Desperate for Help - Please

Hi, thanks for reading.
Really don't know what to do anymore, just fel like I've been kicked from pillar to post.
We have 2 lines in our house (2 BT accounts), a normal residential main house phone and a 2nd residential line that I have been using for our business. We have had this 2nd line for over 4 years.
Nearly a month ago we called BT to say would they be able to move the 2nd line from house to the 'summer house' we have had built in the garden. Which is a matter of 10 meters. Yes no problem was the answer i was given.
Early last week a BT engineer came out and told me he was here to put a totally new line and number in. I explained thats not what we wanted. He said, fine no probs, just call BT and tell them they have got it wrong and cancel the order. Which I did.
A few days later, we find out that the line has been totally cut off. So I call again to tell them. "No problem, we are here to sort things out' is the answer I get.
The long and sort of it is, after a week of phone calls, getting cut off, hours on the phone each time, getting told this is too complicated to understand - I have just had a conversation with another person in India, telling me there is no record of anything and they don't understand the problem.
We are deperate for our number to be re-connected as we are losing money daily. I can't seem to speak to anybody that understands the problem. It's just not getting anywhere.
Please can anybody help me??
kind regards
Dan

  • Unable to restore from Time Machine after an erase and reinstall - MacbookPro cannot access my old Time Machine backup volume. Desperate for help please?

My MacbookPro would not move past the Apple logo and spinning wheel for a number of hours.  After trying the numerous suggestions to solve the issue I eventually opted to erase and reinstall feeling confident my Time Machine backups would come to the rescue.  After a successful erase and reinstall I tried to restore all my data from my TIme Capsule using Command-R during start up and by using the Migration Assistant.  Neither worked and I have received messages to the effect that the backup volumes on my Time Capsule cannot be access because I have entered a wrong password or because the backup volume is damaged.
When I open my Time Capsule in Finder and click on my sparsebundle I get an eror message saying that the disk image could not be opened and that the resource is temporarily unavailable.
Desperate for some help and comfort that many years of personal data have not been lost.
    Thank you.

  • Hi everyone:-) I am desperate for help please

I have deleted some of my source files that were saved on my hard drive. The images are all still visible in lighroom, obviously previews.
Is there anyway I can still use these images with the source files gone?
I ran a system recovery and the files were found but they wont open? It just says the file are unreadable or corrupt. I am sure they can not be corrupt as I stopped using the computer immediately.
The recovery program I used is Disk Drill. I am using a mac.
I need these images in RAW or JPEG as that is what I saved them as.
If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.
    And no, no backups done:-(

The first and most important thing for you to do is to stop using that mac for any major functions that invovle writing to disk so you don't make the problem worse by overwriting the files.
I've never had to recover files on a mac but have had to many times from SD cards and found that you really have to try more than one app to get it done. Whereas one app might tell you the files are unrecoverable, another might recover half of them and a third might get them all or at least more of them.
While there are a number of free apps (and ones with trials that will let you run the routine to see what you miight recover before you buy it), there is probably a better chance that you will have success with one of the paid ones.
The mac app store has some and I found this survey on the web:
    http://data-recovery-software-review.toptenreviews.com/mac-recovery-software/
Good luck. If the files are really valuable commerical files, you can pay through the nose and have a data recovery firm get them for you.

Java install won't accept <Ok>?? Desperate for help??
I've decided that I'm going to develop my Rails applications in Linux and keep hitting a BRICK WALL every time I try to install NetBeans or Java. I download all of the packages and come to a text screen that says "Package Configuration" and then "Configuring sun-java5-bin" and then it asks you to read the agreement and there's an <Ok> at the bottom. I can't get through this and everytime it fails my 'package manager' goes bonkers and I have to reload the Ubuntu Gutys Gibbon operating system AGAIN!!!
I push ENTER and type in "yes" and "Ok" and there is no response.
I've loaded this operating system FIVE TIMES NOW and the bottleneck is very frustrating as I can't program in a graphics environment without Java.
I joined this forum just to ask this question and would be grateful for a reply at [email protected]

my 4S keeps showing me sos only only invalid sim? desperate for help?

Ok, so I just went to Australia from NZ and the same thing happened to me. I was so annoyed as I couldn't text, ring or anything. I returned to NZ this morning, rang telecom and they said it's a hardware issue and talked me through this:
Settings, Phone, SIM applications, roaming menu, manual, select your provider, accept.
Go through each stage and this fixed the problem!!
    Good luck!!

  • Anyone has 'Yourlink'?? Nothing works here with me, really desperate, need HELP, please!

Hi there, I have wireless internet through 'Yourlink.ca'. The cable comes from the roof, goes through a modem and gets plugged into my computer.
I tried everything with my Linksys router, every connection option, a really nice and IT guy helped me for a few days, I tried a crossover cable, nothing works.
The connection from computer to router is fine, but something does not line up from modem to router . . . When I've had everything installed and connected I've had to give in the DNS addresses I have from yourlink by hand to have some and those ones were the only numbers displayed on the 'Status' page.
I really dont know what to do anymore, please can anybody help me?? Yourlink is really not very helpful in that matter, even so they should know what works best with their connections/modems to routers, you get only some very plain answers on the first help level.
There should be an easy explanation to everything, I am starting to loose my mind!
Thanks for any input, even if I tried it already.

My cable comes directly from the roof where the little dish is installed and before it comes into the room it goes through the modem, so it hangs all together. The modem is on the wall of our sunroom and from there the cable comes into my computer room through the wall.
Hope that is helpful. Thanks very much.

  • Desperate for help ... Getting error "can't initialize video deck"

Last night, I had been importing footage just fine into Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 from my camcorder. Then today, no matter how many times I try, how many times I reboot, I get the error that it cannot initialize the video deck when I try to Log and Capture the footage. I've read a number of the solutions to other people having this problem, I ran Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, try unplugging the power and FireWire cable completely, to no avail. Before this, it had been kind of "buggy" in the last few days trying to capture footage, but usually would connect just fine after I would turn off the camera and turn it back on. But today nothing ... I haven't installed or done anything to this system in months, and like I said, I've imported 24 tapes up to now with only a couple of slight times where it couldn't load initially, but usually did on the second try. Could something be conflicting on my system? I have an external hard drive connected to the system which I use for my capture scratch disk, and if I boot up the system with my camcorder turned on, my external hard drive is not recognized. But once I turn the camcorder off, my external hard drive pops right up. Same kind of issue when opening Final Cut Pro ... if I try to open FCP with my camcorder turned on, it hangs on the little rainbow circle. But the second I turn off the camcorder, Final Cut loads just fine. I am really desperate for a solution on this one, I'm way behind on a project, and only have 7 more tapes to go. By the way, I'm on a Power Mac G5.

    jason,
Before I go into the firewire port reset procedure there are two things you should understand.
    1. Paragraphs are not optional. Your English teacher should give you a dope slap for the way you wrote your original post.
    2. When you reply to a Post, click REPLY ON THAT POST not on your original post. Otherwise, when you view this thread in 'Threaded View" (to be found under My Settings), it looks like you are talking to yourself.
Now, to reset the firewire bus. I like to do this in a recreational manner - hence the 'Harpoon Solution" (aka the Guinness solution in the mid and far west)
    1. turn everything off.
    2. unplug firewire cables
    3. unplug power cords
    4. get up from well worn chair
    5. walk to refrigerator
    6. open refrigerator
    7. remove bottle of Harpoon (Guinness, local micro brew, etc)
    8. pop cap
    9. pour into glass ( you AREN'T going to drink it from a bottle, are you?)
    10. sip responsibly. enjoy the moment. think pure thoughts
    11. return to kitchen. If less than 15 minutes has elapsed, have another. Otherwise, retrurn to edit room.
    12. Plug everything back together
    12. fire up external monitors, VTR, external hard drives & computer in that order.
Does it work now? If yes, congratulate your self. If not, oh well, but at least you are in a much better frame of mind to begin some serious troubleshooting.
    cheerios,
    x

  • Printing issues- please, I am desperate for help!

I purchased a MacBook in April. I already owned the following Canon printers- a Canon pixma ip2600, a Canon mx330, and a Canon ip100. When I try to print photographs, from iPhoto, Preview, or Photoshop CS4, they print out as very pale versions - like ghost images. Word documents with embedded images print fine. I reinstalled the software- I downloaded the most up-to-date version of the software for the current OS on my Mac (Snow Leopard...) - twice. I searched the archives for fixes, and repeated what I already had done. I gave up. I had a book to finish and simply started burning the images to disk to print from the family Toshiba PC laptop. This is not working! I'm desperate to be able to print photos from my own computer!! I don't live near an Apple Store (ours closed a year or two ago.) Can anyone help??

I don't have any experience with those printers, but for a while my MacBook was having a similar problem with printing to a Canon ir5070 office copier/printer/scanner. The printed pages would be very light, though not as light as you describe. My solution was to download and install the most up-to-date driver from Canon USA's website (http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home). If you haven't done that, it's worth a try. Good luck!

  • I recently clicked on an iphoto 'upgrade' message I received and now I cannot see ANY of my photos!!  Desperate for help!  Please.  Thanks.

I recently 'upgraded' my iphoto because everytime I clicked on it,  I got a message telling me to do it.  Now,  I cannot see ANY of my pictures. Very frustrating. I've already gone to 'software updates' and tried that to no avail.  Please,  anyone... HELP!!!  Thanks!!!

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • I am desperate for help!

I recently purchased an iMac (October 2013) and my computer knowledge is very limited. The computer has two user areas, one for my wife and one for me. Our iTunes account and photos are in my user area. My wife wants to access our photos and music from her user area. We have now had three separate one to one meetings at our local apple store (Liverpool England ) to sort out our requirements. At each meeting we have been told three completely different ways of achieving this. None have worked or are reasonable. The last recommendation was to copy our iTunes and photos to an external hard drive( which the apple employee did for my wife) and when she wishes to to look at our photos or listen to music plug the hard drive into the computer and upload her requirements.
Unfortunately I was not at this meeting. This last suggestion seems ridiculous to me!
Could anyone please help us and give us directions suitable for novices to follow. Many thanks in anticipation. We are rapidly losing faith in apple employees.

This is Apple's solution for sharing photos on iPhoto using an external hard drive.
In reality, it maybe a lot easier just purchasing an external hard drive and move both your iTunes library and iPhoto libraries to the external drive for sharing.

  • 1st generation MacBook, battery and Leopard issues; looking for help please

I have a 1st generation MacBook that started having battery problems immediately after installing Leopard. it was the same issue many others have complained about; battery life shortened and shutting down while on battery power with no warning. I have never had that problem while using Tiger. I experienced this with both 10.5.0 and the stand alone upgrade of 10.5.1 using an erase and install method.
(BTW, as a side note: I'm religious about calibrating my battery every month and use a program called "CoconutBattery" to document the results. Prior to Leopard, the battery measured 97-99% capacity. Three days after Leopard was installed it was time for another check, the result was 74% capacity.)
I had a clone backup of Tiger and immediately restored my MacBook, but the problem followed Tiger. I have Applecare and called support. Both myself and the tech found it rather hard to believe that the battery just suddenly failed coincidentally after the Leopard install. We went through the regular things; SMC reset, firmware checks, diagnostics, repair permissions, etc.
We believe it has to do with the Battery Updater package. I had gone between both versions of 1.2 and 1.3, but the problem remained with both Tiger and Leopard. The tech decided to send me a new battery (it's on the way) and I wish to try installing Leopard again. As long as I have my cloned Tiger image, all I have to lose is my time, but hopefully, not another battery! I would honestly like to get Leopard running on this machine.
But... here's my question. In reading through these discussions in both the Leopard and MacBook forum, there doesn't seem to be any consensus of which BatteryUpdater package to use. The Apple tech honestly told me he didn't know. Also, if the BU package "writes" to the battery (which it states it does), can it be downgraded once v1.3 has been installed? I mean, should I leave the battery out, install Leopard, then manually update BU to v1.2 before installing the battery (if possible)? I do plan on testing the new battery with my Tiger install, just to verify it is working as it was before.
There are a lot of people here claiming to be knowledgeable about Leopard, never had any problems with a variety of machines, etc, etc, so I would appreciate your input. Please don't speculate, but if you're using a version of BU that works with Leopard and your 1st Gen MacBook, I would appreciate you telling me about it. I have tried to document and methodically relate everything I've done so far, but if you need additional information, just let me know.
I noticed Leopard had installed BU v1.3 when I checked it, so it must use that as default, since I noticed Tiger had v1.2.
OR, am I way off base on this? Can anyone think of another reason I may have had this problem? Am I barking up the wrong tree by concentrating on the BatteryUpdater package? Is it possible all these batteries are failing under a Leopard install maybe due to some unknown reason?
Any knowledgeable advice or suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Well, Ding Dang y'all... it appears the battery was the culprit. I received my replacement battery from Apple and followed the same steps and everything seems to be working fine.
It sure was strange that the battery started this problem immediately after Leopard was installed... I don't know what to say about that, unless BatteryUpdater v1.3 started the chain of events.
In case it helps someone else, here's exactly what I did (rebooted through each step):
    - Backed up data; unauthorized computer from iTunes
    - Erase and install from the Leopard disc, while keeping the old battery in
    - Installed Leopard, did software updates except for delta 10.5.1 update
    - Applied combo update of 10.5.1 from separately downloaded file
    - Found BatteryUpdater Bundle (BU) of v1.3, moved to trash, rebooted
    - Ran software updates, BU v1.2 was found and installed
    - Then, swapped out battery to new battery
    - Tested unit, seems to be okay now, no shutdown issues, battery runtime seems normal
Thanks to all that had advice and suggestions. It was enough to get me to try it again. Now, I have two more machines to upgrade, since these are production machines, I'll probably wait awhile. But, having this is a real treat.
    Have a great holiday everyone!

  • Critical disk space! desperate for help!

here is the story. all of a sudden, my hard disk is telling me i have somehow filled 71.69 of 74.4 GB of disk space. the largest of these volumes on the HD is the Users folder in my Home folder. i did some research, and i heard that some console messages can tell someone about problems concerning volumes growing to unchecked sizes. i saw a series of messages in my "console.log" reading:
"Excessive update rate for jasonedwards@Jason Edwards’ Computer.presence.tcp.local.;"
does this mean anything at all? does anyone know? my computer is at critical mass, and as a musician, i am loathe to move all my music files to an external hard drive i cannot afford.

you can download a free app called "Whatsize" which
will tell you what it taking up the space.
    Here's where to find it:

Just a little other very friendly advice here --
    You said:
my computer is at critical mass, and as a musician, i am loathe to move all my music files to an external hard drive i cannot afford.
If you're a serious musician, you can't afford NOT to get an external drive.
They cost about $80, and will save hours and hours of your work.
If you lost all of your music due to losing HD space, how much would that be worth? A lot more than $80, I bet.
    All the best . . .
