Desktop software version matching device OS version???

Hello and good day,
I am very new to blackberry.  I just got an 8830.  I'm getting ready to download the desktop manager, and was wondering if (since my device's OS is v4.2.2.123), if I have to only download the desktop manager v4.2.... or can I get 4.5, or 4.6?  Also, I downloaded the upgrade to take my device OS to v4.2.2.196 so I can use a full 8gb card.  Any tips on how to install this onto my device (it's just currently on my desktop PC from where I downloaded it)?  Thanks for your time and patience, and have a great day!

There is no relation with device software and desktop manager version. You can download and use the update 4.6 version with your Blackberry.
Check steps below for OS upgrade -
Step #1
Before starting make sure that BlackBerry Desktop Software is installed on the computer.
Step#2
Make sure that you have installed updated device software installed in your PC. Check this link to get update device software from carrier OS download site.
Step#3
Users can perform a full or selective backup of the data using the Backup and Restore tool in BlackBerry Desktop Manager by completing the following steps:
Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Double-click Backup and Restore.
Select Backup to perform a full backup or select Advanced to perform a backup of specific databases.
Choose a location to save the backup file, then click Save.
Step#4
To perform a clean install of the BlackBerry Device Software, perform the following steps:
Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Double-click the Application Loader icon.
Click Next to start the installation process.
Type your BlackBerry smartphone password, if prompted, and click OK.
Click the check boxes next to the names of the applications you want to load, and then click Next.
Click Advanced, and then click the check box beside Erase all currently installed applications.
Click Next.
Click the check box next to Do not automatically backup the application data during the loading process.
Clear the box next to Backup and restore applications installed wirelessly.
Click Next > Finish.
When the process has completed, the message The loading operation was successful will appear. Click Close to return to BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

  • SOLVED: BB Desktop software crashes when device is connected

I had been having a problem where my desktop software crashed whenever I plugged in my Bold 9700 and I figured out a solution so I thought I would share it. FYI I'm using Blackberry Desktop Software v6.0.0.43 on Windows XP SP3.
I found there is a logfile at C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Rim.Desktop.Exception.log and the last entry was:

I had tried uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop software to no avail. Finally I tried deleting the E:\BlackBerry\system\Media Sync\bbMusicSync.settings file from my Blackberry and still it did not work. The solution was that I had to delete the \Media Sync\ folder itself. I reinstalled BB desktop and plugged in my Blackberry and it all ran fine. You will have to set up all your sync settings and whatnot again. I hope this helps someone out.

Thks for your quick reply.  I cannot open any devices or apps in "my comptr" while playbook is plugged in.  The screen greys and Windows stops responding.  I can open "devices & printers" right click on BB cd drive then click on find new drivers. Windows says I already have most current drivers installed.  I have an older laptop running Win XP. with no problems connecting to PB.   My issue seems simular to those addressed in a later post by prochejr.  This appears to be a Win 7 prob.  Log in "trouble shooting" tells me application (BB desktop software) has incompatability issues with computer OS.

  • Desktop Software v4.7: Device Switch Wizard ERROR

    Switching between Blacberry devices; I connect my old Blackberry 8320 and select Start.   It runs through 3 or 4 tasks and when it comes to Searching for Available SoftwareI receive this error message;

I de-selected the software upgrade options and received the same message.
I have tried it with Mass Storage Mode on and off.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Typically, you'd want to do that action just once...to initially get your data over to your BB. After which you'd want to use a different (and compatible) PIM to manage the data on your PC. I'm thinking that perhaps you should do that -- or perhaps, given the error, move your data from your Palm PIM to a compatible PIM:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    And then configure for synchronization:

  • Blackberry Desktop Software version 7 Synchronization Error

I get the following error while synchronizing my Outlook calendar
"CRRecurringl:: SetRecurringDates: Start date is invalid".
I did not have any problems synchronizing prior to upgrading Blackberry Desktop to version 7.

I had the same problem.  This is what I found out and how to fix it.  Tech Support at RIM walked me through it though it took awhile.
From browsing online, it seems this problem occurs when you change from two way sync in the Desktop Software to one way, then change back to two way.  To fix it, you need to first make sure you have all of your information current in Outlook.  Then, go into the Desktop Software and under Device choose Delete Data.  You can then Select Data and choose only Calendar.  After that is done, do another sync, and everything should be okay.

  • Not enough virtual memory to run applications after Blackberry Desktop software installation

    Hi,
I've an issue with Blackberry Desktop Software application, after installing it (versions 4.7) my laptops cannot open more applications after certain time, even you cannot open the Start menu or any other kind of window, it just shows a little box as it is trying to show the windows but does not have enough resources to complete the drawing; I have to close some windows to open another, I mean I can have opened only a certain numbers of applications.
I uninstalled the BBDS and I've the problem still, the only way to solve it, was formatting my laptop, after a time I though 5.0 version could has resolved this issue, so I installed it with my fresh laptop and happened the same behavior, in this moment the BBDS has uninstalled 3 months and the have problem yet.
I think the installation modify some windows registry that in some way disallow to free up memory, or does not inform to window there is enough memory ro tun another applications.
I noticed when increasing the Virtual memory I can have more applicationes opened but it is few.
    I really apreciate any suggestion,
    Thanks,
    Model: Lenovo T60
    RAM: 1GB RAM
Windows XP SP3 (it has latest available patches)
Virtual Memory configured from 1.5Gb to 3GB

the shortcut startup is the thing that adds (or not) the shortcut in the Startup menu, but the Desktop Manager starting at Windows start is stored in the registry.
I didn't bother to do all that, there is a clear option when you install the desktop manager that asks for automatic startup & automatic upgrade. I don't remember at which point (it's a shame, because I installed it less than 3 weeks ago and have already forgotten ! not eating enough fish), but it's there.
besides, I believe you can untick the option later, maybe in the Device Manager that is next to the windows clock.

  • Removing Applications from BlackBerry Desktop Software: After deleting the app the app name still shows in BBDS

    Hello,
I have installed multiple 3-rd party applications on my phone through the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. I am attempting to remove certain applications from the list.
    Here is what I experience:
I click on Applications icon.  BBDS communicates with the phone and then displays a list of native applications. I click on Install/Remove button. A list of third party applications are displayed. I de-select an application and the hit Start. The phone is restarted. I can confirm that the application is removed from my phone, however, the application name is still displayed under Install/Remove applications. I even clicked on the app and highlighted the application but there is no option to remove the app from the list. When I click on Edit the delete option is disabled. My goal is to remove the 3rd party application from the list completely. Please help!

  • Desktop Software 6.0

I just installed the Desktop Manager 6.0 and it seems to be causing problems with my 64 bit XP PC. I get a stop error (blue screen and reboot) about half the time I open it. It doesn't seem to make a difference if I've connected with my Blackberry 8530 or not. Does anyone have an idea as to how to investigate this issue? I've un-installed and reinstalled once and it is still happening.

  • Desktop Software installation won't start

I downloaded version 4.7 Desktop Software w/o media manager for XP SP3.  When I run it, it extracts the file, and the installshield starts up in the lower-right corner of the screen.  When it gets to 100%, it disappears... and then nothing else happens.  No installation screen comes up.  There aren't even any processes running related to the installation.
I also tried opening the self-extracting executable in Winzip and manually extracting it to a separate folder.  I ran "BlackBerrySetup.exe", and exactly the same thing happened.
I tried downloading the Desktop Manager software from Verizon, as well, with the exact same results. (I'm not sure which variation of v4.7 this was, but it was over 300 MB.)
Anyone have any idea of what's going on here?  Thanks for your help!
EDIT: I tried disabling McAfee VirusScan, too, to see if that was conflicting, but it didn't make any difference.
Message Edited by bdr127 on 02-24-2009 12:24 PM

I've got the exact same problem... :'(  I had to flash my phone, and subsequently got an upgrade I'd been longing for... to 6.0. When I upgraded my desktop software to match my new phone upgrade, the software on my laptop JUST WOULDNT start!! The screen stays white. I've tried reinstalling from - the internet, and from -the cd, but it stays the same.    I decided to try a different approach, and connected the phone to my laptop, and now I cannot find my BBMessenger app, or my APPWorld button.    If I could find AppWorld, I'd probably just re-download BBM, but now they're both gone!   ...What do I do? Go back to version 5 on both counts? Does that imply I'd have to flash my phone again?  Just so *frustrated!!

  • Best Order To Install Desktop Software V4.7 With Roxio Media Creator 10

    Hi,
What is the best order in which to install the Desktop software V4.7,  I already have Roxio Media Creator 10 on my desktop so am unsure if its okay to install the Desktop software now or remove Media Creator 10 then install the desktop software and finally reinstall the Media Creator 10 software.
I know that the Desktop Software does contain components of version 9 so I dont want to install it over 10 if this will cause an issue.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    Hi!
There are several versions of the DTM software, including versions that leave out Media Manager and Roxio. You can obtain the version of your choice here:

  • Intermittent Desktop Software launch

    Hello all,
I just started using a BlackBerry with my Mac and so far I'm enjoying the BB Desktop Software - no major sync issues for me.  I have noticed, however, that even though I have it set to automatically launch the desktop software when my device is connected it doesn't work.  I re-installed the software and it was launching when I connected the device.  After a few days it stopped working again.
Does anyone know what could be going on?  Is there a daemon that should be launching on bootup that watches for the BB?  It would be nice if it were something as easy as a corrupt plist.
For the time being I think I'm going to rely on the DTW (do this when) preference pane.
Any suggestions for a fix would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I had the same problem and found a configuration that works.
Change your default service set up:
Go to OPTIONS SET UP -> ADVANCED OPTIONS -> DEFAULT SERVICES -> CHANGE CICAL, SYNC AND CMIME to one of your personal accounts.
That fixed the previuos error I had with my Desktop software 6.1.
Hope that helps. If it does please share with others....

  • Connector specific error - blackberry bold 9790 - desktop software version 6.1 and outlook 2010

    Hi there
I've recently upgraded my business partners' outlook from 2007 to 2010.  In doing so we've had a corrupt profile which we have had to delete and then replace with a new one.  In doing so his outlook started working again but now his blackberry isn't synching the calendar entries.
    Here's the basics:
    - Bberry model - Bold 9790
    - Bberry operating system - Blackberry's latest (7.1 I think)
    - Blackberry desktop software 6.1 - this is intentional as we have found in the newer version of hte desktop software that we cannot map our teamsite calendar from outlook and sync the entries
    - Outlook version 2010
    - Calendars we are trying to sync are a personal one from a pst folder and a teamsite one from sharepoint linked to our microsoft exchange set up.
The error we are getting is a 'connector specific error'
I have worked with him to create the PTtrace.log and tif.log files.  I've gotten reams of pages; but the errors on todays date (when the problem began) have come up with error 4238, 113, and 12.  We have tried un-installing and re-installing 6.1 as well and no luck.  We have re-set the configuration setup and re-mapped folders; chosen the new outlook profile, etc and still keep getting same error.
I'm now starting to think that there is a problem with the mapi profile as a start and wonder if outlook needs to repair itself or whether we are getting the error because of a duplicate entry somewhere (though if you asked me to tell you where from the logs I couldn't identify it).
I'm litterally tearing my hair out because my poor business partner lives and dies by his blackberry.  Really want to try to get this resolved; but need some help and suggestions as I've tried most of the main causes and fixes.
Any assistance would really be appreciated so I can put him and myself out of our misery.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cel

Hi and Welcome to the Community...apologies for the delayed reply...hopefully you already have this resolved, but just in case!
Thank you for the thorough report...that helps tremendously. Sadly, though, none of the errors you listed reveal anything useful when I search the public KBs...perhaps you will be more lucky

Even though it sounds like you may have done all or part of this, I encourage you to research the process in this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Your suspicion about the MAPI Profile may well be warranted, in which case this KB might be useful.

Good luck and let us know!

  • Bold 9700 won't let me sync with Windows 7 computer using BlackBerry Desktop Software version 6

I just got a new computer with Windows 7.  I installed version 6 of BlackBerry Desktop Software.  It installed just fine.  When I connect my Bold 9700 to it the software recognizes the phone and has the list of model, PIN, and phone number.  It allows me to backup the device - but not sync it.
I went to configure my sync settings.  It goes to the screen for me to set the sync options for calendar, memo pad, etc.  I selected calendar.  It asks me which application I'm using and I select Microsoft Outlook (I'm using Outlook 2010).  I choose 2 way sync.  So, up to this point it's working correctly.  But, then when I hit "next" on this screen it gives me an error message - the operation terminated unexpectedly.  I have no clue what's going on.

I have the same problem and have tried one way sync's, deleting and re-entering the calendar entries made around the time the problem started. If it is a corrupted entry, I can't find it.
