/dev/hme and /dev/ip trace/log messages

Hi,
I want to enable debug messages from above drivers. I tried setting "ip_debug" flag using "ndd" but I did not see any debugging messaged in "/var/adm/messages". Where does IP send its debug messages? How about /dev/hme? Is there any debug facility?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You probably have this "logging" configuration set
logging trap debugging
This can be confirmed by using the below command to show all "logging" related configurations
show run logging
The "logging trap" sets the level of log messages that are sent to your Syslog server. So considering its set to "debugging" or "7" means that you are essentially logging everything possible with regards to the logging level.
The more typical level for this is either "informational" or "notifications"
I tend to keep it at "informational" though it generates a lot of logs still but its good in the sense that it logs all the connections/translations formed on the firewall and also logs when they are removed from the firewall.
If you were to configure "notifications" you would only tend to see the connections attempts that are blocked by the firewall and the log amount would be pretty minimal
Then again you also have the option to disable certain log messages altogether. You could for example disable the messages that tell you that a translation was formed/teardown which would already remove a considerable amount of logged messages.
Then I guess there might be change to create a custom list of messages you are interested in also.
You can also change the default level at which some logging level is logged.
I guess the last options I mention would take some research on your part to determine which would serve you the best.
The last options you mention in the post dont have anything to do with the Syslog servers logging. They are related to the console connection and the logs that is stored in the firewalls buffer which should be visible with the "show logging" command.
Hope this information helps

    Hello everybody,
I have a problem with my fresh installed Arch GNU/Linux.
If I start the PC without a CD in the drive, then both /dev/sr0 and /dev/dvd are missing.
After a loooong time I found out that starting the PC with a CD in the drive is a workaround....
Do you know what is the problem?
    Thanks!

  • Messages to /dev/sysmsg and /dev/console are displayed on the CDE Desktop

I noticed that after reboots any message sent to /dev/sysmsg or /dev/console is displayed to the CDE Desktop (wallpaper). After I log out then log back in the problem disappears. This happens in global zones only and not in a non-global (local) zone.
(the only service I see with "svcs -xv" is the Print Service)
To repeat the problem I have to do the following:
    1. Reboot (init 6)
    2. Login to the CDE as a user.
    3. Open an Xterm window, and in the windows, "su" to root
    4. Observe a "su on ..." message on the CDE desktop in big white "OBP" looking mono-spaced text.
    5. Log out of the CDE
    6. Login to the CDE as a user.
    7. Open an Xterm window, and in the windows, "su" to root
    8. Problem has disappeared, no more logging of console like messages to the CDE desktop.
As well, if I do something like this after I reboot, and on 1st log in:
    echo "Hi there" > /dev/console
    echo "Another Hello" > dev/sysmsg
I'll see both messages print to the Desktop of the CDE. If I log out and log back in, I will no longer see this kind of behavior.
    My Hardware: Sun Netra CP3260
My Software: Sun Solaris 10 5/08 Update 5 with 137137-09
    Additional info:
/etc/syslog.conf - does have a line that directs some output to /dev/sysmsg
    /etc/default/su - does list: CONSOLE=/dev/console
I did comment out the above two lines in my syslog.conf and /etc/default/su, and the behavior goes away, however this is a workaround and not a fix of the issue.
    Any ideas?

  • Can't see /dev/cdrom and /dev/dvdrw

    Hi,
I have created a guest Oracle Enterprise 5 64bit. I want to mount the dvd but I don't see /dev/cdrom or /dev/dvd etc. How can I add these devices and mount the dvd?
    Thanks.

Hi, as other people already explained in other threads it's not easy (if not impossible) to mount a physical CD/DVD reader/burner to a Guest.
If it can be somehow useful, if you have an ISO image (file) of the CD/DVD you want to use, you can copy/ftp this ISO file to your VM guest and then:
mount ./your-file-name.iso /mnt -o loopThis will mount the ISO image to the /mnt directory. Then you can "cd /mnt" and use it.
    Hope it can help somehow.

  • Phone SD card mounts to /dev/sdh (not /dev/sdh1)

I got a new Android phone (<3) the Samsung i7500. Its internal and external SD cards mount to /dev/sdh and /dev/sdi respectively. I found out with dmesg:
scsi8 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
    usb-storage: device found at 7
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
scsi 8:0:0:0: Direct-Access Samsung SAMSUNG Android Mass PQ: 0 ANSI: 2

sd 8:0:0:0: [sdh] Attached SCSI removable disk
sd 8:0:0:1: [sdi] Attached SCSI removable disk
    usb-storage: device scan complete
And fdisk doesn't list them. And these are actual partitions, not disks. I mounted them, and they have the stuff I'm looking for. Why is it like this? One bad thing about this is that fdisk -l doesn't list them, and I have to use dmesg to look at where they pop up each time. That's rather unnecessary IMO.

I suppose that the filesystem could have been written to the raw device and not to a partition. This is fine as long as you don't need multiple filesystems on one device (i.e. multiple partitions).

  • New rooms, permissions, and dev login

i use the server integration API to create a new room on the fly.  however, that new room requires an initial dev account login before the multiuser features are permitted.  i cannot do this manually through the room console because in my application new rooms are created dynamically when a user creates a new account within my own application.
i see no way in the server integration API to accomplish this dev login, and creating a SWF that does that dev login automatically to "authorize" the room is totally insecure due to dev credentials existing therein.
is there any way to permit multiuser features in a newly created room without having to manually log in via the room console?  if not, this is a serious hurdle to creating commercial applications with AFCS.

thanks nigel, i thought i was doing this already but it appears i wasn't supplying the template name.  much appreciated.
while trying to figure this out, i was seeing a lot of uncaught exceptions thrown into the flash player .  i've been able to catch most of them with try/catch blocks, but this one remains (see stack trace below) :
so far i can't find where this uncaught exception is being thrown.  i'm publishing/subscribing to webcams and audio, starting a chat, and listening to UserManager events, but i have try/catch blocks all around those.  any idea where this exception might be thrown?  i just want to catch it and report my own error to the user instead of it happening through the flash player dialog.

  • Query Comparison in DEV, QA and PROD

    Hi,
Is there any way to compare the queries in DEV, QA and PROD to make sure that all the boxes have all the queries (provided we have followed the system landscape like transporting from DEV to all other two).
If not (this is happenning most of the time, because users are creating queries directly in PROD), we have to compare each and every query against the particular Data target in all the three environment.
We want to have a control in such a way that all queries are only created in DEV by the users and we will transport to QA and PROD. Once after making sync between landscape, we will restrict the access to the users to create directly in PROD.
    Please help urgently.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi,
Use S_RS_COMP and S_RS_COMP1 for BEx security and specifically for Query use S_QUERY.

  • Diff bteween trace, log and audit log

Diff bteween trace, log and audit log....?
    Harsha

    Hi,
Audit Log :The adapter engine uses the messaging system to log the messages at every stage, This log is called the Audit Log.
The audit log can be viewed from the runtime work bench(RWB) to look into the details of the life cycle of the message. During our journey we will also have a look at the messages that are logged at different stages.
Audit logs are mainly used to trace our messages. In case of any failures, we can easily trace where message stands. we can give the entries for the logs in UDFs, custom modules etc..
Audit logs are generally gives us the sequence of the steps from where the message is picked up with file name and path and how the message is sent to the I.E pipeline..it also shows the status of the message like DLNG,DLVD like that...generally we look into the audit logs if there are any errors in message processing...
It gives the complete log of your message.
Go to RWB --> Component Monitoring --> Adapter Engine --> Communication channel Monitoring --> Select the Communicatin channel --> click on use filter --> then click on the Message Id.
    Trace Log:
    Log file:
A log file contains generally intelligible information for system administrators. The information is sorted by categories and is used for system monitoring. Problem sources or critical information about the status of the system are logged in this file. If error messages occur, you can determine the software component that has caused the error using the location. If the log message does not provide enough details to eliminate the problem, you can find more detailed information about the error in the trace file.
The log file is located in the file system under
"/usr/sap/SID/instance/j2ee/cluster/server[N]/log/applications.[n].log" for every N server node.
Access the file with the log viewer service of the J2EE visual administrator or with the standalone log viewer.
    Trace file:
A trace file contains detailed information for developers. This information can be very cryptic and extensive. It is sorted by location, which means by software packages in the Java environment, for example, "com.sap.aii.af". The trace file is used to analyze runtime errors. By setting a specific trace level for specific locations, you can analyze the behavior of individual code segments on class and method level. The file should be analyzed by SAP developers or experienced administrators.
The trace file is located in the file system under
"/usr/sap/SID/instance/j2ee/cluster/server[N]/log/defaultTrace.[x].trc" for each N server node.
Access the file with the log viewer service of the J2EE visual administrator or with the standalone log viewer.

  • Different SAPlogon screen for prd and dev systems

    Hi!
I would like to distinguish the SAPlogon screen for production and development systems.
For example:i logged into to the SAP system by SAPlogon and i want to see in the right top corner of the screen the letter P or D, etc.
Could you advise me how to do it?
    Thank you!
    Dan

I think this can be done but little difficult.
After installing your sapgui, you have to change the picture in the right corner which you can find inside the folder programfiles-sap-sapgui and can search in the picture. If you replace the picture with your picture, you can find it there. But i dont think it can be done seperately for dev, qual and prod systems.

  • Relation between DFM event and dev syslog

In LMS 3.2, DFM has 28 events to inform network administrators for any alerts. Also RME has syslog report. Looks like there are some relation between these two sets. Anyone can help me to give some brief summary for this relation?
As I noticed that DFM events have not included all of severity 0 and 1 syslog and not all of DFM events can be found in syslog. This is true, since DFM is using polling methods (most of them) to collect info. Syslog is sent by dev.  Does DFM also is doing some syslog analysis or totally not deal with dev ?
    Thanks in advance.
    gy

Actually, there is no direct relation between the RME syslog reports and DFM.  As you pointed out, DFM is doing mostly polling to build its events and alerts while RME is looking purely at syslogs sent by the device.  On some occasions, DFM will detect a situation which also caused the device to send a syslog message (e.g. a switchport may send an err-disable message and DFM finds both a HighErrorRate event along with an OperationallyDown event for the same port).
Really, DFM and RME syslog reports are two complementary processes.  Combined, they can give a more complete picutre about what is happening on a given device during a device level event.
DFM does not process any syslog messages.  If can, however, send its events and alerts out as syslog messages to another syslog host (but not RME since RME would not understand those messages).  This is done via DFM > Notification Services.
