Desktop Shortcuts Don't Open With Double Clinking On Icons

Anyone have an idea why when I double click on my desktop icons they don't launch all the time?
When this happens, if I reboot it usually works then.
I'm stumped.
Thanks

  • Events will not open with double click/double click not working.

Have just upgraded to iPhoto'11 and finding it a pain to use after previous iPhoto.  Events will not open with double click (even though highlighted in yellow) and photos will not open with double click or videos play.  How can we fix this please?

That sounds very like an issue with your mouse/trackpad and not iPhoto. Go to your SystemPreferences and chck the speed you've set for double clicking

  • InDesign files won't open with double click

InDesign files won't open with double click on my MacPro with Snow Leopard although they do open from external hard drives when I double click.

Thank you very much, you were correct, it appears the mouse clicks were set too fast. Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to answer my question.

  • Nothing will open with double click

Help! Our iMac seems to work OK, except that nothing will open with a double-click in Finder. It is not the mouse, which works fine. I rebuilt the directory with DiskWarrior, but that did not help. What is weird is that things do open with double-click soon after you reboot it. But after a day or so, it stops working. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos!
It maybe your Mouse or your Mouse Preferences are getting lost somewhere. What type of Mouse do your have? When you lose the ability to double click, can you still right click and see the menu dialog? If so, try to open your file this way, if nothing happens when you right click try the next step below...
You should check: System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse... from here make sure you right (secondary) button is activated and double click speed is not too fast or slow.
Let us know, good luck, Rick

  • Folders on desktop won't open with double click

I have just purchased a Mac Pro running 10.9.5. I downloaded from disc (external drive) several folders to my desktop, but I cannot open them with a double click (or single click). I am using an LG IPS display. Does anyone know whats going on?

Thanks. This is something I didn't know about. However, I also was able to open folders using open from the file menu in finder. Either of these is helpful sometimes, but unfortunately, I have found that I have no double click function at all -  which I need for tool commands in a number of apps.
Apple support has advised me to buy a new mouse to see if the mouse is bad. So I guess I'll do that before I get any deeper into this. Thanks again.

  • Having problems with App Store and apps won't show on desktop or don't open

When I go to the App Store I download a application it downloads all the way the download is finish now it says open but when you tap open it don't open anything it don't even show on the home screen

Could it be on a different screen?
Swipe down and type the app name in the search field.
    Anyway, try a quick reset:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Palm Desktop software - Fails to open with msg "Error: Failed to open To Do List database"

In July 2009 I dropped my trusty Visor on a tile floor and it stopped working.  So, in the meantime I have been using only the Palm Desktop software.
Just a couple days ago, when I attempted to launch the Palm Desktop software, it failed with the message “Error: Failed to open To Do List database”.  I think this error may have been caused by a very ungraceful shut-down of my Win XP system the day before.
I really don’t care about the To Do List data since I really don’t use it --- in fact, I haven’t used it in many months.  However, I really do need to use the Palm Desktop software for my contacts, calendar, and memo.  The problem is that the error with the To Do List database seems to be preventing the Palm Desktop software from initializing.
Just guessing, I saved the todo.dat and todo.bak files by renaming them, and then renamed the todo.bak file to todo.dat.  Then I attempted to launch the Palm Desktop application, but it failed with the same error “Error: Failed to open To Do List database”.
I also tried renaming all of the todo files so that none had a name of todo.dat or todo.bak.  The result is that the Palm Desktop software still will not start up.
I think I am using Palm Desktop 4.0.1, at least that is what the help text file seems to tell me.
I am grateful for any assistance.  Thank you.

Your on the correct path by saving the data by renaming the files. But to resolve this error we need to remove the data all together. Since you no longer need this data if you just delete it then it should not matter. If Palm Desktop is giving this error but will not open I doubt that the data can be recovered in any event.

  • I need to know how to change default browser for my desktop icloud apps to open with.

I like to use the desktop icloud apps, but when i use them, they open with IE when my default browser I like to use is Chrome. Is there a way to make it open with Chrome when I open Calendar or iCloud from my desktop instead of IE?
thankyou for your help in advance!

Ed...maybe a little less time gaming and a bit more time in English class? They got this thing called punctuation and sentences now. Last things first; there is no amount of money that can change your GPU so you can scratch that expense off the list. So you need a battery and a fan? Where do you live? USA? We can help you find a battery but where did you plan to have the new fan put in?

  • CS2 files won't open with double clicking

Not sure what's going on here but my InDesign CS2 files don't see the InDesign application as the default. I have right-clicked and gone to "Open with ..." but get this, InDesign CS2 isn't in the application list.
OK, so I Browse to the application - no problems there, but when I select InDesign.exe and click "OK" .... it still doesn't appear in the list.
The only thing I have done recently is uninstall our old version of InDesign CS which was no longer being used.
    Any ideas ? I'm stumped.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike - I ran a registry cleanup as you suggest - found a few problems as well ! However, no joy with the file association. InDesign still doesn't appear in the options list and when I browse to:
    Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS2\InDesign.exe
and select InDesign.exe, the application still doesn't appear in the list !
    Any other ideas ?

  • PDF file won't open with double click

    Mac OSX 10.6.8/Acrobat 10.1.3.
Suddenly pdf files won't open with a double click, I now have to open Acrobat and file>open.
Also, once they're open, they won't close by clicking the red close dot, I now have to go to file>close.
    Very frustrating!

Even reinstalling doesn't work with the standard Creative Suite installer. Except for the double-click bug, Acrobat doens't respond to dock-tasks either, like <right-mouse-click> on dock icon and select <quit>.
In this version of Acrobat, the repair function doen't seem to exist anymore. Sadly....
So the problem keeps existing, even with the laterst 10.1.4 version.

  • Titles don't open with the "show fonts" available, so I can't change the fonts or the color

How may I always open the titles so that they always open with the "show fonts" rectangle available on the top left corner. I am unable to change many of my titles, because they didn't open with that message.

It depends on what theme/title you choose. Not all of them are adjustable and you should exercise its possibilities as soon as you add them to your project. If you don't see the "Show Fonts" button on the upper left corner, you should choose another title if you so desire to change the default fonts or colors.
    Regards.

  • Images don't open when double clicked

I have CS3 installed on a MacBook Pro.  Since installing Snow Leopard images will no longer open when double clicked or dragged onto the application icon.  The only way to open an image is through the open file menu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Steve

This is covered in the FAQs. Its for older systems but it just goes to show Apple still hasn't fixed it.

  • "Open with" double listings

If I go to any given file and do a 'control click', then select 'open with', I see 2 of every program listed ... so Safari is listed twice, Adobe Acrobat is listed twice, and so on.
Has any one else seen this? Does anybody know how to correct this?
    Thanks!!
    Matt

It is handy. I also use it to run the chron scripts (Maintenance > Scripts), which are the daily/weekly/monthly cache/log cleanouts that should run automatically, but only do so if your machine is left on overnight. (I just run them occasionally as a group, not actually daily/weekly/monthly; if you really want to run them on schedule, there are other utilities, like Macaroni that will run them on schedule, but that's not necessary IMHO.)
    Thanks for the !

  • Open with menu not showing icons

Hi, since i installed Mavericks i've been experiencing some issues, and the one i need to solve right know is this:
In this example is only with media players but it happens with other apps too, both system and non-system apps. I've tried this command:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain user;killall Finder;echo "Open With has been rebuilt, Finder will relaunch"
that is used to delete duplicated items on "Open With" menu but it doesn't solve this Icon issue.. I also deleted com.apple.LaunchServices.plist  from ~/Library/Preferences/  and it didn't helped. I don't know what to do anymore.
Please help me out with this, i don't want to do a fresh install again.

OS X does that constantly. If you click anywhere away from the contextual menu to close it, then perform the same right click, then they'll show.

  • Palm Desktop software - Fails to open with msg "Error: Failed to open Address Book database"

In July 2009 I dropped my trusty Visor on a tile floor and it stopped working.  So, in the meantime I have been using only the Palm Desktop software.
Just yesterday, when I attempted to launch the Palm Desktop software, it failed with the message “Error: Failed to open Address Book database”.  I think this error was caused by a very ungraceful shut-down of my Win XP system yesterday.
I really do need to use the Palm Desktop software for my address list, calendar, and memo.  The problem is that the error with the Address Book database seems to be preventing the Palm Desktop software from initializing.
I am using Palm Desktop 4.0.1 on Windows XP SP3.  I do NOT  have an export file of the Palm address book or other databases.  However, I do have five levels of backup history on my external Maxgor backup drive.
Specifically, on my current c drive I have files in the directory:
    C:\Program Files\Handspring\WR\address
address.bak                  5/16/2009   (from last sync before I broke Visor)
                address.dat                   5/24/2011
                Personal.ABA                11/6/2008
                Unfiled.ABA                   3/28/2008
On my most recent backup of my system, there are the following files:
address.bak                 5/16/2009   (from last sync before I broke Visor)
                            address.dat                  5/12/2011
                            Personal.ABA              11/6/2008
                            Unfiled.ABA                  3/28/2008
I have not listed the four older backup versions.
I haven’t tried any corrective measures yet (I don’t want to make matters worse) and am hoping that someone can guide me along the right path.
Is it possible for me to just rename the “current” address.dat file to something like address.SAV and then copy the Address.dat file file with date of 5/12/2011 into the current directory.  Will the software then just use the older version of the data, or must I do something else.
I am grateful for any assistance.  Thank you very much.

Thanks for the speedy response.  However, I read the article for which you provided the link, and I hve also read many other articles that I found via search, but I don't think these will help me.  All of these articles seem to assume that (1) you have a handheld to which you can sync and thereby rebuild the database on the PC, or (2) you have a backup that you created via the Palm Desktop export function.  Unfortunately, I have neither and so I don't think any of these solutions will work for me.
I did read with great interest an article that stated that recent versions of Palm Desktop have a built-in function that will repair a corrupted Datebook database.  Will this also fix a corrupted Address Book database which is my problem?
So, I downloaded and attempted to install the latest version of Palm Desktop.  I was careful to read the instructions that stated NOT to uninstall my current version of Palm Desktop, but to just install the latest version on top of my current Palm Desktop.  However, when I attempted to do the installation, the installer software said it could not install on top of my current software and that I should first uninstall my current software.
    I have some questions now:
    (1) If I uninstall my current version of Palm Desktop, will this destroy my Address Book, Datebook, and Memo databases ( I don't care about the ToDo database)?  If so, what can I do to preserve those databases?
    (2) Is there really a function built in the recent versions of Palm Desktop that will fix a corrupted database?  Is this an "automatic" function that will detect and fix a broken database or is this something I will have to invoke?
    Thanks for your help.
