Telling folks that the solution is to uninstall FaceRig without offering any other alternatives,  when this exact behaviour by Skype is seen for other applications is a tad odd .
At any rate, we have talked with some of our affected users ( this does not affect everyone doing the update, just some) and we trust that we have found the  solution (has been confirmed by some of our users to get both Skype 7.0.0.102 and FaceRig working together again). Seems the problem  to has to do with the default webcam settings (you just need to go though the Skype initial setup again) . The short version of the fix is:
1. Go to Steam Client and do a "remove local application data" on FaceRig
2. Go though the initial setup process on Skype ( now it won't crash) and/or visit the webcam setting menu and make sure everything is working and everything is updated.
3. Re-install facerig (skip reinstalling the open codecs if you already have them installed)
Now everything should be working.
I recommend reading the detailed step by step on the FaceRig Steam support forums:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/274920/discussions/ ( look for the Skype 7.0.0.102 pinned thread - i cqannot link directly that thread because there is a limit on the length of URL's here.)
PS: if you are the tinkering type, steps 1 and 3 can be simply substituted by un-registering and then re-registering the direct show filters ( all of them) for the FaceRig Virtual Cam ( .bat files are provided with facerig to do exactly just that) , but most folks do not want to mess with directly registering/unregistering DirectShow filters, so it is simpler to ask for an uninstall and a re-install.
Note that this kind of fix might also work for FFsplit.ax or other affected DirectShow filters too ( as this issue is not particular to FaceRig alone).

  • BlackBerry Desktop Software shuts down when connecting secondary device

    All,
I have a main and a secondary phone (used for local SIM when traveling abroad)
After I backup my main device I connect my secondary device to be able to "Restore" and have all my contacts sync on both, but alas, once the secondary device is trying to connect the Desktop Software just shuts down without giving any error
The Backup process itself works great
I use the same cable, same USB Port, both devices have a charged battery and work great on a day to day basis
    Main Device: BlackBerry 9900
    Secondary Device: BlackBerry 9870
    Desktop Software Version: 7.0.0.59 (May 16, 2012 Bundle 60)
Laptop OS: Windows XP Professional SP3
    Thanks

I'm not familiar with this particular package, but with similar packages from other carriers there's usually a setting that lets the program control your Network - it may only say Wi-Fi.
The BlackBerry drivers include a Dial-Up connection which is probably getting shut down by the software which kills Desktop Manager.
If you turn off that option, the problem should go away (reboot probably a good idea).

    Hi sunburnhaven,
I understand that you may have applications that are unresponsive. If the applications are still running, they may be preventing your computer from shutting down. Here is some information on how we can quit those applications:

  • Desktop G5 shuts down during startup

Just sold our Desktop G5 to my in-laws. (It has always worked well for us.) Put 10.4 on it and everything has run just fine for a couple months. All of a sudden, it turns off during startup. It tries to restart, probably because I put the settings to restart in case of power outage. It sometimes gets to the desktop, even starts to open some applications as usual. Then other times it turns off during startup, only getting as far as the gray apple startup screen. We have changed everything we can such as different electrical outlet. (grabbing at straws.)
It did have a cd in it but when managed to get it out. This had no effect on the problem.
Also tried resetting SMU, with no effect on problem. Also held down option to get to chose startup disk while the 10.4 cd was in drive, but still does the same thing. Held C down too to force it to cd but did not work....same problem.
    Thanks for your help.

I have a Powermac G5-I only have in the computer what was factory installed. The computer is a little over 5 years old. The problem started after I booted up and logged in. My desktop and pointer were frozen. I could not escape and I tried to shut down doing a force quit. No Luck. I eventually had to unplug the computer from the wall. Upon restarting the computer, when it came on, all I got was a gray screen with the Apple logo. After about a minute of this, The internal cooling fans would come on full blast. I also tried booting from the start-up disk (I had to install the disk manually, because the drive would not respond to the key command) with no luck. I have taken it to the Mac store. Their conclusion was it could be the motherboard or the CPU's, but they weren't certain either. Do you think it could be possible that it's not the CPU or Logicboard? The expense for replacing both, almost doesn't make it worth it. Any ideas?

  • My desktop window shuts down automatically since lion's install...

    Hi
Sorry for my english, I am not english !
Since i've installed OSX Lion, I can't change my desktop's wallpaper
When I reach the window from the desktop or from the preferences window, the spinning wheel appears and then it shuts down.
I tried what someone advised to do on 10.4 4 years ago, but it doesn't work with lion, since the things to be removed don't exist anymore.
I'd appreciate your help, thanks in advance.

Hi, thank you very much for your reply. No my phone was never been jailbreak-ed. Never been dropped in water or in any wet surface. Dropped on the floor while texting yes, but it was just a one time incident, last year august i can clearly remember, but after that no more (phone still works fine even after.) restored the phone again earlier, but problem still occured. Will try to go to Apple also to ask and have it checked.  Just worried because my phone is already out of warranty. Will keep you posted. Again, thanks. If you have any more advice just let me know. It would mean a lot.

  • P7-1534 HP pavilion Desktop PC, Shut down and sleep problem's

p7-1534 HP pavilion desktop PC, Windows 8, 64-bit, Sometimes when i shut down my PC, the PC won't shut down it will stay on and i will have to use the power button to shut down the PC, and today i put the PC to sleep and it did not wake up when i tried to wake it up i had to use the power button restart the PC. i did a memory diagnostic and found no errors.

    Hi dwellas
I understand you are having issues with shutting down the computer and not being able to wake it up.
You  might have a  application or process running in the background that is not shutting down properly. Close all tray applications that you can, make sure you close all programs first, and try again. If that works, you need to see what you have installed that may be causing this.
You can do a msconfig and turn off start up programs to see if it is still something running in the background.
Here is a url to temporarily disable all the start up programs to see if one of them is causing any issues.

You will have to follow the same steps to enable all again.

  • P6-2220t desktop keeps shutting down

My brand new desktop shuts itself down almost daily; usually overnight.  When we manually restart with the power button it gives a message that windows shut down unexpectedly.  Any ideas?  Have installed all updates coming through microsoft auto updates already.

What is the installed operating system?
Does your desktop have the Intel or AMD CPU?
Have you run the HP Support Assistant's Tune-up application?
That would be the first thing to do.
I suggest that you turn off automatic updates for Windows. Change the setting to download updates but let me choose which to install. That way you are in control of what happens to your PC.
You might consider using Windows system restore to choose a restore point dated to before the shutdown issue began. there does exist the possibility that a particular update or newly installed software is causing the shutdown.

  • HP Pavilion All-in-One MS237 Desktop PC : Shuts down

Hello  can someone please help me I have an all in one computer an after I'm on foe a few minutes it shuts down
    Thank you

    Hello mystery7,
I understand that that your computer will shut down.
First make sure that there is not a buildup of dust in the system by cleaning the vents out with a can of compressed air.
    Turn off the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
    Run the startup test.
This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • Hic-cup when shutting down

A recent change which worries me somewhat.
I usually wait for the computer to shut down using the message “if you do nothing your computer will shutdown in 2 mins, 1min 59...” Until recently, when the 2 minutes were up the screen went black and then the computer shut down.
Now the screen goes black and then returns to the desktop for a split second before shutting down.
If I click shut down in the message box, the shutdown is immediate.
I have tried starting up in “safe mode” and then shutting down and get the same results of going back to the desktop before shutting down.
I’ve done maintenance: Applejack, DiskWarrior with no problems found.
Could this be a hardware problem ?

I always quit everything before shutting down - an old habit
    Me too.
Oct 30 20:25:20 iMac-G5 shutdown: halt by irene:
    Oct 30 20:25:20 iMac-G5 SystemStarter[516]: authentication service (524) did not complete successfully
Don't know if this is normal or not.
    Don't recall ever seeing that.
Now the screen goes black and then returns to the desktop for a split second before shutting down.
I didn't get that. Do you use widgets at all? Any anti-virus software? I am thinking that this may be an application that is the last to close before shutdown.

  • MacBook Won't Shut Down

    Hi Folks.
I've been using Macs for a long time with much success trouble shooting when needed. But while my MacBook 2Ghz Core Duo starts & runs fine, but will not shut down normally. It stops at the "cleared desktop" view and that's it. I've repaired permissions, turned Airport on & off.......
    Any suggestions? Many thanks!!

Let's see... Although not directly related, I would zap the PRAM:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
I've also read things about some USB peripherals preventing shut down. You might want to rule that out also (by removing them of course).
Finally, I would try trashing a .plist file wich may have become corrupt.
    Here's the path:
    HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration >com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
Drag it to the desktop, try shutting down. If it works, trash the file (a new one is automatically created in the appropriate place, no worries).
Hope this helps. I'm out of ideas. Thanks for the star.
    Cheers

Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
Once your Mac has booted to the desktop, click Shut Down from the Apple () menu to test.
