Right click on most Flash movie playing in IE and you should
see "About Flash Player X) at the bottom of the drop down.

    How to detect the *Acrobat Browser Plug-in version* installed on a users system, on Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc?
    Or one script for detecting Plug-in version for major browsers. Need full example code.

    Wrote an article on this with code samples (Javascript + HTML) - basically there are differences between IE and other browsers. Chrome natively comes with the Chrome PDF Viewer so I've incorporated that in my detection script.

  • Detect Flash version

    I have a flash movie exported in version 8, with the flash 8
    player detection. It works fine in some browsers, detecting old
    players and asking the uder to download a newer version of the
    player. But some users can't se anything at all. No movie, no text,
    noting. I've not been able to recreate the problem in my own
    browser, and i don't know what version o flashplayers they had
    installed.
    Have any of you come across the same problem and maybe have a
    solution to it. The script that detects flash is generated by flash
    8 and i have not done anything to the code.

    Here's a link if you want to try it. Maybe it could be the
    javascript or vb-script, but I don't get any error messages in the
    java-console.
    If it doesn't work when you try it, please let me know.

  • Should i have an install in the flash play settings under Plug in Version?

    Should i have an install in the flash play settings under Plug in Version?

    I'm not sure I understand the question.
    Do you have an "install" and want to knwo if it shoud be there, or are you looking for one?
    I've never seen "Install" as an option in the plugins manager for any browser, because the plugins listed are already installed, or they wouldn't be in the list,

  • I already updated Adobe Flash to latest version, why can't Firefox detect it?

    Through a company IT rep, he helped to update my Adobe Flash Player already along with installing Firefox 3.6
    Now why does the firefox claim "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video" when the Flash Player was already updated to the latest (i.e. attempt to view youtube videos for testing).

    There are two different versions of Flash, the ActiveX version which is used by Internet Explorer and the Plugin version which most other browsers use, including Firefox. If both are installed, two versions Adobe Flash should appear in Add / Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel.
    1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
    Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
    then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Detecting Flash Player 10

    I have created a flash animation using Flash CS4 that takes
    advantage of the new 3d tools....
    www.chriswootton.com
    I have had two site visitors report that they could only see
    the top half of the animation (logo header and menu). They were
    both using Macs. I sent them the link to download the lastest flash
    player...
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    After they installed it they were then able to see the
    complete animation (the puzzle pieces that use the 3d effects that
    appear underneath the logo header).
    My concern is that site visitors will not see the animation
    at all because they have the wrong flash player plug-in version. Is
    there a script to detect if a user is using Flash Player 10, and if
    not, direct them to download it from the Adobe site? I noticed in
    the published html file created by Flash, there is a script with
    the following comments...
    //v1.7
    // Flash Player Version Detection
    // Detect Client Browser type
    // Copyright 2005-2008 Adobe Systems Incorporated. All rights
    reserved.

    Looking at your code, it would seem that you already have player version detection in there, but it isn't firing correctly for some reason.  Perhaps those few users had javascript turned off?
    Regardless, you can try to use swfObject to embed your swf.  It has built-in player version detection and handling.
    http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/
    The official Adobe method (which you appear to be using) is based off of this code-base.

  • Flash Plug-in security updates

    When there is a critical security patch update, I always see a link to download the latest Flash Player security update.  But I do not see any specific link to security updates for Flash Player Plug-in for Other Browsers.  Why is that?  Does Flash Player security update download cover both the Active-X (IE) and Plug-in (Firefox and other browsers)?  Perhaps I do not understand how Flash Player is related to the Active-X version and the Plug-in version.  Thanks.

    It's because the web page detects the browser being used and therefore displays the appropriate download. If you want to see what a website detects when you visit a page, go to this site: http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
    I think it's fair to say that users of other browsers don't use IE very much. You still need it to go to the Windows Update site if you use Windows XP, but Vista/7 can update via Control Panel, so IE is superfluous in that environment. I still haven't installed Flash in IE myself yet.
    Here's the latest Adobe bulletin for the Flash vulnerability in case it helps: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb12-05.html

  • Is there a trick to getting the latest Flash plug-in to work?

    I just updated my Flash player to the newest version, and installed it for all browsers. Now it seems some sites won't recognize the player - for example, sesamestreetworkshop.org has a bunch of games that are Flash, and when I go there it tells me I need to get the latest Flash plug-in. So I did, installed it for all browsers, and it still doesn't work. Any help?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    I can confirm this problem. The scripts that sites use to detect flash just don't work anymore. Flash just works, but the plug-in can't be detected by detection scripts. Let's take a look at the variables FX networks is using:
    var requiredVersion = 7;
    var useRedirect = true;
    var flashPage = "main.html"
    var flashPage2 = "main.html"
    var noFlashPage = "noflash.html"
    var upgradePage = "noflash.html"
    var flash2Installed = false;
    var flash3Installed = false;
    var flash4Installed = false;
    var flash5Installed = false;
    var flash6Installed = false;
    var flash7Installed = false;
    var flash8Installed = false;
    var maxVersion = 8;
    var actualVersion = 0;
    var hasRightVersion = false;
    var jsVersion = 1.0;
    As you can see, their pages can't be accessed with Flash Player 9, the max version is Flash Player 8.
    So you will have to wait until they change their scripts, what is kinda stupid in my eyes. I think more people use the same scripts. That sites require a minimum Flash version is correct, but a max version is really not done.
    I've mailed their webmasters and asked them to fix it asap.
    I think that's the only thing that can be done at this time, if the scripts some sites are using are the same as this one.

  • Cannot load ANY vers. of the Flash plug-in! Flash works fine with MS Explorer on same system. Have tried upgrading, downgrading, using Adobes "remove Flash" utility, etc. What's up??

    SYSTEM:
    WINDOWS XP HOME, SP3
    HP DC7100 Tower, 2 GB RAM
    Norton AntiVirus
    Windows Firewall ON.
    Only able to use Flash plugin with FireFox 3.0. FireFox 3.6 and above (through vers. 8) have the issue. It appears to be an endless install loop from the Adobe "getflash" website download.
    Driving me a bit nuts. Thanks in advance.

    There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:
    *an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only
    *a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox
    *On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.
    '''''You do not appear to have the Plugin version for Firefox installed. ''''' If you did, in Add-ons > Plugins you would see "Shockwave Flash ''(version)''". If "Shockwave Flash" is there and is disabled, click the "Enable" button.
    Check your Plugins often --> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
    *only the most popular/used Plugins are known by this page
    *page will detect only installed, '''''enabled''''' Plugins
    '''<u>Install or update Adobe Flash</u>'''<br />
    #'''<u>Using Firefox</u>''', go to the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later. Un-check any items on that page that you do not want to download (i.e., "McAfee Security Scan Plus":
    #*http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
    #When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
    #Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
    #*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
    #*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.
    #Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    #To update/install the ActiveX version for IE '''''only''''', repeat the process, '''<u>but use IE to go to the above website</u>'''.
