Desktop user to identify user of application : is it possible and how ?

Hi,
In windows (xp) everyone has a username to login on the network of my firm.
I´m building a survey and want everyone having access to only his own record. No password needed.
How to get the username of the windows-environment ?
Any reaction will be appreciated.

Leo - I haven't tried that technique but you can put javascript in a page header. Maybe you just need that on the "starting" page. If you need it on every page, use a page 0 region header or page 0 HTML region to hold it.
Since I haven't tried it, I won't try to guess how you would get the value into a page item but it shouldn't be hard.

The easiest way is set up a new user profile on your PC. Then copy the iTunes folder to the public folder and from there copy it to the iTunes folder in the new user profile.
(this way you can use music in both accounts, even if you bought it from Apple - it needs to be DRM free though, so older stuff might be protected)

I think it's just a little over $200 if you don't have an older version to upgrade. Around $100 if you do.

Firefox shortcut on desktop is displaying a padlock. What does this mean and how do I get rid of it?

The Firefox shortcut on my desktop is displaying a padlock. It did not have this earlier today and I have no idea where it came from or what it means. When opening Firefox with this shortcut the page is then outlined in red. Does anybody know what has caused this and how to get rid of it?

Maybe your security software (anti-virus, firewall) is blocking Firefox.

User-specific Applications folder : inheritance possible ?

Hello,
Very rarely does anybody use this computer, but I'm learning about account security and trying it out in order to learn about how it works. So I created accounts for Administrator, Guest, and made my primary account standard.
I have a growing number Applications and some of them aren't really of much use to anyone who uses this computer. So I figured this would be a good chance to learn about a private Applications folder.
I created an "Applications" folder inside my home folder, and OS X was nice enough to give it the special "A" icon. (Thanks OS X! However, I was hoping that it would "inherit" the Apps from the main Applications folder and add those inside my Home directory to it. Currently they function as two completely separate folders, which works okay, but is less convenient.
Is there a way to do this? If there is no built-in way, is there a way to accomplish this with Folder Actions? (I haven't used Folder Actions yet, but I'm reading about them and they're quite interesting....)

Well, I do already have an alias of "/Applications" in the Finder sidebar. Your suggestion functions, but what I'm trying to do is eliminate the extra click in switching from "~/Applications" to "/Applications". Not a huge deal, just an inconvenience I would like to ditch.
So my hope is that there's a way to go to "~/Applications" and have it list everything from "/Applications" in addition to the local contents.
Possible? *sniff sniff*

Windows user switching to Mac, finding everything and how to?

Hi, I'm currently a Windows 7 user. I'm happy with windows but I could be happier!
I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 and I absolutly love how they work together (via iCloud etc) and also how everything looks and feels. One thing in my opinion that wipes W7 off the age is the fluidness of a Mac. Just how well and easily it works. As Steve Jobs said last year "it just works" and he's right!
Another big thing that I love about Mac is the connection between the iOS and OSX Lion (and upcoming Moutain Lion).
And I feel the need (or want) to switch to Mac because I want that connection with my mobile devices and my Laptop/ Home Computer.
But there's a few things that are stopping me from doing that and it's basically my lack of knowledge regarding OSX Lion etc...
It's simple things like Music. On windows, you press the start menu and you see music where you have all your folders regarding music (Albums, songs, or other audio) and also Photo's with all your photo albums etc etc etc...
Another thing holding me back is Software. For example, I burn a lot of CD's for DJ'ing. I use Nero 10 on my PC. Is there any Mac equivilant software that can let me name the CD, burn at different speeds etc etc....
It's simple things like that. I can't really find any video's on the internet showing me these kind of things.

Under mac Os have two firefox applications, which to uninstall and how?

Hi! Have Mac Os 10.4.11 and tried many times to install firefox (wich does work) since required to drag icon into application and would load untill almost very end . Had this problem for months and could always use browser although at opening of computer would always ask to drag picture and did so quite a few time as new trial but to no havail. Since dragging didn't work, kept copys of both to keep bookmarks and now would like to either delete or uninstall one of firefox applications.

Might have been better sticking with one topic for this; could get confusing with two.
However; The only Applications icon in the finder window sidebar should be an alias to the Applications folder in the Macintosh HD (at least by default). I would suggest you just drag the one in the Places section to the desktop and watch it disappear, then go to Macintosh HD>Applications and drag that folder to replace the one you just removed - that will ensure that the correct one is in Places.
As for the one in the home folder, my new MacBook surprised me by having an Applications folder in the home folder, too; though as it's a new computer it was empty. So I can see how you might have one there, as it appears to have been part of the SL install.
What's intriguing though is how you come to have so many applications in that folder, including duplicates of some of those in the HD Apps folder. Are these Applications at the same standard of update as those in the HD folder? or are they earlier versions?
If they're earlier versions (and I'm guessing they may be), is it possible they've been migrated from a previous installation on that iMac during upgrade?
Whatever the reason they're there, if they're not required, trash them (from the home folder Apps folder) or indeed if there's nothing you actually want in there, trash the whole Applications folder from the Home folder.
The Dock behaviour sounds correct if two different versions of an Application are open, so you shouldn't see it again once you've removed the duplicated apps.
Whatever you do, *DO NOT* remove the Applications folder from Macintosh HD!

My iPhone 5 appears to be using too much memory, particularly 7.9GB out of the 32GB labeled "OTHER". Even my iPad Air has only 3.9GB labeled "OTHER". How do I identify what "OTHER" is actually used for and how do I mitigate this?

According to iTunes I am using approximately 20.35GB of the available 27.32GM of memory, leaving about 7GB free. Of the used memory, about 7.9GB is labeled "OTHER". Making the same measurement on my iPad Air, only 3.9GB is labeled "OTHER". Why am I loosing so much memory capacity and what do I do to mitigate this problem?
This is having a significant effect on using my iPhone for recording Video interviews which in some cases constitute two to three hours of video. I need to be able togged the "OTHER" memory space so I can do more than one video recording during a session. Lowering the "OTHER" category to 3.9GB, the same as the iPad Air, would make it possible to record two or in some cases three videos before having to offload them to the MacBook Pro for editing in the evening.

The subject tells most. I would like to browse and purchase iPhone applications at business when I have a speedy net and constant web access to download them at home where I shall dock my iPhone.

I forgot to tell that at business I have, sadly, a Windows machine. I did not find there any 'Mobile Application' folder in the iTunes one. I do not know if that depends on the fact I never bought here any application.
