Detecting if Phone is in Silent Mode

Is there any way to detect if the phone is in silent mode? I can't seem to find anything in the docs or forums.

Did you get an answer on this ?
I'd really like to know...

  • OpenAL Detect if Phone is in Silent Mode

Is there some way to detect if the phone is in silent mode when using OpenAL? I'm aware of the Audio Queue method but I need to use OpenAL for a particular part of my app and I can't seem to find a way to make it respond to silent mode...or more accurately not respond to silent mode.

Good question...my app does this too, it powers right through with it's sounds regardless of silent mode or not lol.

  • Is there anyway to disable the chime when I accidentally catch the microphone icon while texting (phone is in silent mode)

    Hi all,
I might be being a little dull here, but my question is exacly as in the title: Is there anyway to disable the chime when I accidentally catch the microphone icon while texting (phone is in silent mode)?  I have fat fingers occasionally and whilst people at work don't mind private phone usage to have it occasionally activating the mic and then me cancelling it a little annoying.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Dave

There is a proximity sensor that should turn the screen off when you place the phone near your face.  Do you have a case that's blocking this?  Try removing your case.  If no case, try restoring you iPhone.  If still a problem, return it to Apple for a warranty replacement.

  • How can I ensure an app will play audio even when phone is in silent mode

Am looking at deploying a third party app, but I want to ensure that the app's built in notification system will notify on the user's iphone, even if the user has set the phone to silent mode.
In the Android world <gasp!> there is an app called CritiCall. In the Apple world, I have found no such equivalent. And honestly I want a control that supports the app's usage of device functions, not individual device functions.
MEM solutions don't seem to fill this bill either. Any suggestions out there?

Ask the app's developer or try it for yourself before deploying it.

    Hey Manish_sri,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
What version of BlackBerry 10 are you currently using? Go to Settings>About to find this information.  Also if you remove the battery and place it back in, do the notifications work again?
I look forward to your reply.
    Cheers.

  • When phone is on silent mode, my vibrate feature is not working....any suggestions?

When I put my phone on silent mode, the vibrate feature is not longer working....any suggestions?

If it's a software issue and your settings are correct then the next step would be to restore your phone to new. Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings If it's the switch itself then try moving it back and forth several times. Perhaps there's a bit of pocket lint or dirt preventing a good contact. If that doesn't work then you'll have to take the phone into an authorized Apple repair centre or Apple store and have it checked out.

  • New phone...Silent Mode option vanished after update to 4.1.1

Just bought this phone yesterday. Put in Silent Mode while at dinner. It updated itself to version 4.1.1 and now the Silent Mode option is missing under the settings menu. how do I get it back?

Yep same thing. I have an iPhone 3G and after updating to 4.1 I have "No Service" where I should have some.
Tried airplane mode, full power cycle - nothing. My phone is bricked (service wise, still functions but I dont want an iPod Touch, I want my phone back)
How do I get this corrected please apple?

  • How can some emergency contact rings even if phone is in silent mode

    H

If I understand correctly, you're asking if you can have one number ring aloud even if the phone is on silent? Sorry, but that's not an option.

  • IPhone: How to tell if Phone is in Silent Mode

Is there any way to detect if the iphone has it's sound turned off? I can't find anything in the docs.

    MUCH agreed.
I had an app on my Treo ("Show Off") -- http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/show-off-more.php -- that remedied this issue. That app changed the background color across multiple apps...so you always knew whether your ringer was on or off. Another useful quality of this "background switching" was that I often had my ringer off at night before going to sleep, in a theatre, etc. -- all environments in which I actually preferred a dark background in order to spare those near me. So my "silent" theme was white text on a black background; and my "ringer on" was black text on a white background.
This kind of "theme switching" would be decidedly un-iPhone-like, but man, I loved that Treo app...!

  • Stop phone vibrating when receiving emails in silent mode

    Hi,
I have an iphone 4 and the iOS5 update.
I mainly have my phone switched to silent mode which is fine for receiving texts and calls as I prefer it to vibrate, but how can I stop it vibrating every time I receive an email without disabling silent mode?
    Thanks

If I remember correctly, Apple has been experimenting with the vibrate-for-emails feature in the iOS 5 betas. The phone would vibrate for new email message on one beta and they'd drop it again for the next. Seems like it has made its way to the final iOS 5 and thus you won't be able to disable it selectively. One alternative, though not really a good solution, is to check for new mail manually and not have the phone do that for you on an intervall or via push.
    Sebastian.

  • Phone rings even in silent mode and in vibrate mode

Whenever I get a call on my xperia z1 compact it rings even when phone is in silent mode. I even tried to it in vibrate mode, still the phone rings. So every time I want my phone to be in silent mode I have to put the airplane mode on. It's very irritating. Plz help me.

  • Messaging, mail and phone sounds in headphones with phone in silent mode

    hi,
I just upgraded to the 3gs from the original iphone and I seem to be confused as to whether I should be getting all the different sound alerts through my headphones when my phone is in silent mode. I thought the original did that. can someone tell me if it's possible to get the sound alerts through the headphones if they're attached and the phone is in silent mode?
    thanks,

both the new iphone and the old one both do the same way
as long as you have the headphones plugged in you will hear it in the headphones
there is no way to "mute" it

  • Is there a way to see a notification of silent mode?

I don't think this exists, but i really want to be able to see a little symbol at the top of my phone screen while my phone is in silent mode. Sometimes I will put it in silent mode and forget that I put it on that mode and i will miss calls/texts. It's very frustrating and my droid used to have it and i loved that function...am i missing a setting? i am wondering if anyone else would appreciate that option....

Set your phone to vibrate when on silent mode.
you can also set up settings - general - accessibility- LED flas for alerts - ON

  • Turn off silent mode for V.I.P`s

Ok this may sound odd but I am trying to figure out how to make a certain number audible while my phone is on silent mode. Reason being I'm on call for work a lot, sometimes while I'm sleeping. So I don’t want my phone making sounds (notifications, calls, etc) except for ONE number (work) calling me. Anyone know how to do this???

    You cant' do that.
