So is the database really started when you get that error message? Someone or something (a script?) may start the database.

  • Clone A Database Instance on a different mount point.

    Hello Gurs,
I need you help as I need to clone a 11.1.0.7 database instance to a NEW mount point on the same host. The host is a HP-UX box and my question is do I need to install oracle database software in this new mount point and then clone ?? or cloning to the NEW MOUNT point itself will create all the necessary software?. Please provide me any documents that will be helpful for the process.
    Thanks In Advance.

or cloning to the NEW MOUNT point itself will create all the necessary software?.No: cloning a database on same host means cloning database files : it does not mean cloning Oracle executables. You don't need to clone ORACLE_HOME on same host.
Please provide me any documents that will be helpful for the process.

  • How can I set my database instance to start in OPEN mode after my computer

    Hi all,
Sometime, I have to reboot my computer. After it rebooted, my instance is automaticaly executed. But, my database is not set to the OPEN mode (automaticaly). On some development computers, my status is set to OPEN after a reboot. On some computers, the local database is set to the IDLE instance.
How can I set my database instance to start in OPEN mode after my computer has rebooted?
    Thank your for any help.

but i could not run command emctl start dbconsolor lsnrctl..
What error you are getting? If you are not able to run both of them then the ORACLE_HOME is not set properly.
i set oracle_home and oracle_sid in thereWhere? Is it set in your user variable part of system variable. It is good to set it in the system variable, so that it will be common for all the users who use the system.
To check whether the variable is set or not go to the command prompt and type
setIf you see your ORACLE_HOME variable then it is set or else not.

  • Database instance: You are not a member of the specified Installer group

    Hi,
When I start ./RUNINSTALLER in HP-UX to install oracle, as a part of database instance instalation of SAP, the following message appeared.
"The Oracle Universal Installer Inventory on this system does not exist or is not writable. the possible cause are:
            1. The /tmp/orainstRoot.sh script was not executed with root priveleges, or an error occured during  execution
            2.  You are not a member of the specified Installer group"
Mention that I have executed the script by root user without any error.
Requesting your kind help to solve the problem.

    Hi,
I am trying to install oracle 9i as required by SAP ECC 5.0. Instance name is PRD as disaster recovery will be tested in that system. In the same time our SOLMAN is running in that system with database oracle 10g. We are planning to run parallel process in same time SOLMAN and DR PRD.
Till now we have done SAP Central instance installation. While trying to install database instance SAP asked to go /oracle/stage/920_64/Disk1/SAP and run the script RUNINSTALLER in HP-UX system for oracle.
To do this I have done the following
    a. Logged on the system as oraprd
    b. Set up environmental variable
              ORACLE_HOEM to /oracle/PRD/920_64
DISPLAY to My work station IP:0.0
    and started OS> ./RUNINSTALLER
After some time a window appeared headed by "Inventory Location"
I Specified base directory /oracle/oraInventory and pressed OK.
Then a window asked to run script /tmp/orainstRoot.sh by root user and then press continue
The script run successfully by user root. But when I press continue the following message appeared.
The Oracle universal Installer Inventory on this system does not exist or is not writable. The possible cause are:
            1.  /tmp/orainstRoot.sh script was not executed with root priveleges or an error occured during execution.
            2.  You are not a member of the specified Installer group.
Please help me how can I resolved the problem.

  • Database Instance Install - Does not find Oracle Home

I'm installing SolMan on distributed servers. Oracle 10.20.2 was installed /oracle/product/10.2 (shared db server for sandbox environment); I've set $ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2; but SAPINST does not detect and wants to install Oracle under /oracle.
What can I do to have SAPINST see $ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2? Is the /oracle hard-coded in the installation? Any suggetsion would be great.

you probably have not installed Oracle with SAP parameters because your ORACLE_HOME should be set as /oracle/[SID]/102_64

  • Databases instances stuck in MOUNT MODE after srvctl start database -d

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can shed some light on why the following scenario is happening in our environment.
We have a 4 node site, configured with RAC on nodes 1 & 2 and dataguard shipping the logs to a standby physical cluster
    database on nodes 3 & 4.
    Our issue is this:
When the database instances on nodes 1 & 2 are stopped and restarted using this command sequence
    srvctl stop database -d SOCPRODCAV
    srvctl start database -d SOCPRODCAV
each database instance gets started up only as far as MOUNT mode.
The databases are not opened and i have to go in and do this manually for each instance.
The above command sequence used to successfully restart the database and leave it open for use so i'm wondering how the start
mode has been changed and if there is an area of configuration or view anyone can guide me to look at it.
I provide remote DBA support for this client's and it is possible that another onsite DBA may have changed something.
    Any pointers gratefully received.
    Regards,
    George

    See current configuration as follows
srvctl config database -d SOCPRODCAV -aThis should show you current startup/stop settings as follows
    Start options: open
    Stop options: immediate
Now you can change current settings if Start option is not "open"
srvctl modify database -d SOCPRODCAV -s OPENReference

  • Maximum number of database instance on Exadata V2

Does any body know maximum of database instance can starting on Exadata V2, haft rack configuration. I can start only 13 instance but when start instance 14 it failed. I had try to increased number of semaphore but still not work.

I would expect that the maximum number of instances would be covered by sanity rather than something Oracle has configured.
Given that you've not posted the actual error message my recommendation would be that you either provide us with a lot more
information or that you open an SR with MOS.
Please also explain how you came to the presumption that the issue was semaphores.

  • Listener (and database instance) does not starts up automatically: ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

Hi at all.... I'm a newbie with database oracle.,
    I have the follow problem:
I installed Oracle Database 11g R2 XE on my guest operating system CentOS 6.5.
I have changed  the hostname in my SO CentOS (where is installed oracle 11g R2 XE) after installation was completed successfully.
-) Before and during installation the hostname was localhost.
-) After installation I changed the hostname in VMCentOS
From the moment I changed the hostname, nothing starts up automatically. In particular, the listener and the database instance does not starts up automatically.
When I starts up the listener manually and I try to connect to database instance with SQLPLUS i get this error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
I think that the problem is due to the changed hostname because I, for testing and debugging purpose, re-installed a new OS CentOS virtual machine, re-installed oracle database 11g and  I have not got that problem. The database instance and the listener starts up automatically!
Can any one tell me if maybe the problem is related to the hostname changed? ... and Why?
P.S.: After changed the hostname I have also modified the listener.ora and the tnsnames.ora by modifying the HOST with the correct hostname.

  • Windows could not start DBConsole for new database instance

    Hi,
I am getting this error "Windows could not start the OracleDBConsoleOracleInstance2 on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the system vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 1".
I installed Oracle 11g on Windows 7 and created my 1st database instance (oracleInstance1) successfully with a listener and service configured. I could access this database using DBconsole URL: https://hostname:1158/em.
I see the services started for:
    OracleDBConsoleOracleInstance1
    OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
    OracleServiceOracleInstance1
Next, I created a second database instance (oracleInstance2) and have configured a new service for this database. I am using the same listener as I intend to use one database instance at any point of time.
However, I got this warning message during configuration:
"Enterprise manager configuration succeeded with the following warning - Error starting Database Control. Please execute the following command(s).
    1. Set the environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME to Database unique name.
    2. C:\Oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin\emctl.bat start dbconsole"
To start the new database console, I stopped the previously running DBConsole, OracleDBConsoleOracle1 and started the new DBConsole OracleDBConsoleOracle2 and get the above error.
When I try to start dbconsole manually using "emctl dbconsole start", it starts OracleDBConsoleOracle1 instead.
    I changed environment variables ORACLE_SID=oracle2 and ORACLE_UNQNAME=oracle2
What am I missing here. Please help!
    Thank you.

What am I missing here. Please help!First thing you are missing is showing us what you did. Instead you just described it, and that leaves a lot of room for questions. Copy and paste from a command prompt can work wonders here.
From a command prompt, enter the following:
    set ORACLE_SID=oracle2
    set ORACLE_UNQNAME=oracle2
    set | sort
    net start
emctl start dbconsolecopy the entire session, commands and full responses, and paste back here.
    >
Thank you.Just to take a side road ...
"I am using the same listener as I intend to use one database instance at any point of time. "
Doesn't' matter if you use one instance or 100. The listener was DESIGNED to service multiple instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is nothing but a connection broker. A telephone switchboard, if you will. All you need is a single listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running on the default port of 1521. It will handle all the database instances you care to throw at it. More instances than anyone in their right mind would ever put on a single server. Your server will run out of capacity to host additional instances before the listener runs out of capacity to service them. Especially since your 'server' is really just a toy in the Oracle world.

  • When to restore controlfile, rman is complaining database not mounted?

to restore controlfile, shouldn`t the database be in NOMOUNT status?
if yes, then why rman is complaining ORA-01507?
where I went wrong? Please advise.

it doesn`t. I tried long before this one.
the dilemma i am facing is that I need to recover to the time which was included in incarnation 2.
And to be able to reset database to incarnation 2, i need to startup MOUNT the database.
And once you startup mount the database RESTORE CONTROLFILE won`t work any more.
below is the standard procedure, documented on 10gR2 doc, but still, i am getting errors:
Why it is throwing errors? HOw can I fix?

  • Enterprise Manager not able to connect to the Database Instance

After logging into the OEM as a SYS user , I was able to mount the database . The Database status shown to me as below,
    Listener - up
Agent Connection to the Instance - unavailable
Database instance- down - message - Enterprise Manager is not able to connect to the database instance.
After that I tried to connect to the database through sql developer , I was able to connect using connection for the SYS user and able to run the queries .d
So How can I be able to connect to the Database Instance using OEM ?
Please suggest me what to do or what to check ...
    Your help will be appreciated...

One cause of this problem is when the Oracle database is down & needs to be started.
A remote client send a request to the Listener asking to be connected to a specific service.
If/when the listener does not know anything about that service, the listener responds with ORA-12514
post results from the following two OS commands:
    lsnrctl status
    lsnrctl service
Since every connection request to the listener gets logged, listener.log file will contain a line with 12514 as status code.
This line contains valuable debugging details. So post this line & surrounding lines.
