Determine port for ethernet card

I have been emailing with support trying to figure out why MAX cannot communicate with an ethernet card in my pc. I am new to ethernet and don't have the experience to solve this. I had explained that the MAX was giving error: " Insufficient location information or the device or resource is not present in the system." One solution suggested in the Ethernet tutorial was to run ping from the command line and see if it worked. I did that using the IP address of the ethernet card and it did work. I was then told by support to also use ping including the port number at the end for example 192.55.5.3:1. I do not know how to find port number. I did a web search and one solution was to run netstat from command line. I did that and go a long list of values and could not determine which was the ethernet card. Another thing I tried was in Wireshark under Conversations where the UDP: 2 tab selection showed port numbers for the card of both 138 and 139. When I tried using either of those port numbers with ping it gave me a error "Ping request could not find host 192.168.55.2:138. Please check the name and try again."
Can someone please tell me if there is another way to figure out the port for this ethernet card?
Thanks.

I don't understand. MAX will communicate to an instrument - not a nic. Is there something on an Ethernet port that you are trying to communicate to? If so, what is it? In order to use LabVIEW and VISA, you often have to manually add the instrument in MAX. Right click on Devices and Interfaces and Select>Create New>VISA TCP/IP Resource.

  • Determine Fields for Business Card on Area Page -  does not show on portal

    Hi,
I'm trying to add new fields on the overview page of service personal data IT0002
I found "Determine Fields for Business Card on Area Page" in customizing and added new field, but it doesn't show in ESS portal service.
Does anyone have any advice what I need to do to make it work?

Bizcards is only customizable via IMG as of EHP3
Lower releases might require additonal steps/modifications
For EHP3 you need to ensure you are using EHP3 software components and have EHP3 business
function switched on (be careful though switching on this function is only reversal via restore to point in time
before switching it on) - also check note 1159911 if you  have switched this one and/or see no fields
    Worth also trying the following
Check V_T7XSSPERBIZFLD for existing fields and positions
Add supplementary fields and position numbers to V_T7XSSPERBIZFLD
    OR
Check V_T7XSSPERBIZFLD for existing fields and positions
Overwrite required positions and fields in V_T7XSSPERBIZFLC

  • Thunderbolt port for ethernet adaptor and display

    Hi-
As there is only one Thunderbolt port on a MacBook Air, how am I supposed to connect my gigabit adaptor AND a display at the same time?
    Thanks.

Unless the display is (Apple's) Thunderbolt Display, which replicates TB as well as providing Ethernet, FireWire, USB, and audio, you might need to live with little less than "Gigabit" and get a USB->Ethernet adapter.

  • SF500-24 combo ports for ethernet access

    Good afternoon cisco community,
I have some cisco switchs (SF500-24), and I found that the 21 and 22nd ports and combo (ethernet and SFP), and when I try to connect a PC on any one of these ports , it does not work correctly.
I planed to link the SF500-24 switches with a catalyst 2960 XR using the 21 and 22nd ports, but it also doesn't work.
Also when I check in the management web interface, these 2 ports are not shown.
So How can I make them work properly as the other ports ?
    Best regards,

    Hello,
I would recommend you to put switch in standalone mode (stacking is by default) and test it having in mind that combo ports are really just 1 port inside and SFP has higher priority than cooper.
Please let me know how it goes.

    Welcome to the forum!
The problem here is most likely that there is no ethernet card installed, although there is a port in the back, since that's the way machine had left the factory:
    Product: ThinkPad T22 2647-M2U [change]
    Operating system: All [change]

But don't worry, you can get a combo modem/LAN card for a few bucks nowadays.
    Hope this helps.

I am using SURPLUSMETER I am also using Apple Airport Time Capsule as my Router that is connected to my Satellite dish Internet Modem ... Now on the Surplusmeter I have the option for PPP Modem . Ethernet Port , Airport , Network Card , & Adaptor .
Which one can I use properly to monitor all the wireless Devices in my hous

Actually, none of the options will do what you are looking for it to do. That is because, this application only monitors the traffic from the device it is hosted on. That would also mean that you would have to run a copy on each computer that will access the Internet on your network; note their individual usages, and then, combine them to get an idea of the total usage.
However, if you are only interested in the amount of Wi-Fi traffic that only your computer is seeing, then the "AirPort Network Card" option would be the correct choice.

  • How to specify one ethernet port for network home directories (other for normal filesharing)?

So I'm trying to get Home Directories up and running on a 10.6.8 Xserve (waiting until I get my NFS sharepoints migrated to a Linux server [for other reasons] before moving up to 10.7 Server). But posting here since that will be happening in the next few weeks, and it might be applicable now (so I can at least get that resolved ahead of time).
I have a different DNS entry for each ethernet port: server.office.domain.com at 192.168.0.11 for the first, and homes.services.internal at 192.168.0.10 for the second. DNS lookups for both resolve correctly (as does the reverse lookup).
If I use the Server Admin to pick a sharepoint as an automount for Home Directories, everything is fine, but it picks the server.office.domain.com hostname. Picking that works just fine, but that is also the connection that feeds the filesharing. I'd prefer to split that home directory traffic out onto the second ethernet port. So I tried just duplicating the initial connection (since it can't be edited directly in Workgroup Manager) and changing the hostname to the internal one, but I get an error when attempting to log in (the client login screen gives a very helpful "Couldn't login because of an error" error message) and don't see anything in the server logs.
The client machine shows the following line:
    Code:
    10/20/12 5:27:42.688 PM authorizationhost: ERROR | -[HomeDirMounter mountNetworkHomeWithURL:attributes:dirPath:username:] |
         PremountHomeDirectoryWithAuthentication( url=afp://homes.services.internal/Users,
         homedir=/Network/Servers/homes.services.internal/Volumes/HomeDirectories/Users/ user123, name=user123 ) returned 45
(added line breaks so it didn't extend off the page)
So it looks like this is failing because the automount isn't in place, but I'm not sure how to work that out either (i.e. how do I add that making sure it uses the internal hostname?).
Any suggestions on getting this to work?
I realize one solution is just to LACP the two ports, but that is a different ball of wax (I may do that later if I get a 4 port ethernet card and performance limitations demand it).

A possible solution might be this.
On ADSLBOX and CABLEBOX configure different subnets for the LAN, e.g.
    ADSLBOX:    192.168.1.0/24
    CABLEBOX: 192.168.2.0/24
The MEDIABOX gets these static IPs:
    ADSL-LAN: 192.168.1.2
    CABLE-LAN: 192.168.2.2
On the MEDIABOX, configure the two network interfaces using two routing tables.
    The ADSL-LAN routing table
ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 src 192.168.1.2 table 1
ip route add default via 192.168.1.1 table 1
    The CABLE-LAN routing table
ip route add 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth1 src 192.168.2.2 table 2
ip route add default via 192.168.2.1 table 2
    The main routing table
ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 src 192.168.1.2
ip route add 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth1 src 192.168.2.2
    # use the CABLE-LAN gateway as default, so general internet traffic from MEDIABOX runs over CABLEBOX
ip route add default via 192.168.2.1
    define the lookup rules
ip rule add from 192.168.1.2 table 1
ip rule add from 192.168.2.2 table 2
    To test the setup:
    ip route show
    ip route show table 1
    ip route show table 2
I don't know how to persist something like this in ArchLinux using netctl. Might require to write a special systemd unit for it. Above is a working example from a RedHat box at my company.

  • Is there a PCMCIA Ethernet card for Powerbook G4 OS X 10.4.8 ?

My ethernet port on my Powerbook G4 is damaged and can no longer be used. I looked into getting it repaired but that apparently requires replacing the entire system board at considerable cost. Rather than take that route, I was hoping to find a PCMCIA card with an Ethernet port but I cannot seem to find any that will work with OS X 10.4.x.
Does anyone know of such a card ?
    Thanks for your help !

    How old is your Powerbook?
A Mac older than 4 years old may need its clock battery replaced by an authorized service center. The clock battery dying can cause certain ports to malfunction as well. If it is under 4 years old and no surges broke the port, try zapping your PRAM, it may solve the problem once and for all:
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n2238
If it is under AppleCare, there may be no cost at all. Any Mac under a year old is under AppleCare.
Also replacing the system board can be cheaper than from Apple directly if you take it to one of these places:
    http://www.dttservice.com/
    http://www.powerbookresq.com/
    http://www.microdocusa.com/
    http://www.macspecialist.com/
    http://www.techrestore.com/
In addition, if the port got burnt out by a storm surge or power surge your home/apartment insurance or credit card company you purchased the machine with may pay for the damage. So check each of those sources if you can't find an appropriate card.
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ lists a variety of upgrade cards in their database, and may have some ethernet cards you can look at.
By the way, the fact that port is broke suggests the possibility that any other system difficulty you are having may also be related to logicboard issue in anycase, so replacing the logicboard is a good idea if you are noticing other issues.
This thread may yield some clues:

    So, these guys have nothing?

    (MacSense PCMCIA 10/100 Ethernet Card)
This is one of the first things I found when I Googled before posting my original question.
But if you look towards the top of the page at this link under
System Requirements, you will see the following :
Supports Mac OS 7.5.3 and above (Excluding OSX support) G3 PowerBooks and above are not supported.
So, for my needs, yes, they have nothing.

  • Ethernet Card for PowerMac 5500/225

I've an old PowerMac still gathering dust and since I'm connected to a DSL line with a wireless router I thought I'd take advantage of the 4 wired Ethernet ports at the back and wire my Mac up to the Net (you know, the old fasioned way with some Cat 5).
This will mean bypassing the old dial-up modem (built in) by installing an Ethernet card. I imagine these now cost pennies, and can be bought on eBay, but which make and model will work best (or work at all)?
Thanks in advance for any help that's forthcoming...
PowerMac 5500/225 Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier System 8.0

Many of the 5500s shipped with a Comm II slot RJ-45 Ethernet card in the leftmost (from the operator position) position [that's rightmost if you have good access to look directly at the backpanel.]
Alas, some of them did not. If you want to install one there, you will need a Comm II slot (not to be confused with a Comm slot) Ethernet card. They are readily available from used Mac dealers, and can be had on eBay for under US$20.
If and only if you already have the right-angle PCI slot adapter board in place, you can also use a PCI slot card, but beware -- many of the manufacturers are either no longer in business, or cannot supply Mac drivers. So if you buy a Brand other than Apple, be sure you are getting the Drivers with the card.

  • Dedicated Ethernet port for MD

We want to add a PowerMacG5 to a Xsan existing network, but all PCI-X slots are already occupied: 6800UltraDDL (AGP+adyacentPCI), Kona2 and FiberHBA, all of them are absolutely necessary. I don't know how to get another Ethernet port. It has only 1 GigabitEthernet port and is in use for transfering large still image sequence and similar files by the corporate LAN.
I need another free Ethernet interface for Xsan MD, isn't it?
Can I add and use an Airport Extreme card to get a valid link to the MD dedicated LAN?
    The scenario would be:
    -Airport Extreme Card (54mbps link)
-Very near WiFI AP with a very weak signal (the minimal enough to get strong signal at 10 cms...)
    - 802.11g only (no 11b for max speed)
    - WEP or WPA encryption on.
    - EthernetMAC ID restricted access
Is this enough for dedicated MD for an uncompressed HD video editing station?
I know this isn't an easy nor optimal scenario, but this is unfortunately the matter.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Just configure you ethernet switch to route 2 Vlan's to your ethernet card, then setup to IP addresses on the same ethernetcard in your Mac...
You do not need an free ethernet interface for Xsan MD, it just the prefered way to max throughput...
When u get dropped frames, you can always invest into an other solution...

  • Hi, I'm using a Mac Pro here. I am trying to connect it with my NAS hard drive. But i could not connect to it because i have an ethernet which connects to the intranet in my company and Air Port for the internet.

Hi, I'm using a Mac Pro here. I am trying to connect it with my NAS hard drive. But i could not connect to it because i have an ethernet which connects to the intranet in my company and Air Port for the internet and it could not detect the the ip address after i input the correct address on "Connect to Server" window. Please help! Urgent! Thanks

I did not say it is not possible.
I said if your company networks are monopolizing both ports, you should talk to them about what options are available.
Maybe you can get the company Intranet over wireless if you change some configuration items such as Subnet Mask.
Maybe you can get on the Internet over Ethernet.
You really need to ask them, and do not let them blow you off because you have a Mac. If they balk, ask them how it would be done on a PC (becasue it will be the same on a Mac).

  • Using 2nd Built-In Ethernet port for internet access?

    Hello,
I have a Quad-G5 running 10.4.8. In its current configuration, all its network communications, including web access, go over the active ethernet port (Built-in 1).
Does anyone know how I could use the second built-in port for internet access only? I'd like to route local traffic over the first port, but go "out" over the second.
The machine is on a corporate network, and proxy access is slowwww. I have the ability to use a direct connect to the internet, but still need to be connected locally. Any thoughts? Many thanks . . . JD

Easy. Go to System Preferences > Network > Network Port Configurations and drag the port connected to the internet to the top, so that it has priority over the port connected to your LAN. This prevents DNS time-out when loading a website, but still allows LAN traffic over the other port because that traffic is most likely going to use ARP rather than DNS. For good measure, you can add your company's domain (such as "my_company.lan") to System Preferences > Network > Internal_Ethernet > TCP/IP > Search Domains.

  • Bridge for ethernet port

I am looking for a bridge for ethernet port of MSI 180. The bridge is used for wireless connection (It changes wired connection type to wireless one either 11b or 11g). Is there a bridge compatible with Mega 180?

    Well as for the WGA54G,
I am (again!) struggling to get it working, I recently had issues where the reset button did not work (thank god I remembered my password)
For some reason any changes I made were not saved, that got fixed by updating the firmware.
It does not support WPA (have to check to be sure)
It does only support one device (so you cannot connect a switch to it and have multiple devices connected to your network.
For some reason it does not understand I have a DHCP server running, I have issues getting the DHCP forwarded to the device it is supposed to create wireless for.
connectivity is so-so I had to cap the max transfer limit to get a stable connection.
If I were to buy one again (which I may do, since I need it to connect my DVD player to my network) I would buy a accesspoint, and not a game adapter.
As for brands I will definitately not buy Linksys again, nor Asus. I bought a Asus PCI wifi adapter, which has buggy software (maybe related to Windows ME).
Does anyone else have comments on wireless suppliers that have good software added to their hardware. I am quite happy with my 3Com router, which is quite easy to manage.
Do not have comments on WAP54G, as above I will not buy a linksys product again.
How is US Robotics for instance ?
