Detecting/Displaying ApplicationUpdater.currentVersion

Question

I want to display the current installed APP version on a page inside a nativewindow and have had no success.
Have tried:
alert(air.update.ApplicationUpdater.currentVersion) and get TypeError: Result of expression 'air.update' [undefined] is not an object.
This is on the same page which AIRAliases.js is included and other nativewindow stuff (like reading/writing files locally) is being done.
