Desktop Software no longer working

I have been using the Desktop Software 7.1 for sometime and now it doesnt work any longer.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the Device Manager and the Desktop Software numerous times.  I can launch the Desktop Software but it just sits at a black screen and does nothing else.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I suggest this thread:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Good luck!

  • BB Desktop Manager no longer works with Mac Maverick - Need Help Urgently

I have been a loyal Blackberry user since the Government of Canada officially began using these cell phones. I feel, however, abandoned by Blackberry (they obviously don't believe that it is easier to retain an existing customer than acquire a new one). I'm using a Blackberry Bold (9900) with a Macbook Pro. Everything was fine until I upgraded my Mac operating system to Maverick; my Blackberry Desktop Manager no longer works, so I cannot sync the content (contacts, calendar) of my phone with my Mac, but that's not the worst of it.
I recently had a momentary lapse and exceeded the 10 password attempts to access my phone... this accidentally wiped my phone clean... and because Desktop Manager does not work with Mac, I do not have a way to recover my data. Rogers was of no help and had Blackberry updated its desktop software months ago, as it should have, this issue would have been moot. I do not know how or why, but I was able to recover most of my data, but I'm not sure just how up-to-date tha data is and am still going through it, but I'm having issues with some functionality.
I'm in the US for several months and have suspended my Canadian services. Prior to the wipe, I was able to use wifi on my phone to send and receive emails with no problem.  After the wipe, I can't send emails or bbms.  I checked my blackberry internet service and all email accounts are good to go. BBMs are another issue.  I need help.  Suggestions please.

Apple has ceased synchronization with Mavericks. The issue lies with Apple, not with the desktop software. To mitigate the lack of sync capabilities in Mavericks you can sync your contacts and calender on your Mac with the usual suspects (Yahoo, Google). Create a backup (archive) for Contacts and Calender on your Mac first, then create one of those email accouonts that allow syncing. On your 9900 and with BlackBerry provisioning enabled create the new or existing email account. See which email accounts can sync with BB, I know Yahoo is working fine. For Yahoo, get the Yahoo Calender sync (a few bucks one-off payment required), Contacts sync works off the shelf within BB. If you reset the 9900 you should be able to restore all data with BB DTM. Please note that emails you received during the 9900 reset and the date of restore will not be available on the device. You will still not be able to sync contacts/calender over BB DTM. I hope that helps.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software 6.1.0.35 fails to launch with "BlackBerry Desktop Software has stopped working"

    OS: Windows 7 32bit
    BB Desktop Manager version: 6.1.0.35
I bought a new notebook a few days ago and tried to install the above software (latest version) from Blackberry's website. The whole thing installed fine but when I tried to launch it after installation, I get the message:
"BlackBerry Desktop Software has stopped working"
I tried the clean uninstall with removal of folders and registry entries, rebooting it, running regsvr32 atl.dll and then reinstalling it and still I have the same problem.
I had experienced a similar issue with my previous computer which I fixed by changing the permission and ownership of two registry keys "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion". But this time round, I found that:
    1) There is no "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion"
    2) I can't find a  "Desktop.log" in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop" but I did find it in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Logs"
    And this what it says:

I have scanned through it and I can't find anything that says "fatal".
Any suggestions? I am at my wits end after combing through this forum and other BB forums for the past few long days and nights.
    HELP!

    Well folks. I've had enough.
The 9780 is a great phone, it's easy to use, practical and dependable. However, the Desktop Manager software has been giving me too many sleepless nights. On two occassions I must add: once at the end of last year when I bought it and only managed to solve it by myself after 4 weeks of trawling through online forums, blogs and other BB help sites and the recent one was last week when I tried to install it on my new Windows 7 notebook.
I know this is not entirely the fault of RIM, Microsoft also has a part to play. But considering the state of technology these days, it shouldn't have to be so difficult. I want a phone and software that makes my life easier and not have to be a slave to it by trying days and nights to solve its problems.
Hence, I have officially decom my phone and gotten an iPhone 4 instead. The switch ain't that difficult for me as I have always been platform neutral. As long it fits my needs, does it job well and doesn't give me too much headache, I'm cool with it.
    Ciao folks!

  • The Blackberry Desktop Software Does not work it 'freezes'

I have on my laptop the Blackberry Desktop Software, which has being working fine for a long time, but suddenly it 'freezes' nothing is working. I have un-installed it, run Ccleaner to clean up registries, re-installed it again and the same thing happens IT "FREEZES" don't know the reason??? Need help because I always do my backups on my BB.
    Blackberry Desktop Software characteristics:
    Version 6.0.2.42

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please review the System Requirements for the RIM Desktop Software:
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop/desktop-pc/system-requirements.html
As you see, with XP, SP3 has been required for quite some time...so none of the more recent Desktop Software versions will work for you. But, those System Requirements pages are kind of messed up right now (three tabs claiming to be for "6.0.1", but with different information on each).
If you cannot obtain SP3, then you will need to fall back to older and older versions of the Desktop Software until you find one that works under SP2. Old versions can be found here:

    Good luck!

  • Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop...

I have a Tour 9630 and just installed v6.0 and receiving an error window "Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working. A problem as caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  I have not received any message from Windows after 2 days.  Has anyone experienced this problem?  If so, I would appreciate any guidance.  I have Windows 7, if that matters. Thank you. in advance.

    Hi somewhatstock
How far did you get with them? Did they have any ideas what might be causing the problem? Trying to work on it myself, so trying to eliminate what others might have tried. Curious why it works on my Desktop however. Losing tethering really causes problems as I rely on tethering with my laptop quite a lot.
    Any information most welcome,
    regards,
    John

  • I have upgraded to Mountain Lion and have found that some of my software no longer works, notably Image Browser and also the Epson Scanner Perfection 3490 software. Is there a 'patch' or way to allow me to use these programmes especially the scanner.

I have upgraded to Mountain Lion and have found that some of my software no longer works, notably Image Browser and also the Epson Scanner Perfection 3490 software. Is there a 'patch' or way to allow me to use these programmes especially the scanner.

Apple discontinued support for PowerPC apps with Lion, I think, so you're out of luck there. No patch coming, unfortunately. Best to upgrade whatever old applications you have or, since it seems like you're using some relatively old software, scout around for replacements that give you the functionality you need.
Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Print & Scan and select your scanner from the list--if it's not there you'll need to add it (start with the little plus icon). Once you have it in the list you can click on the Open Scanner button and a pretty barebones scanner driver will load for you. But Image Capture (as mentioned previously), found in your Applications folder, will probably do the job as adequately, or better, than your old scanner software.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working

Blackberry Torch 9850 on the Verizon Wireless Network
    Blackberry OS: 7.1 Bundle 1737 (v 7.1.0.580, Platform 5.1.0.429)
Windows 7 Home Premium, SP11 with an full admin account
    HP Desktop computer
For some unknown reason whenever I attempt to execute Blackberry Desktop Software version 7.1 the application returns the following error: "Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working: A problem caused the program and notify you if a solution is available." The last successful use of DM was on Sunday, October 7, 2012 when I synched my phone and did a backup of the device.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the application; uninstalled Microsoft .Net Framework version 3.5 and 4.0 then re-installed .Net Framework; then re-installed DM under a new admin account and still getting the same problem. I even went as far as uninstalling Office and re-installing office and still getting the same problem. Whenever I uninstalled DM I did a manual uninstall where I removed all registry keys associated with Research in Motion including folders and still getting the same problem. I Googled the error and the articles worth reading I have already the things they mentioned.
NOTE: I have done a lot more troubleshooting that is listed. But since I did so much to get this to work it will take me an entire novel to list all the things I have done to get this app to work again.
Called VZW and they got me in contact with RIM. RIM did pretty much the same things I did and after spending 7 hours on the phone with them they concluded I need to reformat my drive. When the tech made that suggested I wanted to reach thru the phone and knock her teach out of her mouth. Suffice to say I am not able to get DM to work on my machine and there appears to be no apparent reason why the software will stop working. Not have DM work means I cannot synch my phone. I have one personal computer and I am not going to install DM on my laptop because it will do me no good since I need to synch it with Outlook which is on my personal desktop. I cannot install my personal copy of office on my work laptop because it will probably cause other issues.
Anyone have any suggestions how I can get this application working on my desktop. It was working before and all of a sudden it stopped  working

  • Blackberry Desktop Software Error "Blackberry Desktop Software Has Stopped Working"

    Hi everyone,
I’ve had a Blackberry Playbook (PB) for almost a year now. Recently I decided I was going to back my data up, but the Blackberry desktop software I was using was 5.0... Something. So I went to http://uk.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html to update the software. I uninstalled the old one and installed the new one.
When I tried to open the newly installed software I got this error "Blackberry Desktop Software Has Stopped Working." So I did my research and found that this was happening to other people.
These are the methods I used to try to fix the problem.
    - Clean Uninstall
    - Removing registry
    - Deleting research in motion (appdata)
    - Restarting my computer about 5 times
I went into event properties this is what i got.

  • BB Desktop Software has stopped working (V6.1.0)

My BlackBerry Desktop Software has stopped working.
    My Devise: BB Torch 9800
    OS: Win 7
Issus: When I connect my BB or double click on BB Desktop icon - it open the BB Desktop Software and closes instantly with an message "BB Desktop Software has stopped working. Windows is checking if a solution is available. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have uninstalled and installed BB Desktop Software but still I get this message. I am unable to sync and use the desktop software.
I have called my carrier and they couldnt help me and mentioned it is a problem with my PC. But I dont think so as this was working all these days  and now suddenly I am getting this error. I dont remember but I might have updated the BB Desktop Sofware to 6.1.0 version.
    Please help.

    I may have fixed this...
I totally removed desktop software (again) and - for the record - removed ALL user settings (If I couldn't get this working I was gunna call in my upgrade to another brand anyway )
I then re-installed BB Desktop - again for the record - from build 34, (610_b034_multilanguage.exe) which I happened to have in my download directory still (this might work with b038 though to be fair).
I then re-installed it, as I have done like 10 times, BUT this time, I changed the install directory to "c:\program files" instead of the default - on widnwos 7 64 bit - which is "c:\program files (x86)"
by putting it here, you get round some sticky windows issues, including UAC **bleep**. I than ran it, and low and behold it detected and synced and loved my Bold  9700 all over again!
Maybe I will get that BB 9900 (or torch 9810) after all I can feel my new music flooding onto my memory card as I type

  • Desktop Sync No Longer Works

Thank you for reading and for any input you are willing to offer.
I have Windows 7 Professional. My Outlook profile is saved on an Exchange server and my Blackberry had previously beeng syncing with Outlook in this setup for nearly a year without issue.
Recently, the desktop software freezes at "Action engine loading configuration" message and is unrecoverable. I have tried the following things to rectify the situation:
    1) Adjust the organizer settings not to sync anything except the date & time. Still happens
    2) Delete all data from the device using Desktop Software and try to resync. Same problem
    3) Uninstall and reinstall Blackberry Desktop Software and try to sync with both the original set of data and the empty, deleted data Blackberry. Same problem.
    4) Tried wiping the blackberry completely using JL Cmdr, reinstalling the OS. In this scenario I can sync Addresses but once I sync Calendar the problems happens again and I am unable to ever sync it again (Including thereafter when de-selecting the Calendar option.
At this point I have spent hours scouring Google for help and trying the above items. This has been disastrous for me as I rely on the sync'd data for work and have already starting missing things.
I don't believe there is anything wrong with the Blackberry, as it works fine and works perfectly well after re-loading a fresh, OS, etc.
I have tried playing with the support logs but because the software freezes before calendar can sync, nothing is in the log that states if there is a corrupt record in calender causing this. Nothing dramatically changes in my calendar between the day that syncing worked and the day it didnt.
I've tried searching the Blackberry forums and have found some info but nothing helpful. RIM does not provide support telephone numbers and AT&T support has continuously demonstrated itself as worthless over my time with them.
Is there any resources left at all that I could try to get past this issue, not waste any more time, and be able to resolve the issue?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Though nobody helped me with this I was able to help myself I am putting the steps that I followed down here so that if anyone arrives on this page from our friend at Google they will be able to try the same thing:
I ran "Repair" on the memory card from within the Blackberry
Ran CCleaner on my PC to clean the registry
Reset Sync Settings within Desktop Manager
Finally at long last I am syncing again!

  • Desktop software no longer recognizes 9630

I recently updated my sprint 9630 to v. 5.0.0.1030 (bundle 1675, platform 4.2.0.451). My desktop manager no longer recognizes the phone when I plug it in. My laptop rcognizes that the phone is plugged and it is charging the phone as well, but the software doesn't work. It keeps telling me that it is disconnected. When I run update for the desktop software it says I have the latest version installed. It still shows that my device software version is 5.0.0.983. I have turned off my firewall temporarily, rebooted the laptop, did a battery pull on the phone and nothing works. It still does not recognize the phone. What do i need to do to fix this?

I am having the same problem with my 9630 and laptop. HELP!!!!

  • Remote Desktop Connection no longer working

Hi, I really hope someone can please help me.   I just switched from Comcast to FIOS and I can no longer remote desktop to work - so I'm not getting paid until I can get it fixed.
The way that I was doing it before was to connect with a regular Microsoft VPN (I have Windows XP Professional), and then I would use Remote Desktop Connection to log into the work PC.  Since I switched to FIOS it no longer works on either my laptop with wireless or my desktop which is connected to the router.
The VPN seems to be connecting OK; it says it is and it is sending/receiving a small bit of data.  But when I open the the RDC and try to connect using the PC name it says that the computer cannot be found.  I tried to connect to the IP address of it (after connecting through the VPN) and then it says it's found but cannot connect.
There is another location to which I log in using a Cisco VPN and then Remote Desktop - that still works just fine.  Nothing at work has changed; everyone else can log in with no problems, including everyone else with FIOS.
I honestly have no ideas at all; this is not my area of expertise to say the least.  If anyone could help I would REALLY appreciate it!
    Thanks much!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It is a new Actiontec router.
I finally got it resolved; one of my coworkers suggested checking to make sure that the IP addresses were not in conflict, and they were.  So, if anyone else has this problem, what happened was that the new router was assigning IP addresses to my PC's at home in the 192.168.1.x range, which was also the server at work's IP address.
So the really dumbed down version (for people like me!) is to open a command prompt on your desktop, run ipconfig /all, and then it will tell you your internal IP address.  (I was getting thrown off because the ROUTER'S IP address, which is the one you can look up online, was different).  If the PC's IP is almost the same as the server IP address, then you have to change the IP range on your router to something like 192.168.114.x.  There's directions if you google the router specs; I had to change it in three places on the router software; the router IP, the begin range and the end range.
Thank you, jumpin68ny, for starting to help me.  Hopefully now this may help someone else!

  • Remote Desktop Connection no longer works.

After verifying that all Remote Desktop Connection settings and firewall settings match the requirements, I cannot connect to the host computer running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center from a client computer running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 over my
home (private) network. I was previously able to connect these same two computers when the host computer was running Windows XP Pro, but now that I have upgraded its operating system to Win 8.1 Pro the connection no longer works. The Windows Troubleshooter
cannot find the problem. What is wrong?

If you turn off a firewall in a router it is still using NAT which will also act like a firewall. In my experience its better to let your router be the firewall.
On most routers that have an SPI firewall you have to setup 2 rules to allow remote connections. One would be the firewall rule and other would be the port forwarding(NAT) rule.
Are you forwarding the correct ports to your mac from the router? Does your Mac have a fixed IP address?

  • [Solved] KDE Desktop Effects no longer working

    Hello,
I just did an update, (I didn't think it was a major one, I don't recall seeing graphics update, though I'm not sure how to confirm - is there a way to see recently updated packages in yaourt?) and after a brief issue with powertop that was solved by a restart (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=179789 - it may be unrelated though) I found that when I restarted, KWin Crashed, and since then, my desktop effects are not working.
I have gone to the KDE Desktop Effects Settings Menu, and under the advanced menu, set the compositing type back to OpenGL 3.1, clicked apply, and confirmed that I wanted to try it even though it had evidently crashed Kwin. I then received a message stating "21 desktop effects could not be loaded". When I clicked details, a popup window said:
"For technical reasons it is not possible to determine all possible error causes.
Desktop effect system is not running."
For the record, I am on a Thinkpad X201 with intel graphics.
    Any ideas?

    Some Extra information:
I just tried a restart, that didn't work.
I then went back into effect settings, and saw that "enable effects at startup" was not checked. I also saw that under the advanced settings, Qt Graphics system was set to raster. Since I'm not sure which it was supposed to be on originally, but the current configuration wasn't working, I also set that to Native, and then clicked apply. KWin then crashed, here is the output:
    Application: KWin (kwin), signal: Aborted
    Using host libthread_db library "/usr/lib/libthread_db.so.1".
To enable execution of this file add
    add-auto-load-safe-path /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.19-gdb.py
line to your configuration file "/home/perry/.gdbinit".
To completely disable this security protection add
    set auto-load safe-path /
line to your configuration file "/home/perry/.gdbinit".
For more information about this security protection see the
"Auto-loading safe path" section in the GDB manual. E.g., run from the shell:
    info "(gdb)Auto-loading safe path"
