Desktop Software and Roxio

To Everyone at Blackberry
I'd just like to thank you for causing me to spend almost 20 hours to date fixing all the problems with my PC (windows XP pro) that your awful sotware has caused.
i really do NOT want to put this software back on my PC or any other computer until you can assure me it is safe. In any case, it won't open from the downloads on your website anyway! the original version on the CD enclosed with my phone is clearly corrupt.
is there any way of transferring files to and from my phone without using your damaging product? if not, i will NOT be replacing my blackberry phone with another one when it comes up for upgrade from my supplier next year.
surely you must realise from the number of issues identified on this site and the complete failure of any of your 'fix it' advice, that your software it unsound and not fit for the purpose it was supplied for.

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!
We are so sorry that you are having so many difficulties. While many experience the same (a search here will reveal that fact), there are also many who have very positive experiences with their BB. Not every device is suitable for everyone -- which IMHO is why there are so many choices.
In regards to your hope that RIM will see your message -- these forums are a user-to-user support channel, not a user-to-RIM conduit. As such, it is unlikely that they will see what you have written. However, if you have specific and constructive ideas for them, I have heard that they accept such via email to [email protected]
As to your specific question, to move files to/from the BB, you need to enable Mass Storage Mode and have the USB drivers installed onto your PC...the full DTM package is not required to use your BB as a USB drive (or drives, if you also have a Media Card).
For reference, here is a post written by our very own Xandrex that discusses it:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Desktop-Software/HOWTO-use-your-blackberry-as-a-US...
While, in his post, Xandrex references an older driver version, the most current versions can be obtained here:

  • Can't install or uninstall Desktop software and Roxio Media Manager has taken over

I had been having trouble with the Blackberry Desktop software crashing each time I closed it when I was done using it. This morning when I booted my computer I got an error message that said RoxWatchTray9 was unable to locate component. When I tried to close that box it attempted to install something but it just stalls. When I close try to cancel it just freezes. After while it tries to install again only to freeze again.
I figured the best solution would be to uninstall and reinstall the program but when I went into Add/Remove I discovered six listings for Blackberry Device Software for Blackberry 9530 smartphone, one for v5.0 and five for v4.7.0. I finally managed to uninstall the v5.0 at the top of the list but I can't remove the other five. I also can't reinstall the program. Roxio Media Manager continues attempting to force an install and is hogging my system resources. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Try this process (you might have to do step 2 multiple times for each instance of what is showing in add/remove programs):
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/WIN7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again. You might also want to avoid Media Manager unless you really really need it.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager Soooo Slow

Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager are so slow. Why? Just getting them to open takes five minutes or more.

I'm glad I found this thread.
I loaded the Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager 2 days ago. It completely crippled my laptop (running Vista, 4GB RAM etc), which previously ran very well.
I suspected it was Roxio when I watched it take 20 minutes to install.
Worringly, my laptop was crippled without the Desktop or Roxio software being used. The response rate was once every 5 minutes, and when eventually getting to the Task Manager and looking at the Processes and Applications (a 15 minute job!), there was nothing untoward.
Having uninstalled them and rebooted, the laptop is back to its former glory so quite what Roxio was doing in the background, I have no idea. I won't be touching it again.

  • Desktop software and Windows xp

Hi, can anyone help me I am trying to download the drivers for the desktop software but it is not working. I am running windows xp sp3 32 bit. and a BB Torch 9800. I have uninstalled my previous BB desktop software and was hoping by installing a newer/different version that I might finally be able to sync my BB with my desktop.
    Thank you

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Sadly, from merely "it is not working", there is little to deduce...you'd need to tell us exactly the steps you attempt and exactly the results of each step, including the exact and complete content of any error messages presented to you. But, from "it is not working", there really is no way to make any sort of guess that would help you.
Nevertheless, perhaps some of the things in this thread will be of use to you:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
    Good luck!

  • Blackberry Desktop Software and 9800 Torch

I attached my cellphone to my PC and I see it charging. I open Blackberrry Desktop Software but it acts like I need to connect my cellphone even though it is already connected. What do I have to do to get the software to recognize my 9800 Torch ?

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!
    Cheers!

  • Desktop software and windows 8

When I launch desktop software (6.0 bundle 2647), it does not find my Torch 9800.  I am using Windows 8, 64 bit.  How can I sync my Outlook with my Bberry??

HI and Welcome to the Community!
Please refer to this to be sure you've properly done what is required:
KB32926 Support for BlackBerry Desktop Software on Microsoft Windows 8
    Also, this might be helpful:
KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
Otherwise, I would suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over (though I've no idea how to modify the instructions for Windows 8), and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, but those likely won't work for you given Windows 8. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.

  • I have accidently  established two (2) iclouds accts. This is causing major problems.  How do I delete one acct?? Also today I tried to sync my Blackberry 9930 with the BB Desktop software and I lost all my addresses on my BB phone

I lost all of my contacts on my Blackberry 9930 phone while trying to sync it with the Blackberry Desktop software since I upgrade from Mobile me to ICloud on my Mac book.  It seems that the Desktop Software can't recognise ICloud contacts/Groups and my calendar will now not sync either.  My husband has a Mac Pro and a Blackberry and is having the same problems.
I some how have two (2) icloud accounts.  How can I delete one???  Please help!

You can't actually delete an iCloud account but you can remove it by signing out at System Preferences>iCloud if it is the promary account, or in Mail, Contacts & Calendars if the secondary, and then juste ignore it.
The Blackeberry can only sync with data held under 'On My Mac'. iCloud can only sync with data under 'iCloud'.
When you set up iCloud your calendars and contacts were moved to the iCloud server. If you want to use Blackberry you will have to move them back to 'On My Mac' and not sync with iCloud: it's one or the other.
To move calendars, follow the second set of numbered instructions here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmovecalendars.html
To move contacts, File>Export as vCard when you have selected all your contacts, then delete the contacts under iCloud, make 'On My Mac' the default and reimport the vCard.

  • Cradle sync between BB Desktop Software and Zimbra

Hi, I am a new Black Berry user. Only received my phone yesterday. I searched the forum for a solution on how to sync my BB 9800 with BB Desktop Software (version 6.0.0.246) and Zimbra (My company's choice not mine) desktop client (Version B10580). The only solutions I found was for older versions of the BB desktop. When you configure the Desktop software Zimbra does not feature in the options list. Anyone out there with a workaround for this problem. I only care about my contacts and diary. I do not mind using the USB cable and BB desktop to do the syncing. Once a day syncing is all I require. We do not have BES. Only a few of us have BB devices. Most have Nokia phones (I was also a diehard very satisfied Nokia user - decided to try something different :-) )
    Regards,
    Kobus

While I don't know if any are compatible, you can find older versions of the RIM software here:

You also have the ability to synchronize via ASCII or CSV (exported from your desktop PIM):
KB04312 Create and synchronize with an ASCII export file
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
Sorry, but RIM provides no assistance on how to get your data out of your old device and into the ASCII or CSV format...that's a function of your old device.

  • Calendar Sync - Blackberry Desktop Software and Outlook

In synching Storm with Outlook using Blackberry Desktop software, I don't want to lose past records in Outlook on my laptop. Does anyone know the best way to accomplish that and still do a two-way synch? It appears that during the two-way synch although I specify 900 days before that the software wants to delete past Outlook records. A flow chart of the synch software logic would be helpful if that's out there anywhere.

  • I downloaded new desktop software and try to sync with 8530 but wont sync to outlook contacts and calander

i had blackberry desktop manager on my work computer and use to sync with outlook perfectly. 2 weeks ago i did a backup then sync as normal. i lost over half of my 600+ contacts and alot of calander listings on my phone. tried to sync again from computer to phone and lost more contacts and calander listings. so i tried to restore from the backup and lost more data. i reinstalled software from the cd i recieved last year when i purchased the 8530. the desktop software would not find outlook and would not sync. i deleted softwaqre and just downloaded new blackberry desktop software. it still will not find outlook on my computer and will not sync.
any suggestions what i may be doing wrong on getting software to find and sync with outlook?

    Hey Bryanw,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
First check your default services on the device under Options, Advanced Options, default services.
If the default services are configured correctly I would suggest try creating a new MAPI profile as outlined in this article http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02083 and then reconfigure the Desktop Software as shown here http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB17022
    Thank you.

  • No connection between Desktop software and Blackberry

All of a sudden on Thursday the phone and the desktop software stopped talking.  I've been through all of the suggestions in the 'Troubleshooting the Desktop Software' page and the phone still won't connect.  The desktop manager is simply showing 'Connect your Blackberry Device'.
Running XP Pro SP3, Desktop Software 6.1.0.35.
The phone is a Blackberry 9300 running software version 6.0 Bundle 2475 (v.6.0.0.546, Platform 6.6.0.207).
    Thanks for your suggestions.

So, it's now been a week since this stopped working and three days since I posted here about it.
Is there anywhere else I can go to get this fixed, since apparently Blackberry simply don't give a fig?

    Hello,
You seem perhaps to already have tried at least some of what is discussed in this thread, but I cannot tell if you've truly tried it all...therefore, I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Otherwise, it really sounds like you have some major conflict or issues with your Windows OS itself. While quite rare, it's not unheard of needing to completely reinstall Windows so as to get things working well. But, before you resort to that, you should do all of the normal Windows stuff -- Windows updates, check all of your apps for updates, run registry cleansers, run full virus scans, run malware detectors, etc. etc. etc. This very much sounds like a PC/Windows problem more than a Desktop Software problem.
    Good luck!
