Desktop video firmware updater running my MBP at Full Capacity

Hi guys,
I don't know what I did, but my MBP 13" Retina Display is running at full capacity with fans at full! When I go to check in the Activity Monitor it tells me that the "Desktop Video Firmware Updater" is running 97% of my CPU, How do I make it stop o fix this? Thanks!

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • After EFI Firmware update 2.3, MBP Early 2011 will not boot. During restart it all went wrong please help!

    Hello,
I've done an ample amount of Internet research to find an answer to this problem however nothing yet found is quite like this. I will start from the beginning.
I am traveling through Europe, and I normally live in California. When I arrived in Ireland my MBP early 2011 15 inch, began crashing constantly when I had several tabs open on Chrome and maybe one or two low CPU/Memory using applications, nothing the 8gb RAM &750gb hard drive can't normally handle. Thus I began trouble shooting.  I ran disk utility once started up and repaired both disk and permissions. Still crashing. It didn't seem like it had anything to do with a kernel panic shut down, I never would receive the usual message indicating so. After that I did an SMC reset. It was still crashing. I then upgraded the OSX from 10.8 to 10.8.4 believing it could help. It did momentarily, but then crash again. (When it crashes screen goes black suddenly and upon pressing power button does a regular boot on my single partition). I decided attempting to repair using the Internet recovery option but it appeared my MBP had not yet have it installed, so I downloaded from Apple and began installing. Here I made a mistake, I unplugged the power source as it was restarting. When the gray screen and apple appeared, the loading bar shows up as it says it will when installing the update, but when the bar fully loads it crashes every time. I've tried starting in safe mode, which then loads but never goes further (I let it stand for two hours such as that and nothing). Then I decided to allow the MBP to fully charge overnight to give it time and charge. This morning the problem has stayed the same, even with power source plugged in. Please help I need this to work.
Thank you and please ask any questions!

Your constant crashing problem is probably some type of hardware fault which no update can fix. Doing the 10.8.4 update and then the firmware update just caused further problems. you need to take thr system to a apple store to be diagnosed and fixed if cost effective.

  • N97 Firmware update - E: Mass memory 100% full -- ...

    Help!!!
I just did an firmware update on my N97 to v11.2.021 and when the phone restarted I got a message that E:\ (mass memory) is completely FULL.
And my F:\ (a 1GB memory card) shows corrupted. **bleep**!?? I'm glad I didn't store anythign important there.
I looked up via the File manager and sure enough, the E:\ (mass memory) show 0 MB free. I opened it up.. but I can't quite tell what's takign up all the space.
I see a few weirdly named/weirdo character filenames.
Can somebody please help?!! Is there a way to roll off the update?!

Okay.. here's what I've done. The phone was working alright after the update (maybe just a tad slower) and I didn't notice any other issues except for E:\ filling up.
After a while.. when I'd use File Manager in the phone to browse to E:\.. I got a (memory corrupted) message. So my E:\ was pretty much done/gone.
So I did the hard reset *#0730# and then from the File Manager.. did a 'Format Memory' on E:\ and this cleaned E:\ up.
BUT... all my pre-loaded US map data is now gone. The lady at the Nokia Flagship store had told me the N97 came with pre-loaded US maps. They're all gone now.. oh well.
But i'm still effin annoyed that the update didn't work though.. so Nokia still gets a thumbs-down in this department.

  • EFI firmware updated. Now fans on full all the time.

I updated the EFI firmware since Apple suggested it.
I have done the troubleshooting (turn off and unhook all the cables {for a week!}, open it up and reset the button) and have had no luck.
I called Apple and of course since I'm just out of warranty, I have to pay to have them tell me the same troubleshooting thing again.
I wish I could go back to the 'bad' firmware I had before, but cannot.

Glad it works now. Maybe firmware updates should be done with system stripped down, some voodoo there.
I had and saw a lot of problems with 10.5.1 and would never touch it, very flaky and unstable with some things and needed a dose of Disk Warrior even. I wouldn't even give it the dignity of calling it beta let alone release candidate, I'd go all the way back to 10.4.11. But still not certified for 10.5.4+ seems odd (10.5.4 is what the current retail DVD carries).

  • USB/Firewire/DVD drives working but not showing up on my desktop after firmware update

I just updated my 15inch Macbook Pro (early 2011) to the latest firmware patch and now none of my external hard drives, flash drives, or DVDs are showing up on my desktop. I can still access all of the files from the side bar in a finder window (and play movies in DVD player, etc). This was not a problem before I updated my computer about an hour ago.  I already tried restarting it and that did nothing.  I went into disk utility and tried repairing the drives but it claims there is nothing wrong with them.  In sum, everything is functioning properly, but nothing is showing up on my desktop.
Does anyone have any insight as to why this may be and/or any solutions to the problem?

In Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart.(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Second disk lost after video firmware update...

After updating the firmware on the Radeon X1900, my second disk disappeared from desktop. System Profiler and the Disk Utility show the drive, but cannot see it anywhere else.

OK, so I just called tech support and their final conclusion is to reformat the drive. That's it! No answers, explanation.
You know? To me, Apple is starting to look more like a mediocre hardware company and a sound as arrogant as Microsoft.

  • Can't instal SMC firmware update on my MBP 1.83

Hi. I tried installing the new firmware 3 times but my MBP restarts and shows a blinking file folder with a question mark. If i then restart i start right up into OSX. I also have a partition for XP and have no problems booting using the option key. Any ideas? Thanks all!!

    Hi,
First go to System Preferences -> Startup Disk -> select your Macintosh Disk, and click the lock to prevent changes.
    That should do it.

  • Post-Firmware Update Problems--HELP

Several weeks ago I downloaded the Firmware update for my MBP. My MBP had an intermittent history of going to sleep and not waking up. When I ran the update, my MBP crashed and would not reboot. I had to obtain a copy of an original firmware disk from my local Apple dealer and load that in order to get my computer to operate.
Thereafter, using "original" firmware, my MBP had a regular problem with unexpected shut downs. I just got around to re-downloading and installing the recommended firmware update, and I am experiencing the unexpected quits again! Quits occur without regard to battery charge level. Since the update the quits happen within a couple of minutes of use. Before update the quits would happen later than the first couple of minutes of use. These unexpected quits are tethering me to an outlet and making me crazy.
    1. Was the firmware update suppose to correct my original problem (not waking from sleep occassionally)?
    2. Was the firmware update suppose to correct my new problem (unexpected quits)? If so, why didn't it?
    3. Is it possible that the crash several weeks ago caused another software problem that is causing confusion regarding power availability?

I sent my computer in last week with that same problem, and another case issue. They repaired the case and replaced some sensors.
But when I called Apple because I was STILL having unexpected Quits when I got it back, they said the Apple Care technician couldn't duplicate the Quits.
Does anyone think this is a power supply issue? Because when I plugged it in and started it up, it seemed to be okay. Or is it a motherboard issue? It seems to be working now that I've run disk utility from the install cd, and since I've plugged it in. Should I send it back in?

  • Can't install OS 9 on CRT iMac after firmware update

This is a bit long winded, sorry!
I bought a "working" 2001 iMac, 500MHz, slot-loader, 20 gig HD, CDRW off eBay (the CDRW didn't!) that ran in OS 9. With an external CDRW it worked well, booting the OS discs fine.
The previous owner had left his details on a supposedly deleted OS X account, so I decided to do a clean install to remove them with a supplied disc. I noticed in Utilities that a firmware update was available, 4.1.7, so used it, then did a clean OS 10 install, remembering to install the OS 9 drivers too. I bet you can guess what's coming!- yes, the OE discs wouldn't load OS 9.
Having read postings on this forum (thanks, guys!) I bought a retail version of 9.1 to use, the white/gold one with Sherlock, but this won't load either.
The main problem facing me now is that I can't update to a proper OSX without updating the firmware to 4.1.9, for which I need OS 9 installing!!! (I'd quite like OS 9 back too!)
I've reset the PRAM,and even wiped & reformatted the HD and reinstalled the 9 drivers again using the OSX disc and then powering down (you're not meant to, I know!) and still I couldn't load 9 up, trying both ways to load, just getting the "question mark on floppy" symbol.
Any help, please? Haven't tried target disc mode transfer yet, but could get another machine to do it.
Thanks for your patience with this matter, Mark Mac.

I had a similar problem once (I'll spare you the details!) and what I did in the end was this:
    1. Take the hard drive out of the iMac and put it in a FireWire enclosure.
    2. Erase it and put OS9 on it down the wire from another working Mac. You don't necessarily have to use the installer CD; you can just copy the OS9 system across from another Mac and it will work as a valid system.
    3. If you don't think it installed properly (as mine hadn't) put the installer for the firmware update into the startup items folder of the OS9 installation.
    4. Put the HDD back into the iMac and reassemble.
    5. Turn it on, whereupon it should automatically start the firmware update, running natively in OS9. Delete the firmware update installer from Startup Items.
    6. Update to 9.1 if not already, as that is the minimum for installing OSX
    7. Restart in 9.1, introduce OSX install discs and begin installation.
I know all this sounds a faff, but it worked for me and is quite logical if you think about it - not much can go wrong as long as you don't wreck the iMac while taking it to bits. One extra tip: don't install anything later than Panther on an iMac G3, because it won't be happy. And even with Panther, you might want to consider installing using XPostFacto (see versiontracker) which helps older Macs cope.
Good luck - let us know how you get on.

  • Finder won't launch after Firmware Update

I ran the firmware update for my MBP (MBP31.0070.B07). Now, my finder will not automatically launch upon restart/login. I can click on the Finder icon in the dock and launch the finder, but it won't do so on its own.

    Weird...
Go into /Applications/Utilities/Console.app. Click on "Console Messages" on the left side. Is there anything specifically mentioning the Finder in the text that appears on the right side from around the time you logged in? Then check LOG FILES->~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. Are there any crash logs listed with Finder in the name? If so, copy/paste the bottom one into a reply and post it up. With that info we might be able to figure out what is going on with your machine... Good luck...

  • Why can't I apply the 2.9 firmware update to my 2012 MBP, running 10.8.2?

why can't I apply the 2.9 firmware update to my 2012 MBP 9,1 running 10.8.2?

What happens, exactly? What firmware version do you now have installed?

  • Macbook Pro has short battery life and runs hotter after firmware update

I installed the macbook pro EFI firmware update yesterday and now my MBP runs hotter and the fan starts running earlier than it has ever done before. Also, my battery lasts 51 minutes from a full charge whereas, before the update, it lasted 2 hours (using the same programs and display settings).
Has anybody else seen this problem?
Please tell me I'm not alone with seeing this. I am hoping that there is a solution and it's better than 'buy a new battery'. The fact that my box now runs hotter with the fan on more constantly would not be solved by a new battery I think.

Also had the problem of MBP running much hotter after most recent Firmware update.
My fans have been running at 6k RPM constantly, and processor Temps have been running at 70-88°.
Following the advice in this topic, I checked the Activity Monitor, which told me both my account and my son's account (which was running but had no actual applications running) had separate Airport processes going nuts – each at approx 80-95%!
Switching off airport and logging out of my son's account almost immediately started to cool the processors, and the fans began to slow down. Switching Airport back on doesn't seem to heat things up again, but if I start to crunch numbers, it all happens over again...
So who knows why the firmware update is making these processes freak out.... weird.

  • MBP 2011/MC724 performance decreasing after firmware updating

On the third day after buying a suddenly degraded performance.   No additional software installed (except for the adobe flash player).
Perhaps the problem is caused by a firmware update.  I've Installed it from the standard upgrades. System Restore from DVD (with full HD cleaning), not solve problem.
Current performance can not even watch videos on youtube.
Who else is having the same problem with apple mbp 2011?
What do I do with it?  How to fix the problem?
thank you in advance for your help.
    Sasha.

youtube, safari, showing spaces and so on.  Heavy freezes. Even during the first boot (after recovery from the DVD) when the music plays, there are freezes and crackling sound.

  • Early MBP and latest firmware updates...

I got my MBP on Apr 13...I can't remember if I did the 1.01 firmware update...
How would I check to see if I did that update. Software Update does not tell me which updates have been installed.
Current SMC version is 1.2f7, would I need 1.01 or just install new MBP SMC update that Software Update alerted me to today???
    Thanks!!

To check to see if the firmware update has already been run, follow the instructions in this thread. The older firmware update is not included in the SMC update.

  • N91 firmware update & Live 8 Videos

    Hi,
I want to preform a firmware update on my N91, but I am worried that I might not be able to play the Live 8 videos that came with the phone if I do so.
I have backed up the memory (but not the hard disk) using PC suite, and copied the .dcf files from the hard disk to the PC. Is this enough to ensure I keep them, or are they stored somewhere else? Will I lose them when doing a firmware update?
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi
Yup. 2.10 seems to be now rolling out (it will probably take about 2 weeks to get to all countries and operators like 2.00 did).
I bet this resolves the issue with some 3rd party applications not running, sms slow down etc
I loaded it and actually bought the BestTaskman (because so many people talked about it) and it works (it a good app too)
