  • Windows 2008 R2 group policy not applied to windows 8 Workstations, but applied to XP and Win 7

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Domain Controllers and have a Policy to put a specify wallpaper, eventuality i have to change the Wallpaper, this setting applied sucesfully in Windows xp and Windows 7 workstations, but not applied in Windows 8 workstations even
    if i run gpupdate /forcé,
    Best Regards,
    Thank you

    Hi,
Thanks for posting in the forum.
Before going further, would you please let me know how did you configure the Group Policy setting to deploy the wallpaper? Have you configured some settings to limit the scope the GPO applying?
If all Windows 8 machines failed to receive the GPO settings? In order to narrow down the cause of the issue, I suggest we could try to collect the following information for troubleshooting.
    GPMC.log
    ==================
    a. On domain controller, click Start ->Run, type GPMC.MSC, it will load the GPMC console.
    b. Right click on "Group Policy Result" and choose wizard to generate a report for the problematic computer and user account (please place appropriately). (Choose computer and select the proper
    user in the wizard)
    c. Right click
the resulting group policy result and click the "Save Report…" => save report to save the report to a HTML file.
Once we get the report, please check if the settings have been applied to the target correctly.
In addition, would you please let me know whether you have imported the latest Windows 8 Administrative Templates to the Windows Server 2008 DC? If not, please try to download and import it.
Then try to configure the wallpaper GPO settings again to see if it could help.
For details, please refer to the following articles.
Administrative Templates (.admx) for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012

  • Group policy is not applying in windows 8

There is different behavior on Windows 7 and Windows 8 on desktop wallpaper. In Windows 7, when we log into the system,
the cached wallpaper file will re-generated  automatically.
But in Windows 8, if the wallpaper path didn’t change, the cached wallpaper will not re-generate.
After I deleted below file and log off/log on I can see the desktop wallpaper automatically changed on Windows 8.
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\TranscodedWallpaper
So I think you can apply this deletion operation to the domain controller as a log
off and shut downscript, the script which is as below.
(you can also write a .bat file by yourself and the content is :del
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\TranscodedWallpaper)
Any solution on a doamin area pcs is not changing wallpaper by default in windows 8 i do the above but it applies only for a client machine. i want this to all windows 8 pcs in domain...

    please check this
try this. Run regedit and navigate to the following key in the Registry Editor:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
Right click on Policies > New > KEY > name it as ActiveDesktop.
Next in the right side, right-click > New > DWORD > name it as
    NoChangingWallPaper.
The DWORD value 1 will restrict change in desktop wallpaper. To
allow change give it value as 0.
    Reboot.

  • GPP for Folder Options Not Applying to Windows 7 Current Users

I have a Windows 7 client that I am trying to push a GPP for a folder option. The setting is "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items".
If a user has already logged into the machine before the policy applied, it will not change the setting.
If a brand new user logs into the machine, the policy is applied.
On users that have logged in previosu to the policy, I can go to the Group Policy folder, check the history folder and I am showing that it is applied in the XML file.
    Things I have verified:
Setting is for Windows Vista and Later
Same results on different Windows 7 PCs
Set to run in logged on user context
Apply once and not reapply is NOT checked.
Can anyone help shed some light on this?
    Thanks!

    Hi JiuJitsuJeff,
Sorry for misunderstanding this issue. This GPP for folder option could apply to new users sucessfully, however, could not apply to old users sucessfully. Right?
Firstly, please check if the GPO has applied to old users. You can also run  the following command on the problematic workstation when an old user logs on:
Gpresult /h > C:\temp\gpresult.html  (“C:\temp\” is the path of the gpresult.html, you can set it yourself). This gpresult.html file is used for checking the result of Group Policy information.
If the GPO setting has been applied according to the result of Gpresult, please check if the value of corresponding registry key has been modified. The corresnponding registry key is shown as following:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced: ShowInfoTip
If the value is 1, this means the value has been modified. Vice versa.

  • Desktop Software will not open in WIndows 7 64 bit

    Hello
I have downloaded versions 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and 6.1 of BlackBerry Desktop SOftware separately and after uninstalling the version I set up. In each case set up goes fine and a shortcut comes up and I select to start automatically after the setup, but when the program starts it hangs on the bb logo and goes no further. It is not even listed in the Task Manager as running. The same happens when I double click on the shortcut. I try running it in all the compatibility modes from WIndows XP SP 3 to Vista SP2 and the program just hangs without opening. I clean my Registry and I run the same downloaded program (transfer via flash drive) on another computer running WIndows vista SP 2 and it opens perfectly on that other computer so the downloaded fiel is fine.. I do not have another windows 7 64 bit computer to try to see if there is something on my computer that is causing the problem. Help!

    Hello
I am using a Windows 7 64 bit computer which is why i said , "I do not have another windows 7 64 bit computer to try to see if there is something on my computer". The fact that it worked on yours suggests there is something on my computer that is causing the problem. Did you run it as administrator and in Window 7 compatibility mode, or as downloaded (which is Windows XP SP 3 by default)?
    Thanks

  • Group Policy Administrative Templates not applying on Windows XP SP3 - Windows Server 2008 R2

I have a Windows 2008 R2 domain with windows 7, and Windows XP SP3 client workstations.
I have a group policy to deny all access to removable storage in policies/administrative templates/system in user configuration (actually its in the computer configuration as well)
The problem is the policy is having no effect on the Windows XP machines. It works perfectly on Windows 7 machines.
Group policy in general is working on the Windows XP machines, as I can successfully map drives, push out scheduled tasks, and push out printers. (All preferences I know and I have GP Preferences client side extensions installed).
Its almost like the windows XP machines can't "understand" the admin templates from Windows Server 2008 R2.
Do I need to install something on the windows XP machines? What could be the problem?

    > Its almost like the windows XP machines can't "understand" the admin
    > templates from Windows Server 2008 R2.
Simply read the "supported on" of these settings... Vista and above
    required.

  • Remote Desktop my Mac at home from Windows at work?

    Hi all,
I was wondering how I could access my Mac (Leopard) that's running at home using Windows (XP) that I use at work. I know this is possible, but I wasn't sure how. What software do I use? How do I configure it? How do I make sure it's secure?
    I appreciate any help.

Never mind, I found the appropriate section for this sort of question.
For anyone with a similar question, head over to the forum for Apple Remote Desktop (ARD). FYI, I managed to connect with the built-in ARD (apparantly for Tiger and above) and used TightVNC on Windows to connect.

    Hi!
You may want to take a look at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-install-firefox-windows-8-touch
I would assume the options to switch into it would be the same. I can't confirm though since I don't run Windows 8.

  • Windows 8.1 - Security policies not applying

    Hi All,
I'm having a bit of an issue with group policy settings not applying on Windows 8.1. Most of the policies are applying as they should but for some
reason certain security settings (Password policy, Account lockout policy, Interactive logon message etc.) are not.
I can see from GPResult that the policy is not filtered out and can confirm that some of the settings from the policy are getting applied!
FYI: The DC is WS2003 and we have not imported the Windows 8.1 ADMX templates... Could that be causing the issue?
Any help you guys might be able offer would be greatly appreciated!

As I know, Security policy like Password policy, Account lockout policy, Interactive logon message should work even the DC is Win Server 2003.
I suggest you check whether these policy are overridden by other GPOs due to the the GPO Priority, you can find detailed information in this link

  • Nautilus: no desktop wallpaper

    hello!
i don't find a solution to this weird and annoying problem.
when i try to set a desktop wallpaper i only see the background color, no wallpaper is shown.
the really funny thing is: when i drag a picture to the desktop with middle mouse button and select "set as background" the wallpaper fades in and directly out again.
i tried to create a new user account, same problem. reinstalling nautilus or searching the gconf settings didn't help.
this problem appeared after i switched back from xfce to gnome... i googled and searched this forum , but didn't find a solution. don't know how i can find out what's the problem. maybe some missing library or broken package? does nautilus set the wallpaper with an external tool? can i start nautilus somehow in verbose mode?
    (nautilus 2.30.1)
    thanks,
    joschi

    Hi,
Before going further, as suggested by Martin in the following thread, I need to further confirm whether users can open the wallpaper file. Besides, we need
to check whether the "Wallpaper" value exists in this registry path
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
Black Desktop wall paper after implementing group policy

Moreover, for Windows 7 clients, we can try installing the hotfix also mentioned in the above thread to see whether it can work.
The "Desktop Wallpaper" Group Policy setting is not applied in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

  • WDS Global XML File | Could Not Apply PE Boostrap Error?

I setup a 2012 Server for the purpose of using WDS to deploy images via PXE.  I am having a problem with a specific Global Unattend XML file (attached to the WDS server, not a specific image).  I have been able to image via PXE with other global

  • Photoshop elements 10 set as desktop wallpaper function is flawed

when I right mouse click a picture in organizer to "set as desktop wallpaper" it sets the picture on the desktop as 4x3 only nopt 16x9 or widescreen.
If I select the same pic anywhere else it can be set as a widescreen desktop wallpaper, but NOT in Photoshop elewments 10

    Hi,
    This is weird.
I'm using PSE 10 on a Win 7 system and when I select Set as Desktop Wallpaper I get the following results on a 16:9 monitor:
    1) Image cropped to 16:9 aspect ratio - full screen, no black border
    2) Image cropped to 4:3 aspect ratio - no black borders top or bottom, only left and right
    3) Image cropped to 3:4 aspect ratio - no black borders top or bottom, only left and right
The fact that 2 & 3 are the same is not what I expected.
I am one of the old school that grew up with CRT monitors so I have a selection of images that change regularly so as not to burn into the tube - doesn't matter these days of LCD monitors but it's nice to have the picture change now and then.
    Brian
