Destination folder in Actions and Batch

I use Photoshop CS on a Mac G4 (PPC) with OS X 10.4.11.
I need to convert large folders of JPEGs with sRGB profile to Adobe RGB. I recorded an 'action' , which works fine, except for one thing. Here are the instructions from the Photoshop Help files:
To create a new action:
Open a file.
In the Actions palette, click the New Action button , or choose New Action from the Actions palette menu.
Enter a name for the action.
(Photoshop) Choose a set from the pop-up menu.
If desired, set one or both of the following options:
Assign a keyboard shortcut to the action. You can choose any combination of a Function key, the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac OS), and the Shift key (for example, Ctrl+Shift+F3), with these exceptions: In Windows, you cannot use the F1 key, nor can you use F4 or F6 with the Ctrl key.
(Photoshop) Assign a color for display in Button Mode.
Click Record. The Record button in the Actions palette turns red .
Important: When recording the Save As command, do not change the filename. If you enter a new filename, Photoshop records the filename and uses that filename each time you run the action. Before saving, if you navigate to a different folder, you can specify a different location without having to specify a filename.
Choose the commands, and perform the operations you want to record.
To stop recording, either click the Stop button, choose Stop Recording from the Actions palette menu, or press the Escape key. To resume recording in the same action, choose Start Recording from the Actions palette menu.
It's the 'Important:' bit under 6. that I'm concerned about If, when recording the action, I specify, say, 'Desktop' in which to 'Save As...', and then when I use the Batch command I specify a particular (different) destination folder, I end up with two lots of converted images: one lot in the destination folder, the other on the desktop. If, when recording the action, I specify a particular place to save in, then I can't (or can I?) use this action on another occasion when I haven't created a destination folder of that name and want to specify a new destination folder under 'Batch'. And if I specify the same destination folder in the recorded action and in 'Batch', I run into further trouble.
What is the right thing to do? Thank you in anticipation of help.

Sorry, something went wrong. Here is my question again:

  • Using actions and batch processing to maximize compatibility on old psd files

My apologies if this has been answered -- in my search I saw that it was asked multiple times, but not answered.
My goal is to be able to import 5 years of PSD files into Lightroom that were originally saved with maximize compatibility turned off. These files are in shoot folders within year folders.
I have been trying to do this with an action and batch processing through Bridge (Tools>PS>Batch). After switching preferences to MC=always, I have tried an action with a Save command, but that doesn't switch the file to max compat on. Save As does, but it also fixes the destination of the save in the action to a specific folder. I want to be able to overwrite the existing PSD file, leaving it where it is.
Has anyone successfully tackled this issue? I know I can handle it folder by folder, with an action for each folder, but that just wouldn't be cool.
    Thank you

L Show - Yes, I found a way and did just that.
Everything as you wrote, using the save-as option. Yes, it will put the folder name into the action BUT it will override it when you run your batch from bridge IF you check in the box "override action save-as command" (and destination: save and close).
Works like a charm (although slow - not utilizing the multiple cores :( )

  • Recording Actions and Batch Automation Issues

I'm not getting proper results when performing a batch automation on several images.
I've recorded an action performing several image modifications, these modifications are:
    1. I've set the Background layer and named it L1
2.I resized the image from 1600X1200 to 150X113
    3. I resized canvas size to 150X150
    4. I duplicated layer L1 and named it MIRROR
    5. I Transformed "MIRROR" layer by flipping it vertically
    6. I moved the "MIRROR" layer down until I obtain the proper mirror effect
    7. I saved the image as jpeg
    8. I stoped recording
    Now when I tryied doing:
Open several images of size 1600X1200/File/Automate/Batch
    with the following settings:
    -source: open files
-destination: folder (i chose a folder)
-Override action "Save as Commands" checked
The images were resized properly, the canvas size was correct layer was duplicated, and flipped vertically but MIRROR layer was not moved enough so I didn't get a perfect mirror effect.
There must be something wrong with the way I move my MIRROR layer when I record the action? Is there a way of moving an image by a number of pixels instead of using the keyboard arrows?
    Thanks for any help

    So it worked:
But now I have another challenging question.
How can i apply a gradient effect and have it recorded and apllied as automate/ batch to several images?
The effect I'm trying to obtain is this:
    steps I recorded are:
    1. Created a new layer and called it "background"
    2. I applied a gradient to "background" dragging the cursor from to to bottom and from middle to bottom again
    3. I arranged my layers so I can see the "mirror" layer
    4. I added a mask to the layer
    5. I applied gradient on the layer dragging the cursor from middle of image to bottom.
    I recorded the whole thing
It works on the original image in automate batch processing but for other images I get a white background or no change on the mirror layer???

  • Recorded Actions and Batch jobs

Photoshop has an Actions panel feature that allows you to record and save a set of commands (eg: resize an image to 400 x 600, then turn it black & white).  Anytime you want to perform the same set of commands, just select and run the saved Action.  In addition, Photoshop has a Batch jobs feature that allows you to select a directory of files and run the saved action on all files in the directory.  In this way, you could resize a thousand images to 400 x 600 and turn them all black & white with one click.
Does Captivate have any similar capability?  I have about 3,000 swf files and I wish to set the preloader percentage on all of them to the same value. I would hate to open, edit, save, and close the files manually one at a time.  If this feature does not exist, can you guys think of an efficient way to accomplish the task?
I have Captivate 5 but can upgrade if necessary.
    Thanks for the help

Since you mention that you have both CPT and CPTX files it might be worth mentioning that your goal of just opening them, chaning the preloader percentage before save and close again might not work out as planned.
Have you considered the following issues?
Are you intending to open the CPT files in the same version of Captivate that created them, or were you thinking of upgrading them to a later version such as Cp5.5?  If so, you'll need to do more than just change the preloader percentage.  You'll also need to change the path to the preloader itself since each version of Captivate is installed in a different directory in Program Files.
Were all of the CPT projects set up as AS3 with all AS3 components, or were some of them AS2 and therefore would need to be reviewed and tested to make sure upgrading to a Cp5x version did not have other impacts?  Projects that were set up as AS2 would need to change preloaders, skins, and any animations over to AS3 before the upgrade would be successful.
CPT to CPTX files will also experience font size issues since the font rendering technology changed in Cp5x.  So you'll probably need to go through those projects and fix a lot of issues in text captions.
And another one to watch out for:  After upgrading projects from CPT to CPTX the Continue button on the Quiz Results will often cease to work unless you remove and replace the Quiz Results slide.
This is not a complete list of potential upgrade issues.  What I'm trying to sound here is a warning that, unless you use exactly the same version of Captivate that created them, making any changes to these files could turn into a much bigger job than you hope.  There could be weeks of work involved trawling through each project file one by one checking for issues.

  • How to Copy SapBouicom.dll to destination folder

    Hi,
I am using .net 2005 to create an installer for the addon. The probem is that sapbouicom.dll files are not getting copied  to the destination folder.Only installer and addon exes are extracted to the destination folder. If the dll files are manually copied the addon works fine. Can anyone tell how can I copy the dlls to the destination folder?????
    Thanks & Regards,
    Priya

    Hi Priya,
There is an option in the setup project that tells the installer to copy the file to the program directory. I don't know exactly where it is anymore, but I have used it in the past.

  • Batch action in CS6 ignoring my destination folder!

I have an action I have been using once every year for several years in a batch automation process in Photoshop. Its purpose is to resize all the images in a specified folder and save the new versions (using the same filename) in another folder. Both folders are specified in the Batch dialogue, which is also set to override any Action 'Save As' commands. This procedure worked without any difficulties using CS4. Today, I tried running it for the first time under CS6 and it failed on the very first image.
The problem is that it is triggering a request for my permission to save the image as a copy. The reason is that it is trying to save the modified file in the source folder and ignoring my specified (different) destination folder.
Can anyone offer some guidance on how to fix this?
    David

What operating system are you using?
Did you try rewriting (recording) the action using photoshop cs6?
Have you updated photoshop cs6 with the latest updates using Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6?
You might post a screenshot of the action with all the steps open and maybe someone will spot something?

  • Automate  and  Batch actions

I am converting tiff files to jpeg using the Automate then Batch Actions. I select my source folder and Destination folder. The program converts and send the jpegs to the Destination folder but it is also sending a copy of every jpeg to my DESKTOP. Nothing in my Destination folder shows the desktop as a destination. I set up a destination file on my e drive and it still sends the photos to the desktop.
any suggestions I am using CS2 Photoshop.
    Thanks
    Randy

When you created your action you probably recorded a File > Save as... (.jpg) commanfd and specified Desktop for the test file, as Geoff noted.
When you engage the Batch dialog, specify the Destination folder AND as unintuitive as it sounds turn on option "(x) Override action 'save as' commands." That should get you over the hump.

  • Batch processing source/destination folder issues

    Hi,
I am trying to set up a batch process however when I try to select the source folder I am only presented with my Desktop and 1 subfolder on my desktop. I cannot select any other drives/folders.
I am using CS3 on Vista Ultimate 64. My photos are stored in an external WD My Book Drive. I have the same problem when I try to select a destination folder.
Am I doing something wrong that I cannot see any of my other drives/partitions? I have the same issue when I try this through the Image Processor tool as well.
    Thanks!

I have the same issue. I have to go to Bridge and do a batch command from there. If I choose via Photoshop, I only get the Desktop and subfolders there. Very annoying.
    EDIT:
Just wanted to say that I restarted Photoshop and it now starts with My Computer. I do know this problem has happened multiple times though, and I'm not sure where along the way it changes. I'll test out what happens if I run a batch once (I usually do via Bridge), and then go into Photoshop and try to do one from there after... if it screws with the folder selection. I don't know, just a guess right now.

After upgrading to Yosemite, dragging and dropping files from one location to the destination folder, causes the destination folder crash. However, copying the file and then moving it works fine.

  • I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program.

I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and upgraded the memory and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program. I can see the hard drive in the disk utilities window however it wont let me do anything.
It is a seagate 1TB SATA II drive however it is displaying it as a 7.3 TB.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
I have tried to erase and partition and get the same error message each time, 'Input/Output error'.
I have tried starting the thing with the install disk which is Mac OS X (Tiger?) which came with the computer. No good.
    Anyone?

Thats correct. I can see it in the list however when I attempt to erase it or partition it it's like it's not being found or recognised and it throws up the input/output error message. I am pretty sure that the sensor it attached correctly and it is a SATA drive. I can see all the infor regarding the drive when disk utility is open and it all looks good but I cant access it or do anything with it. It's taunting me!
The install disk is in the drive and the install program runs right up to the point where you have to select the location for the install and there is just nothing in the box where you have to select the hard drive icon.
I have my suspiscions about the drive but any help would be appreciated.

  • When moving a file using drag and drop, as I hover over the destination folder it no longer opens, so I can't drop the file into the folder.  Why?

When moving a file using drag and drop, as I hover over the destination folder it no longer opens, so I can't drop the file into the folder.  Why?  I have a heirarchical embedded folder structure under \Documents.  Usually, as I drag the file to be moved over the various folders, they will blink twice, then expand/open to reveal contents (in Finder).  Now, when the file to be moved is held (hovering) over the destination folder, it will not blink or expand, so there's no place to drop the file.  If I release the mouse button, the file image disappears, showing that it is "going back to the place it came from", a.k.a. was not moved.  This just started happening.  I noticed it after upgrading to Mavericks.  Is this a bug or could anything else be causing this?

As of today, Apple Support discovered during a remote support session with me that the same thing happens on their own system.  It is isolated to "Column View"; the Icon and List views in Finder behave correctly.  Issue is being escalated to engineering, and Apple will call to report status in a couple days.  In all likelihood, this is a bug that will need to be addressed in a future update.

oh and if you use a creative cloud version of Lightroom it could also be that the logon to the cloud is messed up. Logging out and logging back in from preferences in the creative cloud app will fix that. Due to the release of Lightroom CC it appears that adobe's servers have been overwhelmed a bit And many people have strange problems that are solved by logging out and back in.

  • Image Processor and JPEG destination folder

I wonder if it is possible to change the name of the JPEG destination folder when using Image Processor?
I organize all my folders with a specific date structure.  Whenever I use Image Processor to create JPEGs, the folder is called JPEG.  Then I have to rename the folder with the date structure.  Is there some way to include the original folder name in the JPEG folder?
    "Save As JPEG
Saves images in JPEG format within a folder called JPEG in the destination folder."
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Lynnea

I believe if you download the Image Processor Pro script from Russell Brown's web site and install it.  You will find it installs under menu File>Automate.  It is like the Image Processor but is more powerful. You can save as many different sized jpegs for a image as you need you can name the folder or folders you want them saved in.   You can add, remove and turn ON/OFF the tabs in the center section.
