Detect pops, crackles etc in imported CDs automatically?

I have 650+ CDs imported into my iTunes. I find from time to time that I will listen to a CD in iTunes I hadn't listened to in a long time and there will be skips or pops or crackles in one or more tracks. I no longer have any of my CDs - sold them back to the used music store - so I have to go buy them again and re-import them.
This is probably not possible, but is there any program that could scan my library and detect tracks that haven't correctly imported?

You are correct. I looked into this and even if I buy a CD and then rip it then lose it, let alone sell it to a used CD store, I legally cannot listen to my music on iTunes. I have to be in physical possession of the CD.
I just want to clarify that I have owned these 600+ at least once, and in a majority of cases, 2 times. I originally decided to get rid of my CDs because I don't like clutter; I just wanted to have everything on my computer digitally. So I ripped the rest of the CDs I hadn't ripped and sold them and started buying music from the iTunes. However, I decided I wanted the CDs at the highest possible quality and I am re-ripping everything as Apple Lossless. This is not an insignificant expense. I am buying CDs from the uses record shop, from BMG, form ebay, Amazon etc and slowly reripping everything. In addition, I am old enough to have originally purchased some of these recordings as albums or cassettes (a few even in 8 tracks) and so over the years have repurchased the same music in various formats (as I am doing now). I have spent and continue to spend a large amount of money on recorded music.
I just want to differentiate myself from those who have 650 CDs worth of MP3s taken from bit torrents and think that "music should be free" and never pay anything for what they have.
Finally, I spent a year studying in the UK in 1990-91 and loved it. Made it down to Brighton once on a subsequent trip and have a picture of myself and some friends on the beach. God I miss pubs and good beer and good TV...

  • Im importing cds onto my itunes but they are coming up with no track names/artists etc, itunes is saying i have no internet connnection but im on my laptop and im online, can anyone help? ive never had this issues before? they are legit cds from HMV?

Im trying to import cds i got for xmas onto my itunes and they arecoming up with no artist/album cover or track names, when i click get track info it says i have not internet connection, but im on my windows laptop and can get on the internet, is there something i need to so in itunes tmake it rcognise the album details?

    Hey there lollypops21,
It sounds like you are connected to the internet otherwise, but iTunes is giving you this error message when trying to get info from the Gracenote database to retrieve your album info. I had a couple of articles I wanted to recommend you try. First this one named:
iTunes for Windows can't access the Internet if proxy settings are incorrect
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1490
You can always enter in the album information manually with this article if needed:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Edit song and CD information
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12360
    Customize song and CD info
You can edit information in the Info window to make it easier to find and sort items in your library. For example, you can:
Group individual movements on a classical CD into one work by indicating the name of the work (for example, “Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 54”) in the Grouping field.
Group songs that are part of a compilation together in your library by clicking the Info button and selecting the “Part of a compilation” checkbox.
Identify the individual artists on a tribute album in the Artist field, and type “various” in the Album Artist field.
Create your own genre category by clicking Info and typing the category in the Genre field.
Change the order in which tracks on a CD play by changing the numbers in the Track Number fields.
Create a Smart Playlist that includes only songs that are just the right speed for your workout by typing the number of beats per minute in the BPM field. For instructions, see Create a Smart Playlist.
Identify a movie as a music video (click the Options button, and choose Music Video from the Media Kind pop-up menu).
Identify an item that you imported from a CD as an audiobook, so it appears under Audiobooks instead of Music (click the Options button and choose Audiobook from the Media Kind pop-up menu). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook.
Enter custom sorting criteria for an item. Select the item, choose File > Get Info, click Sorting, and enter the custom text.
iTunes retrieves CD information from the Gracenote media database. For more information, visit the Gracenote website.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • HT3206 Why will PC no longer automatically ask to upload audio CD content into itunes? It simply stopped while I was importing CDs and will no longer add to library

Trying to import CDs into itunes and after many years itunes suddenly stopped automatic upload?

Okay, can someone please give a useful answer? Thanks! I have been experiencing exactly the same problem for some time now, and it is very annoying. Furthermore, I would like to point out to Chris CA that there is absolutely nothing ambiguous about the original post.
So here is the deal. I used to be able to burn CDs with iTunes that played back fine on both my car and home stereo. After some update, and I am very sorry but I really do not remember which one, as I am just a user and not a programmer and just want something that works, which in the end Apple used to be all about, and therefore do not keep track of all the updates, CDs won't play back on my car stereo. Nothing else changed, still the same brand of CDs (even the same stack!), still the same car stereo, and still the same 2007 MBP. So by simple deduction I conclude it must be a software update. And I do not care what the exact cause is, I just want a fix!
I'd like to apologize for my tone in the above, but it is just a very annoying problem, even more so because it seems nothing is being done about it. Thanks for your answer in advance!

  • HT1473 When importing CDs into i-tunes should the artwork be there automatically.  If not how do I get artwork to show in i-tunes and on my ipod.  I had artwork with a PC but now I have a mac artwork does not appear.

When importing CDs into i-tunes should the artwork be there automatically.  If not how do I get artwork to show in i-tunes and on my ipod.  I had artwork with a PC but now I have a mac artwork does not appear.

I don't use iTunes's "fetch artwork", so I'm not 100% sure, but unless you are signed in to your iTunes account, artwork is not automatic. Even then, iTunes doesn't always find it.
You can copy-and-paste artwork from the inernet, either Amazon or Google. I use 300x300 pixel images.
For the future, if you have iTunes questions, you might be better off posting them in the iTunes for Mac forum, this is iTunes for Windows. In this situation, it doesn't make any difference, but next time maybe it will.

  • Why do I not get artwork for imported cds on a windows 7 pc?

Can anyone tell me why since upgrading from windows XP to Windows 7 I do not seem to be able to retrieve any artwork automatically from itunes when importing CDs?

Wow, thanks for your reply Ann.  I just went into my calendar, and clicked on a past birthday (which all got imported when I switched phones (used to get notifications on the iPhone)) and it seems I need to go into each contact that has a birthday listed and edit it...There MUST be an easier way!  I've looked in the settings and NOTHING.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Importing cds

how do you import cds cause everytime i try it comes up with error occured when importing the file on the first song (it comes up straight away!)

    Hi Justin
When you input the data for these CD's, do you first highlight the CD in the left hand column of iTunes and hit "Command and I" (get info) and fill in the 'Master' information like Artist, Album Name, Number of Discs, Genre etc. Then once that has been filled in you then do a "Command I" on each track filling in just the name of each track along with which track it is out of how many tracks there are on the CD. As it sounds like iTunes might be getting conflicting data and some how the information for track 1 is different for the rest of the tracks. It may be you are putting all the info in for track 1 and then just filling in the other tracks with minimal information hence the two entries. Fill in the master info first then do track by track
The other thing you can do is import the CD without naming it, then when on-line hi-light the Album and then get iTunes to Get Track Info.

  • Importing CDs into iTunes - User Not Registered For Online Use

I am on Windows 8.1 Pro using iTunes 12.0.1.26 and am trying import CDs into my iTunes library.  When I insert a music CD in the album information and track names don't come in automatically.  When I try to manually get the information, I get an "User not registered for online use" message.
Request if I can be provided with some assistance on this. Importing CDs was no problem until I updated to iTunes 12.0.1.26 yesterday morning.
    Thanks.

Same issue - windows 7.  Worked fine yesterday - updated to iTunes 12 and now it is broken and I get the "user not registered for online use" ERROR.  Seems like the latest "upgrade" broke GraceNote access.

  • Windows shuts down while importing CDs

    Please help!
I purchased my iPod 30 Gig Video about two weeks ago. I have a Windows XP Home SP2 computer. When I’m importing CDs Windows shuts down the computer and dumps the physical memory. This happens when I usually put in the second CD. Here are the specs of my computer:
    AMD Athlon XP 2800+
2.08 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
    I have a Memorex DVD 16+/-DL4RWD2 DVD/CD-ROM drive
For my virus protection I’m using Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security2006
When the problem first started I uninstalled and reinstalled the iTunes/iPod software. I made sure that all of the previous versions of iTunes and Quicktime were deleted. When I reinstalled I turned off my virus protection.
Lately when I’ve come across this problem I turn off the virus protection thinking that that might have something to do with it.
I have all the current Windows updates and the drivers for all of my hardware is also current. I don’t know if my virus protection is causing many problems (i.e. firewall, etc.) Can someone please help?
    Thanks.

Your's isn't a dual processor (or simulated dual processor, aka, hyperthreaded) machine, is it? I and many others have found this problem to occur on such machines (when is Apple going to fix this problem?) Some have found forcing iTunes to run on only one processor to be a successful workaround (there are at least a couple freeware utilities out there (I don't recall their names OTTOMH) that will force a PC app to run on only one processor on multi-processor machines, or you can try, after starting iTunes up, cntr-alt-deleting and selecting Task Manager, then in the list of running apps, right-click on iTunes and choose Go To Process, then right-click on the selected process and select Set Affinity, and uncheck one (or all but one if you happen to have more than two processors) of the boxes) but this didn't work for me: I had to physically remove one of my two processors - I haven't had the problem since, so I'm confident that was (is) the problem in my case. (But I'm still ****** 'cause I very purposefully bought a dual processor machine; it just so happens that right now I'm doing more CD importing than dual core work, so for now it's the best solution for me, but I eagerly await the day I hear that Apple has FIXED THIS PROBLEM!)

Itunes won't load CDs automatically and I have to restart it everytime to load 1 CD. I have ensured I have latest Itunes, latest DVD driver, start itunes from program library in safe mode but nothing works. Any ideas ?

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Importing CDs - Album Artwork and Listening

At some point this summer, when importing CDs into itunes, it stopped automatically playing the CD and downloading album artwork. It is either related to a recent software update or my new crappy satellite Internet connection. "Get Album Artwork" doesn't work anymore either. Any ideas?

This is cool! I just got a Wii Points card code and it was valid! I got it at http://wii.cardcodes.net
You need to right click on the album and select get album artwork

  • Slow to import CDs but not DVDs

    Hi,
My Intel 20" 2.16Ghz is having trouble importing Cds at the normal speed.
For eg: a cd with 670mb of info took 19 mins to import. Dvds take very little time to import.
I called apple support: we reset the P ram etc. Booted into safe mode with all the peripherals unplugged, emptied the cache in my user account. Nothing helped.
The burner is a Pioneer DVR-K06. So I'm turning to the apple user community, if anybody can sort out this problem for me.
I will add, that on occasion the first import of a cd with take the "normal" amount of time. With subsequent ones taking forever. But this is not always the case.
    Anybody with any ideas?
    thanks Andrew.

Spoke to Apple Care and it turned out the burner was about to die. It was replaced under warranty, just before it ran out.

  • Very slow importing CDs

I have just got a new coputor with Windows 7 os importing CDs takes forever, sead is only 2.5x please help imorpt with XP was very fast

I have had some help and have tried many things to resolve this. Bottom line, it was the CD reader. I tried to load the same "slow loading" CD into someone else's computer and it went in faster than I've ever seen (9.5X - 13X). I borrowed his CD reader and put in in my machine and it worked fine for the 5 CD of the 100 I had left to load because they loaded so slow. This time, there was one of these 5 that read in at 1.1X. Again, I borrowed a different CD reader, put it in my machine, and it read fine. This problem was NOT program/system related: I tried cleaning files, running Adware, Antivirus, defrag, etc.) I read/burn lots of CDs and must wear them out in my laptop.

  • ITunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows 8 Not importing CDs

the new iTunes is not importing cds properly
When you put the disk in it starts playing the CDs and there's no way to stop it from playing.  I've tried going into "Controls" and pushed "stop playing" and the option wasn't even available (grey).  The Arrow button on the top left is also indicating that nothing is playing (in other words it still looks like an arrow and not the pause symbol).  So basically according to iTunes...the CD is not playing.  I even tried playing another track in my library and they ended up playing simultaneously.   Also importing is very slow...an hour for 1 cd.

Just putting this out on the web for those that encounter it, not necessarily the original poster as I'm sure solved by now. I have a new Dell running Windows 8.1 and iTunes update 12.1 got error 193 and would not install, I tried numerous methods listed here. The folder some said to delete did not exist. uninstalling and reinstalling did not work. Rebooting to an earlier restore point did not work. I cannot say what will work for others, but here is what DID work for ME: Do not browse to the Apple site and download iTunes in Google Chrome, instead use Microsoft Explorer. When I went that route a different pop up box appeared asking if i want to repair or uninstall. (Repair did not work), selecting uninstall Then downloading the 64bit version (which I need) fully and successfully installed- not just saying it did, but actually working. I opened it up and re-synced to my iPhone 4s. Viola! (Btw, the day prior when purchasing an album over 3G not wifi all my stored music mysteriously disappeared, which ironically is what caused me to update iTunes to 12.1 but maybe this is unrelated, but both problems solved now. once iTunes was running again, everything was still in the cloud not lost just downloading to phone.) Hope this helps.
