Desktop won't power on/Green light will light up a little/fan spins a little?

Trying to help a friend, with an HP computer. Forgot to get the model number. It won't start up, I can momentarily get the green light on the power supply to go on, and the fan runs momentarily. It won't start up.
Would you think it was the power supply or the motherboard? Any Suggestions.
Thanks Bruce

Hello brucefl,
I have read your post on how your friend's computer will not power on, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Since the fan spins a little bit with the green light, I recommend following this document on Computer Does Not Start (Windows 7) or for (Windows 8). This resource should help power on your desktop, or specify if there is a hardware defect attributing to the issue.
For further assistance, I will need to know:
The Product and Model Number of your desktop computer.
The version of Windows you have installed on your computer.
If this is an on-going, or recent issue.
If you have added any new hardware or software recently to your computer.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

• Desktop won't start and has no blue lights

My pavilion elite desktop has had a high pitch noise since I bought it. I read that the video card could cause that so I got a new video card but it made the same sound. I tracked the sound down to the psu. I returned the video card and got a new psu. The noise is got but the machine doesn't boot up now. All fans come on but no front panel lights no keyboard lights no monitor output. Tried putting the old psu back in. The noise was back but still no boot. I tried removing each piece of hardware till all I had was memory and hd left and still no lights. I swapped memory locations, sata cables, tried the card reader trick. Nothing seems to work. Could a blown led for the front panel cause it to not boot? That's the only connector I have left since I need it to power on.

Thanks for any ideas.

• Desktop won't start; blinking green light

I have a Compaq Presario SR 1318NX which will not start!? There is a blinking green light on the back of the power supply; which is normally solid green when 110V AC is plugged into it. I have tried the trick of holding the start button while plugging in the power cord ..... no help. I have also opened the case and carefully removed every power cord to all the internal devices ................ the light turns solid green only when I pull the main power from the motherboard!
Do I need to replace the motherboard? The troubleshooting site on hp.com would indicate the power supply is OK if the light is solid green.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Lou

My wife's computer has been having the same problem several times. One solution I found that worked before was to unplug the motherboard power cable and the PSU power cable from the back of the PC and then connect the power cable and connect the motherboard power cable while holding down the power button. Scary, to say the least, but it worked, until one day I accidentally flipped the wrong breaker and then spend two hours trying the same solution with no luck and Googling again. And here is what I found. This is the simplest yet crudest solution. It’s easy and non invasive and it doesn’t matter how tech savvy you are. Take a blow dryer and turn it on to blow air at the back of the power supply for a couple minutes. When you see the light turn green you’re all set. It's worked for me after it worked for a hundred others, maybe more. See the testimonials on this site: http://talk19.wordpress.com/2008/01/13/hp-m7088d-power-supply-led-blinks-green/. It’s a shame that nothing like this appears on any HP site. So don’t waste your money on a new MoBo or PSU. All you need is your wife’s hair drier.

• MacBook Pro won't power up. No charger light

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 15" with 2.4Ghz i7 w/ OSX 10.8.4
I did an Apple software update today. It included updates to iTunes and i think a Thunderbolt update also. It requested a system restart so I went ahead and restarted it and left the room. When I came back in about 10 minutes later it was powered off. I tried to start it back up but it won't do anything. The light on the charger wasn't on either. I tried another socket and another charger and same thing. Before the update I had a full charge on the battery and the charger was lit up so I'm pretty sure its not an issue with the charger or battery. Tonight I looked at it again and noticed that the charger light is on its just very dim where you can berely see it.
Has anyone seen this issue before? I have seen a few other posts similar but none where everything just died all at once. My warranty is out so I'm trying to find a way to repair it myself if possible. I use this laptop to do alot of video editing so it gets pretty hot at times. Hopefully its not damaged beyond repair. I have alot of PC repair experience but I've never messed with a Mac other than upgrading RAM.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Thanks for your quick response.
I probably should have mentioned this before but I just got it back from repair about a month ago. I had a problem with one of the USB ports not working sometimes. They replaced the logic board and both RAM sticks. I will try the SMC reset when I get home in the morning. I bought it refurbished from Apple and the warranty just ran out about 2 weeks ago so hopefully the SMC reset will do something.
I did try removing the battery connector today for about 10 minutes but that didn't have any affect.
Thanks again for your help.

• MacBook Pro won't power up and no charger light after USB device was plugged in

Hey guys,
I have a late 2012 MacBook Pro 13" with a water damage that didn't cause any troubles (until now).
A couple of days ago I plugged in a Samsung tablet to recharge it's battery on my MacBook. At the same time my screen went black and the MacBook powered off. No usual forced low-battery-shutdown or anything, it just died. From then on the charger light didn't work and I wasn't able to start the Computer anymore. From time to time the charger light was flickering a little bit but way darker than the usual luminosity. The Laptop had a water damage about a year ago, which didn't cause any trouble. I dried and aired it for a couple of days and didn't switch it on during that time. It worked normal for the rest of the year but now I think the mainboard is ******. Please tell me something different, or the truth even though it might be shattering.
Just in case it might be important. I was backpacking in Sri Lanka when the incident took place. It didn't seem like there was an overvoltage or anything like that though...
Thank you guys and have a good day.
Alex

Liquid damage is progressive.
Best action that can be done is to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out
and repaired if possible and affordable.
Best.

• My iphone 4s screen is black the sound is working and I know it is on because the back light will light up, but it is black. The reset button also will not work.

My iphone 4S has a black screen. The sounds still works and it will turn on a and off, but the screen is just black. I tried to reset it but the apple sign never shows.

Hey there PDWPDW,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’ve already done quite a bit of troubleshooting in an attempt to resolve the blank black screen issue with your iPhone 4S. Take a look at the articles linked below, the first will walk you through the process of restoring your device from recovery mode and the second provides some additional troubleshooting suggestions that you may not have tried already.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If you see a solid color screen (black, white or blue)
Plug in your device to a power source. If you see the low-battery screen when you plug in, let your device charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad) before using it.
Reset your device while it's plugged in.
If resetting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.
Ciao,
-Jason

• Computer won't power on - sleeping?

My s3320f desktop is about 6 years old and I'm having a problem now where the computer won't power on. The amber light on the PSU comes on steady but nothing else happens. I had put the computer to sleep using the start button and it powered down normal (there is no light on the power button - should it be amber?). Any suggestions on how to get this computer to power on? I've tried a new power cord, holding the power button for 30 seconds w/o being plugged in, and a new CMOS battery. In the past, I sometimes get a flashing amber power button and have to cut power to get it to stop - does that indicate anything?

Hello tizzy,
I have read your post on how your computer is not able to power on, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! To begin, I will need to ask you a few questions:
Is this an on-going, or recent issue?
Have you added any new software or hardware recently to your desktop?
Is your computer plugged directly into a wall outlet?
In the meantime, I recommend following this document on Computer Does Not Start (Windows Vista). This should help enable your computer to startup once again.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

• Pavilion Slimline locks up in sleep mode-fan runs high-won't power up unless I pull power cord 1st

Brand new HP Pavilion Slimline 400-314 Desktop - while in sleep mode sometimes will cause the computer to lock up, the power light will be on solid, the fan is running on high. Only way to unlock the computer is to hold the power button in for 5 seconds. I wait for 15-20 seconds, then press the power button to turn it back on. Immediatly the computer starts back up again with the power light on solid and the fan running on high. The only way to break this cycle is to first pull the power cord from the back, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. This time when I power up the computer it fires up just fine.
Is this a BIOS issue? Please help as I don't have that much hair left.

• My mbp won't power up after update.

after running an app store update, (Xcode) my mbp won't power up and the battery lights are showing flat even though it was on charge over night.
the update was taking a long time, and it had a message saying something like deleting old files.
i went to bed and left it over night.
when i went back this mornng it had powered down, and the drained the battery even though it was plugged in.
now i can not power up, and i have tried the smc reset.
please help.
many thanks.

• Iphone won't power up.

My iphone won't power up since yesterday morning. The back of it got a little wet on Saturday night but was working fine until yesterday. Any suggestions ?

It would help if you would clarify what " I have tried everything" means.
Have you tried restart, reset, restore?
Page 34 of the manual:
"If something is not working right, restarting or resetting iPhone will likely solve the
problem.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and
hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the
same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
For more troubleshooting suggestions, see Appendix A, “Troubleshooting,” on
page 132. "

Reset iPhone settings. From the Home screen choose Settings > General > Reset
Reset All Settings. All your preferences are reset, but your data and media aren’t
deleted.
If that doesn’t work, erase all content on iPhone. See “
Resetting iPhone” on page 111.
If that doesn’t work, restore the iPhone software. See “
