  • To create a desktop shortcut icon for the application for a jar file

    Hi
    I have created a jar file for my application. when i double click this jar file, the application opens.
    What i want is--
    Instead of user clicking on the jar file, my application also has to create a desktop shortcut icon.
    If the user clicks on the icon which is on the desktop the application should open.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance.

    >
    Please suggest me.>Launch the application using java webstart. A webstart launch offers things like a splash screen, automatic updates, and desktop integration in the form of desktop shortcuts and program menu items. If the launch file specifies icons, they are used for the shortcuts, otherwise a generic icon is used.
    For a comparison between a sandboxed webstart launch and a plain app., try the [Text Width Checker|http://pscode.org/twc/].
    While the TWC can run OK within the security sandbox, many applications need to be digitally signed and request extended permissions, to do what they need to do.
    STBC is an all-permissions webstart launch.
    Edit 1:
    And for one that definitely suggests desktop shortcuts (I usually avoid them, in favor of a menu item only), try the sandboxed [demo of the PrintService|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#prs], which prompts the user to choose.

  • Desktop shortcut icons after 8.1.1 update

    I installed the 8.1.1 update and now I have two itunes shortcut icons on desktop. However I can't delete either of them and neither will launch itunes. Also sometimes when I launch itunes from starter menu it creates a third desktop shortcut icon.

    First, remove the SIM, clean its contacts with a pencil eraser, and re-insert it.
    If that doesn't fix it restore your phone using iTunes on your computer.
    And if that doesn't fix it your phone has a hardware problem.

  • How to use a website's favicon as the desktop shortcut icon on FF/windows?

    I've seen related questions on this forum but none answer my question. I am a developer and the website I am working on is for kids and students. Previously, we gave instructions to parents and teachers that they could drag the favicon to the desktop to get a shortcut to the right page - and the shortcut icon was our favicon image (our logo). This made it easy for kids to find the right icon on their own.
    We now find that the dragged shortcut icon is the icon of the default browsers on that machine. I've seen suggestions for how I can change this on my own computer but I have not seen any way for me to fix this for my users - I am dealing with users that are busy and not technically-knowledgeable. I can't ask them to change their about:config settings or download the logo separately and right click to set the icon of the shortcut to the logo. These are not solutions for me.
    IE does this action automatically and Firefox used to do it automatically. Please help!

    Sorry, that doesn't solve my problem. Please read the question more closely - I want my USERS to be able to do this without changing their configurations. My users are public school elementary teachers and parents. I can't ask them to toggle any settings - I'm looking for a way that my users can do this on their own.
    Thanks

  • Syntax of the JNLP file (web start) for JFX to allow desktop shortcut/icon?

    I'm having a hard time getting this to work. I'm using NetBeans v7.1.2. First of all - the resulting .jnlp file comes with the applet, as well as the application specification. The classloader is different in both of the cases from what I've seen.
    <applet-desc width="800" height="600" main-class="com.javafx.main.NoJavaFXFallback" name="jwsapp" >
    <param name="requiredFXVersion" value="2.0+"/>
    </applet>
    <jfx:javafx-desc width="800" height="600" main-class="jwsapp.Main" name="jwsapp" />
    What I did was edit out the applet part - now there is no entry in the "Type" of application in the javaws cache, it's simply blank. And it's still launched as an applet (judging by the console trace). Now we have "<jfx:javafx-desc", instead of application-desc? What does that affect? Is it safe to just fallback to 'application-desc' (then the type is properly detected)? I haven't been able to find any info on this whatsoever.
    Shortcuts.. I have Java 2.1.1 installed and this:
              <shortcut online="false">
                   <desktop/>
              </shortcut>
    does absolutely nothing for me. The shortcut never appears (even though this addition to .jnlp was designated by NetBeans). Moreover, how would I go about attaching icons to this shortcut?
    Does anyone have a working .jnlp example, that is actually able to allocate a shortcut with a predefined icon on the desktop? Thank you.

    It works fine for me.
    I'm using latest FX samples and latest 7u6 on Mac OS X.
    Tested with slightly modified version of BrickBreaker.jnlp that includes
    <shortcut online="false">
    <desktop/>
    </shortcut>
    and the shortcut is always created to me.
    Could you please try the latest 7u6 build?
    If it's still reproducible, please file a new bug at http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/

  • Why did FF desktop shortcut icons change over to IE icons?

    I am running Windows XP. For weeks i have looked for a solution with no luck. I use Firefox and occasionally drag and drop shortcuts to web pages that i want to revisit at a later time. For some reason, the shortcuts no longer carry the Firefox symbol. They all changed to Internet Explorer symbol and also open with Internet Explorer now. Even when browsing with Firefox now, i will drag a shortcut and as soon as i drop it, it changes to IE. Do you have any idea why this happened all of a sudden? Thanks

    You can check for issues with the Windows icon cache and try to rebuild the icon cache.
    # Open the Task Manager (Shift+Ctrl+ESC)
    # In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.
    # Open the file picker via "File > New Task (Run)" and click the Browse button.
    # Type or Paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local (%LocalAppData%) in the File name field (AppData is a hidden folder).
    # Select the IconCache.db file and use "Delete" in the right-click context menu to delete the file.
    # After the IconCache.db file has been deleted, start a new explorer.exe process via "File > New Task" to get the desktop and Taskbar back.
    The IconCache.db file is a hidden file, so make sure that you can see hidden files.

    Thank you cor-el. I have tried what you have suggested, and also tried re-naming another file in the same directory GDFONTCACHE1.DAT which I beleive has a similar function, but none of these combinations will produce an Internet shortcut icon.

  • Desktop shortcut icons change to Adobe after new install ...

    Hi All -
    Thanks in advance for your understanding if this has already been covered but after searching, I can't find a solution to my problem which very well may be something very simple. Btw, I'm a Vista user.
    After installing Adobe Reader 9.xx or even an older version of 8.xx, many of the shortcut icons on my desktop change to the (white/red center) adobe icon with access to that program then unavailable as an error message comes up saying Adobe cannot access that program.
    Anyone have any idea what I've done wrong or how to fix? After an uninstall of Adobe, the correct shortcut icons return with access working fine.
    Thx in advance for any suggestions/fix -
    Will in So. Cal.

  • Group Policy Desktop shortcut icons blank (white) on windows 8

    I am using GP user preferences to create shortcuts on my users' desktops. On all my Vista/Win7 machines they are fine and the icons are what I set them to be. on all my Win8 machines the icon is just a blank white square. If I right-click and view the icon,
    the correct image appears. But when the user is looking at the desktop the image is blank.
    I have upgraded a couple machines, scratch built one, and purchased an OEM version on a new laptop. All are the same: blank shortcut icons.
    Surely I'm not the only person testing Win8 in a domain environment, right?

  • Website desktop shortcut icons appear as blank white

    My desktop shortcuts are plain white and do not show the correct icon which most websites provide. The shortcuts have been produced by dragging the (typical) Globe icon from the address bar whilst using Firefox.
    Icons produced the same way whilst using IE do show the icons correctly.
    I have tried the following:
    Ensure that FireFox is the default browser.
    Right click shortcut and try "Change Icon" but the only icons listed are generic MS ones.
    Delete iconcache.db
    FireFox / Options / Content / Advanced / Allow pages to choose their own fonts YES
    Reset FireFox to default, and then checked all of the above again.
    Changed screen resolution from default then back to default.
    Re-named GDIPFONTCACHEV1.DAT which was automatically replaced by iconcache.db by the system.
    OS is MS Windows 7 Professional.
    Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
    Inbetween each check I have closed FireFox, re-booted and re-opened FireFox.

  • Can't update add-ons, install toolbars or new add-ons, get desktop shortcut icons to work, delete desktop shortcut icons, or uninstall Firefox! Help!

    I have Firefox 3.6.3 running on a Toshiba Satellit laptop with Windows XP. I can't update add-ons, install google and yahoo toolbars, get any of the 3 desktop shortcuts to work or delete them, nor uninstall Firefox to try and start over. What a piece of crap! How can I wake up from this nightmare?

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
    See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]
    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • How to specify desktop shortcut icon for JWS-JNLP app?

    Hi,
    When JWS sets a shortcut on the desktop for the app that I wrote, it just uses the Java cup icon. How can I get it to use my icon instead?

    I already have a line reading <icon href="yellow_aw.png"/> in my information tag, and the icon is the Java cup. I thought that the <icon href="yellow_aw.png"/> tag only specifies the icon that is displayed in the JavaWebStart start-up screen.
    Any other ideas?

  • Desktop shortcut icons-windows 7 and itunes

    desktop icons appear for every song downloaded

    Hi everyone!
    Trying to do the migration from Windows Vista to 7 and the setup program tells me I have to unistall (among other software) iTunes 9 and deauthorize my computer before installation of Windows 7. Has anyone received the same message and if so what do I suppose to do with my library and how long will I have to wait for a compatible version? I tried looking at different sites but so far haven't found an official estatement from Apple....

  • NWBC v3.0 installed, but "nothing happens" upon executing desktop shortcut

    I have a problem with v3.0 of NWBC that I have recently installed.  Upon double clicking on the desktop shortcut icon, the initial NWBC 3.0 splash screen is displayed, but then nothing else happens.  I am not presented with any screen where I am able to select a backend system to connect to.   Task Manager shows the service "sapstartsrv.exe" still running (I'm assuming that this is linked to NWBC), but no other evidence can be seen that NWBC is actually running.
    I would like to add that NWBC v1.0 works perfectly well on the same PC, and connects successfully to backend SAP systems.
    Some additional information.
    - I have just installed SAPlogon 7.20 + restarted (as the previous version 7.10 patch level 14 did not meet the required level of 7.1 level 15)
    - I am running XP SP3.  Windows hotfix 919477 is not required, as it is already present as part of one of the XP SPs.
    - I have reverted from Google Chrome as my default browser back to IE (+ restarted), to see if this made any difference, but still no luck.
    Many thanks in advance to anyone who can shed any light on this issue, given the "scraps" of information provided above.
    Alistair Crawshaw

    Hi Ali,
    I am also facing the same issue. After installing NWBC 3.0 when I try to run it, it just display the SAP splash screen and then get closed automatically and I am not getting any screen to select the backend system to connect.
    I saw your reply:
    +Please ignore my question above. The problem was due to the fact that the backend ECC system that we were connecting to did not have the relevant EHP + Support Pack Level. After updating these, the connection was successful.+
    But how did you get the screen to add backend system to which you want to connect?

  • Java 7u13 win8 shortcut icons still appear to be broken

    As Woodiw1563768 pointed out in July of 2012, the Java Web Start (JAWS) desktop shortcut icon on Windows 8 appear to be broken[0]. When you provide a custom icon the shortcut appears as a blank paper instead of as your icon or the default web start icon. This is still happening in February of 2013.
    Windows 8 is "officially supported with the release of Java 7 Update 10" [1] and bug 2230144 claims this issue should be fixed as of Java 7 Update 12 (7u12) [2], but when I tested with the latest version from java.com, 1.7.0_13 (7u13) my icons are still broken for applications which work with the same version of Java on earlier versions of Windows. Can anyone else confirm this? It would be handy to have a public JNLP file that normally installs icons that we can all test against. The one in the bug report appears to be missing or only internal.
    As noted in bug 7182795 [3], the issue appears to be some Windows security conflict with the use of LocalLow as the cache directory where JAWS icons are stored.
    I am having trouble figuring out how to comment on bug 2230144 to indicate that it still appears to be broken.
    Is there any way to work around this bug? (Besides not using web start or not relying on the desktop shortcuts.)
    I have tested setting the icon path manually, but every time the JNLP file is updated, and sometimes on every launch, the shortcut is deleted and re-created, reverting back to the broken icon.
