Desktop Software 6.1 crashes whenever I connect my device.
I've seen a lot of people having problems with the version 6 software but can't seem to find any definitive solutions.
I've been swapping around computers recently and installed the Desktop Software on two Windows 7 64 bit machines.
The program starts up fine, but as soon as it recognises my Curve, bring up the 'You've Connected a New Device' screen, it crashes with a message saying that 'a problem has caused the program to stop working correctly'.
In the mean time, I have managed to back up the curve with a number of XP machines and using V5 on my current machine.
One of the 64 bit machines worked fine with a 6.0xx installation and has only had problems since I updated. The other is brand new; therefore it seems to just be a problem with the latest version in my case.
Are there any fixes or anywhere to download previous versions of the software?
hi,
thanks for quick reply.
Am running a Windows 7 64-bit system with latest service packs, updates, etc and latest DM software.
have not tried a different profile or device yet so will do so and see if it works then, not sure what UAC is?
FYI - i did have the following update run this morning "
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2656355)" which i have uninstalled to see if it makes a difference but Dm still crashing.
Any help is much appreciated
Edits:
sorry- guessing UAC = User Account Control?
have plugged in a 9000 and the DM works no problems so it looks like the problem is specific to my handheld?
i remember that the first time i plugged in the phone this morning Ireceived an error for the onboard storage media on the phone and then ran a "media repair" application that popped up on the phone to repair the storage media. Have tried to connect phone with the MicroSD inserted and removed from the phone but still DM crashes.
Any clues?
Edit 2:
this is the error log from my PC - am not sure how to resolve?

Blackberry Desktop Software 4.7 crashes computers
Hi
I would like to have some advice on problems with the Blackberry Desktop Software and it crashing my computers. I am running XP on both computres and I have down loaded v4.7 of Desktop Software. When I connect my Storm or my 8800 to any of my two computers it crashes them. If I boot with the Storm connected then it does not crash initially but when I try to do an update it crashes the computer.
Please advise.
Thanks
MickeDesktop Manager 4.7 is newly released. I've too have noticed some irregular behavior to my PC with 4.7 but I'm not sure whether that is being caused by desktop manager or not.
For your case if you continuously face the same behavior then uninstall the 4.7 with all the settings and then install it again. If problem still continues then degrade to desktop manager 4.6.

Rebooted and installed BDS 6.0 bo47 and still it crashed.
I can't seem to find the solution. Can anyone help?

Hey whats up..... I'm new to the playbook and I'm having serious problems trying to connect my playbook with the blackberry desktop software. when i tried connecting it, a small windows popped up, saying "blackberry desktop software cannot communicate with the connected device.............. and if error to update". So i did. I'd already backed up the playbook the day before so it was ok when the small windows said, "all data would be remove and playbook would return to factory settings". I did all the procedures and the blackberry desktop software still wont connect to the playbook. I tried uninstalling the blackberry desktop software and re-installing it, but the same thing keep on showing up. So i cant access my playbook.

Desktop Software 7.1 crashes when trying to sync calendar
I had a Blackberry Bold 9700 and over time, i ended up with 100 of duplicate entries in my calendar. When I changed to a 9320 curve, i used my gmail profile and the same thing has happened. I have deleted my online gmail calendar, but when using the Desktop Software to replace the data, after about 10 mins of doing something, it crashes (I think it says something about Windows Vista) and says I need to close the program. Is there any easier way of deleting all entries on the device?
I faced such problem earlier with z10 , reinstalling the link help me though.

hi guys,
please help me if you can. i have a brand new BB 9300, and from day 1 i had a problem with it, i thought it was the battery as it would just switch off, it wouldnt even go to the red part of the battery life as normal, it would just turn itself off. so i thought i had a faulty battery. and went an brought a new one. the same thing was happening with this battery, infact it was worse, it wouldnt charge, then the phone wouldnt switch on (by this time i am pulling my hair out)
iv heard from a few people that it could be a software problem, so here i am trying to update my software. but when i open the BB desktop software, it tells me to connect my bb device, and it is connected. its charging from my pc that light is on, so it is def connected but the bb desktop is telling me it isnt????/
ANY ADVICE PLEASE GUYS.
thanksHi and Welcome to the Community!
It sounds like your battery has fully depleted...and therefore your BB cannot boot up. And until your BB boots up, it cannot communicate with the Desktop Software.
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. I know you say you bought a new battery, but please understand that "new" and "known good" are not necessarily the same thing. The best method is to find someone with an identical BB that has no issues...trade batteries with them and see what happens. If it turns out that your BB simply will not function correctly with any battery, then it is likely a hardware issue with the BB itself, for which no amount of internet-distance diagnostics nor OS/software solutions can help.
Good luck and let us know!

This was previously a problem with one of the older versions if iTunes and had stopped happening for a while with the new version. Any ideas why this may have recurred and how to fix it?
Go to the settings in your Jeep, "forget" the iPhone. And on the iPhone "forget" the jeep. Then put the Jeep in Pairing Mode and tap Settings/BlueTooth on the phone and pair them anew (which sounds less confusing than "repair them").

I've upgraded the software on my desktop and connected my Bold 9700 to my computer. It asked me for my device password but it's not accepting it. I'm up to 8/10 tries and I know I'll have issues if I keep trying. I've disconnected my bb but it is still wanting a password and not accepting it.
Also the password field on my bb is showing me the characters I'm typing in as opposed to astericks.
I don't know what is happening and I don't want to lose all my data. Help!

How to fix 11.2.2 spinning ball crashing issue when connecting a device
Hope this helps as it did for me, delete the sync services folder and bingo, the ball went away and my device connected instantly !!
This fix of deleting the SyncServices folder is for Mac systems. From your desktop / finder, click the "Go" menu at the top, then "Go to Folder ..." Paste this into the field ~/Library/Application Support
The SyncServices folder should be in there. I had both a SyncService and a SyncServices folder. The second one should, when deleted, help with the problem you and I both had of iTunes freezing when an iOS device is plugged in.Hope this helps as it did for me, delete the sync services folder and bingo, the ball went away and my device connected instantly !!

I've tried my iPod Touch, Shuffle, my iPhone 4, and my other halfs Nano and nothing. It syncs when I open iTunes but it has also stopped opening Last FM and scrobbling also. Do I need to do a reinstall?
Check iTunes / Preferences - Devices
Deselect: Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.
Make sure: Open iTunes when this (device) is connected is selected from the Summary tab. -
Desktop Software causes blue screen of death upon sync attempt
I've had this problem off and on (mostly on) since upgrade to version 6.0 bundle 2647 of the desktop software. The desktop software starts up normally. Upon connecting the device (Torch 9800) one of the following occurs:
1. The screen on the device flashes with the connection graphic, then computer goes BSOD.
2. The device is recognized, asks for my password in DTS, put in password, looks as if synch process is about to start, then computer goes BSOD.
3. The device is recognized, password entered, sync proceeds normally.
I get the BSOD about 75% of the time, which means I'm scared to sync very often ... which is a huge problem. When I do attempt to sync, I've learned the hard way to save all data, shut down all programs, and cross my fingers.
My computer is HP TouchSmart tx2, AMD Turion X2, running Vista - 64. I have no problems with any other applications.
I've looked on other forums, tried checking for upgrades, patches, etc. After being a loyal BB proponent since the early days, I'm about ready to leave the reservation. I can't tolerate having RIM products jacking up my computer (which I use to make a living).
If anybody can help me out, point me in the right direction, I certainly appreciate it.
Thanks!Any option just produces the message again for approx. 3 tries then my entire system goes to Blue Screen of Death and starts dumping memory.
Just in case you're still around, bubba ...
What text and numerical codes are you getting on the blue screen? If it's mentioning a specific filename too, let us know what that is too.
For example:
STOP 0x00000023 (0x000f00b5, 0xfc4af978, 0xfc4af7b4, 0xfeff4a6b)

===================================================I may have found the problem.
Before, I have always been working on a computer not connected to my employer's network. When installing DM, I always had to select the BIS ("personal email") option.
Now, my computer is connected to the employer's network.Since my device is still syncing wirelessly, I assumed I would still need to use the BIS ("personal email") option.
While troiubleshooting this issue, I noticed when I type netstat that the BES is showing in the TCP connections list. So, on a whim I tried reinstalling DM 5.0.1 with the BES ("work email") option selected. It no longer crashes when I connect my device. -
Blackberry desktop software doesn't connect with address book
blackberry desktop software version 2.4.0 doesn't connect with address book on a mac os lion (10.7.4). Sync contacts not possible. Use a BB 9500 v5.0.0.841 (plateform 4.2.0.380). Any solution ?
You have both Desktop Software and Link set to open when a device is connected to your Mac. You need to go to the settings of Desktop Software (I don't recall exactly what to do but there should be some settings in the top right corner) and set it to not open when a device is connected. Once you have it set to not open when your phone is connected, make sure that Link is set to open. That should resolve your issue.
Let us know if that helps you.
- If my response has helped you, please click "Options" beside my post and mark it as solved. Clicking the "thumbs up" icon near the bottom of my response would also be appreciated.
