Despite setting a Home Page Firefox always opens in the last page viewed. How do I solve this?

I have followed the instructions for setting a Home Page. Firefox always opens in the last page I viewed. Clicking on the Home icon does take me to my Home Page once Firefox has opened.

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.
Your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

  • My homepage is set to google, but firefox always open to the previous page I was on. How do I fix this problem??

I have my homepage set to Google, but after I have closed the browser and come back to open it up another time, it goes tot he previous page I was on. I have checked all my settings and it shows that I have it set up properly, but it refuses to work.

Google may have put in a program that overrides what you want.
It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Open your '''Add-ons Manager <Control><Shift > A''' and make sure you
know what each one is and what it does.
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause
Firefox issues. '''Disable All of them.'''
Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
    '''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.

  • Firefox always opens with the last page from previous session. Setting this right (e.g. changing this to start up with blank or startup page) in Options/General, doesn't work.

All these "solutions" that have been offered to go to your settings and set your option to go to home page are 1.) not working and 2.) kind of a"duh". How many of us do you think have been set up like that for a few years now? And yet all of a sudden (i.e. new version of Firefox that apparently needs a little more testing...), this problem is occurring. It's getting really annoying too. We have defined home pages for a reason. Please correct this so we can return to them when we log in.

  • My opening page won't load the home page even though I set it to home page in preferences.  Instead it always opens to the last page I had when I last closed.  I'd like it to open to my home page.  I've tried dumping and reloading Safari, I have 5.1.2.

My Safari 5.1.2 Just won't open to my home page even though I have it set in preferences.  It continues to open on the last page I was on when I last closed Safari.  What overrides my settings in preferences?

I just purchased my first MAC after working on PC for the past 25 years and would like to know how to keep my safari program to be the full screen everytime I get into the app. I always have to click the two arrows to the top right of the safari program but on a PC it is always opened in full screen mode ??? and while I have you plugged in how do you make it so that the manu bar does not go away (hyernate??)
    Cheers

  • The Yahoo password in the mail settings of all my Apple devices has reverted to an old version and, no matter what I try, following advice from the community, it always returns to the old password.  How can I solve this issue?

The Yahoo password in the mail setting on all my apple devices - iPad, iPhone 5, mini iPad - has permanently reverted to an old version.  I have tried all the suggestions provided by the community so far but nothing works. When I delete the account and re-enter the details, the updated password is recognised and seems to save but, when I go back into the account, the old password is the one that is there.
I am desperate! How can I solve this issue please?

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening with the last site I was on when I closed instead of using my home page?

whenever I open firefox after closing it down, it always opens with the last page I was on. I have the settings to point to a specific homepage and have it set to always open on the homepage, but it doesn't.

I am having a similar problem, I'm using "Show my home page" on start-up but firefox decides to always open to the last page visited regardless. I also generally close Firefox using the red X or with alt+f4. This problem is especially annoying when the last page 'visited' is an annoying pop-up ad that wasn't been caught by the pop-up blocker.

  • Safari always opens at the last web page viewed. How can I make google the default opening page?

On my iphone 4, safari always opens at the last page viewed. Does anyone know how I can set it to always open at google?

You can't but you can navigate to Google and add that to your homescreen as a shortcut.  Press the arrow on the bottom.

  • My firefox always opens at my last visited website, instead of my homepage. I have checked my setting, and have set it according but still it keeps doing the same thing

Firefox keeps opening at the last visited site; even though the option for the home page are set to open at google/firefox. I have changed the option also to blank page but still the same results.

Make sure that you close Firefox properly to prevent session restore from restoring the previous session automatically.
    See "Hang at exit":

Set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes] to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.

Safari is opening using the resume feature. To disable that, quit Safari using Command+Option+Q or Hold Option when choosing the menu item Safari>Quit.

I just downloaded Lion.  Now when I open Safari, it automatically opens to the last page visited.  How do I reset it to open to a blank page as it did previously?

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • How to get safari to open to the last page I was on and screens to enlarge automatically?

Hello, I just upgraded to the latest iMac version from my 2010 model, and whenever I close and open up safari it opens to top siotes instead of the last page I was on, and every time I open it I have to enlarge it myself by clicking the arrows in the top right. Same happens with everything else, like the app store. How do I change this so whenever I go to safari it opens to the last page I was on and has safari, app store, etc. have large screens right away? I set up my old iMac 3 years ago, and I guess I must've done something to have it do this, but I forgetn what I did. Thank you in advance

    Hello there, Clumn.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some general tips for Mavericks that may address your issue:
    OS X Mavericks: General preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph13803
    Particularly of note:
Close windows when quitting an application
If you quit apps with windows still open on your screen, selecting this checkbox prevents the windows from reopening automatically the next time you start their app.
This feature when not selected will allow the application to reopen windows automatically when you open the app.
Additionally, this article provides information on how to set windows Full Screen:

  • Why does safari 5.1 open with the last page from previous session?

I don't want Safari 5.1 to open with the last page from the previous session.  How do I stop it?

I too would like to manually or automatically open the windows and tabs I had open from the previous session, but I want to configure this per application.  In a browser for instance, I can have many windows and tabs open and it can take a lot of time to refresh them all. I would like to manually pick the windows/tabs I want to reopen. Before Lion I could restore the last session manually and I liked that ability. Firefox has a plugin for this And what if I reboot with no internet access, they all time out. With a word processor, spreadsheet, or xcode on the other hand, I like to start where I left off. Everything comes from local disk so the restart is fast. I want to control this by app, not globally. Sometime Apple can really be blind to the real needs of users, and that is to configure their envoronment the way the user needs, not the way Apple envisions the need of users.
So Apple, please give ME the opportunity to choose the apps that auto reload the last sesion and give me a manual way to reload the last session on all apps that qualify.

When I click on a link, I want the tab to open at the far right. How can I do this?

hello kipurr, you can enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent''' and double-click & change its value to '''false'''.
