Desktop wired keyboard keycaps

http://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/servlet/the-19502/Apple-iMac-Keyboard-Key/D etail
I saw this and I noticed there are two keycap types.
I have an older apple wired keyboard and two new ones. I noticed they feel quite differnet. The old one is much clickier and both of these two new keyboards are much more silent and require more force. I don't like the new ones since they require a noticible amount of more force.
Anyone else notice this? My old apple wired keyboard is about two years old and it's not due to use. All the keys are lcicky, even the ones I don't use often like the home key.

does the wired keyboard work in another computer?
it should work ok with windows computers too if you don't have a mac to test with
if the keyboard does not then likely the keyboard is defect

  • Brand New iMac and wired keyboard not working

I just bought a new iMac.The wired keyboard seems to work, the mouse is plugged into the keyboard and that works, and I can, somewhat make changes to the volume and other small changes. The ESC key works (I can turn off VoiceOver)but... I can not even get the computer up and going. I can not put in my name or other registration information.
Any ideas if the keyboard has some kind of other settings that I need to turn off. There is no software or anything else in the Mac that I know of. It is brand new and just arrived today.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm so sorry. I know this a bummer. But better to take it back. When you take it in, if they boot it and get it to work, make sure and shut down the iMac, wait about ten seconds and press the power button. Make sure it boots to the Desktop and that your keyboard functions as it should. Just make absolutely sure it works before you bring it back home. In fact, since you could not get through the registration process, perhaps they will go through that with you since had problems with it. Something isn't communicating between the iMac and the keyboard. Could be the USB ports, software/hardware ... hopefully they'll repair it to your satisfaction or replace it.

  • With a wired keyboard and a 2014 iMac I cannot select multiple items which are not next to each other

I have recently changed from Windows 7 desktop to a new iMac running Mavericks.  I have chosen a wired keyboard as I like  the usual Delete key function.
I cannot find out how to select several items which are not next to each other (e.g. words in Pages).  The well known method in Windows, which is repeated in the the Apple Finder Help screen, does not work.  Would be grateful for advice

    Hi JBowfin,
If I am understanding your question correctly, I believe that I have an article that will address this question for you:

  • Impressions of new Apple wired keyboard?

I'm very seriously considering picking up the new wired keyboard. Planning on wired as it is for a desktop Mac and I prefer an extended keyboard.
The main reason I'm considering the new keyboard is that I am sick of cleaning all of the crap out of the keyboard that came with my G5. Too many open spaces in the design. The new keyboard looks like it should remmedy that problem substantially.
My question is, for those who have already got it, how does it feel? How responsive/noisy/etc. are the keys? Does it take some getting used to? Does it feel strange?
    Thanks.

    Hi Phil,
I got the new keyboard last week - and I opted for the wired version for exactly the same reason you mention. Likewise, I was sick of cleaning the crap out of the transparent keyboard.
Plus, the new keyboard finish also matches the G5 and Cinema Display. Result!!!
In use, the keyboard is great! It's a LOT quieter to use than the Lego-sounding previous offering. The keys are much softer to use and travel less distance. They really do feel like a laptop keyboard, but with the advantage of 'normal' size (apart from the return key) and spacing. If you look at what you're typing, like I do, (oh, to be able to touch-type!), the keys are visually easier to find with the area of metal surrounding the keys.
    I'm loving it.
But...you knew there had to be one, didn't you?
When you get the keyboard, you have to update the software (Keyboard Software Update 1.1) to make the keys work with the new functions. But not all the new functions work! Expose and dashboard keys do not work. (You can map another function key to do the Expose thing easy enough). I hope Apple will resolve this soon. (I'd have complained, but couldn't find an appropriate email address!)
Mentally, I'm having to remember that the media drawer key is in a new place, which is a tad annoying, but I'm sure I'll get used to it...
All in all, I'd say go for it!
    Paul
P.S. And PC users that have seen the keyboard have freaked!

  • Baffling Apple Wired Keyboard Issue

I have a new iMac (2012, 27"), which I elected to get a wired keyboard with, as I use the numeric keypad a lot.  I have an old iMac (2007) that has a similar keyboard.
Today, my new iMac crashed.  I have no idea what happened, but I plan on blaming Oracle's VirtualBox for sucking.  I had to do a hard reset (hold power button down until system turns off, then turn back on).  Everything came back OK (thankfully), except the brand new keyboard.  The iMac wouldn't detect it, got the message "No keyboard found" on the main screen and it started looking for a Bluetooth keyboard (which I don't have - I have the Bluetooth Magic Mouse, just not the keyboard).
Fortunately, my old iMac is right across the room, so I grabbed the wired keyboard from there, and plugged it in to the same USB port that the new keyboard was plugged in to, and everything is fine.
Here's the baffling part: I plugged the new keyboard into the old iMac and it works fine.  So, I swapped them back, no dice, keyboard AWOL again.
I've tried other USB ports on the new iMac, the new keyboard doesn't register anywhere.
The new keyboard works fine on the old iMac.
The old keyboard works fine on the new iMac.
I've tried rebooting the new iMac, still nothing.
The USB port on the new iMac clearly works, as I can run the old keyboard from it, and even other hardware like a hub, iPhone sync cable, etc.
What in the name of Jobs is going on?
Fundamentally, I'm fine, the old keyboard is in find condition, everything works, blah blah blah, I'm just stumped.  Stumped, I tell you!

Replying to myself with a bit more info.
On the left, the new keyboard attached to the old iMac (thanks, Remote Desktop), on the right, the old keyboard attached to the new iMac.  Clearly minor version changes between the two, but . . . what the heck?
I've now tried an SMC reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964) based on an old suggestion in another thread, and resetting the permissions (dunno why, it was part of the recommendation).  That hasn't worked.  The new keyboard doesn't even register in System Information when it's plugged in to the new iMac.
Yes, yes, First World Problems and all that, I just want to make sure there isn't some other issue I'm missing here.

  • Wired keyboard up arrow not working in finder

My keyboard has all of a sudden decided to, for lack of a better word, spaz out!
I have a 2011/2012 21.5 inch iMac (intel), with a wired keyboard (with numerical pad) and mouse. When I'm on the desktop (finder) and i select a folder, the up button on the keyboard moves 'down' (one folder) and then won't move again. The down button and sideways buttons work fine, and it appears all the other keys do to. When I go into a program like safari the up arrow works fine,  I can scroll pages up and down without a problem.
The issue first began when i was working in indesign, and I went to the text palette and tried to manually tap up the point size, but instead it opened the swatches palette, and I couldn't understand why the up key wasn't working. I quit indesign and as this was happening I was doing something in the finder and noticed the problem there too.
I shut down all the program's and restarted. This didn't work, so I came exploring on apple discussions. I rebooted the computer in safe mode but that didn't work either. I searched in library > preferences for a com.apple.finder.plist (as I saw this mentioned in some discussions) but there was no such file living in the preferences.
I'm really not sure what to do to rectify this.. If anyone could help that would be super awesome! Thanks in advance!
    Penny

Also, I forgot to add, that in iTunes and spotify the up button works, but as it does it makes that error-y sound as if it is not working (even though it is)

  • Cleaning Thin Mac Wired Keyboard

    Hello! xD
I am having issues with some of my keys sticking on my thin aluminum wired keyboard.
I am kind of afraid to pry the keys off since I'm not sure if I can get them back on. I have tried using a business card to clean under them but I think there is a bit of a large dust bunny under there or something! >~<
Has anyone been successful with taking the keys off and putting them back on? I've read some people accidentally snap off the plastic part that keeps it on the keyboard. So is there some kind of a trick? Any help would be awesome!
Thank you very much in advance! ≧ヮ≦

  • USB port power management issue on apple aluminium wired keyboard after upgrade to 10.8.5

    Hi there,
Since I upgraded my imac (late 2012) from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 today, i can't plug any usb flash drive, or my iPhone, to the USB port of the wired keyboard anymore; I have a power management message asking to plug the usb device to the imac directly!!
It was working perfectly just before the upgrade, is it a bug, any idea?

    FYI...
I tried reporting the bug but so far have had no luck being able to do so.
I went to the developer center as Eric suggested and signed in with my Apple ID.
Once there I clicked on "Bug Reporting".
That took me to a Bug Reporting page with the heading "Submitting Bugs and Feedback".
On the side of that page is a little box that says "Apple Bug Reporter: Sign in with the Apple ID you used to register as an Apple Developer to submit a bug."
(This step seems somewhat ridiculous since I had to sign in with my Apple ID just to get this far. Now it wants me to sign in again.)
When I click the  the "Sign in" button I get this:
An error has occurred. Please report the error to Apple Inc. by emailing the error detail to [email protected]
So, it seems the bug reporter doesn't work. This has been going on since the time of my last post here.

  • HT1343 if one is using windows 8.1 on a boot camped mac and you are using a mac keyboard . How does one unlock the numbers  on the larger wired keyboard ( numbers keys to the right of the keyboard) instead of having to use the numbers at the top of the ke

Question: I am using a mac , wired Keyboard, on  a windows 8.1 platform ( this is because I have boot camped my hard drive) Unfortunately when I change over from my mac set up into the windows 8.1 the key board does not behave like it does when I am using as a mac. The numbers , on the right of the keyboard , no longer function and I have to use the numbers at the top of the keyboard, very annoying. Can anybody let me know how I unlock the numbers on the right of my keyboard?
    Regards CM

I have stated every issue I’ve had so far in a fairly clear and concise way. I think if you read what I wrote, it all makes logical sense as to what is going on. Windows 7/8 would work just as well on a Mac if it was supported the same way the OS is for other OEMs.
As I stated earlier in the post, I’m having these same issues in windows 8, not just 8.1, which is the reason for the post. I know the difference between supported by drivers and not supported by the manufacturer. The fact that when Haswell mbp’s came out and no revision to bootcamp for the new hardware was released to fix issues with installing windows on the new hardware shows Apple clearly Is not supporting bootcamp as strongly as they advertise.
I am being realistic on Apple having drivers early. Anyone with an MSDN subscription can download the RELEASE version of windows months ahead of the actual release, I’m 100% sure if any average consumer can do that by paying $100 and saying they are a developer, apple can do it just as easily.
You aren’t much help, you haven’t answered really anything to my post, nor have you contributed any knowledge that wasn’t clearly posted above, so don’t say anything if you don’t have anything to contribute.
By the way, my rant is directed at apple, as you can see because I am saying “Apple, if you are going to…” because this is an Apple forum on Apple’s website. It is not directed to end users, clearly.

  • What are the dimensions of the Apple wired keyboard?

What are the dimensions of the Apple wired keyboard?

    K1
I am constantly amazed at our beloved Apple!
Not only lack of info, but SysReqs seem a bit restrictive? How can a plain ol' USB keyboard require OSX10.6 or better, yet NOT support USB3.0 AND require some Apple software driver update? [sound of exasperation -> sigh]
    best as always

  • Problem with ALT codes on Apple Wired Keyboard

May I just note, I have posted this in the "Boot Camp" forum, but run the normal Windows 7 on my computer. I was unable to find a forum purely for Apple hardware.
I am using a Apple Wired Keyboard (MB110B/B) -- British-bought -- on a Windows 7 PC, and I are having some issues with ALT codes. The array of symbols I have to type (pi, sigma, etc) becomes tiresome to insert via the Character Map (on Win7). Basically, entering "alt" (left handside) then 227 does not insert "π" but rather "Ò". alt + 228 (Σ) inserts õ
I don't know if this problem is common for Apple keyboard users on Windows, but is there a way to alter this.
    Thanks, Jordan.

For a third opinion, be cautious of using a dishwasher as the temperature can get pretty high. If the spill is on the 456 on the number pad, you can try holding the keyboard vertically, soak just that part in distilled water for several minutes to disolve the spill material. Run some denatured (rubbing) alcohol over the numpad, then dry with a hair dryer.
You could also try to remove the key caps...slip dental floss under the key caps in two loops, one from the top one from the bottom. Pull the key caps off one at a time, the wipe the area clean...see if there is any material sticking that needs to be cleaned off.
I do not know what keyboard you have or how it does the switching, but most keyboards today do not use mechanical switches. The switches are sealed capacitance switches so if you clean all the material from the keyboard it may work again.
Or, if you don't feel like going to this much trouble, a visit to your friendly Apple Retailer to purchase a new one may be a good idea.

  • Apple wired keyboard - certain keys not working with shift

I treated myself to a new Apple wired keyboard MB110B/A for my mac mini.
My previous keyboard worked fine, however the new keyboard causes the computer to enter the Hardware Test mode every time the computer is restarted. The computer only starts normally without the keyboard connected (or with my old keyboard connected).
Once the computer has started, if I plug the new keyboard in, it appears to work normally with the following exceptions. The following keys do not register when the "shift" key is pressed: 2, w, s, x. This fault does not occur with my old keyboard.
As these keys are in a line, I think there may be a wiring fault inside the keyboard. If so, would this explain the computer entering Hardware Test mode every time it is started with the keyboard connected?
    Thanks in advance.

Definitely sounds like a hardware fault in the keyboard to me. I assume it's the same whichever USB port it's connected to? (and if you plug it into another Mac, too)?
Of course, as that keyboard is glued together in final assembly, it's completely unrepairable.
If it's a reproducible fault (and new anyway): take/send it back for replacement. You shouldn't have any trouble with Apple arguing.

  • New Mac Mini-wired keyboard unresponsive

    Hello..
I just took my banrd new 2.6 ghz Mac Mini out of the box. I hooked up my Apple wired keyboard and mouse from my ~~2009 Mac Pro.  The mouse functions. The keyboard is not responding--It works fine on my Mac Pro.  All I have done so far is turn the computer on and it wants to know my Wifi network.  I can select the network with the mouse but cannot enter the password.  The keyboard appears to be dead.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated...
    Thanks
    Rocky

I have a feeling you've tried this already, but...
Try plugging the keyboard into a different USB port on the back of your Mini. Plug the mouse into a USB port on the back of the Mini, too; not into one of the USB ports that may or may not be on your keyboard.

  • Arrow keys on my wired keyboard don't work.  How do I fix these?

The four (4) arrow keys on my wired keyboard don't work.  How do I fix these?
Sorry, I came from a PC and am very new to the Mac.
    Thanks.

Did you check the long verticle silver button on the left side of the phone?  It is above the + & - Keys.  If it is pushed down, you will have no volume.  THis is a key to quickly shut off the volume if you forgot to trun it down during a meeting, funeral, etc.  If that is okay, go into settings and see if volume is turned on.  "vibrate" is no longer an option by itsself.
