Desktop Volume Icon Missing

Hey i was more or less wondering how to create a shortcut to my main volume. It was there earlier today and i just booted it up and it was gone. My windows partion icon is still there, but not my main one. Inconveinent....
Any help?

Since i still haven't received an answer i thought i'd try and troubleshoot. I went into disk utility and noticed something; my windows partition was "mounted" :
/Volumes/Windows
But my Main Mac HD was not! IT just says;
Mounted:/
So, i guess i'm changing my question. Anyone out there know how to mount a volume? I guess my computer isn't recognizing it or something.

why are my desktop folder icons missing?

Yes I have tried a restart, a shut down and restart, a coling off period for 5 minutes anda restart, an examination of view options and I still get nothing, no destop folders icons, just the title of the folder.  The folders without icons will open and their contents are displayed, just not the icons.  The only icons I see are the hard drives, I have 4 in my old mac pro.  So what gives?

  • Desktop drive icon missing for just one of several USB external drives

I have a Mac Mini running OS 10.8.2 Server. There are 12 Seagate Flex USB drives (attached through two USB 2.0 powered hubs) and 3 Western Digital Firewire drives, and until last week all functioned absolutely normally. Last week the desktop icon for one (just one!) of the Firewire drives dissappeared, but the drive is still mounted in /Volumes. It is even correctly shared and can be remotelly accessed on another Mini and a MacBook. Disk Utility shows that it is mounted, and the Repair Disk function unmounts, checks, reports all is well and remounts. I'm just missing the icon in Finder.  Where is it?
Before you suggest it.... Yes, hard disks is checked under Finder Devices preferences. All the other drives do show as expected in both the root folder view and on the Finder sidebar. This one drive is mounted and visible in ls -ls /Volumes, but missing from desktop, root folder and sidebar in Finder.

I am having the exact issue with both 10.8.5 and 10.9.1 servers.
The server is doing well and then one day without notice or failure the desktop icon for the shared volume is gone. The share remains mounted and available to users. The volume is not showing damaged or any other problem. The volume can be found in terminal and by doing a finder go to the /Volumes area and all is there. But, even though disk utility shows it mounted and all else is good, Server app then starts to loose the volume for maintenance and propogation etc, it still shares but can't be seen or touched by GUI's.
I also was easily able to get back all through Backups that were up to date so no data loss, but this is quite disconcerting.
One possible variable is that both that I have seen are software RAIDs (Disk Utility raids).
If anyone has any thoughts I appreciate it.
The two servers are Mac Pro 2012 4 core 10.8.5 server and Mac Pro 2008 early 4 core 10.9.1 server.
    Thanks MDB

  • Volume icon missing on taskbar

How can I reload the volume icon to the taskbar

    Hi:
You can try to re-enable it from the sounds & audio devices option in your control panel.
Click on Sounds and Audio Devices (or Hardware & Sound) in the control panel, and then if the enable volume icon is checked, uncheck it, click apply, OK. Then go ahead and check it again. Click Apply, OK, and see if the icon reappears.

    Hi there ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having problems with the Volume Icon disappearing. I am happy to help. Please post the full product number and operating system in use on your notebook. See the following, if you need help with that information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit? Once I have that I can find the support page and drivers. Normally I would suggest that you start by downloading the latest audio driver, removing the existing audio driver. Restart your system and then install the new audio driver and see if the situation is the same or not. This is to check whether there is some corruption of the driver. Once I have that model/OS information I can help you through it.

  • Sys Pref Desktop/Screensaver Icon missing

The Desktop/Screen Saver Icon is missing in my System Preferences Icon on the dock. In the screen saver folder everything is still there. I've tried the Tech Tool download without success. I tried entering the Time Machine and replacing the System Preferences Icon but that didn't bring back the missing icon. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Perform a custom install from the Mac OS X 10.5 disk and install only that component if possible; if not, use Pacifist to install it. In either case, run the combo updater for your Mac OS X version afterward.

  • Apple Remote Desktop Toolbar Icons Missing

    http://gallery.me.com/paulhaberle#100006
I have Apple Remote Desktop under OS 10.6.6.
I recently reinstalled it because I stopped getting report data from my workstations.
But now the ARD toolbar is missing icons.
How do I get them back without damaging my ARD database?
I can still use ARD okay and I am getting my report data but it's an aesthetic thing.
I have attached a link to a photo to show you what I see.
My worry is that if I reinstall Apple Remote Desktop again, the database repsonsible for the data reporting will be lost.
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Paul

Thank you Brian for the reply.
However when I see the Customize Toolbar options, I see missing icons there too. The options to display Text or Icons or Small Icons or Icons with Text makes no difference.
It looks like Apple Remote Desktop is missing  the resources containing the icons.
My present Toolbar has a mixture of text and icons with text showing.
My Dock shows ARD as a white application icon, not the usual binoculars with Desktop.
    I am running ARD v. 3.4.

  • Volume icon missing

Hi, my volume/speaker icon on my top toolbar keeps disapearing, when i restart it fixed the problem, but every a few days it dispears again.  there is no sound issue. I can hear sound from speaker. It's just the icon.
    Anyone else has/had this issue?

    If that doesn't work, consider
    (1) A third party software menu bar item causing this problem.
    (2) delete all plist files with com.apple.systemuiserver in the name inside the folders
    ~/Library/Preferences
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost
    Log out and log in.

  • Camera Icon Missing. Search says Volume  is missing.

Luckily, I've been problem free for quite a while, so hope I'm in the right discussion group. (Please re-direct me if I'm not.)
My Minolta Dimage XI Camera (now owned by Sony) requires ejecting of the camera icon before shutting the camera. My iMac was working fine yesterday, but must have had too much going on simultaneously, because it froze and I had it restart in the middle of a photo project. Lost all the unsaved images, but was able to recapture them;actually opened automatically when I went to 'Open File.") But when I tried to turn off the camera in order to retake some shots in another room, the camera icon was missing. Manual says turning it off without ejecting can damage the camera, but sometimes a girl's gotta' do what she's gotta' do, and in the past I've ignored that instruction and been lucky. But also know I need to correct the problem.
After spending 2 hours online unsuccessfully with a Minolta rep in Manilla, he finally advised me to contact Apple with the following info: (1) I'm able to acccess existing photos in the camera via Photoshop, so connection between camera and iMac is OK and computer recognizes the photos. (2) Search for "Minolta" led to what looked like the icon, but clicking on it reported that it was an alias and "volume" as missing. (3) Have already manually searched every folder but there's no sign of the either the volume or the icon. (4) With help of Minolta technician tried to reset the camera settings, but they were OK and did not need resetting.(5) Reinitializing did to restore preferences did not help either.
The only thing I have not tried yet (because most of the day was spent looking for the icon) was Disk First Aid. If there's any chance it can restore a missing "volume" I will try it. Any other suggestions or advice will be much appreciated. I'd hate to lose the camera or destroy all the photos on it if I can avoid it. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

You may have to go through the process of re-installing
the camera's software into the computer and hope the
files you have moved, or ones that have gone missing,
will return and work later on if the camera software gets
a fresh install into the system.
You have to "unmount" the equivalent of a disk from the
    computer's desktop, prior to unplugging the physical item;
or there could be file damages to the data within it. By not
doing so, the files have been damaged. You can unmount
a disk icon or memory card icon by Eject, or drag/drop/Trash.
Same thing if you have an external hard disk drive attached.
{One of my cameras is a Nikon DSLR and I can remove
the card if desired and use a card reader, but usually I
don't do that; and instead just turn on the camera. The
other camera I have is a Panasonic Lumix (early FZ-1)
& while I also have a card reader for that, I don't use it.
Since the batteries (three per camera) need cycling and
    recharging at some point anyway, I seldom use a reader.}
Usually, if the computer is accidentally turned off and a
peripheral item such as a camera or external hard disk
drive is left attached but not unmounted, the process of
just turning back on the computer (and do NOT unplug
the peripheral item) will let the Mac find that item again
and it will work correctly, when the Mac reboots. And a
sleeping Mac should not matter, just do not unplug the
camera connections while it is asleep; it should be seen
again normally when the computer awakens.
    Some cameras with a +wireless connection+ to a computer
would lose the connection when either the camera or
computer were turned off without un-mounting the icon
or the representative file of the camera from the desktop.
Using Eject, or drag/drop icon on to Trash, is the path.
You may not have to un-install the existing camera software
    from the computer in order to re-install the same items again;
in some cases, since the OS X may have a few of the same
series drivers already installed, (plug n play works fine for me)
you'd only defeat the existing compatibility if one removed that.
I'm not sure how you could restore the camera's representative
icon, but if the software in the camera were damaged where it
is stored (not in the camera memory card you could remove)
the item may be stored in the camera's Firmware. It may be
possible to restore the camera's firmware, if that is the case.
This is an item the manufacturer or their representative may be
able to answer questions about: If the missing icon is something
that could be due to damaged firmware, or not. And if so, how to
restore it. Even a good camera shop (repair shop) may have a
few answers, especially if they happen to also use Mac computers.
Anyway, the link to get a free image restore utility is still a good
thing. Even if you don't need it to resolve this issue, today. It is
also capable of restoring some other data files, btw.
The damaged file in software could be in the installed camera
drivers in the computer, and there may also be some damage
or corrupted files in the camera itself. Whether or not those are
in the camera's memory card or on some ROM chip inside the
camera (such as Firmware would likely be) is another matter.
If you have a CD for the camera and it has Mac OS X driver
software for the camera on it, you could try re-installing it.
Or, you could look to the manufacturer's web site for newer
camera driver software and download that; then install it.
Be sure it does not supersede your Mac's OS requirement.
    A 'most new driver' would be for Leopard or Snow Leopard;
and your old Tiger probably would be unhappy with that.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Sharepoint Volume Icons on Desktop - How to?

    Hi All,
I have a few XP Windows boxes, a Tiger box, and a new Snow Leopard box connect to an Xserve (Tiger Server) and Xserve RAID. With the XP and Tiger boxes, I was able to automount the shared Tiger Server/RAID volumes at login...on the Tiger box, the AFP Volumes appear on the desktop (added as login items) and on the XP boxes, just drive mapped the volumes. Well, with the Snow Leopard box, I added the volumes as login items, but I can't seem to get a simple AFP volume icon on the desktop - when logging in, the volumes are mounted and opened as windows in the finder.
Any way to get icons for the volumes to appear on the desktop as was possible in Tiger?
    Thanks!

go to finder preferences->general and check the box to show connected servers on the desktop.

  • Airplay Icon missing from iTunes 11.0.2.26 (PC) and Genius Sidebar

After upgrading to iTunes 11.0.2.26 my Airplay icon is missing. I've tried the simple fix that reportedly works where you switch to mini player, see the Airplay icon and then it stays when you switch to normal mode.
Firstly the icon does appear but it is grayed out and only pops up a volume control. It does not detect, display, or allow you to select output devices, Second, it is still missing from the normal size window.
This has been tried with and without restarting iTunes as well as reinstalling iTunes. I'd go for a downgrade but then it fails to work with the new iPads at all. I discovered that with my first iPad mini where it required an iTunes upgrade.
    Genious Sidebar
I figured Id just downgrade to 10.6.3 to get the genius sidebar back afterwards. WRONG, it will not synch or do anything without the newer versions of the iTunes software. Genius sidebar was the best thing about the software and they kept taking it away, brought it back for a few versions, then took it away again. It was and remains my favorite way to shop for new music. The remaining so called genius functions are just plain lame.
Airplay Icon Missing from Itunes on PC
I can hit my Airplay devices such as Apple TV and Zeppelin Air with iPads, iPods, and iPhones. Just not from the PC Console where is previously enjoyed it the most. So I know the devices are fine. They are all on the same physical wired and wireless network. Even when I put the Zeppelin on the wired LAN there is no Airplay icon in iTunes on the PC.

Hi. just want to tell you i had the same problem Ipad--->tv working ok iphone---->tv also working ok pc home sharing not working and airplay icon in itunes 11.0.2.26 is missing. iam running windows 7 64bit
NOW! i can tell you in my case it was nothing to do with your router or antyvirus ip connection.
my pc is auto updating every sunday and icon has disappeared on monday i realized this fact and i have started uninstalling windows updates one by one after each uninstall i have restarted PC each time always run itunes and check if airplay icon is back. AND THER SHE WAS fiew windows updates uninstalled and icon is back in itunes
Now i can not remember what Update it was KB28 ..... something i didnt wright it down at the time i hope this will help someone.

  • HT4085 The volume icon won't leave the screen and I can't seem to reset the volume. Does anyone know how to fix this?

My iPad2 will not clear the volume icon from the screen no matter what I do. I've reset the ipad and nothing I do will make that icon go away and I can no longer control the volume. Am I missing something here, or does this warrant a trip to the Apple store?

The volume icon on the screen means that the pad thinks you are pressing the volume rocker on the side.   Make sure that it is not being pressed by a case, or a dent, or anything else.  Make sure it rocks back and forth freely without getting stuck.
If it moves freely, and if you have already done a full reboot, then a trip to the store may be in order.

  • [solved] Gnome/GTK icons missing

    Hey,
yet another icon missing topic, but I didn't find anything similar to my problem in this forum.

As you can see, icons are missing not only in the gnome menu, but also
in firefox (gtk app). Therefore, I think the problem is more related to GTK?!
Yes, I tried serveral icon themes and engines, no success.
    1. Anyone out there who got the same problem?
Because laptop and desktop have the same issue.
    2. Any further information about this issue?
    3. Any suggestions/advices?
    Thanks in advance,
