Detailed Account of iPhone 4 not turning on after screen goes out.

Hello,
This is my first iPhone and in the last week it has been annoying. I have been a Mac person for 11 years and this phone is awesome but this problem I am having is not. It started about a week after I had the phone (I have had the phone almost a month now), it seems that when the screen goes blank from inactivity the phone will not come on after pushing the power or home buttons. This requires a hard restart and the phone will come back on. The first time it happened it was a single incident so i Dismissed it all together, but this week it has been happening to me again except this time i did a little more troubleshooting and research on the issue, I do not have in apple store in my location and it was hard enough trying to get the phone and i really do not want to send this back to wait for another phone for two weeks, but unfortunately i will have to.
Monday I was bored at work and did my usual browse threw the app store purchased a flashlight app for the LED flash on the camera , all seemed well throughout the day. the next morning on the problem started over again. everytime the screen would go blank from inactivity i would have to hard restart the phone. now keep in mind this will only do this from inactivity, if I am playing music in the background and the phone goes off it will still come back on, no problem. So i did some googling and came across a few people having the same issue but no one really giving any details. i went home for lunch and got the new 4.0.2 update hoping this would work, nada.... seemed the only way to remedy the situation was to restore phone to factory settings. I did this tuesday afternoon and all was fine until today , thursday, I received updates for a few apps today (predators, facebook and retina wallpapers hd) now the same problem is happening again.
This has to be a software issue, it would be awesome if anyone else having the same problem can comment on their issue and try to give as much detail (time, dates, apps, updates) as possible. I have owned three apple machines over the last 11 years, I am a die hard apple guy thru and thru from the age of 13 and wouldn't have it any other way, but it would seem apple should have tested this phone out a little more thoroughly. If i had an applestore in key west i would be more than happy to deal with them over there but I am on an island 120 miles away from the nearest walmart so I am sorta screwed. It would be awesome if an apple tech or moderator could reply so I at least know you guys have a detailed account of what is going on, also please feel free to contact me via email.

I have been trying for the last half an hour to recreate the problem with out the case on and i cant recreate the issue. the phone is coming up fine, i have restarted the phone twice to see if the problem would come up after a restart and no go.
I just got off the phone with katy at otterbox and she is telling that they have not had any issues with the case but i have explained to her my whole issue and that i have trouble shooted the issue without the case on the phone itself and i cannot get it to happen again.
i currently have it in the case and am going to try and recreate the issue again. if the issue comes back up i wont hard restart it on the spot i will take the phone out of the case and then try the home button. if the phone works, its the case, if it doesnt work it has to be the phone.
now my thinking is that this occurred after a software update, I am wondering if the software that I have on the phone might be taking the overheating temperature threshold up. as in before i installed the software the phone would go out at so&so degrees then after i installed the software it takes it up to so & so degrees and the otterbox is making it just warm enough to turn the phone off.
another quick note that i am wondering about...
this monday i had the phone syncing to my itunes and during the syncing i has an update on facebook and out of habbit i immediately go to check it, so i cut off the syncing as this was going on. i dont think that would effect the phone now since i have gone thru a software update and a system restore since then.
as of writing this post i have been testing the phone with the case on and now the issue is not happening. i will be holding off on sending the phone and will continue to try and troubleshoot the issue, i now have a belief that it could actually be the otterbox that is doing this but i am not sure. i will try and keep this updated as i am telling both companies i have started this tread and that they should make reference of this in the notes

  • My iphone will not turn on after I replaced the battery

My iphone will not turn on after I replaced the battery, itunes logo comes up, but it will not connect and does not reset! does anyone know what I can do?

Who replaced the battery, you, Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider? If you did it yourself, then you could have done anything to disable it. It also voids any warranty and post-warranty support from Apple and the forum. You are on your own. If Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider replaced it, then take it back and have them check it.
The iPhone does not have a user replaceable battery, or user serviceable parts. It is meant to only be serviced by Apple, or authorized service providers.

  • My iPhone will not turn on after a yet another blue screen of death. Please help!

As mentioned above, my phone will not turn on after a yet another blue screen of death. All of a sudden it turned off, and it wouldn't turn on for quite some time, even after I plugged it in the charger. It wasn't long after the screen turned on, but it only displayed a bright black. I decided to turn it on and off a few times. Nothing worked.
I have also tried to call the phone from another one. It was as if the phone was simply off.

  • IPhone will not turn on after Sleep during Camera app.

Over the last two months, my iPhone has refused to turn on 4 times. In each of the cases, I was using the Camera app and pressed the sleep/wake button while still in the app.
In all cases, I was able to reset the phone (sleep+home for 10 sec.) However, what really bothers me is that two of the times, the battery was fully drained (from about 85% in about 4 hours). I have a feeling the Camera app is still running even though the screen is dark and unresponsive.
I have tried unsuccessfully to replicate the problem intentionally.
Does this sound like a HW or SW issue? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

This happened to me just last night. I was looking at photos (as opposed to taking them), left the photo showing and let phone sit on the table until it slept... it just didn't wake. Thought it was a battery issue (I was down to about 30% remaining), but connecting to power did not wake the phone. Plugged in overnight, but nothing changed, and no battery charging took place.
Power+Home restart did wake it this morning, but this was a bit disconcerting to say the least. I'm almost hesitant to want to replicate the behaviour.
FYI, I spent the weekend taking pictures using Camera, then putting it to sleep until the next picture. iPhone always woke fine, but after using Camera to view the pictures last night it didn't wake up.

  • My iphone will not turn on after update

    Hi all.
I was wondering if you could help me.
I tried to update my phone last night. I had a number of error codes and was then met with the task of having to restore my phone.
I restored it and it failed.
All that happens is the apple logo comes on and the 'egg timer'. I can not turn it on. I have tried to press the sleep and home buttons..but no joy.
I tried this morning and my PC would not recongnise my  iphone and neither would iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • IPhone will not turn on after restore:

Hi guys, I tried to update my iPhone and it wouldn't update, so I restored it then there was an error (1015) so I tried to turn on my iPhone but it kept displaying the screen it does as if it were connected to itunes (even though I disconnected it). So, I tried to restore it again, same thing happened! Now it won't even load up again - As soon as press the button for it to turn on, it gets past the Apple logo bit then goes straight to the screen as if it were connected to itunes again! Really frustrating as I just bought it on Wednesday. Any helpful information would be amazingly appreciated! Thanks.

It sounds a lot like the phone was 'hacked' to unlock it. This has been known to cause permanent damage that can not be reversed. You can try a hard reset. Hold power and home together for 20-30 seconds. It should display the Apple logo and boot.
If it does not, you may as well just buy a new, legitimately unlocked phone or one that works with your carrier.
Discussing hacked or jailbroken devices is a violation of the terms of service here. That's about all we can advise. There are no 'parts' you can change that will fix this.

First try a Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )

  • My iPhone will not turn on after i locked it

so my iphones working perfectly fine and i up it on lock for literally 30 seconds to put on a shirt. when i return to unlock it, it wouldnt turn on. i have never dropped my iphone or had watr damage. the battery was full when right before it stopped working. i have tried pugging it into my computer and i have tried charging it. i have held down all the buttons in all the ways possible but it will not work. its just a blank black screen

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-60 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • IPhone 3GS Not Turning On After Being Dropped

I dropped my 3GS on a tile floor today (NOT in water)and now its malfunctioning.
When I plug it into the wall charger it turns on an i get this screen: http://i53.tinypic.com/29zsvhx.png
I can only make emergency calls.
I can also click this little i and it says: *IMEI: unknown ICCD: unknown*
I have no clue what this means.
Whenever I unplug it from the wall the screen automatically goes black and i get this: http://i53.tinypic.com/2utnuol.jpg
The screen works fine when its plugged into the wall and there are no black spots where there isn't a picture.
When i plug it into the computer, and more specifically iTunes, nothing happens. It doesn't even turn on.
Ive tried doing a hard reset when its plugged into the wall (I cant other wise) and nothing changed, it went back to that same screen in the first picture.
I cant for the life of me figure out whats wrong with this thing, help?

    It's broken. Probably beyond repair.
IF there is no visible sign of damage, they might cover it under warranty, if it's still under warranty. Otherwise, you're probably going to have to investigate 3rd party repair or just get a new phone.

  • IPOD will not turn on, after power ran out and charging for two days.

Slept off while using my IPOD, noticed the next morning that the battery was flat, i charged the IPOD, for one day, try to turn it on nothing happened, charged it for the second day, same thing, it refuses to turn on. Please i will like tips and help on how to go about resolving this problem. Note a friend had same problem and had to charge hers for one days before the IPOD turned on.

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF

Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
