Desperate Help N97 required -- latop reboots when ...

Hi,
I have recently purchased a N97 (UK , 3G) which has the firmware version 10. and when i try to upload the new firmware it says 15 mins and then remains the same after which it causes my windows to crash.
I have tried most of the things... un installed pc suit, nokia software uploader, ovi suit, changed usb ports... everything...
Just before the crash i see that the windows task bar says "found nokia rom" then after sometime it crashes.. in the blue windows screen it mentions something abt some driver.
Please help.
Thanks in advance
Shobhit

hi again, I truly want to thank Mr. Moleman and Reilly875 for posting responses.
After researching the topic all day at work, I found myself on my video card's website...here is a quote from the user guide:
"Do This First! To ensure a successful installation of your ATI Graphics Accelerator card, you MUST do the following BEFORE replacing your current graphics card with your new ATI card:
Install AGP Drivers for non-Intel Chipset Based Motherboards. Several AGP motherboard manufacturers use non-Intel AGP chipsets. Chipsets include those made by Acer Laboratories (ALI), Silicon Integrated Systems (SIS), and VIA Technologies, Inc. Each non-Intel chipset requires the installation of a custom Virtual GART (AGP) Driver. This driver is required by your new ATI card to function correctly with your motherboard. It is very important that the correct AGP driver be installed before installing an AGP video card in your system. This section applies to AGP Graphic Accelerator cards only. An incorrect or missing GART driver can result in AGP memory not being detected or a black screen after Windows® loads. "
I have a feeling this is the problem since my mobo is SIS648F- I have yet to try it though. Any thoughts?
How would i go about installing the proper driver w/o being able to load windows? (I don't have a floppy drive)
My 2nd thought is like Moleman and Reilly said- the ram; but i only have one so i can't take any out....yet. My thought was, prior to taking it out, manually tweaking the bios config to match my ram.
My 3rd thought is to upgrade the bios- i'm not sure what version i have off hand-that'll have to wait till i get back home.
Lastly (for now), if the agp update is indeed the solution, does that mean i need to go and download all the new updates from the MSI and SIS sites for each component?
Please, all feedback is greatly appreciated from anyone.

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store.

  • I do not want FF to upgrade and require a reboot. The settings are correct. I only see a default profile at firefox -p. HELP!

I believe I have tried everything. I tried execution via CMD firefox.exe -p and I only see one profile. I have it set not to update at all. I don't mind updates, really, but when my PC needs a reboot to use FF that is an issue with me. Sometimes it is only when I try to execute a hyperlink from a program such as e-mail (Outlook 2010), but at times the entire FF application gets hosed and the cursor just blinks while in the FF environment.
Sometime I do video editing, am engaged in a MS practice exam, or corresponding via time sensitive e-mail. Rebooting when FF tells me too is often inconvenient, and yea I know I can switch back to IE on the fly, but its hard to keep bookmarks, and settings on two or more browsers simultaneously, and it is all about a positive user experience, is it not?
    Any help, answers, suggestions?
    Thanks, Tony

Firefox shouldn't need a Windows reboot to update.
If this is needed then it means that some file were in use by another applications (possibly security software) and Firefox wasn't able to replace/update all the files.
If you have such security software them you would have to contact them for support and ask how to disable this feature or switch to other security software that doesn't has this feature.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that has effect.

  • Macbook Pro Retina freezes requiring manual reboot

    Hello,
Starting a few days ago my notebook experiences severe freezes that
    require manual reboot.
The system is a Macbook Pro Retina from 2013, with MacOSX 10.8.5.
I use it for both work (software devel, MSOffice, Latex, Skype) and
    leisure (music, movies, browsing).
Apple software updates and most add-on software are up-to-date (with
    the notable exception of MSOffice).
Starting a few days ago, my computer started freezing. By freeze I mean
that the user interface completely blocks. I can still move the mouse
pointer (smoothly), but clicking has no effects. The only way I found to exit
such freezes is through a shut down using the button.
Freezes seem to be associated with video. They always happen when I
try to use both Skype and a browser. They also happen sometimes when
watching video on video streaming sites different from YouTube.
Funny enough, when Skype freezes, the user interface and the video
blocks, but the sound still works in both directions.
It does not look like a hardware problem.
At first the symptoms reminded me of viruses (I do have a certain age,
so I remember) but now I'm less sure. It could be a software
incompatibility (I seem to remember that I have accepted an Apple software
update just a few days ago).
I would appreciate any help in understanding the problem and in solving
    it.
    Yours,
    Dumitru

    Hello Link,
Thanks for your help. Here is the information you asked me to find.
    Some additional information:
    - Of the 4 reboots I can find in the log (I had more, they must have been overwritten),
3 show the same pattern as the one I pasted here. It ends with problems in
      OpenGL.
    - Both crashed I have on record are on VDCAssistant.
    - I don't find shutdownstalls.
    Regards,
    Dumitru

  • Unable to update any software that requires a reboot.

When my old mbp broke down I migrated all my files using Time Machine. At first I had some issues with multiple accounts but since that was resolved everything has been running smoothly. Recently though, I discovered that when I tried to update Safari to 5.1.2, it appeared as if the installation went all right but when the system had rebooted the application was still on my software update list. On that list were also several firmware updates as well as minor updates for applications like iTunes. In fact, I could see that no automatic updates had gone through as planned since I bought my new computer last spring. The list was empty.
I tried to install all updates that didn't require a rebooting of the mbp and this went very well. However, when I tried to install the updates for firmware and Safari, my computer didn't even ask me for my password but skipped immediately to rebooting. When it fired up again, none of the updates had been installed but were still on the list for available updates.
Another thing that I've discovered while googling for a solution to my problem is that my disk permissions are corrupted in some way. I've tried to use Disk Utility to repair my disk permissions and it changes the permissions of about a dozen of files. Immediately after having been repaired though, if I run another verification scan, these same files will show up again as having the incorrect permissions.
Are these problems related? Does anyone know how to fix either of them? I'm thankful for any help at all.
edit: It might be helpful to know that I'm on a 13" mbp (early 2011) running OS X v. 10.6.8

  • After installing or uninstalling a program or after installing a Windows update requiring a reboot, I lose Firefox and have to reboot a second time.

Am running VistaSP2 on a Dell E520 with a Kaspersky based AV program. Ever since I installed the latest version of Firefox I find that when I install or uninstall a new app (e.g. Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Skype, Windows Messenger, etc.) or when I install an update from any source that requires a reboot, I find that Firefox will not start. Even the UAC confirmation window will not open. I have to perform a second reboot to be able to open Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and it does not help.

Which is it, hanging or crashing, or both?

Hey, There are afew things you can try.
    - Simply turn your phone off and back on again
    - Hold down your home button and your lock button and let goes as soon as the screen goes black (Phone will power down) - Then turn on your phone and hey presto!
    - Back up your iPhone to your PC, then restore it..
this ones last cause I think you may have tried it already..
    - Close all open applications
    Hope this helps!

  • Solaris 8 in ultra 2 got panic and auto reboot when install Oracle software

    Dear all,
I installed Solaris 8 by selecting 'Entire Solaris Software Group' and select 32 bit support only in an old ultra II machine. Then I tried to install Oracle 8.1.7 in the same machine but machine always got panic and started auto reboot when Oracle installed about 17% or 20% or even 70% (I tried install the minimum of Oracle).
What is the problem? Anyone can help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vicky

I think you need to check the parameters like SHMMAX etc in /etc/system file as recommanded by oracle if not already added you need to add them .Oracle manuals have a list of these parameters and don't forget to reboot and boot with boot -r after adding these parameters.
Make sure you have sufficient memory or some patch recommanded by Oracle .

  • Why does Firefox require a reboot after uninstallation?

Basically, my problem was already asked here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/916857
But that thread is marked as "solved", when in fact this problem is nowhere near being solved, so I am asking it again in a new, "unsolved" thread.
In former times Firefox never needed a reboot, and it does not make any sense because no Firefox-related file should be in use at the time of uninstallation. (Forget about updating in my case; I am doing a clean uninstall, and Firefox insists in rebooting anyway.)
Windows reboots due to software uninstallations are generally only required in the following cases:
    * If files that belong to Windows are being modified. I hope Firefox does no such thing...
    * Part of the software being uninstalled is still running, so that its files are in use. However, I completely closed Firefox and even used the task manager to make sure no firefox-related processes were running.
Some applications (i.e. Adobe Reader) install fancy "Speed Launchers" that are loaded at boot time and stay resident in memory. Unless these processes are manually killed before uninstallation, they may also be the reason why a reboot is necessary. However, Firefox should not do such a thing.
To summarize it, the question is: '''Which part of Firefox is running during uninstallation so that removal of the corresponding files is required?
Generally, I consider this a very bad software behavior, one that I would expect from some commercial software producer who wants to install his speedlaunch or logging stuff on my computer, but not from a free project like this one.
Firefox Portable does not do this, easily proving that technically it is not necessary. Earlier versions of Firefox also refrained from doing such a thing.
A piece of software requesting a reboot without good reason is what I consider a bug.

Aw, c'mon. Writing to the Windows registry never requires a reboot. This is ridiculous.
And Firefox did not need that bad behavior up to version 8 either. Why now?
This is not a Windows issue. You cannot alter files in Linux either if they are currently locked. The thing is that there is no sensible reason for any Firefox-related files to be locked at uninstallation time, which is why there should be no problem removing them.
I do not mean to rant, even though I am disappointed by this new behavior and would like to have it changed, but the least thing I really would like to know is exactly what is causing this. Why have the new versions of Firefox been programmed to require a reboot? Exactly which files need to be removed or changed that cannot be removed/changed during regular uninstallation, so that their removal/change needs to be scheduled for the next restart of Windows?

  • Lumia 1520 reboots when front camera is used

Hi all, I picked up an international version of the Lumia 1520 a couple of weeks back in India and I just realized that the phone reboots when ever I try to use the front camera. This is happening with all apps. The apps that i have tried till now are as follows
OneShot, Nokia Camera, Default camera app and Camera360.
The reboot happens with all the apps only when I try to use the front camera. I have tried hard resetting the phone but that too has not solved the problem. I have seen a couple of discusstions on this topic over here but none of them contained any helpful replies.
The handset is running the Lumia Black update. I'm wondering if this is a hardware issue or software issue. If it is a software issue I dont mind waiting for a patch, but if it is a hardware issue then I have no option but to reutrn to it. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I purchased a Nokia Lumia 1520 from Snapdeal. 2 days after using the phone, I inserted an SD card for data transfer and it didn't work with the phone. I tried to format the SD card as per Nokia forums and also tried to reset the phone but to no help. I took the handset to Nokia Care (Net Dot Solutions, Tilak Nagar, Delhi) and they tried to do a software upgrade but to no help.
I submitted the brand new working phone and the Nokia care kept it for 15 days. The only reply I ever got from them was that the set is in the factory with no status update at all. After 15 days I got response from Nokia care that the Phone is warranty devoid and not covered under warranty any more. There was no specific reason given for the warranty being devoid.
When I went to collect the set, it had minor scratches on the screen, which were not there when the set was submitted. The support personnel said that these are very minor and expected to be there. Very Strange! Also upon using the phone after I got it back from Nokia Care, I found that the front Camera is not working and the phone crashes each time the Camera is opened. Also the Auto-Brightness control (probably due to its sensor) is also not working.
Nokia care has damaged my phone in the 15 days they had it. Who is to be held responsible. And now they say my phone is warranty devoid and I need to pay for any repairs.
    NOKIA Care - Disgusting!

  • Rebooting when turning off and percentage problems

i have downloaded 3.1.3 and since then when i turn my iphone on in the morning my percentage will show the wrong amount, then when i unlock it a second later it will jump to the right percentage, an example is this morning i knew it was at about 45% but i turned on the iphone and it said 19% and a warning flashed up that i was at 20% then when i unlocked it it jumped back to 45%, it is so annoying..also it reboots when i turn it off at night which ruins my usage and standby times..and yes i have tried everything even restoring to a new iphone..anyone else having this? im going to send feedback i urge everyone else too.

It's very many reason that can cause this type of Trap. ( CD-rom version, OBP version, FC-problem - that can be found on support.oracle.com just to click... )
Part of this already fixed via patch.
Core and unix files can help analyse reason of it. Crash Analysis tool - tool that can help.
But even you close one problem, you can steel another. It's reason for install recommended patches.
Analyze system state before this problem - can help test that problem was resolved.
( Hostid; Kernel architecture; Hostname - generaly not provide any usefull information... It's more usefull - what real hardware system (M5000 ; v240 etc ... What changed before, connected hardware etc).

  • Updates that require multiple reboots - any additions to KB2894518?

    Hi there,
I have more than one cusotmer that deploy Software Updates as part of their BaC and OSD task sequences in SCCM. In these cases I make sure to exclude the updates listed in
KB2894518. In addition I am excluding KB2871690 and KS2920189 as mentioned in
this post by Nash Pherson over at myITforum.
Now I am suspecting that there are more updates requiring double reboots as the customers TS seems to be breaking after the installation of updates by way of a double reboot.
Do you know of any more updates that causes the TS to break?
    Thanks,
    Terje

Yes, but I am not confident that any of the Aug. 12th updates is the culprit.
Make sure you have excluded all the updates listed in the posts I like to above. Watch the screen while the Task Sequence reboots your client after the SUP stage. When the client is booting, you will see "configuring updates" and then a "spontaneous" boot
    outside of SCCMs control.
We are working on some systematic testing to narrows down which update(s) it might be, but that takes a fair amount of time. Hope to get to the bottom of it this week.

  • I need desperate help with Itunes for the SLVR

I have a set playlist for Itunes to take songs from and put onto my phone when it is connected. That playlist has 56 songs, but when I click autofill, it only puts 31 songs down. As I add more songs to the playlist however, it only takes certain ones. For example, for every 7 songs I download into the playlist, it only takes 2 or 3. The phone has tons of space but I don't know, need desperate help, thanks in advance.

i know i have the same problem the only one thing i have noticed that is consistant along with this problem is that songs that will not go on it are all of them have a higher bit rate than songs that do go on the phone but thats the only real thing i can notice so if someone can show me how to lower the bit rate if its possible that might be the miracle cure
