[Desktop][Running] Running Spotify Application in the Background...

Think it would be very convenient if we could run the Spotify application in the background. I remember it used to be an option under "Edit>Preferences..." before a certain update removed it... O.o

Updated: 2015-06-21Hello!
With "running in the background" do you mean minimize to system tray?
If so, version 1.0.7 added that option again.
Please check under Menu => Edit => Preferences => Startup and Window Behaviour => Close button should...
Or did you mean something else?

  • How to run an application in the background when iMac starts up?

    Hi,
I installed TextExpander a couple of months back. It normally runs in the background and doesn't appear in my list of running applications when I cycle through them with Cmd+Tab. This is how I like it.
Of late though, TextExpander starts up when I switch on my machine, but it now appears as an application running in the foreground; if I Cmd+Tab through my running applications, TextExpander is listed among them.
I'd prefer if I did not see it when switching between applications.
I've tried restarting the machine, but to no avail. Also, there is nothing in the preferences to run in the background.
(Possibly unrelated: I don't recall doing anything in particular that might have caused this change in behaviour, but I have noticed recently that TextExpander has found an 'older version' and is asking me if I want to remove it. I don't remember updating it to a newer version, and I don't believe I have it set to auto-update.)
Can anyone explain how I can make it run in the background? I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Ken.

To run your app as a daemon (if you are really sure it can) check the app's preferences panel, there should be sometthing like "show in dock".
A little embarrassing, but +there is+ an option within TextExpander's preferences to "Hide TextExpander icon in Dock". Don't know how I missed it. I checked the preferences on two separate occasions! Feeling a little morto'ed.
In any case, to confirm what I've done:
-Within System Preferences > Accounts > Login items tab, I have selected the "hide" checkbox for TextExpander.
-Within TextExpander's preferences, I selected the "Hide TextExpander icon in Dock" checkbox.
TextExpander still runs, but doesn't appear in the Dock or in the list of running applications (that I can switch between with Cmd+Tab).
    Result!
    Tx for your help.

  • Running a Java application on the background

How can I run an applet on the background ? (UNIX and Windows)
    Thanks!!

Running "in the background" is not really relvent on Windows as CMD[1] does not have this functionallty (that I know of) and you normally execute appliucations in the GUI, unless you are talking about making it a service, running when the user logs off (nohup in UNIX, Windows Services in windows), if thats what you are after, NT JAVA +Service in google.
[1] If you use a diffrent shell, such as Cygwin you can get this functionallity under Windows.

  • Issue with How Do I Run an Executable in the Background ?

    Hi,
I am trying to run a LabVIEw executable in the background, but none of the methods described in the discussion forum and on ni.com seems to be working. I am using LV 2011 on a Win 7 64-bit machine in case this matters.
I tried the method described in "How Do I Run an Executable in the Background as a Start-Up Application?" (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/4A8B626B55B96C248625796000569FA9?opendocument&Submitted&&... but I still see a fragment of a window at the bottom near the start-button (Exhibit 1). Exhibit 2 shows that it only consists of the title bar. (I have customized the window appearance as described, and added the two items
    HideRootWindow=True
    UseTaskBar=FALSE
    to the *.ini file.)
I also tried disabling all the other items in the Customize Window Appearance menu with the same result.
Then I tried the method described in "Running a LabVIEW Executable as a Background Process" (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/EFEAE56A94A007D586256EF3006E258B) adding the FP.Open method to the VI and setting the state to hidden. I got the same result (Exhibit 1).
Is there anything I need to do in addition or different for my windows version? I appreciate your help. Thank you.

    No you did not
They need to go in the exe's ini so the exe sees them

  • Trying to open Terminal I get;You are not authorised to run this application. The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value.

    Hi There Y'all,
I have recently downloaded MacKeeper. It ran OK for a bit, but has recently stopped allowing Internet security updates and switching on of the internet protection options.
Asked for help at MacKeeper. Their initial advice did not work, so a very nice technician was going to remotely attempt to fix the issue.
He however needed/still needs access to Terminal, a to me unbeknown Utility feature of my MacBook pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
While attempting to open Terminal the following came up
You are not authorised to run this application.
The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value.
Did do a diskverify permission and repair and restart.
Did check my admin settings in advanced options and have the /bin/bash.
    Any advice anyone.
    Thanks.
    in site out

After finally localing private/etc/shells through Go>Go to folder and replacing the empty shells with the shells~orig I have permission again to open Terminal. Thanks. Another step.
    (Why though can't I access  /private/etc/...  through Finder's search?)
Should work but the file or folder needs to exists to access it.  If you typed in /private/etc/shells and the file wasn't there there's no place to access.  Certainly /private/etc was there so that would have worked.
So what will happen by inputting the lines
    ls -Fvl /bin/bash
    ls -Fvl /etc/shells
    more /etc/shells
    into Terminal?
Basically to find out what you already seemed to find out.  The first command was to display owner, group, and permissions of  /bin/bash and to tell me whether it still existed.
    Similarly for /etc/shells.
And the last command would have just displayed what was in /etc/shells.
By the way /private/etc and /etc are the same folder.

    Hi Matthew,
You can use program UPC_PLANFUNCTION_EXECUTE to execute planning function.
Also take a look at Function modules

  • Run a procedure at the background

    Hi All,
Is there a way to run a procedure at the background (in parallel)?
    Thanks,

I am trying to fetch records into a temp table based on a complex query (lot of joins and search query dynamically built based on users entry). Also display the records pagewise as soon as 100 records are fetched.
I want to run this at background with commits inbetween so that I can access the info and display each page with certain number of rows.

I would like to run a stock analysis program called Toolkit 6 on my Macbook Pro, but it only works on the Windows platform.  Is there software that allows me to run Windows applications on the Mac?

Yes it's MS Windows! You will need a license of MS Windows (preferable Windows 7) and from there you can decide on the strategy for running Windows on your iMac. You can use Boot Camp (you already have this) or you use virtualization software such as Parallels or Fusion. For your situation I'd recommend virtualization software. However for only one program I'd do some due diligence to see if there is a OS X version. You can start with the App store or simply use Google to search.

  • How do I run Java7 Applications from the desktop

I have a large application developed under the Eclipse RCP platform that I'd like to run on my Mac Pro.
Previously, this was a Java 6 program, that I just clicked on in the finder, and it would start.
This is a packaged app, not a applet or webpage.  The authors just recently updated the program to require Java 7 (of course - if it ain't broke - fix it).
I installed Java 7  on my computer, and if I type Java -version it returns with Java 1.7.0_40-b43 as a version.  However, if I display the application in the desktop, and try to start it, it says it only has Java 6 installed, and I need to update to Java 7.  The Finder knows that it's an app, but the version of software displayed by the application is 1.6.0_65.
Any way to make the Finder use the right version?
    Later-
    David

It seems that the JDK proposed by Oracle does not include the possibility to run bundled applications directly (dont know why). I've succeeded in a similar case by following the instructions posted here: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=411361#c20
    Hope this helps !

  • Minimizing and running applications in the background

I'm writing an app that I want to run in the background, executing a job every time period. My question is how do I minimize the JFrame so that is goes into the System tray(Y'know where you find the Volume control, PPP modem connection icon, etc...)
I know it can be done because LimeWire does it, but I don't see anything obvious in the docs how it was done. Help is much appreciated, and thanks in advance.

You can use the JTray API (Java System Tray API For
Windows) that can be found at http://www.JavaAPIs.com.
It supports several image types, animation, and
display of AWT and Swing Components as pop-ups. I always find it rather annoying when people scour past posts to promote a product that they have a vested interest in.
Especially when they don't point out that that they have such an interest.
Especially when they don't point out that the interest is monetary.
Especially when they do nothing but post ads - never actually answering a single question.
    Just me I suppose.

  • How can I run  other applications at the same time as downloading email

When I open my computer if I check mail on entourage first and there are 30+ messages I can not use other apps at the same time as the mail is downloading, is there a way to have email operating in the background. Curiously if I am using another application and a mail comes in , the first app runs with mail running in the background , Why is this not the case when Entourage is the first program running and it is downloading mail.

http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Entourage/ Alternatively, don't launch it at login, launch it after logging in.

  • Starting to think about running legacy applications in the cloud

Many organizations' mission-critical applications run on servers located on-premises, or maybe in a data center offsite. Some IT managers resist the notion of moving to cloud-based applications because they're not sure they'll be able to manage applications where they can't diagnose problems with either the hardware or the software. But according to a Telstra surveycited in The Register, cloud computing has a number of benefits for organizations, including improving security, improving efficiency, and reducing costs. The article talks about common obstacles to a move to the cloud and suggests some ways to address them.Cloud computing use, in the form of IaaS or PaaS, is more common among enterprises than SMBs.RightScale's State of the Cloud surveyshows 88% of enterprises are already using the public cloud in some form. Hello Aswin & Siva,
This sounds like an interesting application! There are a couple of points I'd like to address to answer your questions:
    1. Provided the radio modem is "transparent" to the COM ports, you should be able to treat this like any other serial/VISA application in LabVIEW. There are numerous examples of communicating serially with LabVIEW, most of which are included with LabVIEW itself (Help >> Find Examples...)
    2. The tricky part is what you mean by "foreground" and "background." If an application is in the background, is it running at all? If so, what is it doing? What (if any) resources are the two applications sharing (besides the serial port)? VI Server may be the best option you have for controlling which application is running. I would recommend one "framework" VI that is always running and communicating with the serial port. Use this framework VI then to control and pass parameters to and from the other two VI's.
    3. There is a tutorial on our website that discusses a communication architecture for TCP/IP communication. While this does not address your application directly, you could replace the TCP/IP VI's with VISA VI's quite readily as they both use strings to read and write data. You can find it here:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/CD63FD0F746B17A686256F090065F572
Using a command architecture such as this you could control your applications remotely.
I hope this helps some. With more information on "foreground" and "background" I may be able to better answer your question. Have a good one!

  • Why do I get a status of 'waiting' when I run a report in the background

    Happy new Year Experts!!
I am working with Ad-hoc query and I run reports in the background.  When I go to System > Own Spool Requests the status is always waiting.  When I go to SM37 the status is complete.  I can open the report from my own spools requests and it is completed.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Jeanette

Go to SM36-> Own jobs - double click the job - Select Edit-Steps - DOuble click the step and check print specifications.
Moreover, if you wanna make the job printed on finish, make sure that there is a default printer defined in SU3 - Defaults - Output device field.
