Dev Edition Z10: Random Reboots Throughout Day, Forgetting Passwords, Keyboard Disappearance, Rotation Lock

I have many issues to report that affect usability of the BlackBerry 10 device proided to developers. I have been using it as my daily driver since receipt. I have confirmed that these issues persist with others at work who have received Blackberry Z10s as part of a test deployment which comprimises the company's confidence in such a roll-out.
Summary of issues:
- Z10 randomly reboots multiple times a day both during use and when inactive.
- Z10 forgets account passwords and is unable to update the passwords without deleting and re-adding accounts.
- Z10 fails to make keyboard appear on the lock screen periodically, requires reboot.
- Z10 fails to remember rotation lock setting upon reboot.
- Z10 fails to alarm if in rebooting sequence during scheduled alarm time.
Since the device was not purchased through a carrier, I'm not sure how to escalate this and other issues. I have wiped the device previously and continue to experience the above issues. It is up to date with the latest firmware, which represnts another disappointment since the Q10 has been released with an update that is not available for the Z10 and which hopefully fixes these issues.
Gave up on BlackBerry and delisted all apps.

All those having the random reboots, yesterday BlackBerry published this Knowledge Base article on the issue:

  • New Z10 Random reboots and text notifications STILL

June 13th I upgraded from a Torch to the Z10. 3 days later, it was randomly rebooting about 4 times a day. I went through a wipe and reinstall and it seemed to work for about a week and then it started with the random rebooting as well as telling me I had texts when I didn't, and telling me every single day that there was a software upgrade available for the very same OS I already had on the phone!
I took it into Rogers and because it was past 2 weeks my options were dismal so I went with the free option. I had them send it in to be fixed. I just picked it up today and haven't even had it back 4 hours. I just got it back to where I wanted it preference wise and blammo! Random reboots and text notifications when there are none.
My options from here? Send it in AGAIN, or pay a $120 deductible through my protection plan for a 'new' phone (= refurbished - I was told they cannot guarantee me it would be brand new), or pay for the phone outright (in the neighborhood of $600) and then start a new plan for a different brand of phone (and yes, I will convert to the other side if this doesn't get resolved properly).
So frustrated because I feel it's extremely unfair to have to pay to own a device that doesn't even work just to get out of my contract (this is my provider but if they aren't able to get their money back from BB then why would they give me mine back?)... especially given that I received it just over a month ago and already had to send it out for a repair that didn't even work!
HELP!? I've tried everything... I'm SO disappointed and frustrated. I've been a loyal BB customer for over 5 years. This is about to end if there is no resolution. I need a phone I can rely on.
Thank you in advance to the powers that be - may they have mercy!

  • Z10 Random reboot a possible cause.

I also am having that seemingly random rebooting; till a pattern emerged.  With out my clip-on case and with the portable one that forms into a stand I noticed that every type the phone hit something hard on the back panel it reset.  Without the case, I started tapping with a small hard object and whenever I hit where under the battery is located, the phone rebooted every time. Replaced the battery, and so far, the problem has gone away. Could be because it is a new battery (connector do not the play that a battery that has been inserted many times has) or because it is a different battery or some other reason but whatever, the battery seems to be a part or all of the problem.
    Running OS 10.1.0.4181
    STL 100-3

That's been reported over on the Crackberry site also. It appears that some batteries and/or devices don't fit well together. Simply placing some folded paper or something similar, under the battery to keep it pushed snug up against the contacts fixed the problem for some people.
I was lucky, I guess, just had a few reboots (AT&T) and since the 10.1 update 3 weeks or more ago, I've had no problems at all with reboots.

This is completely random. And now nokia is saying that this phone is not having international warranty since this phone was bought in Singapore and sold in USA by manufacturer.

    Welcome to http://supportforums.blackberry.com/
Recommendation to backup with BlackBerry Link
Connect your blackberry z10 link to reload and make a piece of software factory.
Let me do the whole process.
After the process is completed you will have the OS 10.1
Finally updated to 10.2 if your carrier has released.
Another option is to install an autoloader can install the OS version 10.2.1.2234
    Good luck.

  • Help for N900 that randomly reboot and that have s...

    DISCLAIMER
A moderator deleted an entire thread with details that have helped many many users with N900 phones that are rebooting because they believed we were discussing debranding N900s..
Firstly, the N900 is not branded..
Secondly, we were discussing changing settings on the device to stop the devices from randomly rebooting.. Something SUGGESTED BY NOKIA on the bugs.maemo.org bug tracker website.
Nothing in this thread will invalidate your warranty and all information is condensed from official Maemo websites.
If your device is randomly rebooting:
RESTART YOUR DEVICE AFTER A RANDOM REBOOT
There is a counter inside your phone that increases by 3 every time it randomly reboots. If this counter reaches 50 (after 17 random reboots in a row) your device will probably stop booting ALL TOGETHER!
To stop your device from completely locking, you must power off your device normally. Use the power button then select "switch off". When you power your device back on, the counter is reset. Remember, if you don't reset your device, it will stop booting.
REPAIRING A DEVICE THAT NO LONGER BOOTS
If your device was randomly rebooting but now fails to boot it may have reached its count limit. When you turn on your device it may stop at the 5 dots loading screen and freeze.
Here's a method for getting your device working again.
    Download flasher-3.5:
For Nokia forums staff this is an OFFICIAL PUBLIC NOKIA TOOL. USING THIS TOOL DOES NOT AFFECT THE DEVICE WARRANTY. PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THIS POST AGAIN.
Flasher can be obtained from the Nokia website:
    http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-downloads.php
Download and install flasher onto your computer. For more information on using flasher, you can see the maemo page here:
    http://wiki.maemo.org/Flasher
    Turn off your N900
    Remove the battery
Insert the battery.. but leave it off
Plug the USB cable into your computer.. This may not work in ALL ports on your computer. Sometimes ports at the back of the computer work better than those at the front.
Open the keyboard on your N900, press and hold the 'u' button and plug the USB cable into the N900.. keep the u button pressed.
The Nokia logo should appear on your device, a small USB icon should appear in the top right of the N900 screen. The backlight may not light up leaving the screen dark. You can release the u button now
NOW ENABLE R&D MODE TO START THE DEVICE
Use flasher application. On windows 7 this may mean running in windows xp mode
Open a cmd window (start run cmd) then enter these commands:
    cd "\program files\maemo\flasher-3.5"
    flasher-3.5.exe --enable-rd-mode
Flasher should run for a few seconds then exit.. If it hangs "waiting for suitable device" Try another port on your computer. Try a different computer. Ask questions here. Flasher doesn't always work on all machines
Remove the USB cable from your N900 and turn it on. It should boot up. Note that there is a small spanner icon under the Nokia logo
If your device still does not boot:
Check that the spanner icon is present when you turn the device on. If it is not, the device is not in R&D mode.. Start going through these instructions again
If the spanner logo is present and the device still does not boot, stop.. this process may not help you
    Turn the N900 back off
Press and hold the u button on the keyboard and plug the USB cable in. Keep the u button pressed
The Nokia logo should appear on your device, a small USB icon should appear in the top right of the N900 screen. The backlight may not light up leaving the screen dark. You can release the u button now
NOW DISABLE R&D MODE TO START THE DEVICE
In the cmd window on your pc, re-run the flasher command with a different option:
    flasher-3.5 --disable-rd-mode
Remove the USB cable and turn the phone back on
CHANGE ENABLE_OFF_MODE TO STOP RANDOM REBOOTS
I have written a tool to help stop the random reboots on N900 devices. This tool issues the following command
    echo 0 > /sys/power/enable_off_mode
and updates the /etc/pmconfig file to make the change permanent
To use the tool you will need to install the rootsh package:
     http://maemo.org/downloads/product/raw/Maemo5/rootsh/?get_installfile
     Now download the fixpm.sh file:
     http://chris.intrepid.cx/N900/fixpm.sh
Open an x terminal and type the following command
    sudo gainroot
    sh MyDocs/.documents/fixpm.sh enable
If you would like to disable the update, you can use the following commands:
    sudo gainroot
    sh MyDocs/.documents/fixpm.sh disable
Please click the kudos button if you found this helpful and please let me know if you have problems with the instructions, need help with them or if they didn't work

    Congrats!!
There are some steps you can follow to help stop your phone from rebooting...
Follow the steps in the first post under the section:
CHANGE ENABLE_OFF_MODE TO STOP RANDOM REBOOTS
Open these links on your N900:
Download and install the rootsh package:
    http://maemo.org/downloads/product/raw/Maemo5/rootsh/?get_installfile
    Download the fix script:
    http://chris.intrepid.cx/N900/fixpm.sh
Save it in the Documents folder
Open an X terminal and run these two commands
    sudo gainroot
    sh MyDocs/.documents/fixpm.sh enable

  • MacBook Pro randomly reboots (desperate plea for help)

    Hi,
I've been trying to fix my dad's MacBook Pro for 2 days now and I'm very near to just throwing it out a window and telling him to never buy Apple again. I've done multiple OSX reinstalls, followed various guides on fixing - what seemed like - my specific problem and called Apple Support in the Netherlands numerous times, but all to no avail. There's so little info on what's actually going wrong and everywhere I look the solution always suggests i try to reinstall OSX (ML in my case). But when I do, the problem is still there. I'm fed up.
I know (now) there's a million threads out there describing random reboots, but I thought I'd try it anyway.
So, the system randomly reboots. There's no time-based pattern, and the errorreport is different after every OSX reinstall, but recently I noticed it crashes when accessing network info through the browser. More specifically: while most other sites work fine, it ALWAYS crashes when I visit WhatIsMyIp.com in Chrome (not Safari). Weird, I know. I've also seen NVDAResman and Geforce in the error reports before, but have no clue what that means.
After my recent OSX reinstall, the error report reads:

Any help is greatly appreciated. All Apple Support, in all their infinite knowledge, was able to suggest was a PRAM reset and "try a different network". What a joke.

Simply put there is a hardware problem. Some piece of hardware in the system has failed. That could be anything from the hard drive failing and corrupting drivers to the RAM to a part soldered on the Logic board.
The only place/people that can fix it is Apple. More then likely by replacing the Logic board which can be expensive.
Right never buy Apple products again. To closed of a system with only one recourse in cases like this. Giving more money to Apple to fix something that should not of gone wrong on such an expensive piece of hardware.
    Good Luck.

  • Random Reboots with dual channel

    Hi,
I just bought yesterday the following system.
Intel P4 2.8 Northwood HP enabled
    MSI 865PE/Neo 2 Platinum Edition
    Maxtor Diamond Star 9 200 GB 8MB Cache 7200rpm
    Elixir 2x512MB DDR 400 CL3
    Toshiba DVD 16x
    Creative Geforce 4 Ti 4400 128MB
Logitech Cordless Keyboard connected and a logitech cordless optical mouse
    19 inch belinea monitor.
The power supply is a no name product LPK2-30 with the following specs.
    420W
    3.3V 28A
    +5V 36A
    -5V 0.5A
    +12V 17A
    -12V -0.8A
It says that is P4 ready, i know which does mean nothing
    Operating System:
    Windows XP Professional SP1
    All Hotfixes and Updates applied
Newest drivers for all the system parts
The errors during the windows crashes are irq not less or equal or page fault, which looks for me pretty much like a problem with the memory.
Ok what i tried so far.
Single channel with 512MB works fine.
Single channel with 1GB works fine except one strange thing restarting the machine and it got stuck during the bios loading worked fine after i pressed reset.
Dual channel 1/3 1 GB get random reboots.
Dual channel 2/4 1 GB even worse but i think at this point my newly installed died.
I tried to set memory voltage from 2.65 up to 2.8 but did not change the behaviour.
memtest with one modules in slot 1 no errors
memtest with dual channel 1/3 1 gb no errors running 30 minutes
i will try now a memtest with the second single module in memslot 3.
No MAT or dot ram settings are 3,3,3.
I am bit running out of ideasö
before i forget i updated the bios from 3.3 to 3.5 but did not change the problems.
Maybe you guys have some ideas what else can i try.
thx a lot in advance. i hope i provided all informations which are necessary.
    greetings faxe

    Hi,
i tried a few more things which make confident that i have the problem narrowed down to the memory.
i tried to install windows again with only using the third memory slot single channel and it worked fine.
now i tried to go down with the memory speed to ddr333 and using dual channel and so far that seems to work too.
so i think i will go for other memory.
if you think i am wrong please correct me
    greetings markus

  • [nforce] K7N2 Delta, having massive lock-ups / random reboots.

Hi all, it's been a while since I last needed your wisdom. Anyway, a couple of days ago my machine began to randomly reboot on me, so I went about trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I've cycled out my PSU, my drives, changed BIOS settings, so on and so forth, and it's still happening. System Specs follow:
    MSI K7N2 Delta Mobo
    Athlon 2800+ Processor
    512 x 2 Kingston ValuRAM PC3200
    Generic PSU : 3.3v : 28a, 5v: 30a
EVGA Nvidia Geforce 5950 Ultra 256 MB
Seagate 200GB 7200 RPM Hard drive
    Lite-on DVD/CDRW Combo burner
Any ideas? I've been dismantling this thing and rebuilding it over and over for about a week now, and nothing has changed. I get the reboots all the time, graphic-intensive and not. I've even had the machine freeze up in the BIOS menu before. Help me please!!!

  • Mid 2012 MacBook Air Troubles (Random Reboots & No Camera)

Hello, I'm hoping somebody can help me out. I have a mid 2012 Apple MacBook air that I am having problems with. Ever since I bought this laptop from my friend, it has randomly rebooted during sleep mode, and the FaceTime camera has not worked. I was told that water has been spilled on it at one point, but I have went over the entire computer and do not see any sort of damage. Because I was not having any luck getting it to quit the rebooting, and because the camera would not work, I purchased a replacement motherboard and battery.
The new parts arrived today, and I quickly installed them. I was instantly having the same exact problems. The computer will still reboot when I close the lid to put it in sleep mode. It instantly starts rebooting after about 2 to 3 minutes. And it will continue to reboot over and over until I reopen the lid. In addition the camera is still not detected, and I have double checked under the system properties that it is not showing up under the USB tab. I have cleared the PRAM & SMC, still no changes. As a last ditch effort, I decided to reinstall OSX 10.9 Mavericks as a fresh install. No go...
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get this thing running properly? I bought it because I wanted to use it for some home-video editing, and in its current condition I don't feel that it is trustworthy. The only things left that I can replace, would be the display or the thunderbolt daughterboard. I already previously had replaced the SSD with a larger 256 GB, and I tried swapping out the wifi card as well. I'm banging my head against the wall here, and really want to be able to use this computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you get the answer you need here, I would contact Apple MacBook Air Support or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
Apple Service Technicians have access to all special tools, test equipment, parts, and proprietary data needed for efficient repairs.  If cost is your issue, you can ask for an estimate before they proceed with any needed repairs.

  • Yosemite random reboots on macbook mid 2012

Well I've read thoroughly all the posts related to this kind of issue and it seems it affects a wide range of devices. Either mac minis or 2011 macbooks and so on.
I would like to explain my experience and ask for any advice available. I am experienced with computers and OS's, even though I would not call myself an expert, but as an engineer I possess a certain amount of knowledge. So there it goes.
    TL;DR at the bottom
Macbook pro mid 2012 13". Default 4gb memory installed, I added a Samsung EVO 830 SSD in 2012 when I bought it, never had any problems with it.
After a couple of weeks after upgrading to yosemite (november '14) I started noticing the macbook resting on login screen after a reboot. No crash report, no message visible of any reason. As I was installing some special software to do some work related to a lab I was working at the time, I thought it was software related. MS Word and Excel often crashed and I had a couple of problems with other programs. Then it started doing it while I was working, so I decided to check things out. The system freezed for some seconds - 1-2 minutes and proceeded to reboot. Sometimes a hard reset had to be performed.
I decided to perform different installations with different options in order to identify the problem:
Reinstall Yosemite from recovery mode: same result, random reboot, no specific app in use, either Xcode, Safari, or just resting idle with just finder.
Format disk and install yosemite applying time machine backup: same result, random reboot, no specific app, and so on.
Format disk and clean install, manually installing the same main software installed previously: same result, random freezes and reboots.
Format disk and clean install, manually installing essential apps (mac app store only): same result, exactly the same result.
Always with the latest OS version available, and with TRIM enabled and disabled, to discard issues with it. PRAM and SMC resets all along.
During all the testing, the console has not shown any crash report or kernel panic related to the event. After every reboot, console would not show anything special before the boot_time line.
After looking for solutions on different forums, I noticed a pattern on some cases that implied a wake on lan or a handoff, or wifi issue. I tested on different networks, disabled and enabled all options commented, with no effect.
    Entering
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CSeq 'n Cause: -' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'
on terminal 90% of the time returned errors -128, and some -112 or -2, but they would not be logged to every freeze, just some of them. By the time the
As they may indicate a hardware error, I decided to proceed with the warranty.I bought the Applecare extension when I bought the computer (expiring this summer) so I talked to Applecare about the issue. As there is not an official Apple Store in my town they pointed me to an ASP in my city. They noted all the issues I commented above, gave me a case number to deliver to the ASP so they would have all the information.
I brought the computer to the ASP, gave them the case number (which they totally ignored, the employee seemed oblivious to what a "case number" was) and expected them to find the error. As I noticed the freeze could be sometimes forced via waking up the laptop, I made them a demo. I had ran already the apple hardware test and any hardware tests I was aware of. Etrecheck came out without issues or anything worth mentioning, so I thought they might have specific apple tools to identify hardware error.
They told me they could not find any error on the computer, but that they found errors in the SSD, swapped it with one of theirs to test and no issues found. Good, I thought, at least they found the issue even though all tests run on the SSD by me did not show any trace of it. They charged me 25€ for the service as the SSD was not part of the original computer. As I had been experiencing issues for some time I did not care. I asked them for some kind of report to check the error to provide to the SSD manufacturer, Samsung, as they offer 3-year warranty on SSD's and it had not yet expired. The report said "errors in disk", plain and simple, I asked to talk to the technician for extra info, but he could not remember if it was "corrupted sectors" or something else.
Contacted Samsung, sent my SSD in, and in 4 days I had a new (refurb maybe) SSD same model same size at my door. During those 4 days I reinstalled my old  original HDD. As it had a few miles on it (using it as external disk) it was really slow and sometimes it would freeze but the whole system was always dragging, so it could be also failing. Worth mentioning that when swapping disks I noticed the ASP had messed up the position of the small screws on the back of the computer. They did not seem to know there are 4 shouldered screws and 3 regular ones.
I put the new or refurb SSD in, clean install and do some testings. First day everything ok. Proceed to install software. Seems ok. After a couple of days the first freeze and reboot appears. After a couple of PRAM and SMC zaps, events seem to be reduced to a minimum. Even though the system is not completely stable, and I am not quite satisfied with the uncertainty of the freezes (in the middle of a presentation is not the best moment to have one), as it's freezing 1-3 times per week I consider it reasonable.
Time goes on, freezes start to appear again. Sometimes while booting, sometimes on login screen, sometimes on heavy usage sometimes on idle. I still follow all threads related to similar issues, in case a fix appears. All sleep / wake / wifi on - off on sleep tests have been performed.
Now the issue seems to be reduced to two kind of events: random freezes and reboots, and errors while booting. None, and I mean zero of the reboots or freezes has ever had a .crash or any system diagnostic reports related to the hour or even date when the freezes took place. EVER.
While booting, it crashes and I have to hard reset 2-3 times. When freezing, 30% of the time it does not reboot, and gets warmer than idle state but cooler than under heavy load.
I usually zap pram and smc and then it boots normally. But I should not have to be doing that every time I turn it on.
I know its a long post, but it's something I have been following for 5 months now. It's not that I am unaware of different options to solve it. Zapping seems to be the way to go, but still the random freezes interrupt workflow and provoke loss of data.
TL;DR: same freeze and reboots as other people. No discrete GPU to relate it to. Default memory installed, SSD model working on 10.8 and 10.9 with zero issues. All software installation combinations tested. ZERO crash reports on console related to the hour or date of the events. Shutdown causes negative codes, ASP cannot find the issue.
Considering bringing it to Genius Bar, but undermines the purpose of a ASP and if they got the same tools they will not find the issue either.
Appelcare expires in June. Any options I am unaware of? I would relate it to the specific model of SSD under Yosemite if I was the only one experiencing freezes and reboots, which I am not.
    Thanks you

Boot into Safe Mode. If the problem ceases then you need to remove Virtual Box and the software that installed com.bluecoat.kext.bckd 4.4.1f20. If this does not fix the problem then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Early 2011 MBP 13 random reboots (no Kernel Panic logged)

    Hi,
    Problem Description:
My MacBook Pro randomly reboots at least 1-2 times a day. I cannot find a kernel log because each restart is a double one.
Let me explain the problem further : 1. Im doing something (nothing specific..no specific app) on the mac 2. The screen freezes and becomes unresponsive ( I know a reboot is coming)
    3. I get the gray screen which says "Your computer restarted because of a problem..." ...this is followed by the white screen with the apple sign..it loads for a few seconds and it reboots AGAIN..this time i hear the chime...loads into the OS normally ...works until i either shut it down / put it to sleep / another random restart (varies from 1 hour to 6 hours )
    Things I've tried :
    SMC / PRAM reset
    Erase Drive and TimeMachine Restore
Apple Hardware Tests / Diagnostics all pass
Verify / Repair permissions / disk (did this a million times)
    Reindexed Spotlight
Erased Drive and did a clean install and MIGRATED files from TimeMachine
Safe Mode ( THIS did not have random reboots...also fyi ..i didn't try this for long)
    Logs Data:
Since I don't have the .panic files. I am pasting a chunk of the log before and after the PROBLEM.

MacBook Pro 13 (MBP 8,1 random restarts)

  • IPhone 5 random reboots, won't power on etc.

Launch Day iPhone 5 (totally out of warranty).  Replaced the battery myself after 600 full cycles on 2/5/14.  Battery #2  worked great for 6 months then wouldn't hold a charge and died completely 9/14/14.   Put original battery back in until battery #3 came.  Wouldn't keep a charge and died.  Presently, only one of the three batteries will make the phone turn on, and the phone randomly reboots and hovers between 3-11% and will not charge any higher.  I have tried multiple official apple lightning cables and power blocks, updated the phone to ios 8, restored and set up as new to ios 8.  don't know what else to try.
Anyone ever replace a battery, have this happen, or anything similar.  I started to think it was crappy ebay and amazon batteries doing it, but all three batteries acting crazy ? not too sure now.
I should note that home, power, and volume buttons and touch screen work perfectly.  I have checked as best of my ability to ensure that all connectors were seated properly inside the phone.
thanks for any help. have changed about 25 iphone batteries between the 4, 4S, 5, and 5S.

Apple does not sell any service parts to consumers.  Any 'replacement' battery you used is either:
    A) Counterfeit
    B) Salvaged
    C) Stolen
Therefore, I'm not surprised you've run into problems.
Additionally, this forum does not allow discussion of non-approved service methods.  Therefore, I suggest you seek answers to this questions elsewhere.
Also, your iPhone is now no longer eligible for any kind of support from Apple because of the unauthorized modifications, so service or support for Apple, even for a fee, is not available.
    Good luck.

  • Maverick makes system unstable.  Randomly reboots

After installing Maverick operating system, my system will randomly reboot.  How do I troubleshoot this?

I also have the same phone, and have had multiple problems from day one, including rebooting, although not as often as yours.  I actually took it in to the local store within the two week period, when you are supposed to get your phone replaced if it isn't working correctly.  The young lady told me that she couldn't get it to do what I was telling her it was doing, which was that any time I speak on this phone, to this day, unless I put it on speaker, my face presses buttons and eventually cuts off the call!  In addition, my phone repeatedly blurts out, very loudly, over and over "Verizon Wireless,"  for no reason that I can find.  It drives me crazy!!  This phone also constantly simply drops calls in the middle of a conversation, even on speaker.  I won't bore you with the rest of the problems that I'm having with it, because it goes on and on.  I am not willing to accept a "refurbished" phone, and have called Motorola, who has offered to repair my phone if I will send it to them, but Verizon is so far not willing to loan me a phone while mine is being repaired.  I thought that I was realling upgrading from my Droid X, and now I'm very, very sad that I didn't just keep it.

Nope, never jail broke it.  Just randomly started the other day.
Recovery Mode is your last resort per the instructions here.  Also, read this.
If still no joy, make an appointment with the resident "Genius" at the closest Apple Store.
