Desktop Software installation won't start

I downloaded version 4.7 Desktop Software w/o media manager for XP SP3.  When I run it, it extracts the file, and the installshield starts up in the lower-right corner of the screen.  When it gets to 100%, it disappears... and then nothing else happens.  No installation screen comes up.  There aren't even any processes running related to the installation.
I also tried opening the self-extracting executable in Winzip and manually extracting it to a separate folder.  I ran "BlackBerrySetup.exe", and exactly the same thing happened.
I tried downloading the Desktop Manager software from Verizon, as well, with the exact same results. (I'm not sure which variation of v4.7 this was, but it was over 300 MB.)
Anyone have any idea of what's going on here?  Thanks for your help!
EDIT: I tried disabling McAfee VirusScan, too, to see if that was conflicting, but it didn't make any difference.

I've got the exact same problem... :'(  I had to flash my phone, and subsequently got an upgrade I'd been longing for... to 6.0. When I upgraded my desktop software to match my new phone upgrade, the software on my laptop JUST WOULDNT start!! The screen stays white. I've tried reinstalling from - the internet, and from -the cd, but it stays the same.    I decided to try a different approach, and connected the phone to my laptop, and now I cannot find my BBMessenger app, or my APPWorld button.    If I could find AppWorld, I'd probably just re-download BBM, but now they're both gone!   ...What do I do? Go back to version 5 on both counts? Does that imply I'd have to flash my phone again?  Just so *frustrated!!

  • BlackBerry Desktop Software installs but then fails to open

    Purchased BlackBerry today.
BlackBerry Desktop Software installs from distribution disc but then fails to open. Can see it in Windows Task Manager>Processes, as follows:
    Windows Task Manager>Processes
    Image Name: DesktopMge.exe CPU: 00 Mem Usage: 7,764 K
    Windows Task Manager>Applications
    Not listed!
I UNISTALLED previous installation of BlackBerry Desktop Software, including user settings.
Downloaded and installed the installation file for BlackBerry Desktop Software version 4.7, “470_b050_english.exe”, but with same result. Uninstalled it, too.
As suggest elsewhere in this forum, I made directory as follows: C:\INSTALL\Blackberry
Then extracted the downloaded installation file for BlackBerry Desktop Software version 4.7, “470_b050_english.exe”, into it.
Then started installation by clicking on “BlackBerrySetup.exe”.
However, the result is the same, as described above. BlackBerry Desktop Software installs but then fails to open.
Any help would be appreciated. I would like to make this software work.
    Is there alternative software available?

  • Plugin installer won't start.

I got an applet which when loaded on systems without the version 1.5 of the pluging it will prompt the user to download the latest version. It works find in 18 out of 20 computers. The last 2 are laptops and the installer won't start and the applet won't appear.
    Anyone know why?

    Tim,
I encountered the same problem. Are you installing on a server with
a Pentium 4? If so, the problem is with the Pentium 4.
I found the workaround posted on Intel's website. Check this url:
    http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/9011824413236561-prd24.htm
The work around is that the Oracle installer uses a program called symcjit.dll and this program does not properly function on a Pentium 4. Here is Intel's workaround:
If you are installing into Windows* 2000, one workaround recommendation by Oracle for this problem is:
    1. Be sure that you have installed the latest Windows 2000 Service Packs.
    2. Create a temporary directory on your Intel Pentium4 processor server (e.g. \TEMP).
    3. Copy the contents of the Oracle Server CD to the temp directory created in step 2.
    4. Search the directory structure created in step 2 for the existence of the filename SYMCJIT.DLL.
    5. Rename each copy of the SYMCJIT.DLL to SYMCJIT.OLD.
    6. Run the SETUP.EXE from the \TEMP\install\win32 directory and install Oracle 8.1.x.
    I hope this helps

  • Blackberry Desktop Software Installation Problem

I had a problem with Roxio Media Manager continuously wanting to reinstall.  So I fixed that problem and and uninstalled the Blackberry software. I then tried to re-install the Blackberry Desktop software so I can syncronize my contacts on my home computer.  I have tried this from a downloaded version 4.6 and with the version on my Blackberry CD.  Same problem with both.
The install starts and asks for language, then the install starts for a couple of seconds.  Then I get this message:
Error opening installation log file.  Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable.
I can't get past this message.  It does not say where the log file location is.  Other software installs, it is only Blackberry software that will not install.  I tried renaming CProgram Files\Common files\Installshield and making it read/write, but this install still fails with the same message.
Any ideas to try?  Anywhere else that I can go for help?

    Thanks, that worked.
I unzipped the file, then I opened a cmd window and manually ran msiexec with your Blackberry msi file.  I added a /L flag to put the logfile into a local logfile.txt file and everything went fine.
Perhaps you are specifying a problematic log file name, at least for my computer?
Anyway, this new version of Blackberry software works fine for keeping my home contacts up-to-date with my work contacts.  I'm glad I was able to install it without the Roxio media manager.  That program was driving me crazy.

  • Not enough virtual memory to run applications after Blackberry Desktop software installation

    Hi,
I've an issue with Blackberry Desktop Software application, after installing it (versions 4.7) my laptops cannot open more applications after certain time, even you cannot open the Start menu or any other kind of window, it just shows a little box as it is trying to show the windows but does not have enough resources to complete the drawing; I have to close some windows to open another, I mean I can have opened only a certain numbers of applications.
I uninstalled the BBDS and I've the problem still, the only way to solve it, was formatting my laptop, after a time I though 5.0 version could has resolved this issue, so I installed it with my fresh laptop and happened the same behavior, in this moment the BBDS has uninstalled 3 months and the have problem yet.
I think the installation modify some windows registry that in some way disallow to free up memory, or does not inform to window there is enough memory ro tun another applications.
I noticed when increasing the Virtual memory I can have more applicationes opened but it is few.
    I really apreciate any suggestion,
    Thanks,
    Model: Lenovo T60
    RAM: 1GB RAM
Windows XP SP3 (it has latest available patches)
Virtual Memory configured from 1.5Gb to 3GB

the shortcut startup is the thing that adds (or not) the shortcut in the Startup menu, but the Desktop Manager starting at Windows start is stored in the registry.
I didn't bother to do all that, there is a clear option when you install the desktop manager that asks for automatic startup & automatic upgrade. I don't remember at which point (it's a shame, because I installed it less than 3 weeks ago and have already forgotten ! not eating enough fish), but it's there.
besides, I believe you can untick the option later, maybe in the Device Manager that is next to the windows clock.

  • Desktop Software installation

I have a Blackberry 8330 and have been trying to install the Desktop Software for sometime, but all I get is a dialog box titled Windows Installer and the only button available is "OK". Nothing installs at all.  I've tried installing it from the CD and downloading it from the website with the same results. How do I get it to install on my computer?  I'm running Windows XP.
    Thank you

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) If installed, remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.

  • Blackberry desktop software installer forcing into various other applications.

I have never had a Blackberry but this program/virus is on my computer and has been making my life rather difficult. Every time a run program on my computer this pop-up comes up. "Blackberry Desktop Software 6.1.....The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.......Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Blackberry Desktop Software.msi' in the box below." This pop-up open along with everything i open on my computer. I usually just close it every time. Idk why this virus is on my computer but it needs to go. It is not an installed program on my computer. It's not even in regestry editor. But it persists in being present with everything I do.

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard - Remote Desktop Management service won't start

Dear colleges, I'm seeking your help in resolving a weird issue with Remote Desktop.
The Remote Desktop Management service gives the following error message any  time it is attempted to start:
"The Remote Management Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
The Event Viewer error message is as follows:
"The Remote Desktop Management service failed to start. Error code: 0x88250001"
Whenever I connect to the server with RD I get error message that the Remote Desktop Licensing Server isn't configured and that the RD trill will expire in N-days. The server is up to date updates wise and has been licensed for 5 RD CALs. The server hosts DNS
server and has AD DS role installed, is virtualized to have one Hyper-V server.
I read some blogs about having both DNS and AD DS on one box is a bad sea and a root cause of the issue. Well, that very well may be, but for me that's an option as I'm not going to get a box to just host DNS. There should a solution to this as I shouldn't
only one suffering from this issue.
I also read about KB2871777 - Servicing stack update supposedly addressign this issue. Well, it's on my system and the issue is there too. :)
Will I loose ability to RD when the trial expires or it's just another misleading MS message that can be ignored?
How do I mend Remote Desktop Management service to start?
    Appreciate your help!

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server forum.
Can administrators perfectly connect to RDS environment?
In meantime please check that you have properly configured and activated RD License role service and install RDS CAL on it. It might also possible that you have configured RD License server but it server can’t find it and giving you error due to certificate
also. Please check that you have properly configured certificate on your RDS Server. Try to install and update below hotfix for License related issue.
No RDS license when you connect to an RDS farm in Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2916846
If you have configured both RDS and AD DS on single server then also you may find some error reading this. If so please try to setup both roles on different server and check the result. In addition to this, please check below articles.

  • PSE 13 installer won't start

I have purchased Photoshop Elements 13 and downloaded it to my mac, but the installer won't open automatically and it's not possible to open it manually. What should I do?

    Tim,
I encountered the same problem.

  • Desktop Software 6 won't recognize paired Bold 9700 via Bluetooth

I use a Blackberry Bold 9700 and want to get Desktop Software 6 to connect to the phone via Buetooth (USB is not a problem).
I have been through KB04132 (How to set up Bluetooth Connectivity between a Blackberry smartphone and Desktop Manager). All the required Services are activated on the Device and the Device is successfully paired. (I am using a Windows 7 notebook with the notebook and device software fully updated).
Following KB04132, in "Blackberry Device Manager"//"Add Bluetooth Device"//"Select the device you wish to add", the Device is found and listed but I notice it is listed by the device name "Owens Blackberry" and a series of pairs of numbers separated by colons and enclosed by brackets): it does not list the PIN number as KB04132 indicates it should.  Then when I click OK the device is not added to the Bluetooth devices list in the Bluetooth Configuration box - the box is empty. Selecting Add again, the device is found again but clicking "OK", again it is not added to the listing.
Has anyone successfully got Desktop Software 6 to connect to a Blackberry Bold 9700 using Bluetooth? What am I doing wrong here?
    Cheers,
    Owen

  • Adobe Flash 16 Installation Won't Start at All

I am unable to install Adobe Flash onto a Win 7 computer, 64 bit.  I downloaded install_flashplayer16x32_mssd_aaa_aih.exe and tried to execute it.  It is listed in the Task Manager; but, nothing happens.  It does not even begin to run the installation wizard.  I tried to install it in Safe Mode.  I ran it as administrator.  I ran it without any browsers running.  I got the same result in every case.  It just shows in Task Manager and nothing else happens.
I installed and ran the latest version of MicrosoftFixit.  I ran it a few times, selecting the option for trouble with installing a program in some cases and uninstalling a program in other cases.  In every case, the list of programs found does not include Adobe Flash, Shockwave Flash, or Flash.
Between Fixit and Adobe's tool to detect if the program is installed, neither provided evidence that it was already installed; so, it doesn't appear to be an issue with remnants of a previously installed version that didn't get uninstalled correctly.
The file name suggests this is for a 32 bit version of the program.  Should a 64 bit version of the program have been downloaded?  I didn't have an option to select a 32 vs 64 bit program.  The web site indicated that it knew the computer is running a 64 bit version of Windows 7; but, the install button still downloaded this file.
Any assistance you can provide will be appreciated.

Same issue here. Got pop up alert that needed to update Flash which had been fine. Tried both run/automatic install in IE11 and downloaded the same offline file as you. The installer window pops up but nothing ever starts. Was able to install successfully on 4 other computers all running Win7 Ultimate and no difference with this one. Been following other leads and have deleted all old Adobe flash and Macromedia files/folders and pretty much scrubbed all evidence that flash was not on here, Have run Malware, Spyware and AV software so the system is all clean, and this is still all I get.
Task manager does show it there also, but after it gets to this far, it does not process anymore
When I get tired of waiting on it, since it won't close by the red "X", I have to end it via Task Manager, and then it takes me to a non-existent web page { http://www.{completionpageurl}.com/?exitcode=-1 }.
Flash has been working great on this PC a couple years and updated regularly, so have no clue to issue now.
