  • DVD Player crashing leopard

    Hi everyone.
I've been having huge problems with DVD's on my powerbook
Whenever i put a dvd in the drive, dvd player starts, and just as the disk starts to spool up and start playing the movie, the beach ball of death starts spinning and the computer freezes completely. I've tried several disks and the same happens everytime. It only started happening after I installed the 10.5.2 update, could this have something to do with it?
    Any help much appreciated
    Cheers, Dave.

What happens when you insert a non-video DVD, such as the Leopard Installation Disk?
What happens if you open System Preferences +CDs & DVDs+ pane, and for +When you insert a video DVD+ select IGNORE? If inserting a video DVD mounts to the desktop without the freeze up, try starting DVD Player manually. If it plays without freezing up, go back to System Preferences +CDs & DVDs+ pane, and for +When you insert a video DVD+, put it back to *Open DVD Player*.
See if the original problem is got resolved.

  • Dvd player 3.2 unable to play burned dvd-  Any suggestions?

    Hello all,
I'm trying to play a burned dvd movie on my dvd player 3.2, but the dvd player doesn't automatically start playing it. My ibook, 10.2.8, doesn't seem to be able to read it. However, I tried the dvd on a new Mac and it works.
Any suggestions on what to do, besides buying a new Mac? Thanks!

I can't find the "post new topic" so I'm choosing
"reply" and hoping someone can help.
The new topic button is at the root level of each forum (like iDVD 5 or iDVD 6) towards the upper left corner. You won't see it when you are looking at someone else's messages.
I have an iMac, 10.2.8, with a DVD Player 3.2 that
has been working fine for several years.
The last few weeks when I put in a commercially made
DVD, it won't play. It doesn't automatically show up
on the desktop, and when I manually open the DVD
Player, it doesn't read the disk although the program
opens without problem. This isn't happening to all
    commercial DVDs, but most.
This isn't happening to all commercial DVDs - Doesn't sound like a problem with Apple's DVD Player application - you may have a dirty lens in your DVD drive.

  • Dolby Digital AC-3 missing: Realtek ALC892 / Creative Cambridge SoundWorks DeskTop Theater 5.1

    Hi there,
recently I purchased a new mainboard (ASUS Sabertooth X58, http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...th_X58.pdfwith an internal soundchip ALC892 from Realtek. This mainbard has an internal S/PDIF-Connector which I connected to a coax cable for fitting the Dolby Digital AC-3 S/PDIF input of the Creative Cambridge SoundWorks DeskTop Theater 5.1 (model CSW3000, 998, http://download.cambridgesoundworks....nuals/DTT5.pdf
As the SoundWorks has an internal Dolby decoder working it seems to be somewhat difficult to get the noise going. Simply connecting the cable does not work, neither tuning the Realtek sound driver. It seems that the Realtek driver is missing an option to stream directly to the DTT5.1.
Is there any possibility to get the combination working?
    Best regards, Ingo Wolfmller

I installed my old Audigy 2 and connected the Speakers. The digital output of that soundcard works. So the speakers are alright. But the AC-3 stream e.g. coming from an DVD delivers a steady crunching/crashing sound. Maybe a configuration problem although I fixed the output to Dolby Digital an 48 kHz.
The internal Realtek still delivers nothing.

  • HP desktop computer can not play Blu-ray DVDs. Who is responsible for this?

In 2010, I blought an HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer (running Windows 7). This computer was advertised as having a Blu-ray DVD player, as well as players for regular DVDs and CDs. All these years, I've been successfully playing regular DVDs and CDs. Until now, I have not attempted to play a Blu-ray DVD.
I recently rented the "Divergent" Blu-ray DVD (as well as the "Divergent" regular DVD) from my local library. When I tried to play the Blu-ray DVD, the HP MediaSmart software and the Windows Media Player detected the Blu-ray but were not able to play the Blu-ray.
I then downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html    This Codec Pack was supposed to help Windows Media Player play the Blu-ray. That did not work. When I got rid of the Codec Pack using System Restore, HP MediaSmart and Windows Media Player became unable to detect the Blu-ray in the Blu-ray drive. After another System Restore, HP MediaSmart and Windows Media Player were once again able to detect the Blu-ray (but were still unable to play the Blu-ray).
I then downloaded Cyberlink PowerDVD 14, which played the Blu-ray for only about 7 seconds before crashing. I then got rid of Cyberlink PowerDVD 14 with a System Restore.
I downloaded TotalMedia Theatre version 6.0.1.123. However, this software did not detect the Blu-ray. I then got rid of TotalMedia Theatre with a System Restore. After that, I was not able to play ANYTHING, including CDs and regular DVDs. CDs and regular DVDs were not being detected by playing software. After another System Restore, I was once again able to play CDs and regular DVDs. However, I do not want to risk trying to play the Blu-ray again.
So, what's going on here? HP advertised this computer as having a Blu-ray DVD player. Wasn't HP responsible for providing software that could play Blu-ray DVDs? And why is the Blu-ray DVD, sometimes detected, and sometimes not detected, by playing software? Is there some kind of hardware issue?
Who is responsible for the fact that my computer can not play Blu-ray DVDs? HP, for bad playing software and/or bad hardware? Or is there something in the Windows 7 operating system that prevents the playing of Blu-ray DVDs? Is Microsoft responsible?
    Thanks for any information.

You're not going to get any help from HP or Microsoft on a 4 year old computer.   Maybe your optical drive is no longer able to play Bluray discs.  Windows 7 Media Center with Bluray playback was not included in all versions of Windows 7.  Each computer with Bluray has an individual license; yours may have expired after not using it for 4 years.  Best advice - don't flog a dead horse.  Just get regular DVDs.

  • Hooking up DVD Player/Home Theater System to my Powerbook???

I was wondering if I could connect my one piece dvd player that is also a home theater amplifier to my powerbook. The player has the usual connectors, RCA, S-Video, and Component outs. Is there a way to hook it up so the video is displayed on my tiny 12 inch powerbook?
BTW, it's an one year old powerbook.

    Anyone???

  • Desktop Theater 5.1, DT2200 - no sound

I have a Dell Dimension 8400, the sound card is on the motherboard. I wanted to use my Cambridge Desktop Theater 5.1, DT2200 speakers with it, but I get no sound from them. They work fine on my other computers, and the speakers that came with the Dell work fine. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem? Thanx, Chris

    HI
It has SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. Yes is does support 5.1. It has 3, one for the subwoofer, one for "most speakers w/ integrated amplifiers and black one to attach multichannel-capable speakers.
Everything is plugged in where it should be. Still no sound. Any ideas?
    Chris

  • My husband made a DVD of our photos on his 2011 Mac desktop.    Why can't I play this on a DVD player.  I've tried 3 times and the DVD players do not recognize the format

My husband made a DVD of our photos on his Mac desktop but I cannot play it on a DVD player.  Why?

Drag the iDVD icon out of the Dock.  Go to the Applications folder and drag iDVD back into the dock and try to open.  If it still doesn't open try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. Once you make the library visible you'll be able to find and delete the files mentioned above.

  • Volume problem with Desktop Theatre 5.1 DTT2200

    Hi,
I'm experiencing problems with my Desktop Theatre 5.1 DTT2200's volume. It goes up and down with no sense. Doesn't matter if I'm watching a movie, listening to music, playing games or whatever. The speaker system is connected to a SB Live! Sound card but even if I disconnect it and I use the onboard sound plugs it is still happenning the same problem.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks in advance!

I Have the same problem, really a shame cause the soundquality is very good, but if i have too keep adjusting the volume it's not really serving it's purpose.
The potmeter of the volumecontrol is malfunctioning. You could try disasssembling it and clean it but that didn't work for me till yet. Best is to replace the potmeter but it is impossible to find a replacement. I'm told it's a very (too) cheap component unsuitable for frequent use so i think Creative shouldn't had used it in the first place. I'm told it's a ct. component fot the far east.
I contacted Creative but they can't supply me with a substitution, either a potmeter or volumecontrol.
The volume control can't be found elsewhere because Creative designed their own connector i think.
Guess i have to annoy the crap out of myself before i buy another set.

  • Can't open Ipod,DVD player,games. When I select something from my desktop

when I select Ipod,DVD player or previously installed games from my desktop they appear in the dock for a second or two and then disappear. Followed by the " cancel, retry or report message. I have owned this eMAC for about four years with no problems.

Boot in Safe Mode. See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 Takes a while to run, but it usually "fixes" problems.
    Have you repaired permissions?

  • How do I remove DVD Player from my desktop?

Somehow I have the application "DVD Player" in Launchpad, in my Application folder, and on my Desktop.  I want to remove the icon from the desktop.  If I drag the icon from the desktop to the Trash, the application will not open in Launchpad or from the application folder.
What steps do I need to follow to remove this misplaced icon from my desktop?

Then, drag the app from the Desktop into Applications. Authenticate if requested. That'll fix that issue. As for LP, I don't use that screen real estate waster with it's gaudy icons. Over colored there, but missing on the sidebar and many apps. Nonsense.

  • DVD Player video clips--how to save to desktop?

I am in DVD Player, watching a non-copyrighted movie I made in iMovie.
I wanted to create a video clip from it, so I went into Controls>New Video Clips and created a clip.   I then went to Window>Video Clips and found my clip there, all safe and sound.
But now I want to save it to my desktop so I can work with it (like turning it into a QT movie), but I can't figure out how to do that.  Thanks for your help!

But capturing a clip--meaning several seconds of elapsed time in moving-picure form--that is not possible.
You can use video screenshot applicaitons to copy selected segments of the playing DVD in DVD Player.  Two that I use are Snap Pro x and Screenflick.  There are many others which you can consider by going to MacUpdate.com and searching for "screen video".

  • No sound from external speakers Desktop Theater 5.1 SB 5.1 Platinum

System had been working but lost sound from speakers. All wiring and cables are correct. Can only hear sound from headphones plugged into jack in front of the computer. I noticed on the Decoder\Amplifier that the only light that will come on is the power light. None of the other buttons or lights appear to be working.
Any help or ideas will be appreciated!
    Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me! The speaker system is a Cambridge Sound Works Desktop Theater 5.1. I do unplug the headphones when trying to use the speakers. I've checked for updated drivers and everything checks out through the device manager.
I guess I'm still concerned about the fact that I can't get anything on the box to respond or to light up other then the power indicator. How possible is it that the unit has failed internally? I'm running this on a Dell 4600 and it has worked in the past but stopped several weeks ago. I didn't install any new hardware or do anything that would have changed any settings.
I've run out of ideas, short of removing and reinstalling all of the Creative software and drivers so any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Todd

  • When I try to burn my slideshow.mov to a dvd disc, it will burn but when i put it in the dvd player it says 'disc error'. I have burned it thru iDVD before but forgot how to do it and it won't do it now. The slide show is on my desktop

when I try to burn my slideshow.mov to a dvd disc, it will burn but when i put it in the dvd player it says 'disc error'. I have burned it thru iDVD before but forgot how to do it and it won't do it now. The slide show is on my desktop

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
