Desktop size ........ HDMI

I connected my MacBook pro to TV via HDMI cable.  When I rebooted the desktop (fonts on menu bar, etc) was huge.  I could read it from across the street it is so large.  How do I return to original size?

I found an answer using terminal, was a QT file and I was able to delete it doing this

  • Smaller desktop size but preserving screen resolution (add borders)

Does anyone know if it's possible to add borders to my screen (the device) (using xrandr maybe)?
I have some old TV which has HDMI connector. It can show 720p resolution. Problem is that, for some very odd reason, it cuts about 20px from _every_ side, thus leaving the top bar on my desktop hidden, which is more than annoying.
I believe the problem is on the software on that TV. I actually work on a place where I could have access some service manuals of this TV. So far I haven't found any way to correct this problem. Unfortunately I cannot upgrade the software of that TV because we have services only for household machineries which don't include TVs. Thus we don't have proper equipment for upgrading the software.
Soooo this bring me here: asking you if it's possible to set desktop size little a smaller to fit it on my TV. I'd like not to have it configured on XOrg's confs because I normally use my second monitor in place of that TV and with my intel GPU (on laptop) I cannot have more than two monitors connected at the same time.
In case if it's relevant I use awesome (wm).
    Thanks in advance!

Oh, I HATE that! It's called overscan.
A mythtv thread here may help you fix it.
The only thing I use my TV for is to watch videos using mplayer. Even though the borders of my desktop are cut off because of overscan, mplayer seems to "just work" and play the videos correctly.

  • Win Xp VM on OVS - Increase virtual desktop size to 1920x1080(full screen)

    Hi,
I've installed Windows Xp virtual machine on Oracle Virtual Server host.
I use the XP VM by Microsoft Remote Desktop function from another windows desktop PC.
The Xp VM desktop size is max. 1600x1200/16bit.
I'd like to use the Xp VM by Ms RDP in full screen mode(1920x1080 resolution), but I can't.
Please help me, how should I setup the Oracle Virtual Server to get the 1920x1080 resolution in this situation.
    Regards,
    Battila

    Hi,
this has nothing to do with OVS.
Resolution of Microsoft Remote Desktop is set in Windows directly, and does not depend on the underlying hardware of the server.

So you should be able to define that @ you client side.

  • Desktop Size Mysterious Change

iMac Core Duo, 21" Monitor, 2 gigs ram
This is weird. I have three profiles on this iMac. Mine is the administrator account. My resolution is set for 1680 X 1050. All has been well until a few minutes ago when my destop size suddenly grew! Now, whenever I move the mouse pointer to select something the desktop slides over as well. It's as if it's got a few hundred more pixels on each side, hidden from view. This behavior is not present on the other profiles nor on this one that I just created. Does anyone have an explanation? Thanks.

  • Desktop size no longer fits screen size after restart

Since restarting my iMac today, I cannot get to a full image of everything on the desktop anymore at the resolution setting I used before (second highest, 1344x840); and when I choose full resolution (1680x1050) the desktop only covers 2/3 of the screen. In the closest setting to filling the 20" screen (1344x840) the desktop is slightly larger than the screen (bottom or top cutoff)
The letter and picture image also seems slightly more blurry in 1388x840 than before, probably because everything is blown up a bit beyond what it should be.
Regardless of what resolution I choose, every time I move the mouse in one direction, the desktop moves slightly in the opposite direction, stopping only when it reaches the border of the screen (like when you use really magnified settings.)
I did not change a thing since shutdown last night, nor have I ever experienced anything like this before.
Any remedies? (I did disk utilities/repair but nothing changed)
    Thanks,
    PP

Hi PP: Try this: System Preferences > Universal Access, and turn Zoom off. Or, hold the Control key and scroll downwards.
    Hope this helps

  • EX5210 to MacBook Pro... I can't project my desktop using HDMI connection.

However,  I can show a PPT display. What if I want to do a live web demo from my desktop internet connection?

The default supported by Mac OS X is Extended desktop. It looks like this:
The displays are connected along an edge, and you are free to drag anything, including an Application window, so that part or all of it appears on either or BOTH displays.
PowerPoint may be taking extensive liberties with the standard interface to get its windows up.

  • Large Desktop size but nothing is there

When I look at my user folder, the desktop folder says that there's almost 1GB worth of stuff in there, but when I look at the desktop - I'm not currently storing any files there. It seems that there are a bunch of hidden files. I would like to get that hard disk space back if I can. Any suggestions? I tried running a repair permissions in Disk utility but that did not seem to fix the situation.

  • New Nvidia Driver ver 260 for Mac Mini 2010 and HDMI problems.

So this is the first release from Nvidia that is installable "out of the box" directly from Nvidia. Unfortunately, I'm now running into problems with getting the resolution to scale on my HDMI connected HDTV.
When I go into Nvidia properties and select "Adjust desktop size and position", I'm only give 4 options to change the scaling. Unlike the old Bootcamp version which had an option to manually adjust the screen by make the arrows fit on all sides, this new version has the options of:
When using a resolution lower than my displays native resolution...
    -Use NVIDIA scaling
-Use NVIDIA scaling with fixed aspect ratio
    -Use my display's built-in scaling
    -Do not scale
So when I set my display to 1176x664, The resolution changes, however, it still goes beyond the visible border. Changing any of the options above doesn't seem to change anything-
I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing these same issues, or knows how to remedy it?

I completely agree with your assessment for Problem #1, but here we have it.
I will try re-installing and will also double check with the drivers for the monitor. Thanks for the advice. If all else fails, I will just use parallels.

  • Desktop Pictures missing in preferences but not in Library...

When I go to change my desktop picture in system preferences and I click on a folder (like "nature" or "abstract"), the pics in that category do not appear and the preview screen stays blank. I checked and the files are still under Library->Desktop Pictures and I can select them from there if a add a new folder to the system preferences desktop pics list. The problem is that this should not be happening... anyone have a fix?

Not a fix but something I found out the hard way.. When I use quartz images that do not have the same size as my desktop and I scale them to fit my desktop size my graphics in general give trouble. Screen savers that will not run in test mode. Screen savers running black in the background, Photo Booth issues. Depth of the screen is reduced. If you use custom desktop pictures don't resize them to fit your screen, center them or just have them full screen. They somehow don't scale well.

kerchoo wrote: how do i fix my desktop it is displaying the taskbar and desktop screen display to the left of the screen??? i have tried updating, sytem restore, changing screen display resolution,
Hello kerchoo, Are you referring to the Taskbar of the entire desktop screen?
If it is the Taskbar, just left click on the Taskbar, hold down the mouse button, and drag the Taskbar to the bottom of the screen or any other location and release the mouse button.
If you are referring to the entire desktop screen, and you have already tried changing the resolution, you might take a look at the monitor screen adjustments on the monitor itself.
There should a button for a Menu, where you can navigate to move the screen from top to bottom, left to right and so forth.
You may also take a look in the Control Panel, Nvidia Control Panel, and in the Adjust Desktop Size and Position, check the box for Full-Screen. If you have an ATI video card and not an Nvidia, you would look for the ATI Control Panel.
Please let us know if this is not what you are experiencing.

  • How to setup a default size for new divs in fluid grid layout in dreamweaver?

    Hi,
how to setup a default size for a new divs in fluid grid layout in dreamweaver? I don't need the default size for new divs as a 100% width, I need them 13.69% as a one coulmn width only (7 coulmns fluid grids layout for desktop size 1000w).
This problem I've faced when I intended to insert dozens of fluid grid divs in the layout.

Sorry, I don't believe that you have had a good look at the Foundation framework. I'll now hold your hand while we go through the basics.
Here is the specific page http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/grid.html
    The default values are
    Em-base : 16px
    Row width: 62.5em (62.5em x 16px = 1000px)
    Columns per row: 12
These and other default values can be changed. The fact of the matter is that if you stipulate a section width of 2 or 3 or 12 columns, the widths will automatically be calculated for you.
In your case, if you want 7 columns, all you need to do is change the number of columns per row and the rest is done for you.

  • Airplay display issues: "extend desktop" not working properly. Secondary display continues to mirror.

Whenever I turn my airplay display on and set it to "extend desktop," my secondary display (TV) continues mirroring my mac book pro (hereinafter MBP). It doesn't fully mirror my MBP, but my secondary display registers every time I switch between my desktop 1 and my full screen apps. Moreover, When I do switch to a fullscreen app on my MBP, I get a blank (blue-ish) screen on my TV.
    Any solutions!?!
Additionally, "extended desktop" for my Airplay display worked properly when Mavericks was first released.

    Try this:
Click on the Apple TV Icon on the top toolbar
Then, select "Mirror Built in Display" instead of extend desktop
In the same menu under "Match Desktop size to:" select "Apple TV" (or keep it on "built in display if that works"
This solved a similar problem for me.

  • How to design a fluid site at a specific largest size?

I liked the sizing of the "desktop" preview standard in dreamweaver so I mocked up a whole site at that size only to find out there are sizes above it that stretch out the page. Should I ALWAYS design websites at the largest size ( 1580 w x 1050 h  ) so I am sure it won't scale up at all? The pages size down perfectly so I know I have the space settings and text (% and em) set up correctly. Why wouldn't it just size up?
Is there a way I can set the max size? I have the desktop size at 12 column with a fill size of 80%. Above the picture it says 1232px.
Oh, I wanted to make a site at the 960 fluid grid size.

I changed the max width for the desktop layout to be 960px, which worked fine but I am confused as to what the options are in the New Fluid Grid Layout dialog box. The phone and tablet view are fine. But the desktop says 1232px. I am guessing that is for the width. Then I have the percentage set to 80%. So now it is 80% of 1232 which would be around 985? I create the pages as so and click on the desktop view. But it says 1000 x 888. Where did that come from? The tablet says it is 768, and the phone says 480, just as it did in the dialog box.
The actual grid area for the desktop view is 800px, the 80% I set before. So now I change that to be 96% so the grid is 960px wide, the width I want. This would work perfectly fine for me if it never got bigger than the 960px. What I don't get is the three settings (desktop, tablet, and phone) are the points at which the design changes if I want, correct? So why would there be any options bigger than the desktop size???
If the desktop size is the size I want the design to be at its' largest, it should continue to stretch to the 1600 x 1200 maximized that is listed....
I spent a day designing a site at the 960px wide only to find when I expand my window past that point, it stretches the grid area to that 1600 x 1200 w. I made all my images in the 3 different sizes to accomodate different media viewings. Why do I have the option to put in custom sizes if it doesn't matter that it will go larger and distort everything?
Is the correct way to just set the number of columns I want then set a min and max width? I figured it would just create the grid how I wanted it in the first place.

  • Problem: How to reduce display size in Xorg

I am really stuck at this. The problem is as follows:
I have a DIY projector which uses a 17'' 1280x1024 LCD (Samsung 740n). Due to some technicalities the top and bottom 100px of the display are mostly unusable and I have covered them in isolation tape so that stray light cannot pass. I want to configure X to use only 720px vertical (1280x720) without changing the resolution (it must stay 1280x1024, otherwise the LCD will expand it to fit the whole screen).
Graphically presented it would look something like this:
    XXXXXXXXXXX
    OOOOOOOOOO
    OOOOOOOOOO
    OOOOOOOOOO
    XXXXXXXXXXX
Xs are unused space (black bars)
Os are usable display space (1280x720)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yes. The LCD will stretch everything you give it that's not 4:3, that sucks.

    Virtual 1280 720
Was the first thing I tried, actually. It doesn't really work, I tried it with several other options. It either stretched the picture or did nothing. I think the only possible way to do it would be to send a 1280x1024 to the videocard and fooling X into thinking its usable desktop size is 1280x720. I don't know if this makes any sense whatsoever, I'm not really familiar on how X interacts with the hardware.
