Desktop Video Out

when I play audio in Final Cut 4.5 out the firewire port..... I get massive distorition. Playing audio out the computer audio out port is OK.
I noticed in my software update, that "Desktop Video Out 1.2.1" was installed.
can this file be the source of my problem?
- Can I just remove the "DesktopVideoOut.component" in the Library/Quicktime folder without any more catastrophes
- can I also just remove the "DesktopVideoOutUpdate.pkg" file in Library/Receipts folder to fully eliminate the problem
Thanks

Desktop Video Out Update addresses an issue with Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and Final Cut Express HD 3.0 when using Digital Cinema Desktop Preview (Main).
This update is recommended for Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and Final Cut Express HD 3.0 customers.
As you can see this doesn't relate to audio.
What is the source of your audio? Is it 48/16 stereo aiff?

  • Extended Desktop (video out) issues

Hi, I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up an extended desktop onto another monitor using my iMac G5, 1.8 GHz. Mirroring the desktop is fine, and the help screen says that if there's no "Arrangement" option, then it won't be able to set up the extended desktop. I don't see this, but I seem to remember having this computer use a second display as an extended desktop before. Is there a solution for this or am I destined for mirrored desktops only?

yep, sounds like your computer doesn't support spanning, only mirroring...
As someone else said there is a firmware extension script called 'screen spanning doctor' (google it). I wouldn't call it a hack as you can remove it by resetting your pram, i think... however, it can mess your computer up, so really think before you want to use it!!

  • Using Video Out Distorts Desktop Icons

When I use my video out, the icons on my desktop get moved around. I understand why this happens when the resolution changes to send video out, but why don't the icons restore back to their original locations once I disconnect the video out? Is there a way to prevent the icons moving or to get the computer to restore them automatically? It's such a pain that I avoid using video out even though I could get a lot of use out of it. Any suggestions short of removing all the icons from my desktop? Thanks.

  • Video-out adapter (to S-video and composite) giving distorted output.

Recently, we had an anime-fest in my dorm, and we used my laptop (12 inch powerbook G4) with my TV-out adaptor, specifically from Apple (I didn't want to chain two adapters together). While it worked, after fighting with it for a while (the second display properties DESPERATELY need a time-out feature to restore previous settings), finally got it to work.
At which point I noticed that, while playing, the entire video would... shimmer, for lack of a better word. Watching the edge, it would distort slightly, constantly, related to what was being displayed at the time. To me, this seems to say that the analog-out processing is rather crappy, but I'm hoping there's either a way around that, or I got a bad adapter. Is there any hope?
This is all related to the composite output, I have no way to check the S-video out. However. I brought my desktop PC down the next time, and used its video-out (x800 pro. I love it), which worked flawlessly, so I know that it isn't the TV's input or the video file.

    *another bump*
Come on, anything? The distortion seems to be predictable, based on what's being displayed. In that case, this could be accounted for prior to anything even being sent to the display, and nullified. I don't suppose anyone has tried?
I know other TV-display adapters have similar issues, but this is larger than most. Something contradictory to Apple's trend.

  • Video out to hdtv

i'm using mini-dvi to s-video, and outputting to a Panasonic somethinsomethin HDTV. However it's only outputing from 640-480 up to 1024-768
is there any way to get widescreen output out of the video out? do i just need a different connector?
i know the screens native resolution is 1280-800, just like the display on my macbook

    hey there Eminemily,
does the desktop image fill the screen? if not you may have mirroring turned on, if this is the case turn it off. i get full screen desktop image on a 26" Olevia LCD widescreen w/ S-video @ highest rez available for a TV output(forget what rez is).
try this: System Prefs.>Displays>Detect Displays>Gather Windows, turn off Mirror>Set Rez for TV. i get 1920 x1080i w/ mini DVI>HDMI on my Sony 42" LCD Poj. HDTV & w/ mini DVI>DVI on Philips 23" LCD HDTV Monitor, nice for watching DVDs & QT HD content from Apple's site.
    good luck.

  • Video out to tape woes

Now I have an HD TV I thought I'd try to output finished sequences back to the camera, to play on the TV via HDMI. But I can't get FCE (3.5.1) to write correctly to the camera, a Sony FX7E. Print to video just puts the colour bars and countdown onto tape, but no material, and playback of the timeline doesn't get to the camera either.
My easy setup is HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50, but the details in the easy setup dialogue state Playback Output Video:None. View/Video Out has these options:
Canvas Playback - ticked, and three different digital cinema desktop options, all greyed out.
So, help please - how can I write back out to tape? Indeed, CAN I?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alan

  • Why Can't I get Video Out to TV?

I purchased an MSI Machine from a local distributor and they failed to give me any doocumentation. I've spent much time and anguish gathering the info. (Specs Below)
I'm trying to get video out to TV and hopefully Video in also. But I don't know what I'm doing. I was able to get ahold of the proper drivers and some MSI Software such as the NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager that I think was supplied with the MSI Driver. I can Use two Monitors in any array such as Clone, Span, Dual View and Single but I cant output to my TV using Clone and the TV-out + DVI. Do I need special software. I'm using Windows Media Player and some videos and my svideo cable connected to TV on Video 1. Please Help. Please Please. Thanks In Advance. Gregg

  • Radeon 9200 s-Video out to tv?

I've got a Blue and white Power Mac G3 with 1 gig of ram and a 600 mhz G4 processor and a radeon 9200 Mac edition graphics card. I'm try to send the desktop image as is to my tv through the s-video out. I've got the tv connected but the screen is blank. Has any one done this? How do I get the signal to got to both my monitor and my tv? Anybody know?

OK my problem was none of my equipment had an s-video in so I bought an a-b switch that had an s-video in and RCA outs and that was the problem. I took it back and exchanged it for something that converts s-video to coaxial out and that works like a charm.

  • IPad video out to HDMI mystery

I hope we can shed some light upon this.
I was wondering, what exactly Apple does with the video out feature while the iPad is connected to a 16:9 flatscreen TV via HDMI (digital AV adapter).
    What I found out:
The nominal iPad 3 resolution is 2048 x 1536, which does not fit 1080p, so the iPad scales the home screen down to what? No information about it in the iPad specs and the manual
The home screen is appearantly scaled down to 1536 x 1024, while the output is 1920 x 1080 pixels - so the home screen has a black frame
When using Photos app to view photos, the iPad screen is shown 1:1 on TV - still black frame
When using iPhoto app to view/edit photos, the output to TV is different than on iPad display - photos on TV are displayed in full height (if 3:2) and full screen (if 16:9). Unfortunately, the photo on the TV does not zoom
When using Movies app to view 1080p footage, the TV shows 1080p full screen
When using Movies app to view 720p footage, the TV shows 1080p full screen (video is upscaled by iPad)
What I'm ooking for is an app to show photos in 1080p full screen with zoom. I've tried about 5-8 different who are all supposed to do that - but they all failed. There was even one app that acted as a DLNA server so the TV loaded the photo from the iPad and did the decoding/display, but a TV is not designed for this.

*If your Display Preferences are set to Extended Desktop Mode (Mirroring Off) then it is possible to select and have a different Desktop background image for each Display.*
    Try this:
*1. Go to: System Preferences and select Displays, then click on the Arrangement tab and look at the box for Mirror Displays, is it checked or unchecked?*
    a. If you want the displays to show the same image (Mirroring) then check the box.
    b. If you want to use the connected display for viewing different wIndows (Extended Desktop) then uncheck the box and go to step 2.
*2. Go to: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Savers and click on the Desktop tab.*
    a. Now you should see a Preference window on each Display which will allow you to select or change the image on each Display.

  • Extended desktop video troubles

I have a 20" imac with a 24" extended desktop and I am loving it. There's just one thing that is very annoying. I got the second monitor because I like to watch videos while I write and search the web. but most of the video sites I go to won't stay in full screen when I click the mouse. So I'm forced to watch videos that take up only 1/4 of the screen. On many sites I can zoom into the website, but this often creates a jittery, blockiness that isn't there when the video is set to full screen.
So my question is, how can I get my browser to not jump out of fullscreen when I use the other monitor? Is there a certain browser that has that kind of option? Is there an app for my computer that will let me do that? Do I not understand something fundamental about changing video settings? Or am I completely out of luck?
I'm having this problem on sites like youtube, all the network sites, megavideo wisevid, dailymotion, zshare, ninjavideo, etc etc. Pretty much the only site that I don't have the problem with is Hulu, of which I can either use Hulu Desktop or I can pop the video out and then expand it to the size of my screen.
So I guess another question is, if I can't do something that would uniformly fix the problem for all the sites, are there any more programs like Hulu Desktop (besides netflix) that are ideal for watching on an extended desktop?

And there's one more question I was hoping to get answered that I forgot to mention.
Is there a way to dim one screen to black while the other continues to play a video? I know that frontrow does it automatically, and quicktime and vlc both do it, but I would like to be able to do it easily on my own command--maybe with quicksilver (i'm not using the program yet but plan to get used to it).

  • S-video Out

Hi, I am using an Z60M (2529ERG). I have connected the S-video out port to my TV but I cannot see any display on the TV.
    Can anyone plz help me.
I have installed the latest drivers from IBM Site.

    You have to:
      - Tell windows about second desKtop:
        * Right click on desktop, select properties. Go to 'Settings' tab.
        * Click on 'Secondary display' (i.e. select it).
        * Mark checkbox 'Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor'
     - Switch your TV to where it shows the S-Video (mine has 4 inputs and each time I have to roll over them, until reach 4th, where s-video is located).
When you tell windows to use 2nd desktop, TV must be on and cables connected. If you disconnect tv-cable, you may need (in step one to first unmark the 'extend' checkbox, apply, and mark it again.

  • What should I purchase for video out?

Do I only need to purchase the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter in order to get video out on my iMac G5? Will this same cable work to get video out to a VGA monitor from a Mac Mini Sever as well?

I figured out that I need a VGA Display Adapter http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8639G/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
in order to video mirror or do extended desktop (with additional software) on my iMac G5. I now understand that these are two different ports (iMac G5 & Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server), so I will need to purchase another adapter (Minidisplay Port to VGA adapter) http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A

  • Feedback on dark colours when I share video out

When I share my video out to either iTunes or my desktop there is some feedback or a grainy looking contrast on some of the lower light or darker colours in the movie. It does not matter what size or how I export it out, the feedback still appears. Does anyone know how to fix this.
I was running a MacBook Pro with lion on it.
    Thanks

    .. ahhh,  those .. !
    technical term: compression artefacts.
you've probably have heard of the process of compressing data - making a 2h movie fit onto a single disk, 10k songs into your pocket, thousands of pics on a tiny SDcard. ...-
that's a lossy process; and: it multiplies its errors. Trying to compress a video (=on export from within iMovie), which was already compressed (=in your camera/phone), results in this disturbing 'blocks'.
little to do to avoid it :
    a) use highest recording/export quality optional (=large files, please)
    b) avoid lossy 'inbetween steps' such as from cam>>via mail >>onto DVD >> into Mac >> thru a 3rd party converter >> into iMovie_
always straight from recording device into iMovie/iPhoto
    c) the recording situation is ... sub-optimal. TWO boys in the backseats .. very high contrasts, sunny outside, dark inside = super high dynamic range! consumer devices can cover max. 4-6 f-stops, means: no details in the shadows OR no detail in the window
final verdict of the German jury:
you have to live with it ...

  • Visual blurring with video out

I am using the video out to a 22" CRT monitor and am seeing a lot of blurring. I use the same monitor all the time with my desktop PC and have no issues. But when I run it out from my Power Book I see all images repeated a few times, slightly to the right. Not sure the best way to describe it, but like little echoes of the image repeating to the right and fading. They are close, and only repeat a few times, but it makes for tough reading and difficult detail work for the fuzziness.
Is there an easy solution for this? A hardware repair?
I am using the converter that came with the Power Book (not a digital connection on the CRT).
    Thanks.

I am still having this issue. Am I the only one? Any ideas for solutions? I have tried different resolutions, different refresh rates. The monitor is fine, it works great with my desktop. But when I switch to the G4 I get these repeated images. Each icon, line, letter, everything is repeated and fades away to the right of the original.
Thanks for any thoughts here. It is very frustrating doing any kind of reading or detail work.

  • Video Playback Option in "Preferences/Audio-Video Out"

The following did not make it into the User Guide, though it did get into the troubleshooting docs:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332121.html
332121 Video Playback option in Audio/Video Out preferences (Encore DVD)
A new option was added to the Preferences menu of version 2.0 of Adobe Encore DVD. When you select Edit > Preferences > Audio/Video Out, you see an Automatic option in the Video Playback section. This option is selected by default, allowing Encore DVD 2.0 to play video in a Standard Direct3D mode. If the feature is not selected, then video playback will be in GDI mode.
The only reason to deselect this option is in the case of poor preview playback or black video. In order for the change in preference to take effect, you must close the Monitor panel and then reopen it.
    Background information
Encore DVD 2.0 (unlike previous versions of Encore DVD) uses the Premiere Pro playback engine for video playback. Premiere Pro has three Desktop Display modes: Compatible, Standard, and Accelerated GPU Effects. In Compatible mode, video is played using the GDI. In Standard mode, video is played using Direct 3D. In Accelerated mode, video is played using Direct 3D with GPU.
The default setting for Encore DVD 2.0 is comparable to Premiere Pro's Standard mode (Direct 3D). When the Automatic option is deselected, it is comparable to Premiere Pro's Compatible mode (GDI).
If Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 detects a Direct 3D error when previewing in Standard mode, it switches to Compatible mode. Encore DVD 2.0 does not have this capability, nor does it provide the same option in the User Interface for the user to switch between the three display modes. This is why the Automatic option was included in the Audio/Video Out preferences.

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Sounds like you've been shooting at p ("progressive") frame rate (..24p or similar).
iMovie can't handle that (..except for JVC's 720p footage..) and it thinks that each frame is a "field" (..half a frame). It therefore plays those frames at double speed, thinking that there should be two 'fields' to a single frame.
Did you shoot at a "p" frame-rate..? If so, you'll need to convert the material, with some other program, so that iMovie can handle it.
I can't remember offhand what software might do this, but if you were shooting in HDV hi-def (which is recorded in the camera using the MPEG-2 video system) you may be able to use MPEG Streamclip (click on that blue link) to "unscramble" your material.
