Detail about System Copy / Migration. (URGENT)

Hi! Friends,
I got a new internal project. That is I have to build a new R/3 4.7 (SR1) 1.10 IDES system from the existing one to a new hardware (Server).
Details :
Current : SAP R/3  4.7 (SR1) 1.10 IDES with Kernel 6.20 NU
OS : Windows 2000 AS
DB : Oracle 8.1.7.4.1
Proposed : SAP R/3  4.7 (SR1) 1.10 IDES with Kernel 6.20 NU
OS : Windows 2003 R/2
DB : Oracle 9.2 or 10.2g
I have gone through the sap pdf docs. But still not sure.
My questions are :
1) How to take backup current system data. With conventional db13 or any other way ?
2) After installing CI in new server how to use R/3load to
import the backup data to create DI for new system?
3) Can I use Transport the client-dependent and client-independent data here? If yes, How?
Can you please guide me with detail steps.
Advance Thanks and regards,
Pratip

Hi! Linder,
Thanks very much for U R prompt reply.
1)     I am confused. <b>As SAP saying “As I understand the process, if you wish to upgrade OS and DB in the same step, you must do a hetrogenous system copy.</b>” And U R saying it it a “<b>Since this will be a homogeneous copy, no migration key is required.</b>”
2)     As I donot have Oracle 8.1 CDs so first either I have to install Oracle 9i or 10.2g DB software. In that case your first solution “Oracle datafile copy” will be vapplicable or not? If yes can U pl. give me the detail procedure?
3)     What is the easy option ? using tools like R3load, R3ldctl and R3szchk or using SAP installation disk at the time of DI installation?
4)     Can you please explain step by step of the procedure “You must first make an export and then do an installation with the created export set instead of the export set from CD.”
Waiting for UR reply.
Thanks and regards,
Pratip

Did you execute the report SMIGR_CREATE_DDL on the source system and copied the resulting SQL files to the database dump directory?

  • How to stop jobs after a system copy

    Hi All,
After doing a system copy from the Production system to some test system, all the jobs that are supposed to be triggered in the production server will also trigger in the test system which is not good.
For example, If we have a payroll running every month. After i do a system copy the same payroll will also be triggered in the test server which is un acceptable.
How do we go about it and what are all the steps that we need to follow after a system copy?
    Points will be rewarded.
    Thanks
    Vijay

    Hello Vijay,
you surely need background processes in a running system.
But you can start a SAP system without any background processes.
When the system is up you go to sm37 and delete (or de-release) all the jobs you don't need in the target system. Then set the number of batch processes to the amount you want and restart the system.
Alternatively you can prepare your source system accordingly with the SAP System Copy Guide - Section 3.2 Technical Preparations:
"Set all released jobs from Released to Scheduled:
Tools -> CCMS -> Background Processing -> Jobs - Overview and Administration (transaction SM37)
You also need to do this for jobs that must run periodically (see SAP Note 16083).
Select all jobs (include start after event) as follows:
    Job -> Released -> Scheduled"
I think the best way for you is to read this guide!
Everything is explained very well there.
    Goto:
    https://service.sap.com/systemcopy
    In the left tree select:
    -> SAP Netweaver
    -> SAP Netweaver in Detail
    -> Software Life-Cycle Management
    -> System Copy & Migration
    -> Media Library
There are all the Guides for the current releases.

  • System copy tools for SAP Basis 46C.

    Hi All,
I need to do system copy for SAP Basis 46c. I have a query regarding the tools used for system copy. It is written in the SAP Documents and we need to use the latest version of the system copy tools (i.e. R3load,R3check,R3ldctl,,R3szchk,R3trans).
I need to do the Heterogeneouse system copy
    Source :- Oracle 9.2.0.8 , AIX 5.3
Target :- Oralce 9.2.0.8 (Or 10.2.0.4 if possible) , Sun Solaris
    So my question is
    1) Am i suppose to use only the tools (i.e. R3load,R3check,R3ldctl,,R3szchk,R3trans) which are compatible to relase 4.6C (Kernel 46D_EXT, latest path level is 2541)  or
    2) Can i download and use the Latest version of system copy tools (i.e. Withe release 7.00 for R3load,R3check,R3ldctl,,R3szchk,R3trans) to do the herogeneous system copy of SAP Basis 4.6C ??
    Please reply.
    Thanks

    > Yes we are aware about the certified consultant. But before going for such a big project we wanted to find out the possibilities how we can minimise system downtime and optimize the process therefore wanted to have some information earlier.
Exactly that is the use of that consultant Those are experienced people who have done lots of migrations in the past, they know the possibilities of the tools and versions.
    > So now i am very sure that we can use 10.2 while installation of new target system while doing heterogenouse system copy from oracle 9.2.
    Correct.
    > 1) Migration Monitor (source :-System copy & Migration optimization.pdf)
    > The Migration Monitor is downward-compatible. As new features and bug fixes are only implemented in the latest version, SAP urgently recommends that you always use the latest version available.
You can use it of course but support of it is not "built in" - there's no clicker to check as is in newer versions of sapinst. You will need to modify the R3S file at the "correct place" to make use of it.
    > 2) Distribution Monitor (Source :- Distribution Monitor (version 1.9.1) Usersu2019 Guide)
    > Restrictions:-The following restrictions apply to the current implementation:The DM does not support system copies of releases lower than SAP_BASIS 6.20
So you can't use that option.
    > 3) PACKAGE SPLITTING (source :-System copy & Migration optimization.pdf)
    > The package splitting option is available and integrated into the system copy tools R3SETUP and SAPinst since SAP R/3 4.0B SR1.
The "old version" is a perl script, you'll need to make sure you have perl installed.
    >
    > 4) TABLE SPLITTING  (source :-System copy & Migration optimization.pdf)
    > AVAILABILITY:
    > Table splitting can be used for ABAP systems with SAP kernel 6.40 or above
So that is also not usable.
    > 6) R3LOAD OPTIONS - (source :-System copy & Migration optimization.pdf)
    > R3load option '-fast' (<= 4.6D) or '-loadprocedure fast': These options are available
    > u2022 from SAP kernel release 6.40 for - DB2/UDB - MSSQL - Oracle (see SAP Note 1045847 - Oracle Direct Path Load Support in R3load)
So it's also not built in for Kernel 46D_EX2.
    > Request your final comments on the above points and Need to know whether parallel import and export can be done for 4.6C (46D_EXT Kernel)  release using migration monitor. Please reply.
As I said before and as is written in the documentation, it can be used but not "by default", you'll make sure you stop at the right place with your migration to configure it manually (or the consultant will do).

  • System Copy Methods

    Hello All,
I need to perform system copy.I know the procedure from sapinst. But I have one doubt While doing the database Instance Installation we have 2 Methods:
    1.Standard System Copy/Migration.
    2. Homogenous System copy(MS Sql server specific:Dettach/Attach or Backup/Restore)
Which one I Need to select for Target system DB Installation??I am using win 2003/ms sql server 2005.Performing system copy of ecc 6.0.

    Das,
Here is the details doc for system copy

  • Use hdblcmgui for system copy

I used to use SWPM/sapinst to migrate BW from row-based DB (e.g. MaxDB, Oracle, etc.) to Hana.
Now hdblcm and hdblcmgui are the exclusive tools to handle SAP hana install/upgrade/copy.
However in my preview on hdblcm and hdblcmgui , I cannot find DB export or DB import option.
I have searched Hana SPS08 documentation and failed to find any info about system copy using hdblcm or hdblcmgui.
There are 2 parameters for hdblcm to rename a Hana system, however it cannot keep the source system.  If we want to clone a Hana system, i.e. keep the source system while cloning it to a target system, what is the parameter?
Thanks if you can include some screenshots or links about this question.
    Regards.

    Hi,
You don't use hdblcm/hdblcmgui to perform system migration/system copy. You still need to use SWPM to export from source DB and import into HDB.
You use LCM tools (hdblcm/hdblcmgui) to install HDB, update HDB, rename HDB and for full usage, refer to the note below:

  • Error during Heterogeneous System Copy -  Phase 18 Import ABAP

    Hello gurus,
I´m facing an error during the Target Installation in a Heterogeneous System Copy (Migration). The system SAP is a SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 (Unicode and Abap+Java).
    Source server:
Operation System:  Windows 2003 Server x64
    Database: SQL Server 2008 SP01
    Target server:
Operation System:  Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) X64
    Database: Oracle DB 10.2g (10.2.0.4)
I already did the all procedures in export database and all that looks fine!
At this point I´m running the system copy procedure through SAPInst on target server (RHEL / Oracle) but in phase 18 - Import ABAP the sapinst stops... (by the way in procedure bar, I can see "Import Monitor jobs: running 0, waiting 1, completed 0, failed 18, total 19")
    I checked three log files (sapinst_dev.log ; sapinst.log ; SAPSDIC.log):

  • Homgeneouos system copy - Import/Export

    Hello everybody,
I have successfully upgrade system( ECC 5.0) m from windows 2003 (32)+ SQL 2000 to windows 2003 (64-bit) + SQL 2005. using attach /detach method, in post processing execute STM tool, update stats etc.
But we found performance is not much of improve previous system with only 4 GB RAM, new one with 32 GB RAM.
I have remove the parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE parameter from the profile so it is under ZERO MEMORY MGT.
This above said in testing environment till.
For testing, I planning for the same using export/import
    Plan :
    Source system
    1. Now, Export the database by executing sapinst.exe and then
select ABAP system-->MS SQL server -->Unicode -->ABAP Database content export
and continue with the Export procedure.
    On the Target system
    1. Create a directory EXPORT and copied all the exported data.
    2. Start the SAP installation(only start database instance installation), enter the required parameters up to the
window selecting the database instance installation method, on this
I will choose System copy/migration(R3load based)
    3. provide the path of the Export directory.
    4. Specify the order in which the package are loaded - I select alphabetical order
    5. No other option will select on this screen.
So for testing, I simply database export from source system and on target system I execute only Database instance installation, all process successfully done.
We have not any BW client so I am generate the DDL statement
Pleas suggest above plan is correct or anything missing?
    will improve performance of system?
    Thanks
    Ganesh

    HI!
As per suggested for DDL statement generation, we have no any productive BW client,
i tried on our Qaulity system by logging on regular using client, message display DDL statement
generated successfully,. but when I check in usr\sap\tmp folder there no file
    1. Unicode migration option selection is necessary?
in installation directory path is only /tmp so I checked in ( usr\sap\tmp) directory.
    2.
Above procedure is correct, but during target system installation please continue with SAPinst to install SAP instance as well.
As above statement, I started installation on Target system by SAPinst then from option
      mySAP EPR 2004 SR1
         System copy
              Target system
                 ABAP system
                    MS SQL Server
                        Unicode
                              Central instance installation
                              Database instance installation
                              MSCS Node A Configuration
                              MSCS Node B Configuration
                              Dialog instance installation
                              internet graphic server upgrad
I select  Database instance installation Database instance installation option. No any other process I have done.
    3. is same procedure for  system copy in clustering environment ( because our Production system in windows 2003 (64 -bit) clustering environment.
    4. After installation complet, in post processing  need to use STM tool, update static etc.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks
    Ganesh

  • Odd System Copy

    Hello Experts,
I am performing a homogeneous system copy on linux w/ MaxDB.  The source system is really more like source systems.  Using one database instance (XDB), I have an ERP 6.0 EHP4 system (XS1) and an EP instance (JS1).  My first step was to export the database using the Database Manager; then I made the export available to the target system.  The system copy for the abap application server went without a problem.  Now I am having trouble with the J2EE system copy.
My assumption was that the single MaxDB export contained both the ABAP schema (SAPXS1) and the J2EE schema (SAPJS1DB).  Also, I assumed since XS1 and JS1 are two separate instances sharing a single database instance, then I would also need to complete two system copies.  Were any of those two assumptions false?
My hope was to skip the recovery w/ initialization step during the J2EE system copy since the DB containing the J2EE backup should already be loaded in the target database host.  The error I'm encountering on the J2EE system copy is "You can not use existing instance while installing with backup/recovery method."  Sadly, that error message is very straight forward and doesn't leave much hope to complete both system copies using this method.
A system copy for both ABAP and J2EE stacks ins't the correct path, is it?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Zach Shay

    Markus,
    Update #1:
It appears that sapinst will allow me to do a system copy of the J2EE stack via the first method.
Standard System Copy / Migration (load-based)
What is a bit queer on the whole situation is the wording that sapinst is presenting me.  sapinst asks me for a "Migration Export."  I supply the directory with the label, "JAVA."  Then sapinst asks me if I would like to use the existing database or create a new one.  It allows me to select use existing database (which is a step past what is allowed via Homogenous System Copy)!  However, sapinst then asks me for another Migration Export....  Unfortunately this Migration Export has the label "SAP:MIGJDMP:701:::*", and is a label not present in any of my export directories (or subdirectories).
The labels I have from the ABAP and Java exports are:
    SAP:JMIG:701:*:*:*
    SAP:MIGSDM:701:MIGRATION:*:*
    SAP:MIGAPPS:701:MIGRATION:*:*
    SAP:MIG:*:EXPORT(1/:*:*
Is this MIGJDMP Migration Export related to a database export via R3Load or something similar?  If so, how do I get this?
    \[reading more documentation...\]
    Thank you,
    Zach

  • Homogeneous System Copy - Help me

    Hi,
I need to refresh the Training environment with the QAS environment data then I did the client copy from QRP(QAS environment) to TRN (training environment). This copy was made successfully, but with some data inconsistences.
And then a decided to do a Homogeneous System Copy.
I did the HSC selecting the option "Standard System Copy/Migration (R3Load-Based) " but exist the another option "System Copy / Oracle Backup/Restore".
And my doubt is: the process that I need to do is the Standard System Copy / Migration (R3Load-Based) or System Copy / Oracle Backup/Restore?
And the inverse process (import), can I to install just a Database Instance, once that a Central Instance already exists?!
    Thanks and Regards,
    Dany Anderson

Hii the process you need to do is system copy . In system copy there are two ways one by using R3load tool and other is backup method. Generally the backup method is faster where all your database will be backedup and copied to the target system. R3load and oracle backup are just two methods of doing system copy.
homogeneous system copy if your target system is on the same operating system and database system as your source system. The database contents are copied from the source system to the target system.
You perform a heterogeneous system copy if you want to change the operating system or database system. Migration is another term for a heterogeneous system copy.

  • System Copy of an NWDI

    Hello,
I am in the process of migration several SAP landscapes from one datacenter to another.
The migration of R/3, CRM etc. are straightforward. Now we would also have to
copy the NWDI from the old data center to the new one in order to test all these
    copied systems.
However, SAP note 877029 has some very annoying remarks regarding NWDI system copies:
    IMPORTANT:
CBS and CMS do NOT support the COPY option. This means after the System
Copy migration was done you are not allowed to use the CBS and CMS in the
source system anymore. If the COPY option is selected only for DTR a COPY
is done, for CBS and CMS only a MOVE is done.
How are we supposed to test the relocation of the NWDI from datacenter A to datacenter B?
Is there only a final migration possible, but no test migration of a NWDI?
Why can't we COPY the DTR, CBS and CMS to datacenter B and use these
copies together with all the other copied AS ABAP / AS JAVA instances?
    Regards,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
Please check this thread: duplicate NWDI
I think it answers your question..
    Kind regards,

  • LABEL.ASC Error on System Copy

    Dear gurus,
I'm executing standard system copy (migration/r3load) on HP-UX, DB2 database.
When providing a RDBMS source file, it came up with error:
Found the label DB2/LUW:V9.7 FP4:RDBMS:DB2/LUW:D51041317 but need the label DB2/LUW:V9:RDBMS:DB2/LUW:HP-UX_IA64:*
    So I can't proceed.
    Please help.
    Regards,

    According to
    Note 1351160 - DB6: Using DB2 9.7 with SAP Software
Netweaver 7.0 SR3 is supported. It may be that the 7.01 versions were not updated. I'd open an OSS call and ask (BC-DB-DB6-INS).

  • System copy cluster

    hi,  everybody
My name is Ricardo and Iu2019m inexperienced with SAP BASIS.
Our SAP PRD Server configuration is: 2 Processors, Memory 48 GB, 5 disk (Raid 5) with windows 2008 r2 and sql server 2008 r2.
I need help about system copy. Now we are installing 1 new server PRD and this server will have cluster.
    I have 2 doubt:
u2022     First: how can I see the version about ECC 6  in my  SAP PRD?
u2022     Second:  witch  procedure I should use to make the system copy to cluster?
I already installed the Failover Clustering (Windows Server 2008 r2), SQL Server 2008 r2, Central Services Instance for ABAP (ASCS), First MSCS Node, Database Instance, Additional MSCS Node, Enquired Replication Server on all MSCS nodes, Central Instance on first node and Dialog Instance on second node.
    thanks

    1. try  click on the System --> Status and there you can see the Component version
    2. http://service.sap.com/systemcopy
