Desktop support

Just got my new Z30. Didn't know it only takes a micro sim. Called provider to send me a new SIM - another 5 day wait ontop of 7+ days to have the phone delivered. Phone is made in Mexico, sent to USA then sent to Canada depot, then sent to me I plug new phone into USB on my desktop and BB desktop software (from my Playbook), get message that software doesn't support my new phone and am referred to BB/support online. At that site there is a large ad for BB Passport which I cannot remove (the X/delete button doesn't work, only the button to buy a BB Passport). So I am seeking a link to find the Desktop support page for Z30. Rather frustrating start with my Z30! Am a BB shareholder and this kind of stuff adds to the depression!

  • When are retirement dates for certification MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician on Windows 7 and MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator on Windows 7?

    Hi,
So what's the current situation with the MCIPT certifications in Windows 7?
MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician on Windows 7
MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator on Windows 7
The certifications had previously been scheduled to retire in July 31, 2013.
Then that deadline was extended and they were due to retire in January 31, 2014
Presently, the certifications are listed on the ever unhelpful Microsoft Learning website
    MCITP page and the
    windows certifications
    page.
In typical Microsoft Learning unhelpfulness there is a bland, confusing and uninformative statement saying
"Most MCITP certifications will be retired by July 31, 2014. Please check the
    retired certifications and
retired exams pages for specific retirement dates."
Naturally, Microsoft aren't being specific about which MCITP certifications are being retired.
To be more obstructive and confusing, us poor learners are invited to check the retired certifications page, which only lists certifications that have already retired,  for information about when a certification
will retire in the future. I have seen this done repeatedly in this forum and on borntolearn.mslearn.net in reply to questions about future certificate retirement, which is totally useless and perhaps deliberately deceptive, as the exam aren't
being discontinued and there's no info about future certification retirement.
There has previously been actual helpful information on the Microsoft learning webpages with statements explaining that whilst in a transistion between the older style MCITP and newer MCSA certification for Windows 7, that both certification titles will
be awarded until x date, when the MCITP will be retired and the MCSA will be awarded only. I can't see anything like that on the site at the moment.
    I'd be most grateful if
anyone can link me to a Microsoft press release / blog / webpage that announced the scrapping of the January 31, 2014 deadline (as I must of missed this announcement)
anyone can give an update on the current Microsoft thinking about when this certificate will retire? Especially any links to announcements.
are both MCSA and MCITP certifications still being awarded?
advise what's the best way of staying up to date with multiple changes to exam and certification retirement announcement? (apart from borntolearn, which is awful and again, just directs back to the retired exams/certifications pages)
    Many thanks everybody!
    edit: formatting and spelling

Why choose a near retiring credential ?
    * Have ever you applied for a job with keyword requirements ?  Employers can be (and have been) insanely specific. (Then again that sort of gatekeeping for employment usually guarantees a fresh batch of pathological liars are your applicants, but I digress.)
    * Also could be on a time deadline, e.g. contract bid requires x number of people to be certified, CompTIA requirement deadline could be arriving, and so on.
    * Taking 2K08 exams when working in a 2K08 environment is probably easier than jumping into the next version without any access to it (other than building your own virtual servers or labs).
My current employer uses 2K08 not 2K12.  There are also 2K03 servers still in production (eventually being phased out).
I don't know what the stats are today but (in 2012) 2K08 was leading over 2k12 in market share.
I thought that's what truly drives these exams' and certification's availability.

  • Question about Delegate Control to Desktop Support

I am working on delegating control to a newly formed/reclassified position in my company. This role will primarily provide Desktop Support. They will have little to no need to log into servers.
I have already gave them admin rights to the end users machines, now I just need to grant them the proper rights in ADUC/Exchange so they can properly perform their role.
Here is what they will need to do:
User account lifecycle management (Create, change, delete, change password, etc)
Computer account lifecycle management (Create, change, delete)
Security & Distribution Group membership management (Create, change, delete)
Exchange mailbox creation (Exchange Recipient Administrators)
    Run RSOP for GPO
Basically, I want them to have full control over user, computer and group objects. This way they can create users, change group memberships,  add computers to domain, delete computer objects, etc.
The problem I am having, I am not sure what rights I need to grant them via the delegate control wizard to accomplish all of that. I know I could just grant them "Full Control" of the OU structure containing all of our user, computer and group
objects, but would like to avoid that unless its really what I need to do in the end.
    Any assistance would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

I would not recommend providing Full control over user, computer and group objects. Provide permission based on the tasks that they need to perform. The following articles

  • Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

While I agree with the direction of the suggestions with installing packages for X-windows, we do not have a blanket 'apply any package' recommendation.
In particular we do not support altering the kernel (although we do have exceptions which we review on a case by case basis).
Basically, if the you want to alter functionality that would not impact core functionality you are usually fine.
A good guideling is : The more dependencies that there are between the package / rpm you are considering using the higher the potential impact on functionality - meaning higher chance for problems
Note: We do use VNC including Real and Tiger regularly , but we have no hard recommendation on how you may want to use X-windows. I have never seen a limitation other than comments on bugs
or incompatibility within the X-window product itself with certain kernel levels.
Patching may overwrite some packages that you may install, however,  _depending on packages/rpms added_ there is also the possibility that you will break existing functionality to the point
that patching itself will fail ( we have already seen a few cases of this in which case the proper mitigation is to remove / roll-back any alterations to the ODA before patching, and then adding the packages/rpms
back after the patching is completed.
From what you are discussing the impact should be low without conflicts, but please consider the above, and if you have specific packages which you consider potential problems
please create an SR so that we can review packages / rpms on an individual basis.
Once again: the main criteria for not supporting rpms is regarding the kernel itself

  • Most important documentations for desktop support role.

I'd suggest that amongst many others, you need a network map, indicating how your landscape is put together. It's also worth having a patching diagram in each rack / cabinet for that location. You need to have full details on each server; especially all physical servers. It's worth detailing what services, applications, roles each server (including VMs) are hosting; along with information on any specific configuration requirements. Think of what you would need if you had to rebuild that server completely from scratch.I used to have a number of work check lists; things that would be required when performing certain tasks. These would detail the steps involved, what would be required to perform a check, and highlight any specific requirements or warnings (e.g. don't re-boot unless serviceY has been stopped first as otherwise it might take...

    Hi guys!
I have joined a company newly and also just starting my career. My company barely has  documentation for tasks and troubleshooting issues and i have been working on creating them lately. I would like to know what are the best and most required documentations for a desktop support or IT support role. e.g New system installations, Configuration documents for basic tasks,.....e.t.c.
    Please share your knowledge.....

  • Helpdesk/desktop support Cert help.

    Hello all.
So recently I enrolled in a online Tafe course that will give me a cert 3 in information technology, I have been a computer user/lover for many years and have built them for friends including myself (fairly standard I know). I really want to give IT a go,
I am a fairly advanced user and wherever I work I seem to become the free IT guy, so when I found myself between jobs I decided that now is a great time to go for it.
Apart from the course that will give me a good foundation I wanted a better picture of getting my certifications. I am wanting to purse a job in helpdesk/ desktop support as I know it is a great place to start.
With entry level in mind what would be a good place to start for certification? After researching jobs most level 1 desktop techs ask for knowledge in xp/7, office and/or server 2008, basic networking, installation etc.
Just not sure the best way to go about it. I did find a course online that offers a package but to be honest with the help of some books I could teach myself.
    Thanks for any help.
Edit: Decided to add the link to the package deal... I know I can teach myself but it does set up testing and does supply all the learning material. Not sure what is the best way to go about it.

    Hi, Jimmy.
Microsoft offers two (2) levels of certifications. They offer MTA exams for students just out of school or for those who are new to working in the field and are new to certifications. They also offer MCSA/MCSE certifications for working professionals.
The MTA certifications have less value in the employment marketplace than MCSA/MCSE certifications. You can pursue an MTA certification if you'd like or jump right to the MCSA/MCSE titles.
You can learn more about the MTA Infrastructure titles here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mta-certification.aspx
Alternately, you may want to pursue an MCSA certification for Windows 7 or Windows 8. The newer the OS version, the longer your title will hold value in the marketplace.
Here are the two MCSA titles:
    https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-windows-7-certification.aspx
    https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-windows-8-certification.aspx
When you open either of these links, they will tell you exactly which exams you need to pass to earn the certifications.
These MCSA titles are what are used by desktop support specialists.
After earning your MCSA, you can decide if you'd like to pursue an MCSE.
    Good luck!
    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson

  • Can somebody recommend a remote desktop support solution?

I am looking for a remote desktop solution to support our remote office(s) Mac systems.  Apple Remote Desktop is not an option.  All versions of VNC that we have tried will not work with Mac Lion.  Bomgar has been ruled out because of finances.
    Anybody have other suggestions?

Normally I would suggest TeamViewer.com, but you are talking a commercial situation which should be paid for, and you mentioned financial issues.
I do not understand the VNC not working, as I've used Screen Sharing (just Apple wrapped VNC) both to and from Lion to other Macs.
Can you please describe the configuration information
What VNC clients? (Mac OS X Screen Sharing, Chicken (or Chicken of the VNC), JollysFastVNC, TightVNC, UltraVNC, RealVNC, other...)
What VNC server?  (Screen Sharing, Remote Desktop, Vine Server, other...)
What computer is trying to connect to the remote offices?  Is it a Mac or other
What operating system version (is this the Lion system?)
What is the office Mac?  Is that the Lion system?
What do you have as a router at work?
Can you configure your work router to allow VNC ports 5900, 5901, 5902, ... through your router and vector the different port numbers to specific Office Macs?  <http://portforward.com>
Have you tried Mac OS X Screen Sharing?  On the Office Mac you enable System Preferences -> Sharing -> Screen Sharing (optionally, you can enable a VNC password for non-Mac clients).  On the Mac client, you use Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> vnc://address.of.office.router:5903 which would connect to port 5903 on the office router which you would have previously port forwarded to a specific office Mac.
If you are in the office, then you should see the Mac via bonjour in your Finder side-bar or via Finder -> Go -> Connector to server -> Browser
    Anyway
No-IP.com or DynDNS.org can provide a dynamic DNS name to make finding your office router easier.

  • Discoverer Desktop Support

Does anybody know if Oracle will contunue to support discoverer desktop in 10.1.2.3 and beyond or will it be replaced by Plus?

    Hi
For the foreseeable future Desktop will be here. It is part of the Tools install along with Administrator. Even in Discoverer 11g there will be a Desktop tool because you use the same 10.1.2.3 toolset and the EUL does not change. Later on I can see the day that Desktop is dropped but we have been discussing this for a long time, even before 10g came out, and it is still available. What you will notice though is that Desktop has not been enhanced as Plus has been.
Therefore, perhaps a better question should be: "Should I continue using Desktop now that Plus is available?"
My answer here is 100% NO. You should not continue working with Desktop now that Plus is available. Plus is such a better tool with many additional capabilities. A couple of years ago I won the prize for best paper at the ODTUG 2005 conference for my presentation on what is new in Plus. That paper is available for free from my downloads page here: http://ascbi.com/downloads.htm The paper is called DRAKEFIRSTLOOK and you will find it about two thirds of the way down the page.
Here's another little tip that many people are not aware of. Let's say you have got 25 users using Desktop today. Your investment in licenses is at least $25,000 which you will be concerned about losing should you convert to Plus. I can tell you from experience that most Oracle sales reps will let you apply the vast majority of that cost against an application server license. It's just not an option that is widely discussed. You will of course have to pay maintenance and support on the new version but if you work the discussion right you can get licenses cheaper than you thought, which will then bring you up onto the latest version complete with its frequent release of cumulative patches.
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Cisco supervisor Desktop support for Windows 7

We are getting ready to rollout Windows 7. We ran into a problem while testing Historical Reports and Cisco supervisor Desktop on Windows 7. Historical Reports installs just fine while CSD give us an error that the operating system is not supported by Cisco. Is there a current version that supports Windows 7?
    Our IPCC version is:
    Cisco Application Administration - 7.0(1)SR05_Build504
    Package: Cisco Unified CCX Enhanced
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Yefim

Yes, you are wandering down a long and lonely road.
Repackaging an install package from an .exe (which could be one of a million types of installer, such as InstallShield) to an MSI isn't a trivial task - it's a fairly specialist piece of work.
You can only open MSIs with Orca, it doesn't support other types of install package.
I would suggest if you have a workable solution with ThinApp you'd be best to leave it there...

  • Extended Desktop Support

I am thinking of installing Mac OS 10.6.3 On my iMac(intel). I a trying to verify that extened desktop is supported.
Do I need something like Screen Spanning doctor?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Ed

Extended Desk top is supported by OS X.
In fact, I have had a 21.5" LG connected to my 17 Early Core Duo for Years using a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI cable.
Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.)
For smaller/older Monitor's an analog VGA connection will work fine, whereas a digital DVI connection supports higher resolutions and quality.
