as you may KNow the new skype is a crock.
i have had nothing but problems with it.
the camera option keeps crashing my machines.
after trying all i decided to get rid off the APP version and install the old 6.3.0.107
BRILLIANT all problems where solved it dinnt look like my pc was an Ipad
it was all much more usable again
my camera`s all worked even an old Genius EYE110 without crashing all communication was fine with my contacts.
i was just about to post back that all was fine.
THEN it told me to sighn back in: would not accept my password.
changed three times. still no good.although its fine in my account and on this forum.
basically microsoft are forcing people to use this desktop embedded crap that nobody likes, when using windows 8/8.1
anyone else out there who feels the same .
seems they are trying to monopalise again.
do they still not get that not all there softwere is any good.
i can understandusing desktop style skype on a small phone or tablet is usefull and just about usable as a gimmick.I dont think its sutable for a pc what so ever
after wasting so much time trying to use it i am ******* fumming

iv`e sorted a work around for both the genius eye110 and the microsoft VX-800.
using skype ver 6.21.0.104 :ENSURE THE STORE APP IS NOT INSTALLED:
i don`t believe how slow iv`e been to solve this:Right click on the skype icon and set to windows 7 compatibillity mode and save settings:BINGO BOTH CAMERAS WORK FINE>
how easy was that i must be going senile.
i`m am happy now with this system setup and can get on with what i was trying to do on this
dev system not bothered about app store version (good for tablets its not praticle for Pc use).

Desktop Skype Can't Connect

Hello there, I haven't had many issues with the desktop Skype. It was only this morining that I was suddenly unable to connect. Whenever I would open Skype and try to log in, I would be met with the spinning animation "Signing In..." and after maybe two minutes, the screen would revert back to the login page with the caption "Skype can't connect". I am positive that both the username and password are correct (I even tested it with fake ones, yielding the same result). I have tried to fix this problem multiple times by uninstalling and reinstalling completely as detailed by the various guides within the help section but to no avail. I have restarted my computer and tried changing the port, but the issue still remained. I have no issues with the internet (chrome or IE), and the problem appears to only be isolated to Skype. I have not installed anything or changed anything with my computer between last night and this morning (I was on a call yesterday by the way), so I am unsure as to why the change happened so suddenly. I did have this issue once before, but it was fixed with just a Skype update. When I click "About Skype" the following version appears:7.2.59.103 I am using Windows 7 I am not the most tech-savy person, so I could have missed something, but all the guides and solutions that I have tried failed. Try to reset all Skype settings. Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old. Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder. Restart Skype. N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

You can setup Mail for iCloud on the eMac.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.

You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
• Server name: imap.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 993
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password

Current situation for 945GM and below users -- downgrade only option?

I'm running ArchLinux on an Acer 5610-4610(Intel 945GM, 950GMA), and I've almost(...*almost*) gotten used to seeing mesa, xorg-server, and such being on the pacman ignore notification when I update(I can't use the latest xf86-video-intel and therefore the latest dependencies an utterly handicapping reduction in performance), and this recent fiasco I've had with the transition to hotplugging makes matters even worse.
Staying with downgraded xorg-server means ignoring evdev and such upgrades, I would imagine, so my question is this: is my only option until kernel-2.6.29 is released(a month 1/2 from now?) to keep this growing number of packages downgraded to retain usability on ArchLinux?

Could you elaborate on your problems? Why you can't use the latest Intel drivers? Do they have a bug that prevents you from using them? Is the bug an upstream one or Arch specific? Arch is not even using the latest, but the 2.4.x series.
And you say that staying with the old packages is utterly handicapping performance for you? You mean that if you do upgrade your packages you get much better performance but also some showstopper bug?
I have two desktops with an Intel IGP and don't have any problems. One has the latest G45 chipset and the other an old 845G one. Also a laptop with GM965 has no problems, but that one's running Ubuntu, not Arch.

IOS 4.2 just killed my iPod...I guess contacting support's my only option?

So I just tried to update to 4.2 today, and iTunes sat for ages on a screen that said "verifying download with Apple" or something like that, with the iPod displaying an Apple with a progress bar that isn't filled at all... iTunes eventually timed out and said something like an unknown error has occurred, and then...that's it.
If I disconnect and reconnect the iPod, Windows makes the sound that it's recognized a new USB device, but iTunes doesn't 'see' it.
Is there a way to force a firmware update or something? Is sending it to Apple the only option?

I am a first time Apple iPod user. I've owned the iTouch 4th gen since early October.
iTunes asked to do its update, I clicked yes, browsed then net for a bit and then iTunes told me that it's update had failed. Since then, iTunes won't register nor recognize it as an iPod. Running Windows Vista currently and my system tries to install what information that the iPod should be holding. Also asks for a disc, but it never came with a disc. So now, it has been stuck on the USB/iTunes screen for about 4 hours now.
Yes I have tried all tips noted in this thread. For the time being, I shall be checking back every now and then to see if anything new pops up here and I am going to give Apple's Tech support a call tomorrow morning.

Adobe Reader/MAC will not quit. It says it is printing and is not. There is no "Force Quit" option.

Adobe reader for MAC is locked up. It thinks it is trying to print but nothing is happening. There is no force quit option as with other MAC programs. I cannot restart the computer because Adobe won't quit. I tried moving it to trash and it won't. I tried installing again but installation wants me to quit the currently installed program. I have tried to turn off the computer, but adobe is still locked when I turn it back on. Any ideas how to get around this problem?

Try a DVD Movie, YouTube Video, an Application or Game with sound?
Go to System Preferences > Sound Effects and try selecting some different "alert sounds?
If it is only while using iTunes, check your iTunes volume slider?
If it is system wide, run the Extended Apple Hardware Test to see if it finds a problem with your sound card?

Try this:
Restart, using the power button if you cannot reach the item in the Apple menu.
When you hear the chime immediately hold these four keys down: command, option, p and r. All four keys together - you may need to use both hands. Keep holding the keys down and let the Mac chime two more times. Release the keys.

Unable to upgrade student Photography plan ($10/m) to Complete Plan ($15/m), instead only option is $25/m?

New to the forums here, but I've got a question I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere.
I'm a University student and purchased the Creative Cloud Photography Plan, for Photoshop and Lightroom, for $10/month. Though as Uni has progressed I realise I'll also need access to Flash, Illustrator, etc., and I saw the Complete Plan available to students for $15/month. That's affordable and so I'm happy to pay the extra $5 every month, however I can't get any option to upgrade my plan to the Complete Plan for $15/m - the only option I'm given is $25/month, which is out of budget for me.
How could I get the complete plan for students, rather than paying an extra $10 a month simply because I got the Photography Plan first? I see the only possibility is cancelling my current plan and purchasing the new one, though a cancellation fee for such a scenario seems a little unfair.

I can see that you have purchased complete individual CC Creative Cloud Student and Teacher edition on March 19th 2015.
Please let us know in case of any issue. Technically you just need to sign out & sign back in of the CC desktop app to activate the new CC.

Desktop skype signs out when I open onedrive.live....

Hello.
I have a strange issue with my desktop skype client.
When I signed in on my desktop client and open onedrive in me IE or Firefox, then my desktop skype signs out.
Also I noticed that when I signed in on my desktop client and on my windows phone, /showplaces shows two endpoints - desktop and phone, but then if I open onedrive in my browser, then /showplaces shows only one endpoint - desktop.
It seems that opening onedrive in a browser signs me out from one of endpoints.
My skype account is linked to live id. I use skype account on my desktop skype and live id on phone and browser. Desktop skype version is 6.21.0.104.

Desktop Skype not launching

I am currently using desktop skype version 7.4 and I have OS windows 8.1. Today all of a sudden skype will not launch. I try to open it and get a loading icon on my cursor and nothing happens at all. I tried re-installing it and checking any updates and anti virus options but nothing worked.
How can I fix it please? I really need it.
I appreciate if anyone could suggest anything. Thankyou

Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

Software Update - no Download only option

Good afternoon.
The version of Software Update shipping with 10.6.n has no 'Download Only' option. A real nuisance when you are used to downloading updates and deploying them via Apple Remote Desktop.
Furthermore, some updates listed in Software Update are not on the Support/Downloads area to download manually.
I wonder if anyone out there has a workaround to enable Software Update to 'Download Only' please?

Hi. Thanks for this. I already do what you suggest, but not all the indicated updates are available by download. There was a Bonjour update that was not listed in Support/Updates for example.

I was updating my iphone 3gs. I lost internet connection when my went to restart (I forgot I was using hotspot). Now when I connect my phone to finish, the only option it gives me is to restore. I don't want to do this. I have disconnected and restarted phone and macbook pro. Software is up to date. What can I do?

If the only option is giving is to restore or has a connect to itunes logo - then that is the only option you have. You may need to put it in forced recovery mode in order to restore. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808?viewlocale=en_US
Once restored you can restore from a backup or sign into icloud in order to recover any contacts, etc that you had on the phone previously. If you are still missing contacts, which is usually one of the most important things on a phone than make sure you have added any and all email accounts you previously had on the phone.

Why renting shouldn't be only option.

I think that when you (adobe) kill my CS 5.5 (license server) i can't install it anymore to new computer. After that i am slave who must pay every month 62€ in finland.. if i use CC and i have no money for next month because of bad life situation - i can't edit my files anymore even if i would need it for my freelance work for getting money to pay it. This is the issue. I don't want to pay 60€ from month if i don't even use all those apps and features, i might use them 3 times in month some times so it is not worth of 62€.. And i don't know if they stop updating it anymore, but i still have to pay it every month. I want to plan my future, that's why i buy everyhting.
For example: I have lord of the rings DVD orig and extended, because extended included some nice material, but i have no HD version because i don't need it at the moment. I do rent some movies but if i like it and i know that i am going to watch it many many times then i will buy it because it's cheaper. I don't care if that movie get 1.5 version, but if it will get 2.0 version (with new plot, story, vfx etc.) then i might buy it if it is really good, but if not - then i will watch 1.0 and and wait for 3.0 - maybe that is better than 2.0 or 1.5... Or what if adobe stop updating programs or kills them (favorite ones)?
If i rent software i don't own it, and i have to pay it every month. If i buy something, i don't have to worry about that does my bank account has any money for food. That's why i don't use credit cards - because i want always know that how much money i have for tomorrow etc.
And how about those who has no internet connection?
What if everything would be monthly priced only: It would cost me:
Windows or Mac OS 50 € / month + Adobe 50 € /month + C4D 50€ / month + Mocha Pro 50€ / month + Syntheyes 50€ / month + Dpit effex 5 € / month + Turbulence FD 50 € / month + Chrome web browser 50 € / month + MS office 50€ / month, Modo 50€ / month... that would be = 500 € / month..
If i had hard times, i can use software which i own as long as my PC will work... if there is coming times when i have no money for monthly rent. But if i would bought my software i could use it even in those days when i have hard times and upgrade it when i have good times.
This why CS must live.
I want own my software.
In Europe i own boxed versions, the european union says in law that if i have bought the lisences i will own them and i can sell them. Just like my mp3s, i can sell them too.
And i can use my CS as long as my PC will work, and i have saved a lot with that way, now my only option is CC.
In EU i have right for my photos as well. for example: instagram can't own my photos and use them in EU area with changing their rules in instagram. They can only sell those picture in USA, if they want to sell them in EU area, they must pay for it, i own rights for my work.
I want to own right to use it and sell my copy to anybody if i need money in bad times.
Just like my car, i can sell it but it is so old that i will get money just and just for food and
if i have good times again in future, i can rent or buy new car.
And btw. you don't even own opensource code.. the coder has always the rights for it, he owns it, and he can change it any moment he wants it. At least in EU - you have right for your work always. But sure, if you download opensource before the creator change the rules of license, you can use it if he has give lisence for to use it. It is same thing: right to use it. Same thing in cars.. cds.. music... everything. But to right to use the copy of it and sell it, that will be enough for me, there are no these possibilities in rent system.
Because by owning right to use and sell your copy, you have something what has value.
Pirated software has no value.
It is good that we have option to rent, but we should have also option/possibility to buy permanent license for software copy and possibility to sell it because that way it has real value.

Freelancer can save money a lot if he/she will upgrade his/her program once in 5 - 10 years. There are lot of unneccessary features which i can skip easily.
Like this new pixel motion blur in After effects, it looks so similar (features, technology etc.) than CC Force Motion Blur.
And then there was this Blur fixing tool in PS, and some improvements in AE auto rotoscope tools (they can be handy tools, but those sounds old feature improvements).
Those does not sound innovations to mee, it sound like Adove have added old features to old tools (those new improvements in AE autorotoscope are from photoshop).
I think that subricpiton model can kill the development, because if everybody pays every month 60e /month (here in finland it is 60e)
that means that adobe do not have to worry about inventions.
In old model, adobe was have to always amazing us to get us buy new version, in this new model, there are no more coming big
updates which would amaze us to want the new version.
I do love my CS products which i "own", at least i own the lisence to use copy of CS and that i want it to be in future too.
But i am never going to rent any software from any developer because i will lose control if i would do that.
I own every software which i have, i am loayl customer, but i am not going to rent any software because i want to own things,
i own everything i have. I have only rented movies couple of times, but that is only because i wanted to know that
are they good - because if they are - i will buy them - same thing in software trials / demos, if they are really good and i need them

Every time i logged in kde session, desktop effects are disabled. If I try to change compositing mode I always get this error message:
Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.
Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type.
If i delete ~/.kde4 folder and restart the system, then I have default session and I can change compositing mode and all effects are working smoothly. But after next restart effects are gone again and this message occurs
Is there are any ways to investigate/debug step by step this sort of problem? All i have googled about this message is too old or does not helpoing in my case
I had fglrx driver 14.1, then i switched back to open source driver

Same here, every time I log in all the desktop effects were disabled, I tried reinstalling KDE and rebooting for several times but still get the same result. The only fix I know for now is to logout and login but even that does not always work.
