DESPERATE... Indesign won't open most of my Indesign files???

Sorry if my message sounds panicked but I am going out of my mind with worry. I am working late on a deadline to get a job done, my inDesign has decided to give me the following message when I open any of the many 100 inDesign files I have made: 'Cannot open the file "nameof file.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
Please can anyone tell me what is going on. I am sitting at my desk in tears. If I don't make my morning deadline i'm fcked!!!! to be quite blunt :-(
Does anyone know how to fix this? Everything was working up until about an hour ago and a old inDesign files work but not the ones that I need.
Help me, i'm seriously in despair here :-( :-( :-(

Sounds very much like these files were edited with a newer version of ID
than you're using.
What version are you using? If it's earlier than CS3, you can email me
one of the files that won't open and I'll try it here. If I can open it,
I'll let you know what the history of the file is.
Click my name, go to my website and you'll find contact info there.

  • GB '09 won't open ANY of my song files

I have a Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz iMac and have been using GB '09. The hard drive recently died so Apple put a new one in. I cloned my 15" MBP to the iMac and now GB '09 won't open any of my song files. I already tried deleting the GB files in Library/Preferences, and I have reinstalled iLife '09 once already and nothing has worked.
In the process of troubleshooting I even created a brand new song file and saved it to the desktop. I quit GB and then restarted it and tried to open the file I just created seconds ago and I get an error message saying:
The document "My Song.band" could not be opened.
Thay's it. No further info to help me try to figure out why. I've got about half a dozen third-party plugins but I'd rather not start monkeying around with them if I don't have to. I was hoping someone out there has had this happen and knows how to fix it. I know there are various pref and cache files squirreled around on the hard drive, just don't know exactly where and which ones are safe to delete to try and fix this problem.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, problem solved. I tried trashing the test song file I created and got a message that "The item will be deleted immediately". This made me think there were some hard drive permission issues which may be causing my GB problem. I Google around the internet and found the cause and solution.
It seems I didn't have write access to my own "Home" folder on the HD. Pretty odd, but that was the case. I did a "Get Info" (Cmd+I) on my home folder and added my primary user with Read and Write privileges. After that, files I deleted would just sit in the trash as normal and I was able to open my song files in GB.
Here's a link to solution that I found:

  • Audition won't open an MPEG 2 (.mpg) file states

audition won't open an MPEG 2 (.mpg) file states it is either corrupt or unsupported. On a windows 7 system I have DLMS enabled and still can't get it to work.
    Thanks,!!

You haven't said which version of Audition you are using. From the appropriate Adobe page:
Adobe Audition 3 can not open MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files. An earlier version of Audition, Adobe Audition 2.0, could read MPEG files only if it was installed as a part of the Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio software suite. (Audition does not include the software license required to encode and decode MPEG files; the license was a part of Production Studio.)
I'm not sure about whether Audition CS5.5 will, but I think that CS6 and CC should.
Or perhaps your file is corrupted!

  • My Muse file won't open: "This Adobe Muse site file requires a newer version of Adobe Muse. Please update to the latest version."

My final project for this quarter in a web design class is due in less than a week. And suddenly, after months of working with this exact file, it won't open. I'm trying to open it in CC (newest version of Muse) at school. At home, I downloaded a trial version of it. I would think the trial version would be the absolute newest version..and even if it wasn't, why can't the even newer version open it? PLEASE help me. And, what do I do if my trial version has expired (I'm not home right now, so I can't check..) and I can't open it to fix it (if that's what I needed to do..)?
Note: at school we have CC, always updated. At home I have CS6, but downloaded a trial version of Muse. So, I would think the trial version would be the newest and CC not CS6. I don't know, though!
Note: is there a way to extend my trial version for, like, an hour, to retrieve this file? It would absolutely suck if I can't get it back now. I've spent a long time on this.

Could you please send me the muse file to [email protected] along with a link to this thread. If they're larger than 20Mb you can use a service like Adobe SendNow, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc.
so that I may check and help in getting this resolved?

  • Pages '09 won't open my AWK or DOC files

I've bought iWork '09 to future proof myself against the day I finally have to abandon a computer running Snow Leopard + Rosetta (I can still run AppleWorks and Word 2001 on my present machine but that won't always be the case).
However, now I'm beginning to regret it. Every document from AppleWorks 6 or Word 2001 (or Word 97 onwards ".doc" saved by TextEdit) will not open in Pages. I get a message, "The document __________ cannot be opened". I've tried both dragging the files onto the Pages icon in the dock, and by using Open in Pages.
Yet Pages will open a Simple Text document (albeit with a lot of "garbage" where the formatting was), and it opens TextEdit RTF documents, and I can grab and insert any jpeg into it.
But I bought the suite on the grounds that it will open AW6 and Word .doc files ... yet it won't! What has gone wrong?

Consider continuing to run Appleworks in Lion or Mt. Lion with Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) installed into Parallels:

  • Itunes won't open - get message that .itl file cannot be found or created

My HP laptop with windows just crashed, and I'm trying to get everything back to working order. I reloaded itunes and it seemed to be working fine. Then at some point, I went to open it and received the messsage:
The itunes library .itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "itunes" folder in the "Music" folder.
I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times, to no avail. The program won't open and I continue to get the same error message.

Check the permissions in that folder and make sure you have full read/WRITE privileges.

  • FCP won't open one of its own files.

    Hi, everyone.
I have an fcp project that I need to update and modify. I tried opening it, and I got "File Error: Wrong Type". I read this previous post...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8398246&#8398246
...and followed its suggestions. I quit fcp, and tried to open the file again (without the application already being opened). No luck.
Also as suggested, I saved the project file as a txt document, then change it back to an fcp document and open that. No luck again. I get "Unable to open project file".
These remedies worked for the original poster in the discussion, but they haven't worked for me. Anyone have any other ideas?
By the way, this project was created in 2006 on this computer that I'm still using, and with this version of FCP that I'm using -- so I can't fathom why it won't open.
    Thanks!

do you want to send me the file and I'll see if I can open it. My email is in my profile. Please "compress" the file before attaching to email

  • Itunes won't open because it says the file was created by a newer version

I just got a new hard drive for my computer and the new operating system but now my itunes won't open and it says something about how the file can't be opened because it was created with a newer version. Help!

    Which operating system version?
    iTunes 10.7 - http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    iTunes 10.6.3.25 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575

  • IWeb won't open-cannot find "index.xml" file

I've been having kernel panics lately and ran off my hard drive to another Mac (iMac) -not using migration assistant-and upon returning back to my main computer (MacBook Pro) and after diligently saving my Domain file, iWeb won't open because it cannot find the "index.xml". I have the site up on my idisk and when I open up the package in Domain, there's plenty in there. How do I get back to where I was-an iWeb site that I can manipulate.
Any way I can get what I do still have to work? Or do I have to make my site from scratch again even though I have loads of files all over the place and only this one missing?
I think Apple needs to tell us "how" and "what" to save when we need to vacate a computer because of kernel panics and the like-wouldn't you say? I ALWAYS suffer from something missing when I have to put the OS back on the computer from scratch-not to mention hours of wasted time downloading updates again and having to find keycodes and various application discs!

    Welcome to the discussions, RPashman.
I got this message before when I was editing multiple Domain.sites. I believe it happened when I tried to Publish when the Domain was not in the iWeb folder. During the Publish, it places a Domain file in the iWeb folder (maybe because it has to publish from there even though the actual file is elsewhere??) and if anything goes wrong, iWeb when it next opens will default to that improperly created Domain.sites file.
Check in the iWeb directory (Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites
) and see how large the Domain.sites file is. If it's something under a meg, then maybe this is what happened to you. Move it out of that directory (I held mine just in case) then relaunch iWeb. Since there's not a Domain.sites file there anymore, it should ask if you want to create one or open an existing one.
Not sure if this happened to you, but it's possible. It happened to this user as well.

  • Firefox won't open, want to find bookmarks file and save it

I have a laptop with Vista that is hopelessly crashed. Firefox will NOT open on this machine at all. Before the machine is wiped I would like to find the bookmarks file on the C: drive and save it, hopefully to restore it on my home desktop. Where do I find this file? How would I restore it?
To note: I have already tried importing my Firefox bookmarks into IE, but that won't work either - Firefox seems to be hopelessly corrupted on this machine.

    Hi Swarnava,
Thanks for your help so far!
How do I identify the version or Firefox, please? It won't open via the shortcut or clicking Open in All Programs. When I right click the logo in All Programs and click on Properties, the 3 tabs there don't tell me the version of Firefox.
    I'm using Windows XP.
Since I can't open my version of Firefox I don't see a Bookmarks or other Firefox tabs to follow the directions at backing up/recovering Bookmarks in the bottom of the article you kindly referred me to.
When I copy %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ into Search and get to my profile there are Bookmarks and Bookmarks Backup files. I get an error message when I try to open them.

  • My epub file won't open, I've had other files of the same type from apple which have opened in sony reader.

So, I bought a book, and it won't open on reader.
I have bought other books in the past which have opened and hav worhed without any problems, but this oe won't

In your last post here, you also had the same problem with the cover, which I think was due to the CMYK mode settings. Now I have no idea if iBooks doesn't display cover images that are CMYK, but usually images should be RGB (or Grayscale) in EPUB in order for them to display in ADE and Nook.
Are there any other problems in the EPUB, i.e. other than the cover?

  • Adobe won't open my itunes download dmg file

I am trying to hook up my new ipad to my old macbook. It says I have to download new itunes. When I do, my Adobe Reader won't open the dmg document for me to finish the download.

Did you move only your music, or did you move the *iTunes Library.itl* and *iTunes Music Library.xml* files as well? These files are the files iTunes recognizes as your library. If you did move the library files, where did you put them? By default, iTunes looks for these files in c:\users\my documents\my music\itunes (I think that's the right path for Vista).
If you moved these files to another location, you can point iTunes to it by holding the shift key when starting iTunes. You will then be asked where your library is. Simply browse to the iTunes Library.itl file is and your library should open.
