Desperately Need Help: Why won't remote desktop work w/VPN to a PC?

I am seriously losing my mind and the IT people at my job are clueless. I am not that sophisticated but, when it comes to macs, I might as well be a genius in comparison to them. At work I have a PC running Windows Vista. I have installed on my Mac (running Mavericks) VPN through Netextender. I can connect to VPN with no problems. However, when I try to login thru remote desktop, it tells me my work computer cannot be reached. My work computer is most certainly on and reachable. I desperately need to figure this out!! Please help!

Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with USB in your Lenovo B50-30 laptop.
Try to connect other USB devices like pen drive, external HDD and check if that is been recognized,
Try to boot the system into safe mode and check for the issue.

Why doesn't remote desktop work on mavericks ?

I'm trying to connect to a small (10) local network of imacs all running Mavericks 10.9.3. I'm using Remote Desktop over Bonjour and also trying to share an iTunes library using Home sharing. None of the computers will respond. I get an error (-3170) on the target computers for the home sharing and RD tells me they're all sleeping when I can see perfectly well that they are awake and logged in. They all have RD client 3.7.1 installed but the response I get from RD when I try to wake them is 'this is not supported on these computers'.
Apple, what is going on ? This system worked wonderfully well under 10.6.8 and now it's completely screwed with Mavericks. Frustrating the **** out of me as none of it seems logical in the least, especially as all the computers respond readily via the 'Go/connect to server/browse/connect method'. They are obviously all connected it's just this new OS just doesn't work. Really disappointing :-(

You may have to contact Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE or contact an Apple Store directly.
I am no expert on this particular Apple software.

Help why won't flash player work??

I got a Nokia lumia for Christmas, its saying flash player is installed but it won't work. It says it may be disabled or something about ActiveX, but i don't know how to sort it out, Anyone able to help please?

login with the admin account and uninstall
then login with your normal account and install the latest
flash player, it's the newest on the flash player 9 package.. Don't
forget to close all browser windows before installing.
To be on the safe side, uninstall the flash player using this
package

Be aware of this:
Note: Internet Explorer users may have to reboot to clear all
uninstalled Flash Player ActiveX control files. If you're not

Desperately need help getting Flash music player to work correctly!

I'm working up a Flash template for a site that has a music player for 3 different tracks. The template came with 3 separate fla files for each track (Music1.fla, Music2.fla and Music3.fla), which I opened and imported my own mp3's into, set them to repeat only once, and then published the swf's. The music player works fine, but when the first song ends, the music stops unless you click on the next music track in the player. I'd like to have it where after the first song finishes it automatically starts playing the next song, then when it finishes the 3rd and final song it goes back to song one. How can I do this? Is it as easy as inserting some Actionscript into the Music fla's or would it have to be fixed in the player itself on the site's fla?

K, give this a shot.
All you need to do is duplicate the code on the buttons in the sound controller that load the three songs. So on the last frame of music1.fla, enter -
path="music2.swf";
loadMovieNum(path,1);
Do the same for the other music flas using the next song number. You may have to add _root. before the loadMovieNum command, so it would be:
_root.loadMovieNum(path,1);
This will only work if the mp3s are imbedded in the music flas. You will have to add a zillion frames to the timeline to see where the audio file ends, create a keyframe there and enter code on the keyframe.

Try this fix discovered by User photosb189:
From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
Select Library from the drop down menu
Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets
Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress
Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)
Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud
Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option
Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder
Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON
iPhoto should now be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old), unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto.

For Starters: I am on OSX 10.9.2 and am trying to use mail 7.2.

I cannot send. I have been at this for hours and hours and hours. Here are the details.
my mail server however is s1.sistercompany.net
I can receive email just fine. I can also send mail just find having set this up on my iphone and also in thunderbird (which i hate hate hate hate hate hate hate, which is why I am desperate to set up mail)
The settings in thunderbird are as follows:
Servername: s1.sistercompany.net
port: 465
Authentication method: normal password
Connection Security: SSL/TLS
However, I just can't get this to work in Mail. When I write an email and hit send I get a popup that says:
Cannot send message using the server s1.sistercompany.net
The certifcate for this server is invalid.
Now, my tech guy says yeah the certifacte is invalid because you are going through sistercompany server, there should be some way to just accept the certifcate anyway (but he has never used mail before).
So I have serached around and come up with this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11706
Which tells me to use the verify certificate dialogue, which I would do except there is no verify certificate dialog. Any thoughts?

I don't have a problem watching the Lost episode on abc.com, using a stock MacBook with 512MB RAM. I don't know what technology abc.com uses in their viewer, but I have Flip4Mac and the latest version of Flash player installed.

Desperately needs help burning DVD from iPhoto

I am using iPhoto 6.0.6. I desperately need help burning a DVD of a slide show that I created for my daughter's wedding.
I put several songs together by opening them and then combining them using QuickTime Pro. I imported the audio into iTunes and created a slide show using iPhoto. The slide show is perfect! The slides are finally in sink with the music just as I want them! But I don't know how to burn the slide show as a DVD.
I tried exporting the video from iPhoto to my computer, but at the end of the export, I get this message: please note that the music included in the slideshow can only be played on authorized machines. And when I try to play the video (after the export), most of the music on the video cannot be heard. When I try to authorize my machine, I am told that it's already authorized.
If someone would send detailed instructions on how to proceed, I would greatly appreciate it.

Is your problem the DRM audio tracks you purchased from iTunes store?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Well it all started with Aperture 3 trying to import some photos from my iphone.It took ages to import those photos and like I was in a hurry to finish my work in Illustrator so I tryied to force quit on A3 and it didn´t, so I shut down the computer and started over.it was all ok but I uninstalled the A3 and the I realized the icons were back to original form and a few fonts changed.so I Installed the trial version of A3.I did a restart of the system and then there was.aperture lauching but no dock and a 80% of the icons disappeared, but the names of the files and folder remained.and I cand acces the apps from the apple sign on the left corner.I tried also restarting a few time but it´s always the same.I am a recent user of a mac , and please excuse my bad english.If this is in any way useful please help me!

Are you sure you have the right pin for your other friend? Try deleting the contact and re-adding them. Also, BBM has to be approved in the countries of both parties.

When I turn on the system I hear a loud squeaking noise that could be coming from the hard drive, it does it for moment then a blank white screen appears w/ a tiny folder in the middle of the screen with a "?" blinking on and off on the folder. I never had any problems until now. What can I do, any suggestions.

Yes, it sounds like your hard drive is bad. Do you have access to techtools or Disk Warrior? either of these may be able to repair the drive enough to extract your info from it, if disk utility can't.
I know that there are shops that specialize in extracting info from bad hard drives, but they tend to be pretty expensive. I am sure others on this forum will be able to help you find one if you are interested.
