Desktop wallpaper resets on reboot
Hi All i have an Intel I7 Mac Mini running the latest version of Mavericks.
The problem is that if i set a desktop wallpaper of my choosing the picture defaults to the Mavericks Wave Image on reboot.
If i just put the mac to sleep then everything is fine when it awakes my chosen wallpaper is still there.
But if i reboot my wallpaper selection is replaced by the Mavericks Wave image.
Any ideas
Try to delete com.apple.desktop.plist from Preferences folder into your user library.
While you have the Finder's "GO" menu open, press "Option" : a Library item will appear in the list – That's the one that has the .plist in its Preferences folder. Delete the file
Then close your current session, and restart it. You'll always have the "wave" wallpaper.
Change the wallpaper, then shut down your computer and restart it.
Empty the trash in secure mode to delete the old .plist file
It has worked for me

White flash - desktop wallpaper reset
MacBook Pro 6,2 - i7 2.66GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM. I have recently noticed that when I open certain applications (esp After Effects), the screen flashes white then my desktop wallpaper is miraculously reset to a solid blue wallpaper. I then need to go into sys prefs and change the wallpaper. Sometimes even this doesn't work and I have to log off and logon to be able to change the wallpaper.
well, often times, any hint you can give as to what you're trying to do can help get your problem solved. Excuse me for ask for clarification about exactly what you were trying to do.
If you're not willing to give clarification for things like this, then you might as well not ask the questions. These sorts of questions waste your time and ours. I don't even know why I'm wasting my time telling you this, it's something that should be pretty obvious to you.
I believe Windows can display this screen saver because it can display web pages as backgrounds, but it doesn't appear that OS X is able to do this. -
MBP Retina Desktop Wallpaper resets after restart
Earlier this week I got my new MBP 15" Retina, and completed a clean installation of applications from my old MBP.
This morning I had to install and update and for the first time had to restart the computer. After restarting the origional wallpaper shows on login.
After login and going into Desktop & Screen Saver Settings it shows the proper desktop image.
Steps Completed:
1) Problem only occurs on Restart or Shut Down. A Log Off will maintain the correct wallpaper.
2) Tried changing to Standard Desktop Picture or an iPhoto gallery photo.
3) Unlocked '/Users/scottdavis/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist' made wallpaper change (it changes date modified). Restart. Did not resolve.
4) Tested the same process on MBP 17" Early 2008, works correctly.
5) Running OSX 10.8.2 - completed MBP Update 2.0 (is where I had to restart)Hi all,
I have had this same issue with OS X Lion and it continued on to OS X Mountain Lion as well. I have had the wallpaper switching on me to the default solid blue color whenever I restarted (every month or so) and when switching between users (every other day or so). So this issue was very frustrating having to go back in and reset the wallpaper to my preference whenever I switched to either user. I found a solution that has been working for me for several restarts and several switching of users now:
First, I took some of your advice by locating all of my wallpapers into a 'Wallpaper' folder located in each user's 'Documents' directory. I copied to same wallpapers to each user so both user's have the same wallpapers to choose from.
Then, I installed the latest stable version of 'OnyX' (freeware software). I used OnyX on both user accounts to run through practically all the settings to clean up the entire Mac (Mac Mini, mid 2011) including: Verify [S.M.A.R.T. Status, Structure of volume, and Preferences], Maintenance [Permissions], Cleaning [System cache, User cache, Internet cache, Fonts cache, Log cache, Misc. cache]. I generally left the default checked boxes alone and didn't change any settings and Executed the program to run as default.
After running OnyX, I re-set my wallpapers for each user and went ahead and tested the restarting of the computer and switching back and forth between users. It was very easy to duplicate the bug previously, but now I could not get the wallpaper to switch back to the default blue as before. Everything seems stable with my wallpaper selection now.
Hope this helps someone. Thanks everyone for your input too.
As a side note, my Mac is running much smoother and quicker now too. =) -
MBP Retina Black Desktop keeps resetting
I am having a problem with my new Macbook Pro Retina. Every time I turn on the computer, the desktop wallpaper resets itself to a black backround. Once I open the wallpaper chooser and choose the galaxy or any other default wallpapers, it sets the background to that, but the second I reboot the machine, I lose that background. Has anyone else ever had that problem with OSX Lion, or have a potential fix for it?
Hey kubedzero!
Yeah, I've unfortunatly come across the same problem, as has some other buyers of the Macbook Retina! (Never come across this issue before) The solution for me, was to create a new adminstrator account, and delete the old one. However, I'm still having issues with keeping my folders in the desktop folder. I am only able to keep one folder. Once I choose a new folder I want to choose my backgrounds from, the other folder dissappears. Though technically, this shouldn't be an issue for such an expensive and powerfull machine, I'm not going to dwell futher on that minor issue, since I don't change my laptopscreen every two seconds
I hope this will help your issue, and please, do comment if you experience the same folder issue, as me!

Desktop wallpaper on external drive not retained after reboot
Hi all,
On rebooting my Late '12 iMac, the desktop wallpaper always reverts back to the default Yosemite one. The wallpaper is stored in a folder on my USB 3.0 ext drive, and when the desktop appears the icon is there for the external drive and ai can browse and re-set the wallpaper.
Also, possibly related, I have an icon for Steam on my Dock, which becomes a question mark upon reboot as if Yosemite can no longer find the app. Steam is also stored externally. However like above, I can click the icon and the Mac is able to see and launch steam no problems, and the question mark then reverts back to the steam icon.
The iMac has been upgraded by myself so that internal drive is a Samsung Evo 840 SSD. As crazy as it sounds I almost think that the Mac is booting (which takes around 6 seconds from grey Apple to logon screen) faster than it is reading the external drive. But what is weirder is that the logon screen has a blurred version of the correct wallpaper behind it, which flicks the default Yosemite one when I login.
Any ideas?dannytheone wrote:

It doesn't actually sound crazy, except for the thing with the blurred wallpaper which does sound odd. The easy way to test it would be to move your preferred wallpaper to your boot drive to see if it loads at boot. I'm assuming it will. In my limited testing of Yosemite, the wallpaper choice sticks, as it should, but it's on my boot drive.
Have you noticed if the problem of drives being improperly ejected when system wakes from sleep has been corrected in Yosemite? -
By mistake I disconnected my iPod (5th generation) when it said Do not disconnect. Now it doesn't appear in iTunes, but it does appear on my desktop. How can I get to reappear in iTunes? I have tried resetting and rebooting. And my iTunes is up to date on my macbook pro, mountain lion, OS X 10.8.
Thank you!The iPod's filesystem may be corrupted. This may seem like overkill, but it has been known to help many others in the same boat. Try doing a low level reformat of the iPod's hard disk using the instructions in this article.

Mountain Lion desktop wallpaper won't change!
Hi guys,
Hope somone can help with this, it's been bugging me ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion!
Whenever I change the desktop wallpaper with any of the ones provided on my Mac and reboot my laptop it reverts back to the original wallpaper that was set back during Lion (OS X 10.7) before the upgrade. I'm currently running the latest update (10.8.1) on my MacBook Pro Retina and still having the same problem!

New Macbook Pro Retina keeps changing desktop wallpaper
Every time i turn on my macbook the desktop wallpaper has resets to its original wallpaper that it uses when you turn on the mac when you first buy it. I have tried changing it to one of the provided wallpapers in the system preferences and ones from my iPhoto but it still changes back to the default wallpaper when i turn it off and on.
Its a brand new macbook pro with retina display, I've only had it 2 weeks. Does anyone now how to fix this or is it a fault with the mac?

Annoying desktop wallpaper issues
Lately i'm having issues with my wallpaper on my macbookpro. The state of my wallpaper now is white, just white nothing else. I try and apply a new image but it doesnt seem to do anything. Whenever i reboot my mbp, my old wallpaper images displays for a couple of seconds until osx is fully loaded but then goes back to white. I use a secondry monitor as well, but it displays images, just not the screen on my mbp. The mmp works perfecly, nothing else wrong with it (touch wood) just this really annoying desktop wallpaper issue!
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.Ok it seems to of been a wee app called instantshot that was the culprit.

I have a late 2009 iMac with an external display running Lion. I have 4 desktop spaces each with specific applications. Since upgrading, I've changed my desktop wallpaper a few times (I like to change it with the seasons) and there has never been a problem. Last night I changed the wallpaper on my main screen and went about my business. When I switched spaces, the wallpaper in that space was the previous one. When I opened Mission Control, it showed me that only one space's wallpaper had been changed and the rest were the old image. I went through each space and changed the wallpaper (which was annoying because System Preferences doesn't move with the spaces, so I'd have to change the image, quit Preferences, change spaces, open Preferences, etc.). After I did that, I changed spaces again and suddenly the wallpaper on my external display was the stock galaxy image instead of the leaves image that has been there for over a month. I figured there must be some kind of glitch so I restarted. After the restart, the external display's wallpaper was set to that stock galaxy image on all of the spaces. It's strange that this suddenly started happening without any kind of software update. Has anyone else experienced this?
where do you have your wallpapers stored? you may find that having them on an external drive might make them not appear on startup (could be a sign of a failing HD), which will then make the mac revert back to the factory settings.
Try this, if your wallpapers are on your Mac HD (making my previous suggested null and void).
go to system prefereces>spotlight, then click Privacy. Hit the plus button at the bottom of the white window with things that you've set private. Find where your wallpapers are stored and add it to the privacy list. Now select that same drive you just added and remove it from the privacy list. This will make spotlight reindex that folder and you will hopefully have your wallpapers back. You may have to reset them.
also, next time you do the major switching, instead of closing System Preferences and reopening them constantly, you can right click system prefernces icon (when on the dock) and choose options>All Desktops.
This way, the application window will follow you going to the different spaces. unclick the setting when you don't want it to do that anymore. -
How do I set the desktop wallpaper with an image in aperture 3?
Sorry for the silly question, but I can't find how to set my desktop wallpaper with an image in aperture 3. It was simple when using Iphoto, but I can't find the method in aperture.
Thanks,
Dale.Command(⌘)-9 is no longer listed in the list of default keyword shortcuts, and it has no effect.
I wrote a little Automator service to bring the Command(⌘)-9 back.
A copy of this service is here for download:
http://dreschler-fischer.de/scripts/SetDesktopPicture.workflow.zip
This service uses three actions:
Aperture: Get selected images
Export Masters
Finder: Set the Desktop Picture
To install it, open the workflow in Automator and save it as service.
To use it, select any image in Aperture, then activate the service from the Aperture menu -> Services, and it will set the master of the selected image as Desktop picture.
If you like, you can assign the Command(⌘)-9 key to the service (in the System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts Panel) and then turn any image you selected into Desktop wallpaper by simply pressing (⌘)-9.
@Frank Caggiano, if you are still following this thread: for some reason this workflow succeeds with exporting the master, but I could not get it to work with the versions instead. Any ideas?
Caution: this service will clutter the Desktop with the exported images. If you want to avoid that, change the export action to export the image to a different folder.

My 4th Gen iPod Touch won't open up the apps I've downloaded. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app and it seems to only be a temporary fix. The reset and reboot didn't work either. Help would be appreciated.
In more specific terms. The apps that came on the iPod like the weather and maps and whatnot have been working flawlessly. It's just when I download an app and then disconnect from wifi it's almost like I'm on a timer until the app stops working. It acts like it wants to open, the screen flashes black then resets to the home pages. I've tried all of the basic fixes, rebooting, reseting, uninstalling then reinstalling. But like in my...long...question, the reinstalling option only seems to be a temporary fix. I just recently downloaded the 5.1.1 udate (I think that's what it was) does that have anything to do with it, or am I just derpy when it comes to iPods?Try the other suggestions here:

Dear MS Support,
We have applied one newly designed Desktop Wallpaper for all our computers in GAVS. It is not working in win 7 and it works in Win XP and in Win 8.
I have searched in Microsoft forums and they mentioned to install one hotfix. I tried to install and it is not working..
Our Group Policy and working and I can able to see the wallpaper path in my registry settings..
Kindly help me to fix this issue..
Given below the hotfix url…

After you applied the policy, what wallpaper will the Desktop of Windows 7 change to? Is it a solid colour desktop? If not, The Hotfix should not work in this case.
Here is a very good troubleshooting guide for Wallpaper Group Policy.

Windows 8.1 Desktop wallpaper not shown if Explorer is not running
Hi,
I set wallpaper image using registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"Wallpaper"="C:\\Windows\\Web\\Wallpaper\\Windows\\img0.jpg"
Problem is that I need to show wallpaper WITHOUT explorer running.
W7 and W8: If explorer is running, wallpaper is shown correctly.
W8: If I end task "Windows Explorer" via task manager, wallpaper disappear and only blank (dark blue) screen is shown.
W7: If I end task explorer.exe wallpaper is still shown.
Anyone knows how to show a image without explorer running on Windows 8?
Regards,
Tomas RybaHello Tomas Ryba,
After lots of test and research, I still can’t find a solution to meet this requirement.
I tried to use the process monitor to capture the registry and process activity in Windows 8 and Windows 7, but can’t find the resolution.
I think this setting is by design.
