Determine Version of Embedded Controller Program in T-40

Using the reboot and press the ACCESS IBM button method doesn't reveal which version of the Embedded Controller Program is on the older T-40's.  How would I determine if I have the most recent version?
Thanks

  • Unable to update BIOS or Embedded Controller Program on X40

    Hi,
I have an IBM Thinkpad X40 laptop.  I currently have BIOS version 1.43 and Embedded Controller Version 1.32.  I am trying to upgrade both of these separately using the following programs:
    BIOS update (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad X40
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-53881
    Embedded Controller Program (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad X40
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-53882
I download and run them, go through the 4 step wizard and then the machine reboots.  The problem is that it doesn't update the BIOS or the ECP but it also doesn't tell me why or even tell me that it's failed.
Has anyone experienced this issue or know what causes this?  I am unable to do this via a diskette because I don't have a floppy drive on this model.
    Solved!

    OK, I've fixed this now.
I had Kaspersky Internet Security installed and had disabled it manually but it was obvisouly still blocking fundamental system changes like these.  I uninstalled KIS completely and then ran these updates again and all worked fine.

  • Should one update Embedded Controller program before a BIOS update ?

    Hello All,
I have an IBM Thinkpad 600E 2645 4AU that has an old version of BIOS that am trying to update to the latest.
I read on the net that before updating the BIOS its required to update the Embedded Controller program.
This is what I read and am quoting :
" It is also important to understand that Thinkpads from IBM have two separate firmwares: the BIOS, and the Embedded Controller program. A given BIOS version will require a certain version of the Embedded Controller program. The IBM documentation is sometimes unclear about the order in which these two firmwares should be updated. On most, but not all Thinkpads, the correct update order is Embedded Controller program first, and then the BIOS. Make sure to do the two updates immediately one after the other. Newer models from Lenovo update both the Embedded Controller program and the BIOS at the same time, so you don't have to worry about it."
Could anyone let me know if this applies ? I searched the Lenovo site for a  Embedded Controller program for my laptop model but found none. So wondering if this model would require the Embedded Controller program update ?
    Thanks.
    Alex

  • Botched Embedded Controller Program Service Utility upgrade.

    Hi,
It seems that I might have a little problem. I've recently started updating my T43 with ThinkVantage Update program and the first couple of updates went like a breeze. Even the new BIOS installed alright. But when I started upgrading Embedded Controller Program Service Utility it suddenly stopped at that gray screen saying that the system was now updating and is telling me not to turn it off in any case. The thing is, it says it should take about 30 seconds while I have been waiting for over an hour but to no avail.
I am a little afraid of turning of my computer, don't really want to damage it. Does any of you have any ideas what should I do in such circumstances? Any help would be much appreciated.

with the bios upgrade through windows, the process is quite simple but there is potential for interference from other programs that is going on in the background, this is especially a problem with laptop that have not been maintained properly in terms of regular virus scanning, deleting unwanted programs, keeping background processes to the minimal. For a more secure update, try to do the bios update through the ISO image method.

  • LabVIEW 8.0 (Prof.Dev.System) and Embedded controller programming?

    Hallo!
Can someone please tell me if it is possible with this development system (as it is) to build applications that will run on Adlink Geme-2000 Embedded Controllers (http://www.smallformfactors.com/products/search/fm/id/?17483) ? They run either with OS WinXPEmbedded or WinCE.NET.
Or will I have to get me any toolkit to be able to do so or won't it work?
    Thanx,
    Stefan

    Dear Stefan
You can run LabVIEW 8.0 on any Windows XP Embedded box.
See this tutorial for a step-by-step explanation: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4011.

  • X23 Bios and Embedded Controller Program Updating

I am trying to update my bios on my x23.  I have relatively old versions of both the bios and the ECP, and both say that they won't work without more current version of the other.  Which one am I supposed to update first?
    thanks,
    David

It is confusing; on the BIOS page it says update the BIOS first and on the ECC page it says update the ECC first
What I suggest is to look at the table at the very bottom of the pages to see which is compatible with what and carefully work out which, if necessary older, version of what can be installed first untill you reach the current versions of both. It may be possible to leap-frog some of the updates.
Hope I explained that well enough.

  • T43p Embedded Controller Upgrade

    Dear All,
I upgraded the embedded Controller to 1.06 without pay more attention to BIOS version so the BIOS version was 1.22 and this is uncompatible version between 2 system software.
So now I have a big problem on running, sometimes the Laptop stop on the IBM Screen (Click Blue Button) and can't continue I foreced to turn it off manually then re-run it many times to let it run.
After that I upgraded the BIOS to 1.29 version but I am still getting this problem.
When I am working into Windows XP, 70% of the time the system doesn't work efficently and freeze a little bit but the big Problem when I am trying to run it I rerun it many times to work nice.
My question is; How to uninstall the BIOS and the Embedded Controller?
    Regards and thanks

    Hello,
The PXI controller can have one of two operating systems:
    Windows OS
    Real-Time OS (deterministic)
Ultimately, the architecture of your program will determine the deterministic rate.

  • Correct procedure to update Embedded Controller Programme - T43

    Dear Forum,
Could somebody please describe the best way to safely update 'Embedded Controller Programme' in a T43?
    - The computer is a Thinkpad T43 1871 PM1 machine
    - BIOS Version is 1.29
    - Embedded Controller Version is 1.03
    - Apparently this is the correct current Embedded Controller Version http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-59439
    - Should I boot the machine into safe mode rather than regular startup?
    - Should I deactivate my firewall (PCTools), my anti-virus (Avast) and Malwarebytes from running at startup before I shut my machine down?
    - Are there any other specific programmes I need to shut down? (eg. IBM Access or any of the IBM updates?)
    - Does the controller update require internet access? Or should I also disconnect the computer from the web?
    Thank you!! :-)
    Harryredknapp

    Hi Harry,
There is no need to boot the machine in Safe Mode, and yes it would be good idea to deactivate your firewall and antivirus products for the time being while the controller program is being updated.
When I run BIOS update, I don't turn off any Thinkvantage tools so in my experience they don't interfere with the update process, and as far as I know the controller program doesn't require internet access (if you're doing manual update from the setup saved on your thinkpad).
    Hope it helps.

  • Pass the BPEL Input Payload to Embedded Java Program

Please let me know how can we pass the Input to a BPEL process to the embedded Java Program.
    Requirement:
To pass the payload recieved by the BPEL process to a Java method using embedded java activity where we can parse/modify this payload
    I tried this approach
    Object obj = (Object)getVariableData('variableName');
//call to java method with obj as argument
    //In java method
    XMLElement xmlElement = (XMLElement)obj;
thereafter I am trying to read the nodes of this element but this is not working.
Please point me to any document/tutorial/examples in this context.
    Thanks

    Hi
the getVariableData() method returns a org.w3c.dom.Element object (10.1.3 version).
So I believe you should use something like:
    Object obj = (Object)getVariableData('variableName');
//call to java method with obj as argument
    //In java method
    org.w3c.dom.Element xmlElement = (org.w3c.dom.Element)obj;
And to read a node use this:
    org.w3c.dom.Node node = xmlElement.getFirstChild().getNodeValue();
However I never tried getVariableData('variableName'), I tried getVariableData('variableName','partName','query') so I don´t know the diferences between these two methods, but I hope this helps you.

  • Embedded Controller update (which is included with the BIOS update) for my T400

I have a T400. That's all I know.  I'm supposed to dwonload one of these two updates.
ThinkPad                                              Package version     BIOS version              Embedded Controller version
    T400 (with IEEE 1394 models)        3.09-1.05                  3.09 (7UET79WW)     1.05 (7VHT15WW)
    or a
    T400 (without IEEE 1394 models)   3.10-1.05                 3.10 (7VET80WW)      1.05 (7VHT15WW)
How do I know which one?
This answer didn't come with the download directions so a non-techie (me) cannot go further.

  • Programmatically determine version

Is there a way to retrieve a program's version from within the
program itself? I would like to output the program's version
when writing debug messages to a log file. Other version control
systems such as sccs and RCS allow embedding special strings in
a file which are replaced with descriptive text such as the
program's version when the file is checked out. Is there similar
    functionality with Repository?

Oracle Consulting has produced this functionality as an add on
to Designer. If you are interested, your local Oracle
Consultancy representative can provide you with this add-on for
Keyword Expansion; they can contact the iDevelopment Center of
    Excellence ([email protected]) for details.
The add-on allows you to expand or substitute keywords in your
source files with the following values:
    - version label
    - check in time/date
    - check in user (author)
    - check in branch
    - check in notes
    - object name
    - folder path
    - change history
    - merge contributors
    - originating version
The utility allows you to define your own keywords.
Also, the version label for forms etc. can be made visible at
    runtime.

  • Problems directly connecting Windows 7 HP EliteBook to NI PXIe-8135 Embedded Controller

For some reason my computer cannot connect to the NI PXIe-8135 Embedded Controller in my PXIe-1082 chassis. My computer recognizes that there is something there, but it cannot communicate with it (no packets recieved back, but packets sent). I've already checked my firewall settings, network settings, and anything else I could think of that might be preventing me from connecting to it but I have not found a single thing that tells me why I cannot connect.
Any ideas on troubleshooting this problem, or if someone has run into the same problem please let me know - any help is greatly appreciated!
    -flynneva

    Hi flynneva,
Are you using an ethernet cable to connect to your PC? It sounds like you just want to add this chassis to your network just like any other computer (with the embedded controller is a computer). Here is a link to Microsoft's page on this type of connection in case you haven't tried these options:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305621
Also, is this embedded computer running Windows or is it a RT controller? What does your computer do to recognize the connection and what are you using to read the data? Can you ping the IP address of the controller and receive a response?
    Thanks!

  • ACPIEC Embedded Controller error in Event Viewer on XP Partition

So, when in my XP (SP2) partittion I recently started to get hangs when I try to put the system to stand by/hybernation at the blue "preparing to go into Stand by..." screen. It just sits there, locks up and I end up having to reboot. In the XP's Event Viewer I see this ACPIEC error and that seems to be related to the BIOS. But, as we know, I am on a Mac so there is no "BIOS".
It says "The embedded controller (EC) hardware didn't respond within the timeout period. This may indicate an error in the EC hardware or firmware, or possibly a poorly designed BIOS which accesses the EC in an unsafe manner. The EC driver will retry the failed transaction if possible."
So, that is the only error I consistently see in the Event Viewer so I assume it is related, but if I am on a Mac and have no "BIOS" or "EC" how can I source this issue out in XP given it is a partition on my Mac?

  • Read the intial version of an ABAP Program

    Hi,
I need to download the first and the last version of an ABAP Program into a flat file. I used the "read report" statement and download the current active version of the program which is the last version but I need the initial version of the program too.
If we need to use one of the below function modules what would be the parameters to be passed into them,
    SCWB_GET_ABAP_CODE_OF_OBJECT
    RS_DETERMINE_OBJECT_SOURCE.
    Please advise.
    Regards,
    Prabaharan.G

    Hi,
I tried passing the version number as 1 but though the function module does not give  "no versions" message, it does not give any entries in the internal tables.
Could you please try it once and let me know the results.
