Detecting the presence of a SIM card in an internal WWAN SIM slot

Was wondering if anyone can think of a way to remotely and/or programatically detect if a SIM card has been physically inserted into a ThinkPad's internal WWAN slot?
ie Can we query through WMI or any other mechanism whether a SIM card is currently installed in a ThinkPad.
This question could equally apply to any OS / hardware version, but my current situation is for a number of ThinkPad T410s running Windows XP.
Any ideas appreicated?

Lets get those contracts transferred over to your new iPhone! Which iPhone are you using and which app are you using to try to transfer the contacts with?
