Desktops dropping wired connection to e4200 and other Linksys routers

Hi,
On Friday, I lost all Internet connnecitivity on my Linksys e3000.  After determining that my cable modem was connected and working correctly, I pulled the e3000 and put my old wrv54g router in place.  Wireless worked, but all wired connections showed link but no other apparent connectivity.  Neither of my desktops could get a DHCP lease.
At that point, I purchased and manually installed a new e4200 router.  All worked fine.  Both laptops connected via wireless and both desktops via my house LAN.  Until this morning (Monday).  Wireless is working just fine, but both wired computers show 100 Mbs connections on an unknown network with no DHCP.  Checking status shows packets going out, but nothing coming in.  Checking LAN status on the router shows that both ports are connected, but it does not appear to receive anything from either desktop.  All was fine last night.  Oh, the router is on 1.0.03 firmware.
I have tried about everything I can think of.  Configurations both on the router and the desktops (one Windows XP, 64 bit and one Windows 7) and all seems fine.  I have disabled and reenabled the network connectors, rebooted both the router and the computers, etc.  Nothing seems to work.
I am out of ideas and desparate.  Does anyone have any idesa.
Thanks,
Mitch

I actually solved the problem, after a long day of trying everything I could think of, and the issue was not the router.  I did a chat session with a Linksys support rep and we figured out that the router was bad.  I replaced it with a new one and still had the same problem.
Long story short, I have a weather unit that connects, via wire, to the Internet to retrieve weather forecasts.  It is hooked up through a ethernet switch, along with my desktop.  For whatever reason, it went flakey and took down everything that was on a wire, including my wife's desktop in another room, which was connected to the router through a hub.  As soon as I pulled the power on the weather device, everything started working.  When I put power back, everything still worked.
Not sure why, or how this happened, but I will take success any way I can get it.
In regards to the e3000 problem, when I was returing the original e4200 for replacement at Best Buy, the guy there said that they had seen the ethernet switch part of the e3000 units fail before.  I had an e3000, which failed last Friday, which was why I purchased the e4200 to replace it.  Of course, my e3000 failed completely, including wireless.

  • WRT%$G dropping wired connect frequently

Trying to setup a wireless internet with WRT54G v.3 ( using latest firmware 4.2.1 1/30/2007) on Comcast IP w/VOIP modem (Arris TM502G). Seems to work fine when using only MAC address specific. However when adding WEP encyyption, it frequently drop the wired connection. Sometimes the drop is momentary and it reconnects itself. Other times, I have to restart the router. I've been through much of the forums and have spent much too much time on the issue. Problem remains. Currently using borrowed Actiontec MA424WR without issue. Please help would like to get the WRT going so I can return the Actiontec. Thought maybe your technical crew will have an answer for me...thanks Paul

I assume you mean you are using 4.21.1 firmware.
After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since the last firmware upgrade, then please do it now and see if it corrects your problem.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
Also, many users have found that WPA works better than WEP.  Please try WPA encryption.

  • E4200v2 dropping wired connections

I just installed a brand new e4200 replacing my WRT54.
Wireless works good with a noticable performance improvement over my old wireless.
However, the wired conenctions are not solid at all. I am getting over 10% packet loss from the wired conenctions.
I can not even connecct to the web ui reliably over wired connections.
I upgraded to the latest firmware release with no real change at all.
I hope this is an easy fix since the e4200 generally has good reviews Im stumped as to what is going on.

    Try the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the user name field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
    Then check the connectivity..

  • WRT120N - Dropping wired connection frequently

Today alone I have dropped connection 6 times. I recently purchased this router because I thought my WRT54G was kicking on its last leg. It would dropped connections every 45 minutes it seemed.
Now I am experiencing the same issues with this router which is brand new. I have tried power cycling the modem and router. I have made new cables for my devices I am connecting (PS3, PC, DirecTV receiver) I haven't tested things with just going with the modem seperately for security reasons, but I have contacted my ISP to see if anything was wrong with the modem. They have told me that nothing is showing up on there end.
What else could be causing this?

I changed the setting and I am still getting drops in connections while on the internet and PS3. Since the morning of the 9/10/09 up until today, I have dropped 14 connections. Though they only last maybe a second or two, it is still inconvinient.
This happened frequently while trying to play my PS3 online, so I disconnected from the router and plugged the PS3 straight into the modem. I didnt have any issues while playing my PS3. I plugged the modem back into the router and got on the computer for a few hours and the dropped connections started again.
I am honestly at a lost with this.

  • Well I bought a WiFi router. How to connect old Macs and other things??

    Hi,
I purchased a WiFi router mainly for my PSP but I also want to connect my Macs wirelessly to my router. What older Macs can connect to it and how? What other stuff can connect to it?
    Thanks

In about an hour AR is going to start complaining about the cost being too high and wanting cheaper alternatives. The solution to each situation exceeds the value of the computers themselves. Don't bother asking if there is another less expensive way to do it because there is not.
Expect to pay at least $50 for one.
For the 8600 there's also a Belkin USB adapter that has OS 9 drivers and I believe there are PCI card wireless adapters that work under OS9 as well (although I can't recall which ones).
*Proxim Skyline PCI wireless card, that is what WAS sold and worked in 8.6-9.x - they are no longer made and the company was taken over by a larger one that stopped all Mac related support so no new drivers were made.
*Belkin has drivers for the F5D6050 USB device. They are OK, but not as reliable as one would want. Relative to each other the OSX drivers are better than the OS9 ones.
*Smart money would buy a wireless bridge.

  • Macbook Pro 10.6.8 constantly drops my wi-fi network and joins Linksys which works but very slow

My Macbook Pro constantly drops my network and joins Linksys. It connects to the Internet but is painfully slow. Choosing my network again works for a while than goes back to Linksys. Any sugestions?

Try going to system preferences/network/advanced, airport tab, in the prefered networks pane highlight and drag your net work to the top of the list. See if it then chooses your network as prefered, hope this helps.

  • Windows 7 desktop drops WIFI connection

    Hi -
I seem to see a lot of posts with this same problem, but no solution that's relevant to me.  I have a DLink DIR 655 router that has the latest firmware installed (I updated it yesterday). One of the machines on my wireless network is having problems.
Two Microsoft Surfaces, three Windows phones, and one Canon WIFI printer all work fine, its only a desktop that uses a USB Wireless card that has the problem.  I am currently using a Medialink MWNUSB150N wireless card.  Note, however, that I had
exactly the same problems with a DLink wireless card.
The problem is that the WIFI connection drops frequently.  The systray will indicate that I am connected to the wireless network with internet access.  Then I will notice that web pages are not loading, but it will still show that I am connected
to the WIFI network and the internet.  After a short time, the systray will show that I am connected to the network, but have no internet access.  After some more time it will show that I am not connected, but will usually show that connections
are available.  When I try to reconnect (my SSID shows as available at this point), then I get an error saying no network is available.  At this point, my SSID no longer shows as available.  I've run the troubleshooter probably 100 times over
the course of several months.  It never helps.  Rebooting sometimes helps.  Sometimes it seems like I need to do a voo doo dance to get the connection back.  Following is the result of running netsh wlan show driver.
    Any ideas?

    Questions:
Regarding your advice to check the wireless security settings - I don't know exactly what to do.  I went into the router admin page and checked the wireless security - its set to "WPA-Personal". Other than that, I don't know how to tell if
    its using TKIP or not.
The next time it fails, I will try your suggestion to remove the network and reconnect.  I can't remember if I tried that at some point, so I'll give it a shot.  I'm waiting for it to fail right now as I tried something yesterday that I think has
a low chance of success, and it hasn't failed yet.  I noticed that the option to "allow Windows to turn off this device to save power" was checked for the wireless adapter, so I unchecked that value.  I only think it has a low chance of
success, since the timing of the shutdowns was pretty random and did not "smell" like a power saving thing, but thus far it hasn't failed.  I'm still within the window of randomness, though.  Sometimes it works for a little over a day and
sometimes it fails after less than 5 minutes, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for the moment.
    Comments:
Tried using different USB ports, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, and front panel vs. real panel just in case there was anything weird going on.  No difference.
Updated the driver using the "update driver" button.  Windows believes I have the best driver installed. I did look for other versions, didn't find anything.

  • EA 3500 dropping wired connection when online gaming

I  just had Comcast setup my internet and it is really fast. 30 down, 10 up, 40 ping, my connection to my computer (wireless) is very fast and my online gaming (wired) is not laggy at all.
The problem lies with the connection dropping when I am online gaming. I connected directly to the modem and there's no problem at all. I connect to my Linksys EA3500 and once I start playing in an online game, I disconnect from Xbox Live and am dropped from the game... anywhere from right away until about 10-15 minutes into the game. This is  the only time where my connection falters at all, otherwise it is great. But I play online a lot, and competitively, so I obviously need a stable connection.
I have not had this issue with my previous ISP in New York, Time Warner and that connection was much worse. I'm thinking it must be a setting on the router that is causing this, but I can't pinpoint what. I tried automatic AND static connections from my xbox to the router. On the static connection, I even put a DMZ on it, but to no avail. What is causing this hiccup in the connection?
Any suggestions would be great, please and thanks!!

Are you already using the Linksys Smart Wifi? Set up media prioritization in the router and see if that will improve the connection with the xbox. Is the connection intermittent with other devices? Is there like a specific time in the day where your connection will drop?

  • Bridge drops while connected to Playbook and Z10.

    Hi,
I have a Z10 10.1 software with Telus and the updated Playbook software.
when im bridged to the playbook the bridge connection drops once and a while.  There are no other bluetooth connections around when I am in my home that could be interferring...
Are there any issues with the bridge connection?

    Hi mikeymike123,
Could you please provide as much detail as possible on this issue so we can better assist?
What version of BlackBerry Bridge do you have installed?
Do you receive any error or warning message when the connection drops?
Are you accessing any specific features when this happens?
Are you always in the same environment when you have this issue?
What steps do you need to perform to restore your connection?
I look forward to your response.

  • WRT150N - Dropping wired connection

As the title states I have a WRT150N router. Ever since I've gotten it I randomly lose my connectivity to my internet, and my home network as well I think. My dad has a regular wired router, not sure which one exactly, but when I'm connected to his router I never had this problem. The IPs for all of the computers on the networks are allocated dynamically and aside from that I don't know what could be causing it. Any ideas?

When you lose the internet connection, check if you lose the network connection as well...
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Intermittent dropped wireless connection with E4200

Bought an E4200 to replace my Netwgear router and am experiencing the following problem.
One of my wireless boxes serves as mu mail server. I've been running this configuration for years so the only thing that has changed is the router.
The neworkd is up and all wireless clients can connect, but after some time, access to the mail server just 'freezes'. I say freezes as the nework icon (i'm using ubuntu' still show a connection. In addtion, there are not error in any of the logs. I just seems that the mail server and the router just stopped communication.
Any idea what I should be doing next? As I said the only thing that has changed is the router.

I would suggest you to try upgrading the Router’s firmware. Here is the link for upgrading the firmware of the Router: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=a68b3a0c05f441f290600a2054f81e29_4272.xml&pid=80&r... . After upgrading the Router’s firmware, reset the Router. Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on Router for 30 seconds, turn off the Router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
Power cycle it and re-configure the router from scratch. Then check the connectivity status.
