Detail info in file/open
I understand we no longer get thumbnails in file/open (thankyou apple and microsoft). But what happened to the detail panel for tiffs? I see it for jpegs (like who works with jpegs anymore). But not for tiffs. I have photoshop CS6 and am on Windows XP. I have the file/open function set for 'list.' I find setting it for anything else too cumbersome. And toggling bk and forth between file/open in photoshop and bridge is beyond cumbersome. How is this an improvement?
Oh well, I see you are viewing info for tif images and I can't but, as you said, it may be an XP vs Windows 7 issue...were you viewing this using Windows 7 or are you on a mac, which is a whole different ballgame?. The thumbnails accessable for 'list' view in all previous versions of Photoshop did the trick for me on another level. Using 'thumbnail' view doesn't work...it takes forever to load. I could use 'detail' view but I really like to see as many images listed as possible. So I use 'list' view.
Oddly, I get the information for jpeg images when hovering over an image name in 'list' view, but not for tiff images. That was what I was asking about...hoping that there might be some setting in photoshop. Actually, with all previous versions of Photoshop, hovering over an image name gave me a thumbnail, which I understand is now not accessable because of some dustup with apple and microsoft. As for the information, indeed, it is the same with CS5...I can see the info for jpegs but not tiffs.
It's a shame I've lost a valuable function and can't make something else fill in. As they say, it's not a bug it's a feature. Well, I will be upgrading to Windows 7 soon, which may solve some of my issues. I have Windows 7 on my laptop (but not CS6 because it's not powerful enough to support the program). I'll have to check out the info feature there.
I appreciate you folks being there for these questions. Between this, my new tablet and soon a new phone, it's info/tech overload at the moment for me.

Can anyone help give me detailed info re: how to transfer files from PC to ipad using my icloud and Pages? Thanks.
If you go to iCloud.com you can actually just upload all your documents there qnd convert them to a pages file. You can then go to your iPad and go to your pages app and have access to all the documents that you've recently uploaded on to iCloud.com. You just need to make sure that on your iPad in settings->iCloud->documents and data is turned on. If it is then anything you do on the iCloud or iPad will all sync and you can access both items from either platform.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask. You can also visit an apple store where they have free classes on iCloud and other topics.
Hope this helps. -

Audition 1.5
Announcers only want File Name and Date Modified to show when they choose File Open and Details.
Audition willnot keep setting for next File Open request.Unfortunately the File Open dialogue is a Windows function not Audition, so Audition can't save the setting. However you can use a third part app to allow you to customise your File dialogues in Windows.

Photoshop CS4 (11.0.2) crashes when file opens (Windows 7 x64 Pro)
Did a recent install of Windows 7 x64 Pro and installed Adobe Web Suite and updated all adobe programs. When I use photoshop to open a file, the file opens then photoshop hangs and windows says it has stopped responding then closes. This is a fresh install of windows...
I used drivermax to backup drivers from a previous install and install those drivers on the new install. After that I installed the newest graphics drivers via nvidia's website.
I installed all updates for the suite then I cleared my preferences, none of this worked.
Please let me know where I can find the crash log and any other logs so I can post that info here.

How to get more detailed info while running a BAPI in test mode
Hi friends
I am trying to test 'BAPI_QUOTATION_CREATEDATA2' by opening the BAPI with 'se37' and then clicking on the button Test/Execute (F8) and entering all the data required.
However, I get a message as follows.
'555 The sales document is not yet complete: Edit data'
While creating the QUOTE manually using 'va21' I get more detailed messages like what kind of data is missing 'whether valid to date is missing ..etc.etc.'.
However, while testing thro' bapi, all it says is that sales document is not complete.
Is there a way to see more detailed info as to what information is missing, so that I can put them before running.
Your feedback or suggesions will be highly appreciated.
Thansk
RamThanks Rob
Actually it says
W V1 555 The sales document is not yet complete: Edit data.
As I said, I am running the BAPI manually by opening the BAPI using SE37 and then clicking on the F8 button. This inreturn will give me an opportunity to click on different object trees to enter the sample data. So I have entered everything that I thought was needed. But still it keeps complaining that the info is not complete but no further details.
Hope there is some log file or something that I can see to get more details.
Thanks

Photoshop CS5.1 on 15" Macbook Pro (File opening/Application Frame problem)
I have seemed to narrow the problem to my preferences file but cannot figure out why.
I installed a clean, fresh version on my Mac. (No previous versions were ever installed).
When I open Photoshop for the first time, everything runs fine: I can open files and edit as usual.
As soon as I close it and re-open many things happen:
a) I can go to open a file, but with Window>Application Frame unchecked, I cannot see the open file.
b) All other palletes go awry. I cannot change the open palletes and or edit anything.
c) If I check Window>Application Frame, everything is back to normal. No problems here.
So, what is going on? Anyone else having this problem?I get this same issue with PS CS5.1 a recently purchased 15" Macbook Pro
In PS5.1 use File/Open to open an image file but image doesn't appear (histogram and other properies dialogs show the right info, though),
switching to Application Frame mode makes the photo appear,
trying to switch back out of App Frame mode locks PS5 up (ie nothing displays & have to Quit and restart via the Dock icon).
For me this issue only happens when my secondary display in NOT connected. If the 2nd display is hooked up everything shows up normally. Doesn't seem to matter about the power profile (ie running on battery or not) and not affected by various background apps, devices hooked up (eg backup drive, USB mouse. All Mac & CS5.5 software updates have been applied to date.

Where can I get detailed info on bug fixes?
Hi,
Where can I get more information on bug fixes that are listed in the release notes of each version? For instance, I am interested in each of the following ones.
GRANITE-1215 - Workflow Monitoring via JMX
CRX-4167 - Improved handling for backup procedure on ""listDir = /""
GRANITE-877 - Fixed ""Too many open files"" issue in monitoring
GRANITE-741 - Replication can handle missing content in the activation queue
GRANITE-1090 - Configure exclusion of publish instances for activation status updates
CRX-2943 - Cluster: Enable audit log on workspaces
Apart from the one line descriptions, I need more detailed info like what was the issue or why it occurs and how was it fixed, looking for something similar to a KB article.
ThanksThese are internal reference numbers and the detailed descriptions are not available publicly.
Please note that they are not all bug fixes, they can also be: improvements; enhancement requests; and new features. -

But first, make sure you have all the updates installed. -
Office for the Mac - file open slowness, freeze, or crash
When I select the File - Open window, any of the Office programs take a few minutes to display all of my files in the Documents folder. When they are finally displayed, any attempt to scroll through the list or go to a specific file results in the Mac's spinning wheel being displayed. Quite often, nothing happens after the wheel stops spinning. Sometimes, it just continues to spin. Consequently, it is almost impossible to use the File - Open window in Office to select a file to open. The only way I can do so is to use Finder to display my files in the Documents folder and then selecting them in that program's File - Open window.
When the wheel is spinning, Force Quit says that the specific Office program being used is "not responding." Usually, I use Force Quit to close down the Office program if it has frozen, crashed, or been slow using the File Open window.
I spent an hour yesterday with Microsoft Support on the problem. The conclusion of the tech was that I had too many files in my Documents folder. I pointed out that other programs such as FileMaker Pro didn't have this problem. The tech's response was that Office has to scan the entire Documents folder every time the File Open window is opened, but that FileMaker Pro stores a list of the last files in the Documents folder and doesn't rebuild the list every time.
I am skeptical of this "answer." The problem didn't exist until a few months ago.
My computer is a MacBook Pro 2.3gHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 750GB hard drive which has about 500GB free. This is a fairly fast machine with a Geekspeed of 10688. I was running the latest Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.1. The problem first surfaced with Office for the Mac 2008 about 3-4 months ago running Mac OS 10.10.1. I installed Office 365 yesterday, and and Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.2 today, and nothing changed.
The only solution that I know of is to take a lot of time to segregate my files in the Documents folder into more subfolders (I already have quite a few). That I am loath to do, because the solution doesn't work very well. It takes about a minute to select a subfolder in the File Open window, and then about another 30 seconds before Office allows me to scroll through a relatively small number of files (e.g., 100 files) in the subfolder.
When this question was posted to the Microsoft Community, I was directed to an article talking about problems with Office and Mac OS. None of the solutions worked, probably because the article considered only Office X and Office 2004 for the Mac and OS 10.2 and 10.3.
Help, please!1) Verify that Office is fully updated. v14.4.7
2) I suggest you run Font Book and vailidate your Fonts. Microsoft installs duplicate fonts and after you clean up your fonts, this has often fixed odd issues with Office.
Office 2011 Duplicate Fonts to Delete
3) Delete the com.apple.LaunchServices file in your User's Library/Preferences folder. Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar and test. More info
If this fails to fix....
Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.
Put a few test files in the Shared folder. Data in the Shared folder can be accessed by another User. When you "Switch Users", you can access the files in the shared folder. After you log into the new test User, drag from Shared (it actually copies). Put the test files in Documents.
Open Word. It won’t be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open.
Do you still see the issue?
If yes, you can eliminate the number of files in your Documents folder.
If no, then you might want to do a clean up in Documents.
*Remember to drag files back from Shared when you log into your main User.

How to make InDesign files open by default in CC, not CC 2014
Now that I have 2 version of InDesign on my mac (10.8.5 - Mountain Lion), both CC and CC 2014, how can I make my .indd files open by default in CC instead of the new 2014 version?
I've tried selecting a .indd file, opening the Info panel and changing the "Open with:" option to "Adobe InDesign CC.app 9.2.2.103". I then click Change All.. and confirming. However, this does not work. Double-clicking any .indd file still opens in the 2014 version and the Info panel for any .indd file still shows the 2014 version as the "Open with:" default.
Any ideas? Here are three methods. The first two are free but don't give you exactly what you want. The third requires a third-party utility and works perfectly.
(1) Right-click on a file and from the menu choose Open With... then choose the version of InDesign you want.
(2) Create an alias for your InDesign versions and place them on your Desktop. Drag your InDesign file onto the alias of the version you want to open.
(3) Purchase Soxy from Rorohiko:

I'm a developer working on an IDML based project.
My application opens an IDML file, inflates the contents and (for the moment, without making any changes), deflates them again.
The result is a file which:
a) Opens fine in any zip application
b) My code can then reopen without problems.
InDesign, however, throws the following error:
"Cannot open the file "filename.idml". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be miussing, or the file may be open in another application."
I have verified that the file is not open in another app, and that no plug ins are involved.
InDesign will open the original IDML file that it exported, so there's no general error.
I assume the issue is with the zip container not being UCF compliant, and I'm trying to diagnose what the problem might be.
My question(s):
Has anyone been through this and do they have any suggestions or guidance?
Is there any way I can get InDesign to tell me in more detail why it cannot open the file?
What are the most likely issues with the container?
I have inspected both the original file and the output file using Winzip, and I append the results of a detailed diagnostic on each below. The only difference I can see is that some files in the original are not compressed (they are simply stored in the zip container), but the UCF specification seems to suggest that a container can contain either compressed or normal files, so I don't see why this should be a problem. Would this cause InDesign to have a problem?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance. Zip file diagnostics follow.

Harbs -
I'm trying to edit some .mp4 movie files, but I can't open them in Quicktime (10.0 or 7.6.6), or iMovie '09 (8.0.6) or Final Cut Express (4.0.1). I've got a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). When I try to open the file in QT 10, it says "The document “name.mp4” could not be opened"; whereas in QT 7 it says "The file could not be opened. An invalid sample description was found in the movie." In iMovie, the file is greyed out when I try to import it.
The file will open and play fine in VLC, but I can't do the editing I want there. The Media Information pane in VLC says: the codec is "H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)(avc1)", it is HD resolution (1920 x 1080), it has a frame rate of 59.940060, and the Decoded format is "Planar 4:2:0 YUV". It also has an audio track (MPEG audio) and a subtitle track. I also tried opening these .mp4 files on two Mac laptops that a friend of mine has. Interestingly, they would not open on one (I think running Lion with QT 10.0), but they DID open on the other newer laptop (running Mountain Lion with QT 10.2).
I first assumed it was just a case of not having the right codec. So I tried copying all the codecs from the Mac laptop that *could* open them, but that didn't work. Then I searched for and downloaded codecs that I might be missing, such as "avc1Decoder.dmg" from MyCometG3 and http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23875/avc1decoder, and x264Encoder 1.2.27 also from MyCometG3, and I put them in my Library/Quicktime folder and restarted Quicktime, but neither solved the problem. I also tried opening the .mp4 files in MPEG Streamclip (1.9.2), but it says "File open error: unrecognized file type". When I tell it to "open anyway" it tries and then says "File open error: can't find video or audio tracks".
I tried opening one of these .mp4 files in Handbrake (0.9.8) and it was able to open and convert the file to an .mp4 that is then openable in QT 10 with a format of H.264, AAC, and a reduced frame rate of 29.84. However, this doesn't seem like a good solution because it takes about 2 hours to convert a file with 30 minutes of video. I just want to be able to trim these big files down to some short video clips that are in an accessible format.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Am I missing the right codec? Or, as I'm beginning to wonder, is this format one that is too demanding for OS 10.6.8 and QT 10 and they just cannot handle it no matter what codecs I have on my computer (because of the 60 fps frame rate? Or is it the subtitle track?). Or is the solution to upgrade my operating system to Mountain Lion (10.8) and QT 10.2? My 15" MacBook Pro is about 2 years old with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 and 4 GB of RAM (1067 MHz DDR3). Thanks.Wow! A lot of ifs, ands, and maybes here.

To start off with, these messages and/or inability to opent/import files could stem from either security updates that see something in the file that it interprets as a possible breach of file integrity or the inclusion of data not expected in the associated file type while missing codecs are either identified and load but do not display or refuse to load but issue a message to that effect and possibly asking if you want to visit a web page containing codes you may want to add.

In the future, could you be more specific when describing the file contents. For the moment, I will assume the video is H.264 (MPEG-4/AVC) and the audio is AAC (MPEG-4) audio and not MPEG-1 layered audio. (I.e., while the former is to be expected with the MP4 file extension, some apps can "stuff" incompatible data into an MP4 container or users can manually change the file extemsion.) It also important to know if the "subtitle" track is embedded within the file or is contained in a separate file. (I.e., a screen capture of the media "info", "inspector", or "properties" window is usually the least ambiguous way to track content information.) It would also be nice to know if the VLC frame rate is for progressive or interlaced video if possible.
Basically, some apps are very touchy about file extensions and track content. iMovie '08, for instance, will not open a file containing extraneous tracks like 'tween, text, chapter, etc. embedded within the file. I assume this may also be true for "subtitle" tracks as far as your Snow Leopard players are concerned. In any case, if your version of the QT 7 player is keyed for "pro" use, I would perform a simple test here by deleting the "subtitle" track, saving the file, and then re-trying to load, open, play, and/or import the file in the various applications currently giving you problems. If this fixes the problem, then you will know the source and solution of your problem

The indiscriminant installation of additional codecs often creates more problems than it solves owing to the logrithmic increased potential for the introduction of QT codec component conflicts. The normal "rule of thumb" here is to identify a missing codec and to then install only that specific codec component. Even then, there is a possibility that there may be a conflict but at least it is more easily identified so you can better evaluate which of the conflicting codecs to leave installed and which to swap only when needed/required. As to the use of MPEG Streamclip, it basically uses your system's QT component configuration of access of most codecs as opposed to VLC and HandBrake which contain their own, built-in codec support. So if QT is having a problem, it is often likely that MPEG Streamclip will also have problems.
I tried opening one of these .mp4 files in Handbrake (0.9.8) and it was able to open and convert the file to an .mp4 that is then openable in QT 10 with a format of H.264, AAC, and a reduced frame rate of 29.84. I just want to be able to trim these big files down to some short video clips that are in an accessible format.
The HandBrake workflow forces a recompressing of the file data which is why it takse so long. That is why I suggested you try deleting any extraneous data tracks found in the source MP4 file container using QT 7 Pro and then use the "Save" or "Save As..." option to re-write the original audio and video data to a new MOV file container which takes much less time.
Probably not. The VLC reported data rate may either indicate the MP4 content is AVCHD/BD sourced or it is reading interlaced content as progressive which I have noted it can do on occasion when I compare the media info as read by various different apps and/or utilities. Since you indicate the file opens in Mountain Lion, my guess would be that your MP4 content is actually AVCHD/BD sourced since such support was only recently added to Mac OS X v10.8 software. As to moving up to Mountain Lion, as always, that is something you would have to evaluate for yourself. For instance, do you require PNG compression for video content? By default you would lose it under Mountain Lion and have to re-enable it manually if needed. Are there other pros and cons that you need to consider before upgrading to Mountain Lion? These are the types of questions and compatibility issues that only you can answer for yourself. -
Set thumbnail view as default in the File open dialog box
When I hit File/Open in PS, the dialog box always opens in"details" and I have to hit the select view icon and chose "thumbnails". I've looked in preferences but can't find anything to change the default to Thumbnails. Is it that you have to do this somewhere in Windows OS ?
What versions of Photoshop and Windows are you running?
I ask, because running Photoshop CS5 and Windows 7 x64 when I select a view - e.g., Large Icons (which yields thumbnails) it sticks. Make sure you actually open a file after making the change.
