview is activated, there are only still frames displayed. No smooth playing back neither in the canvas window nor the 24" display. I have External Video -> All Frames checked.
    Does the Macbook Pro 2.2 not meet the specs for this feature?
    Or is it a problem with Leopard? Is anyone with Tiger able using Digital Cinema Desktop Preview with succes?
    Regards,
    Joerg

    So are you saying that the DVI output on my MacBook Pro IS true HD resolution and not a proxy like the canvas?
    What I am saying is that the video feed coming out of the DVI port is YUV. Computer monitors take that YUV information and convert it to RGB for displaying purposes. So if you connect an Apple monitor to the DVI port, and then use that for Digital Cinema Preview, you are seeing a converted proxie image. The MXO takes the actual YUV footage and outputs that to the Apple display as YUV, and therefore presents full quality broadcast colors. And it does it pixel for pixel...the 23" display is 1920x1200, so there are thin black lines on the top and bottom.
    AND the MXO software has a proc amp for adjusting color bars, and a BLUE ONLY option for proper monitor calibration. THis really is an amazing little box.
    I'm using a Dell ultrasharp 20" that looks very good that way; I just didn't think it was HD.
    It is, but it is a converted RGB image...and since it is 20", it isn't pixel for pixel (well, it would be for 720p, not 1080), and if it isn't pixel for pixel, then it is a converted image. Not suitable for color correction.
    then using a DVI to HDMI cable I should be seeing HD from my Sony bravia also?
    Yup...sure can. It will look pretty good too. But it being a consumer set, and again having a YUV>RGB converted image, it won't look as good as it could. The MXO would feed it a proper YUV signal, as would an Decklink HDP (but you need a decklink card with SDI out for that).

  • Contrast / Gamma Different in Canvas and Desktop Preview

    *The Confusion:*
    The contrast of my video differs between the Canvas Window and Desktop Preview.
    I assume the two are using different gamma settings. But I can't figure out what's going on, to know what those settings are and how to assess the final display picture.
    *Screen Grabs:*
    Here's a screen grab of the canvas, with the image at 100%. The screen grab does not show the full frame.
    - - - http://epokhecutmedia.com/images/gamma-ts-canvas.png
    Here's a full screen grab of image in Desktop Preview.
    - - - http://epokhecutmedia.com/images/gamma-ts-preview.png
    *What I've done:*
    I've gone through every gamma setting I know of and can't match the Canvas and Desktop Preview or make sense of the difference.
    Also, If I toggle between Display calibrations of 1.8 and 2.2 using the Display preferences in System Preferences, values in both the Canvas and Desktop Preview shift and still do not match.
    *Another seemingly related thing:*
    My Canvas window display jumps between different contrasts (possibly gamma values) automatically while I'm working.
    For example,
    - - - I'll have video frozen. I'll play it and the image with brighten across the mids with playback. However, after freezing it again it keeps the brighter value.
    - - - When I'm using filter, such as the 3-Way Color Corrector, when I click to drag a slider, the image with darken across the mids. Sometimes, as I drag, the canvas will erratically jump back and forth between the two values.
    *Why this is a problem:*
    I can't do basic exposure correction, because I don't know which is the accurate value to work with.
    edit by: FordPrefectRevisited, Screen Grabs added

    If I may re-open this thread, let me ask the question FordPrefect only alluded to:
    Given that I should be using a pro-level HD broadcast monitor to view everything, given that every piece of footage is different in the particulars, and given that the Canvas Window image is almost always different than any other playback system (Finder, QT, VLC Players, etc.), are there general exposure/gamma changes y'all make to account for the visual difference between the Canvas Window and other playback systems? If you're anything like me, you don't start from SCRATCH on every single edit... You have a few go-to filters with a few go-to settings, and then make minor adjustments according to the needs of the footage.
    For instance, in order to get the exported image close in exposure to the ideal Canvas Window image, I usually go: Effects - Video Filters - Quicktime - Brightness and Contrast - and then adjust the Brightness to 0.85 and it seems to get close.
    You guys have anything like that? Thanks for any help!

  • First attempt at a package - rstudio-desktop-preview

    Hi all - I've been interested in providing a package for the preview release of RStudio for quite some time now and I figured that I might as well just give it a shot - what's the worst that could happen.  I read through some of the threads but I guess I just want some feedback on if everything looks alright and if it would be reasonable to submit this to the AUR.  It builds for me and works great on my system.  However I feel like I cheated a little because I just modified the PKGBUILD of rstudio-desktop-bin so that it would work with the preview release; this seems sensible to me but I'm not sure if I need to give the maintainer of that package any credit somewhere.
    PKGBUILD:
    # Contributor: dasonk < dasonk at gmail dot com >
    pkgname=rstudio-desktop-preview
    pkgver=0.98.788
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="A new integrated development environment (IDE) for R (binary version from RStudio official website)"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    license=('GPL')
    url="http://www.rstudio.org/ide/download/preview"
    depends=('r>=2.11.1' 'qtwebkit')
    conflicts=('rstudio-desktop' 'rstudio-desktop-git' 'rstudio-desktop-bin')
    provides=("rstudio-desktop=${pkgver}")
    options=(!strip)
    _x86md5=be7da6269c6499770957f478f4eeaf2f
    _x64md5=db2fc2ce37dc4d16e12bc95c85eaa731
    case "$CARCH" in
    'i686')
    _arch=i386
    md5sums=($_x86md5)
    'x86_64')
    _arch=amd64
    md5sums=($_x64md5)
    esac
    source=("https://s3.amazonaws.com/rstudio-dailybuilds/rstudio-${pkgver}-${_arch}.deb")
    install="$pkgname".install
    package() {
    msg "Converting debian package..."
    cd "$srcdir"
    tar zxpf data.tar.gz -C "$pkgdir"
    install -dm755 "$pkgdir/usr/bin"
    cd "$pkgdir/usr/lib/rstudio/bin"
    rm lib*.so.*
    cd "$pkgdir/usr/bin"
    ln -s -f ../lib/rstudio/bin/rstudio rstudio-bin
    rstudio-desktop-preview.install:
    post_install() {
    [ -e $(which xdg-icon-resource) ] && xdg-icon-resource forceupdate --theme hicolor
    update-mime-database /usr/share/mime &>/dev/null
    post_upgrade() {
    post_install
    post_remove() {
    post_install
    Now I've read that just converting debian packages isn't best practice but it seems reasonable here.  I also read that you really should only provide PKGBUILD for architectures that you've personally tested on - I only tested on amd64 so should I get rid of the i386 (even though I'm pretty sure it'll work just fine)?
    Thanks for any feedback.

    Trilby wrote:There are already two (redundant) -git packages in the AUR for rstudio - what's different about this one?
    Good question!
    rstudio-desktop is built from the sources (not the binaries) but it out of date and I'm not interested in the official release
    rstudio-desktop-bin is what I based my PKGBUILD off of.  This is using the debian binaries from the official releases to install.  These only get updated every so often (not quite often enough for my liking with how quick Rstudio has been adding new features).
    rstudio-desktop-git is the git version of rstudio.  I can't get this to build at the moment and is a little too unstable for my liking.
    Rstudio provides 'preview' releases which offer a decent compromise between stability and getting the newest features.  This is what I want to offer.  Honestly if you think that this would just clutter the AUR with something that is unnecessary then I don't need to upload it to the AUR but figured that if I was interested in it then somebody else might be as well.

    In these cases it's common practice to add them as contributor.
    Note that you should put yourself as maintainer.
    i386 : you could comment those lines, and add that they may work but haven't been tested.
    you should add -bin to the name of the package.
    Thanks for the feedback! I changed the name to rstudio-desktop-preview-bin.  I added Meow as a contributor and changed myself to be the maintainer.  And actually since yesterday they updated the preview release so I upped the version and updated the md5sums. Here is the updated PKGBUILD

    Is that how you envisioned me commenting out the i686 stuff?  Is there anything glaringly wrong with this? Thanks for the feedback and do you think it would be worth it to upload to AUR or should I just keep this to myself...

  • Where is 'Digital Cinema Desktop Preview' in AE CS5.5?

    Hello, I am trying to connect a projector to AE CS5.5 via VGA and the 'Digital Cinema Desktop Preview' option in 'Video Preview' doesn't seem to be there, which is what I have used in AE CS3. I am using a brand new Macbook Pro 15' with a display adapter plugged into the thunderbolt.
    Please help as I have run out of things to try.

    Isn't that dependent on a specific Quicktime component and a specific monitor setting? I've never used it, but it may simply be one of those legacy things that are simply no longer compatible... Maybe Rick has the correct answer. After all, the only Mac in my life currently is my 6 year old MBP...

  • Digital Cinema Desktop Preview, keyboard layout and other bugs - Leopard

    I just reinstalled my Mac Pro because I hoped it would fix some bugs... but no luck. Digital cinema desktop preview (dcdp) was working just fine until I installed the Aja Kona Lhe software, afterwards only dcdp for the main display was working, both dcdp and dcdp "full screen" have disappeared. The other things I was hoping 10.5.2 would fix are the problem FCP cannot remember the keyboard layout I use (azerty-belgium) - every time I start the program I have to choose the layout again - and the fact I cannot export using compressor straight from FCP using qmaster: Final cut pro generated an error! (this has never worked)
    If you are having the same problems as I do, maybe we should compare hardware to see what we have in common that could be causing this problem. As I have found during my searches, some computers have similar problems, others don't, sometimes it also matters if you've upgraded from Tiger of did a clean install, where upgrading it seems (yes really!!) gives the least problems...
    I really hope there will be a bugfix soon, because I'm sure I'm not the only one having these problems... or maybe I should just install Tiger and upgrade...???

    I vote for going back to Tiger. That is known to be stable. Leopard and FCP is unpredictable at the moment.

  • Desktop preview is de-interlacing or down-resing and fc hates m2v files

    So, I'm new to FC. I've been using Avid and compositing packages for my video over the last few years.
    I have a second monitor hooked up to my DVI port on my mac book pro. I have its resolution set to a reasonable 1280x800.
    I want to set it to be a full screen preview monitor, so I have the "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Full Screen" option selected. I have it set to "Mirror" and I have it set to "All Frames" as per the various posts on this forum suggest.
    I have the following problems:
    If my source file is a m2v (mpeg2) the Viewer and the external monitor lock together. Both scrubbing and playing display each frame identically and in sync with one another (exactly what I want). The only problem, is that FC seems to hate m2v files. Opening a project with over 100 m2v files prompts a 15 minute delay while FC does something with the m2v files. I've tried futzing with the tumbnail cache as other posts on the forum suggest, with no success. Importing m2v files individually prompt a delay of 10 - 20 seconds each (that mov files of the same content do not). That delay appears to be duplicated en-mass when opening a project with m2v sources. So I've given in to transcoding off of m2v and moved on.
    If my source file is a mp4 file or mov file (converted from the m2v, using either mpeg stream clip or compressor), the image on the external display appears to be downres'd, or possibly de-interlaced (and therefore, line doubled, a kind of downres). The viewer however, displays the image at full res. If I make sure to adjust the clip in FC to a field dominance of "none" then cutting the clip into a progressive timeline results in a perfectly fine image. It considers it progressive when it renders to the timeline's codec (btw, leaving the field dominance as something that implies interlacing results in a deinterlace at render, and therefore a loss of resolution). I am however, left with the problem that I even though FC clearly understands that the footage is progressive due to its proper render, the preview on the external monitor will dinterlace it no matter what I do. If I change it to "raw" rather than "full screen" it does infact display it without deinterlacing or downres'ing. However, its small and centered as the source footage in this case is SD in size.
    Beyond the deinerlace/downres issue, when using a mov or mp4 source, the viewer and external monitor do no lock even though I have "mirror" selected and both the viewer and the canvas are set to "Fit to Window" as many posts in this forum have suggested. What I get, is a split of behavior. Playing a source clip plays it on the external monitor but the viewer stays frozen. Scrubbing moves the viewer but the external monitor plays catchup (only updating once a second or so).
    I have tried a bazillion codecs, from h264 to pixlet to photojpeg. They all behave the same with regard to deinterlacing and syncing.
    So, can anyone comment on the behaviors I'm seeing here? They're driving me nuts. All I want is to have a nice fullscreen output on my external display thats the same as on my viewer. Clearly its possible, as the m2v files do it. But as stated, m2vs can't be used for other reasons.
    HELP!?!?!
    -brad

    I can tell the difference between SD footage that has been blown up vs SD footage that has been downres'd and then blown up. This is a case of the latter. The change from full screen to raw very clearly changes the decoded image prior to a scale to the monitor (or in the case of a raw, no scale for the monitor). Its different decoding behavior.
    Again, the image quality and behavior on the m2v files is different and correct. Same source material. Same resolution. Different wrapper format and codec. But for reasons stated prior, not usable due to a FC slowdown with that wrapper format (unless someone knows of a way to overcome that).
    Yes I have opened the manuals. I would not be posting here if the manuals had answered my question. And yes, I've searched the forums for similar issues, and have made note of the solutions and suggestions I've tried. I'm trying to be a good forum citizen here but the tone and caliber or responses are troubling and patronizing.
    Your suggestion is noted but I will turn to other solutions before buying the thousands (if not tens of thousands) of dollars worth of storage required to keep all this footage as DV. That being said, I have transcoded a test clip to DV to check it out and it behaved no differently than the codecs listed prior. I did however, discover some new behavior that may be useful in figuring this out.
    When I make sure to set the footage to "none" for field dominance, and put it in the timeline, as stated, it renders correctly, without a downres. However, when I double click the clip in the timeline, bringing it back into the source viewer window, it starts acting correctly. It is full res, blown up to full screen in the external monitor. It operates in lock step between the viewer and the external monitor. This problem only shows itself when viewing a source clip from a bin that has not been in the timeline yet. I can even drag the clip back into the bin, making a subclip, and the subclip acts correctly. Though, the new sourceclip does have an emtpy filter stack and a inactive motion tab on it now, perhaps indicating why its acting differently.
    I have a functioning xml importer script so I'll take a look and see if there is an element I can add to a clip in a bin that will result in the same "fix" without having to subclip. However, if anyone has any other ideas as to why the viewer and desktop preview is acting so very different playing a directly imported file versus a subclipped but otherwise unaffected file, specifically with regard to resolution or interlacing, I'd be interested to hear them.

  • Horizontal refresh lines appearing on Desktop Preview since 10.6 upgrade

    I just recently upgraded my system to Snow Leopard, and unfortunately I am now getting TERRIBLE horizontal refresh lines during full screen playback in FCP 7 on my 2nd monitor. It is so bad it is unusable.
    When I play back video on with Desktop Preview full screen on my main monitor, the video looks great. I've even plugged the monitors into opposite ports to test and it's definitely not my monitors. The same thing happens on my opposite monitor if it is plugged into the second jack.
    I tried playing back the same footage in Quicktime Pro on both monitors. NO ARTIFACTS.
    I've also reset PRAM, trashed prefs, etc.
    It seems that 10.6 has broken an nVidea video driver and caused a bug in FCP 7 and is causing a terrible refresh line that pokes out in transitions and during bright scenes and contrasty imagery. PLEASE FIX THIS APPLE. I would hate to have to reinstall 10.5 just to use FCP.

    I have tried a few things listed here to correct this problem, I think I have figured it out. The steps I took to get rid of the lines that randomly appeared across the screen (desk top) and with in open windows are as follows:
    First I ran apple jack on auto mode. You have to start up in single user mode. I did this three times as recommend in another forum that I can't remember the site now.
    Second, I freed up some memory. I used appDelete.app and rid my computer of all applications I haven't used or no longer needed.
    After the above steps, I reset the PRAM by restarting while holding the option, command, P & R key down, until the start up chime sounded three times.
    I did this over a week ago and not only is my system running faster, I haven't had one line appear in any open windows or across the display.
    Side note, I recall that the time I started noticing these lines, was shortly after downloading internet explorer, I needed that browser for a job related site that didn't or wouldn't work with Safari or Firefox. After I used that browser for my employer, I never used it again. Shortly after that install, is when I started noticing the lines. I removed that application using appDelete.app and again no lines ever since.
    I hope this helps others.

  • No Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main (FCP6)

    Been a while since I needed the forum, hope someone out there can help.  Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
    To get straight to the point, I am trying to get Video Playback on my Cinema Display.  This Mac Pro, just like my MacBook Pro, has never had a camera or deck connected to it.  The only thing ever connected to either of them, via FireWire, are my external HDs containing the QuickTime files, so I don't understand why it is looking for a device.
    All footage is captured through older desktop Macs onto external HDs.  The desktops used for capturing are the last generation before Apple went Intel.
    Once captured, we connect the HDs to the Intel Mac Pros for editing.  Our format is DV-NTSC (thankfully will be tapeless HD in two weeks)
    I am not sure why, but when I go to the Video Playback option on my Mac Pro it says [Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480).  When I access the same option on my MacBook Pro, the Video Playback shows Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main.
    I can't figure this out, the desktop and the laptop are configured exactly the same.  Why are they displaying different Playback Video Output options?
    Both computers are set to Easy Setup option = Format: (all formats) - Rates: (all rates) - Use: Custom
    Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48khz
    Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48khz
    Device Control Preset: FireWire NTSC
    *Playback Video Output: my laptop lists Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main and my desktop shows Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480) ?????
    Playback Audio Output: Default
    Edit to Tape/PTV Output Video: Same as Playback
    Edit to Tape/PTV Output Audio: Same as Playback
    Again, makes no sense to me since both computers are setup and used exactly the same way.
    On the Mac Pro, I have:
    - Trashed prefs
    - Tried to open new projects with different Settings and Presets
    - Refreshed A/V Devices
    - Exteranl Video = All Frames and Single Frames
    - Created new Easy Setups
    - Changed the Display res
    - Went into Audio/Video settings = Video Playback and get the [Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480) option or "None"
    - Went into Audio/Video settings = A/V Devices = Playback Output =Video = "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480)" or "None".  There is an option button highlighted but nothing happens when ai go to activare it.
    - Just changed [Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480) to "None" and now the option it shows is "None"
    The only way for me to view my FCP project on my Cinema Display is to connect it to my laptop.
    I have read where some people had to reinstall their FCP, which I will do if it is completely necessary, but not right now.
    Any input greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for all of your time.
    No second monitor connected.  Yes, have tried other formats.
    I don't think I am going to do a complete clean install of the entire OS and all my apps, just FCP6.  I have copies of FCP X and CS6 installed on another Mac Pro that have been waiting to be played with.  I just need to get this project finished.  It is a college graduation w/ a RT of 1:54:00 (the horror). While I am play with FCPX and CS6, I'll do a reinstall of FCP6 just because I am curious.
    I plan on purchasing five LCDs next week for previewing, so this my not even be that much of a big deal.
    As for cloning, for whatever reason, it gives me anxiety.  In all my years, 12+ years of owning Macs, I have yet to clone my system.  Again for whatever reason, I don't really trust myself that I would do it the correct way.  I have a copy of CarbonCopy but never used it .
    I just shoot and edit..

  • Digital Cinema Desktop Preview?

    Hi there
    Just wondering if it's possible to run Color with 2 screens using one screen as the UI+Scopes and the second screen as full screen Digi Cinema Desktop Preview?
    (I see the standard Video out options as FCP has, but they are all ghosted and can't be selected...)
    Would an extra PCIex Graphics card allow it, or would I need to get an AJA Kona or similar ?
    Thnx!

    The configuration you are suggesting is "the way it used to be" for non-Kona/Blackmagic Final Touch users. The scopes were imbedded in the UI primary screen where the "Curves" now are, for example in the Primary Room. The second screen (DVI #2 output on your GPU) was full-screen Preview/Program out. Why it was switched around...??? I understand that the 'curves' adjustment strategy helps those who don't have control panels, in that a 'knack' for them can evolve, usually for tablet/stylus drag artists. Never use them, myself.
    Its lovely having three screens, the third being an approved grade-level, calibrated monitor, hanging off the end of a real SDI-Video card, with a full-raster/full time waveform/vector/gamut alarm scope. Not much guesswork after that. Takes some investment, though. If you do have all the toys, outboard scopes, panels and multi-screens, the amount of wasted space in the UI becomes obvious.
    As a side-note, I would only use the curves if trying to correct, or emulate, badly damaged film ( eg. severe dye-layer fading). Otherwise you are messing with gamma-point, more than correction. I'm open to debate on that one, though. Seems like most video, especially and particularly the pro-sumer highly compressed formats, don't have the jam to withstand much serious value reassignment.
    COLOR will not boot with more than one PCIe card installed/in use. I have heard of users working around that by unplugging the monitor from the second card. Kinda defeats the purpose, though...

  • "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Principal"

    Hello, I managed to use the function "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Principal" before, to preview some sequences but i can't now. I tried everything (restart, making chose nothing is selected by mistake..) but it doesn't want to work, what can I do ?
    Thanks for reading.

    I managed to use the function "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Principal"
    Mine has Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Main. Is that what you mean?
    Try turning off your screen saver options in System Preferences.
    What happens if you hit Apple-F12?
    You might try trashing the FCE preferences, repair permissions and re-boot.

  • 3 Displays & Cinema Desktop Preview

    Hi all...
    Have been all over the fora and found many similar problems but none that exactly duplicate my problem.
    I have an Apple 23" Display and a Small PAL monitor running off my Radeon 2600 via Apples DVI to Video converter connector. I use the TV to do some simple colour and brightness monitoring but nothing too precise.
    Add to this a 3rd display (an Acer 17" LCD) running off another video card - the geforce 7300 that came as standard in my machine.
    I want to be able to use the cinema desktop preview on the PAL Monitor but FCP insists on using the Acer whenever it is connected despite it being on a different video card and despite FCP not liking CDP when used on 2 different cards.
    The Acer only displays white when it is connected.
    I really want the acer to show all my FCP Effects and browser/bins etc/... the Apple Display to show sequence, canvas etc and the monitor to show the Cinema Preview. Is there anyway to get this to happen apart from disconnecting the Acer when using FCP and sucking it up regarding the palettes, bins etc?
    Can you specify in FCP (or elsewhere - system setting etc) which display to use for Cinema Desktop Preview?
    Cheers

    FCP doesn't support multiple Graphics cards...only one.
