/dev/dvd missing?

Hi all,
I am  not shure if this is a right place for a post so be free to move it.
This morning I wanted to rip one dvd. I use acidrip for that. I had put dvd in reader, fired up acidrip and when I pressed "Load dvd" as I usually do I got error message something like no device or dvd. Acidrip was set to read from /dev/dvd and it was woking before.
Than I checked dvd and it is mounted in /media/dvdname.
When I looked at /dev/ there was no dvd there. I dont know much about /dev and its content. Did something changed recently in /dev/ ? Is dvd renamed under something else?
thanx
edit: Ok, it looks like there is no more some symlinks (dvd) created by udev.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=941382
I am still confused what to do.

You can use /dev/sr0

  • [SOLVED] /dev/sr0 and /dev/dvd missing

    Hello everybody,
I have a problem with my fresh installed Arch GNU/Linux.
If I start the PC without a CD in the drive, then both /dev/sr0 and /dev/dvd are missing.
After a loooong time I found out that starting the PC with a CD in the drive is a workaround....
Do you know what is the problem?
    Thanks!

  • Addding a Missing /dev/dvd under DevFS

    Hello.
I've just installed Arch Linux on a laptop with a removable CD-RW/DVD drive. This is recognized as /dev/hdb in dmesg. This system uses DevFS, not udev. I load ide-scsi in the MODULES line of rc.conf and have added a 'hdb=ide-scsi' line to grub's menu.lst.
What is mysterious to me is that while I have /dev/floppy/0 and /dev/cdrom, I can't seem to find /dev/dvd -- and when I set up a link to /dev/sr0, this link disappears on reboot.
Can anyone help me understand what I'm doing wrong here.
    Thanks.
    Win

    Hi Everyone.
I've been able to figure out what to do to get /dev/dvd and /dev/dvdr:
    (a) include 'ide-scsi' in MODULES in /etc/rc.conf
    (b) make changes to /etc/devfsd.conf
    # Use this to create /dev/dvd, /dev/dvdr
REGISTER    ^sr0$    CFUNCTION GLOBAL mksymlink $devname dvd
REGISTER    ^sr0$    CFUNCTION GLOBAL mksymlink $devname dvdr
UNREGISTER    ^sr0$  CFUNCTION GLOBAL unlink dvd
UNREGISTER    ^sr0$  CFUNCTION GLOBAL unlink dvdr

  • /dev/dri Missing

I have a MacbookPro 5,5 (nVidia 9400M) and am trying to use the nouveau driver.  I have installed both packages (nouveau-dri and the xf86 one), but the X server cannot start becasue there is no /dev/dri.  I have tried using a stock kernel and a custom kernel.
dmesg yeilds no output about nouveau, dri, or drm.
    The modules load fine.

  • [Solved] Where is ncurses-dev? (missing .h file)

    Hi all,
I'm trying to compile some code that uses ncursesw, however I don't have the <ncursesw/ncurses.h> file on my system.  I'm new to Arch but I thought these files were normally provided by -dev packages, so ncurses-dev in this case.  But I can't find this anywhere (not even in AUR) - what am I missing?  There are other people here who are compiling programs using ncurses, what did you do to install the header files?

Ah, that did it!  I misread the autoconf macro - I thought it defined a value if you had ncursesw.h present, but rather it defines a value if you have ncursesw present, and another value if you should use <ncursesw/ncurses.h> over just <ncurses.h>
    Thanks for your help!

  • Registry settings for burning CDs/DVDs missing when Itunes installed

I have recently had to reinstall ITunes following a computer crash. I am unable to burn to CD - when I start up ITunes I am told that the "registry settings are missing" and am told to reinstall, which I have done without success. I have not loaded any other CD/DVD burning software, and can burn CDs using other programmes. Any ideas? Thank you.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Audio in movie burned to DVD missing or sporadic.

I have converted a movie to Quicktime using MPeG Streamclip; something I have done numerous times.  The converted movie plays fine with good audio on my iMac hard drive.  I want to simply burn the movie to a DVD (without turning it into a project).   But, after burning the movie to a DVD the audio only comes though sporadically and out of sync,  AND it seems the DVD does not want to respond to my "control".  Meaning, when I hit the stop button the DVD continues to play a bit before stopping.  I have burned a number of DVDs with this burner - succesfully I might add - and this is the first I have had this problem.  Is it possible the burner is failing or is there another problem I am missing?  Thanks!

Further to the above problem, I burned a DVD of the same movie in another machine and have the same problem with the playback. The sound plays only intermittantly.  Seems is may be a problem with the conversion of the movie but still hoping for feedback from the community.  Thanks.

  • Presario 756NR Laptop CD\DVD Missing

I seem to have the same problem as some of the people with the CD\DVD is either missing or not installed.
I have tried the removing of the upper and lower filters  ( they are not in the file) and the device is not in the device manager.
I have done a total reformat this worked, I was able to load all the programs, then all of sudden it was gone.
I have pulled out the unit and put it back in, check the bios ( which is very limited ) on this model.
I have checked the event viewer to see where the problem started all it said was failed to load and bad block.
Is this a cause because of Norton's system that comes with it......dvd software?
I have this for a little over a year and all of sudden this started. So I know it still works it just shows up when it wants too.
Is there a different fix, or software that I should remove to solve this.
Any help would greatly be appreciated
    Thank you

I have the exact same problem.
    I have tried everything mentioned on this thread and even removed the drive momentarily to isolate the problem. After I have used all the solutions I could possibly find on the internet, I have derived a few questions;
                                             1. Is the drive physically broken? - The laptop's almost a year old and I hardly use it for burning DVDs. But, I have used it a few times to watch a few movies. There was a time that I've used the drive to read AVI movies. It made a very loud noise due to the imbalanced weight of the disc which was a few days before my drive disappeared.
                                             2.  Is it an OS(Vista Home Premium) issue? - I have worked on its registry (deleted upper and lower filters), downloaded a quick fix from Microsoft (the same procedure as the other conveniently packed into one file), tried rebooting and putting the PC to sleep and even checked the Device Manager for the drive (which is not possible since there's no DVD drive on the Device Manager to begin with). But I tried booting with the drive with another OS disk and still didn't work. I am unsure that it is a software problem.
                                             3. Is it the physical connection - I travel and use the machine almost everyday. It may have been jolted off from its connection between the drive and the board or a part within the drive itself had been jerked off.
I haven't tried removing the drive and installing it to another machine. I would deeply appreciate it if anyone would provide a solution or even just an explanation of whats happening to the Presario 756NR's  GSA-T20N Super Multi-Rewriter Drive.
    Many Thanks in advance

  • /dev/lom missing

    Hi,
Even though our SUN Netra 210 does have ALOM working fine, /dev/lom is not present on Solaris 9.
I already tried to install SUNWlomr, SUNWlomu and SUNWlomm, but the problem remains.
Does any know why /dev/lom is not showing up? Is it possible to fix this?
    Thanks!

    Thats created automatically by devfs.
    Try running devfsadm -v
I tried deleting it, and devfsadm recreates for me.
But if that doesnt fix it, try doing "touch /reconfigure" and rebooting..

  • Migration export dvd missing in system copy process

    Hi
    1. We are doing system copy of XI 3.00 server that is based on SAP
       Web AS 6.40.
    2. I'm following the "Homogeneous and Hetrogeneous system copy for SAP
System based on SAp Web AS ABAp 6.40 patch collection" document.
       Document version is 1.1 - July 11,2007.
    3. I'm using R3load tool for system copy (page 40 to 49). I exported
the database (XDV) as per guide and now trying to re-import in XQA.
    4. Central instance in XQa has been installed successfully and not i'm
stuck while installing the database instance. Process is looking for
"Migration export" dvd that i don't have.
Anyone get the same error? If someone suggest me the dvd number, i'll downlaod it from sapnet.
    Regards
    Amar

    Hi Elena
Thanks for all your help. Refresh process of XQA from XDV is almost completed. XQA is up and java is working. Visual admin/ configtool are working good.
I'm getting one problem. When i run tcode 'sxmb_ifr', it open the XDV link (http://dbcixdv:57000/rep/start/index.jsp) instead of XQA (http://rx2n1v1:57400/rep/start/index.jsp).
Also Integration repository, integration builder, SLD are all pointing to XDV server (dbcixdv).
I changed all setting (ID,IR, SLD, RWB) in 'http://rx2n1v1:57400:exchangeProfile' and it fixed  our problem but it also chnaged the XDV setting. Now XDV link is pointing to XQA server.
Here XDV and XQA are in two different hardware server.
Let me update pls how to fix this problem.
    Regards
    Amar

  • MPEG2- DVD missing audio

I recently exported a project in MPEG2-DVD and played it from my desktop before burning to a disc.  There is no audio in the export.  What did I do wrong, and how do I best export this 52 minute project to disc keeping HD resolution and audio?  Is there a better codec to use?

    Stan,
Thanks for your advice - I tried exporting the file with H.264 as you suggested and it worked perfectly.
The next problem was trying to download the 8GB file onto a flashdrive  which gave me error messages of not being able to handle a file of that size.  Research on he web and I figured out how to reformat the drive from fat32 to ntsl.
Again, thanks for the help.  I'm going to revisit Lynda.com on exporting and formats!

  • Install Disk DVD missing from box

My recent new (June 19, 2013) MacBook Pro did not ship with an "Install Disk" DVD. How do I replace the System Software if I need to do a clean re-install?

Since the Lion launch, Macs don't come with DVDs to reinstall Mac OS X and iLife apps.
Instead, new Macs (and all Macs upgraded to Lion and Mountain Lion) come with OS X Recovery, that allows you to reinstall OS X and access to some utilities in order to fix problems with your Mac. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
There's a Recovery partition in the hard drive, and to start up in that partition, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting. To start up into Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting. The only difference between them is that Internet Recovery reinstalls the original OS X version that came with your Mac, and the Recovery partition reinstalls the current version
