Desktop resolution

Hi.If I turn my TV off, but leave my PC on, the screen res changes and moves all the icons on the desktop around. Is there anyway to stop windows 7 from using the annoying auto detect and lock my screen resolution in place.
I have my PC connected to my 47" LED TV via HDMI. This runs through an HDMI transmitter to send the image to a 42" LCD TV in the bedroom. When my LED TV is on, the display on the LCD upstairs is perfect full scan. If I turn off the LED the scan
shrinks, leaving about an inch or so border.
Last but not least. My audio runs via the optical out on my Soundblaster card into my 5.1 AV receiver, and works perfectly. My TV upstairs is not connected to this, so requires the audio to pass through the HDMI on my Radeon graphics card. Is there any way
(even using a third party tweak) to allow the audio to run through both outputs at the same time?
Looking forward to some useful answers.
Thanks.

Hi,
For this issue, this behavior is by design. We cannot disable automatic detection function.
You can modify the hardware(HDMI) to disable automatic detection.
I also suggest you refer to the method as suggested in the article below:

Hope it helps.

  • Desktop resolution - software download failure

I tried to download the Blackberry desktop software (I have a new Bold) onto my new laptop. It seemed really awkward so I uninstalled it. Now, every time I turn the computer on (new HP laptop) the desktop resolution reverts to minimal (ugly) and when I change it to the high resolution, it reverts again on startup. Can anyone help me to fix the default back to maximum resolution, please?....

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having. Note further that, from your post, I cannot tell from where you obtained the download...the links in that thread are official.
    Good luck!

  • What would cause my iMac's desktop resolution to briefly readjust whenever I switch from my user to another?

I recently started to notice that whenever I switch from one user account to another on my recently purchased iMac, the resolution of my desktop wallpaper very briefly readjusts.  Both users have the same default resolution and are using wallpaper that came standard with Mavericks.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this?
    Thanks!

    Hello there, Conor68.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great recommendations for troubleshooting display issues on your Mac:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
Once you're reviewed the recommendations in regards to updates, this portion of the section on "No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering" is useful:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Extended Desktop resolution?

Extended desktop is supported for the first time on an iMac. This brings the iMac into a whole new realm. I wonder what the max resolution is for the external display?

Sorry about this question, but what size LCD TV can you put on a Intel iMac? The LCD TV I am planing to get with the iMac has 1366 x 768 resolution at 23" and 26". Can you buy a 26" LCD TV to use with the iMac? I don't understand this resolution thing? I think LCD TV is different from LCD computer display?
Sorry about my first post on this forum. I did not see this one.
Thanks for any of your help!

  • Desktop Resolution with SLI (GTX 560 Ti)

Yesterday I installed my second MSI GTX 560 Ti and enabled SLI. Now, I have three monitors that are 1080p (native to 1920x1080) in which I wanted to enable surround. It lets me enable the feature but it seems to default to 5040x1050 instead of 5760x1080. I tried to manually add a new resolution under 'Customize' but it fails. Any suggestions?

  • How do I make my webpage 100% width on any desktop resolution?

    Hi,
I designed a website mockup on Photoshop with the dimensions of W: 1280 x H: 2464 but when placing the JPG file on the empty homepage
to see how it would look and fit, it wasn't taking up the whole screen and instead was centre and there was white background left and right.
I'm viewing this on my desktop thats 1920x1080.
I'm new to Muse so I'm not sure what is the best dimension settings to choose for a website that would work great on almost any desktop.
An exmple of the style of website I want to create is the Nestea website
For the header and footer of my website I have a huge image instead of a solid colour.
I know the images have to be really large so they don't get stretched out and loose quality but
if someone could tell me the dimensions and settings to put when creating a new website so that
I could re-mockup the website with the same dimensions and that if I placed the JPG file to see how it
would look, that it would fit edge to edge and not loose any quality.
    Thanks

  • Problem with desktop resolution in the masthead area

    Hi,
One of my clients is having a big monitor and when he tries to access portal some of the screen elements in masthead are appearing twice but in smaller monitors it is coming correctly.
So how do i rectify this problem
    Thanks
    Bala Duvvuri

    Hi Bala,
Make sure all attributes concerning your images in the masterheader, starting with "Repitition..." in the theme editor under System Administration -> Portal Display, are set to no-repeat.
    This will solve your problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Desktop background resolution dropping in Mountain Lion

    15" Non-retina Mid 2012, 2.3Ghz i7, 10.8.1, 4GB RAM.
I have a folder in Dropbox that I put my desktops/background pictures into to share across all my machines. On my Mid 2009 15" 3.06 C2D running Snow Leopard, those same pictures (all of them at resolutions well above 1440x900) are crisp and clear as they cycle through every minute. On my brand new machine, however, about 1 in 5 of those same pictures will be pixelated and appear to be a thumbnail of the image blown up to desktop resolution.
    Example:

'm having this problem too. Definitely a bug not a feature lol.
I noticed that in the Desktop & Screen Saver system preference window if you choose "center" on a big image the preview window shows the correct thing happening ie the image is centred to its native resolution but the actual desktop image is fit to the screen. • Explorer.exe hangs on resolution changes

I seem to have to have a very persistant, very reproducable and very annoying problem with explorer.exe just completely "hanging" frequently. This started happening near the end of November, about a month after I used Windows 7 (professional x64) with no problems. To make a long story short, it happens nearly any time my display changes (resolution or anything else).
    Here's a more detailed description:
Before late November, everything worked perfectly. I don't recall what could have caused the change. I uninstalled anything I installed during or after November. I do not have anything visible on my desktop. However, any time the resolution changes, explorer.exe hangs using 50% of my cpu, or 100% of one core. Clicking on the taskbar or desktop lets me know that "Explorer.exe has stopped responding", allowing me to restart it, which I occasionally also choose to do via Process Explorer. At first, I only noticed during or after playing games, but now I have tested this thoroughly and determined that it is in fact most likely a display problem, concluded from the following pretty exhaustive list:
Unplugging my external monitor causes explorer.exe to hang.
Plugging in my external monitor also does.
Changing resolutions on either monitor, to any resolution, causes explorer.exe to hang.
Changing resolutions on the internal monitor while the external monitor is unplugged also causes a hang.
Uninstalling the ATI display drivers causes a hang.
Changing resolutions with the default Windows display drivers between 800x600 and 1024x768 (the only two options) causes a hang. (Uninstalled and followed with Driver Sweeper so no trace of the ATI display drivers are available and the display is running purely on Windows defaults.)
Installing updated ATI drivers causes a hang directly after the resolution is changed automatically.
Unchecking all options in the "Perfermance Options" causes explorer.exe to hang.
Unchecking all options but leaving visual styles on does not result in a hang (if it was on to start with).
Turning off visual styles causes the display to blink briefly before displaying the "Please wait" box and, when it is finished and the desktop is displayed again, explorer.exe has been hanging approximately since the display blink.
Running games that cause the resolution to change usually cause explorer.exe to hang, but not always. This is particularly odd. Opening the simple game Torchlight in full screen at 1280x800, does not pose a problem; however, Alt-Tabbing out of it causes the hang as well as closing it, which both revert the resolution to the desktop resolution (1920x1200). Running the game in a window is no problem. Running the game in full screen at 1920x1200 is also no problem, regardless of starting, using Alt-Tab or closing, even though the display blinks for a moment. Team Fortress 2 consistently causes explorer to hang when launching (hanging TF2 as well, until explorer has been killed). All goes well while TF2 is running, even with explorer restarted. When TF2 is closed, explorer hangs again. Thus, it always causes explorer to hang, whether opening or closing. In windowed mode, it causes no problems. I can give examples of a number of more games if it helps pinpoint the problem.
The event viewer shows no errors or warnings after a hang (except for the standard ones that are generated if the "Explorer.exe has stopped responding" dialog shows up by clicking on the taskbar or desktop. If it is killed manually before showing the dialog, nothing shows up.) It does log some information specific to ATI functions in the ACEEventLogSource which seem to be specific to an explorer freeze. No information was generated when Torchlight changed resolutions without a resulting hang but the following was generated upon closing, with an explorer hang:

Disabling all non-Microsoft Shell extensions (with ShellExView x64) didn't help.
As of writing, I have the feeling it didn't happen in safe-mode but I would need to retest this to make sure.
A clean boot yields no improvement. Changing the resolution following a clean boot still results in a hang.
Using Process Explorer, I have also checked all non-Microsoft DLL's running in conjunction with Exlporer.exe and these were only db's (some related to BitTorrent), a Comodo antivirus DLL and a bunch of Broadcom Widcomm Bluetooth files. Thus, I uninstalled all of those including the bluetooth software and drivers, unfortunately, to no avail. Changing resolutions still crashes Explorer!
    My system is as follows:
    ASUS M51Va Notebook
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    ATI Radeon HD 3650
    Catalyst Version 09.12
    DirectX Version 11
    Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0716
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.9232
Internal monitor Generic PnP Monitor at 1200x800 32bit 61Hz
External monitor Samsung SyncMaster 2433BW/2433GW, SyncMaster Magic at 1920x1200 32bit 59Hz connected by an HDMI to DVI-D cable
    Anti-virus is Comodo
If any more information is needed I'll gladly provide it! This is truly a very aggrivating problem. Particularly when gaming or hooking up displays for presentations etc. I really can't think of any thing else that could be meddling with Explorer, causing it to crash. I would love to find the source of the problem, but I'm prepared to finally bite the bullet and reinstall Windows to get rid of this extremely annoying problem. Help would really be appreciated.
If I figure anything out, I'll post the results.

  • High PPI Support Multiple Monitors: How it comes that Remote Desktop implements the hight PPI support very well and win 8.1 doesnt?

    http://skovalev.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/RemoteDesktop-HighPPI-Perfect.png
Hello all: i am using an High PPI Monitors from Dell XPS15 (3600x1800) and a Normal FullHD above it. The FullHD monitor is an external device and is set up as the primary device. Scaling is set to per Monitor DPI.
Now the Question: how it comes, that my RemoteDesktop on the secondary (internal) screen has almost perfect implementation for this????
BUT i am am talking only about the RemoteDekstopManager, normal one does not works with high ppi in this way... Also ModernUI has no problems with scaling
    http://skovalev.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Firfox-and-Resolution-RemoteDesktop.png
NOTE that the resolution on the remote desktop is set to 1600x900 and there are NO scaling problems even on the 3200x1800 monitor!
On both picutures you find the dell monitor on the bottom and the scaled original windows explorer/firefox on the bottom right. See how blurry it is? I really breaks my eyes :(
I hope Microsoft can finally fix the high PPI Monitors issue, since the solutions seems to be already implemented

No, i mean the Scaling Support.
If you use multiple monitor, in windows 8.1 you can scale per monitor. If you use this option with a High PPI monitor, like ultra HD or 4K, the image on the monitors with other PPI than the main monitors appears fuzzy and blury.
But there are also scaling problems even if you use only single monitor. This article blog describes it pretty good:
    http://www.hanselman.com/blog/LivingAHighDPIDesktopLifestyleCanBePainful.aspx
By the way there are lot article like this describing the scaling problems, not only by users but also by professinals and IT magazines...
BUT here it comes: watch @ my screenshots. If the remote desktops resolution is 1800x900 and the native resolution is 3600x1800, there are no scaling problems! HOW? So like you can see on my screenshots a native application on my monitor appears fuzzy while
the same application runnin of the remote desktop has clear type!
That means for me, that windows HAS the possibility to scale clearly, but somehow this feature is only supported by RDCM...

  • How to resize my monitor resolution in OS X 10.5.8

Hello I have a question I am new to mac and I was trying to resize my desktop resolution. I'm using a 720i TV utilizing the HDMI and using the convertor to make it DVI and for some reason when I use the 720 resolution its all off center and it won't let me resize it like it does in Windows but it works when i have it at 1280 x 960 problem is I don't want that resolution it doesn't look as good on my TV. I have tried everything and can't find any software that will allow me to do this. And I use the same monitor for my Windows machine and it works perfect PLEASE HELP

Yeah..... I know that I want to know how to resize a resolution the 1280 x 720 doesn't show up right it's making everything go off the sides so I can't see everything on my desktop in windows my nvidia control panel would allow me to resize my monitor to fit any resolution i want to know how to do that on a mac

  • Export quality for desktop viewing:

I am using PPCS3 to export a short movie (5 minutes) that I would like to ONLY show on my desktop. My desktop resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels.
When I export the movie using MPEG (NTSC High Quality - Lower Field), the quality of the full screen DVD using Windows Media Player (or WinDVD) is not very good. It is even worse when I deinterlace it which everyone recommends if I want to play it on my computer monitor.
When I export the movie using Quicktime (MPEG 4), the quality at original size is excellent but starts distorting if I make the quicktime player larger.
Is the reason my movie quality is not very good because my desktop resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels and my video footage is NTSC - 720 x 480??
Any good solutions to improve the viewing experience on a computer screen?
The photos and video in my movie are very good. Should I increase the movie to a larger height and width? Any tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Simon

I like the HD solution but I did a few tests by creating HD videos via Google Earth movie maker and my laptop seems to not be able to play the short clip very well. It stutters. Looks like my video card is not good enough. :(((((
Now I have to see if I can update my video card or not.
