Dev_webdisp_watchdog file maximum - enable log rotation

Hi all,
we are using web dispatcher 7.2, we start our dispatcher with the below command.
./sapwebdisp pf=/sapmnt/WPQ/profile/WPQ_W01_biddeford -auto_restart -f dev_webdisp &
we can see two process started one watchdog and one main process.
parallelly two log files are created dev_webdisp_watchdog & dev_webdisp.
When the dev_webdisp_watchdog reaches its maximum limit, it creates a new file dev_webdisp.old (instead of dev_webdisp_watchdog.old)  and writes logs to that dev_webdisp.old file.
Also when dev_webdisp.old reaches its maximum limit, the log file stops.
We want to enable log rotation, can some one help so that the log files rotates?
Also the watch dog should writes logs to dev_webdisp_watchdog.old instead of dev_webdisp.old, not sure why its happening?
is it a bug?
Regards
Senthil

Hi,
the trace dev_webdisp_watchdog is created if you start the web dispatcher with the
-auto_restart option for the high availability
Regaring the trace rotate, take a look if you are using options like
rdisp/TRACE_LOGGING and rdisp/TRACE_PATTERN_0. See note 112.

Clébio

  • Java.io.IOException: Failed to rename log file on attempt to rotate logs

    Hello.
    I'm currently using Weblogic 5.1 SP6 on WinNT Server 4.0 SP6.
    I set the weblogic.properties file like this so that the "access.log" will
    be rotated every day at midnight.
    -- weblogic.properties --
    weblogic.httpd.enableLogFile=true
    weblogic.httpd.logFileName=D:/WLSlog/access.log
    weblogic.httpd.logFileFlushSecs=60
    weblogic.httpd.logRotationType=date

    weblogic.httpd.logRotationBeginTime=11-01-2000-00:00:00
    -- weblogic.properties <end>--
    The rotation has been working well, but one day when I checked my
    weblogic.log, I was getting some errors.
    I found out that my "access.log" wasn't being rotated (nor being written,
    flushed) after this error came out.
    After rebooting WebLogic, this problem went away.
    Has anyone clues about why WebLogic failed to "rename log file?"

    I'm also getting this error on Weblogic 6.1.1.
    It only occurs if you set the format to "extended".
    Is there any fix or workaround for this?

  • When using wusa.exe to install MSU update package and enabling logging using the /log switch, what format are the log files in?

    I have been installing a number of hotfixes for Windows 7 using MSU files and the wusa.exe utility included in Windows. I thought it would be a good idea to generate separate log files for each update as it was installed since wusa.exe now supports this
    option using /log:<file name>. However, the log files created do not seem to be regular text files or any other log file format that I immediately recognize. When opened in Notepad or Wordpad you can see that they contain a lot of additional binary data
    which can't be read by a regular text viewer.
    Does anyone know what format these log files are in? What tool should you use to read them?

    Only Microsoft can manage to design something as stupid as this. If you start wusa from the command line, it pops up the alternative command line switches. For log, it just says: " /log     - installer will enable logging". It doesn't say that you
    should specify the log file name, hence not HOW you specify it (" /log:<path\filename>.") It doesn't say what extension to use for the file, alas which file type it is (" /log:<path\filename.evtx>."). You open it in notepad, you cannot read it.
    You open it in sccm's cmtrace.exe/trace32.exe, you get nothing. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO IMPLEMENT THIS IN A WORSE WAY. How can something be so bad? How can Microsoft get such stupidity inhouse, when you need to go through six interviews or something to get in??
    I cannot believe it - unfortunely, this is seen again and again.

  • [logging] Problems to configure logging rotation.

    Hi,
    I have an application .ear deployed in weblogic v10.3.1.0
    This application use java.util.logging to write a log file.
          fh = new FileHandler(logFileName,0,1,true);
          fh.setFormatter(new XMLFormatter());
          logger.addHandler(fh);
    FileHandler(String pattern, int limit, int count, boolean append)
    pattern - the pattern for naming the output file
    limit - the maximum number of bytes to write to any one file. If this is zero, then there is no limit. (Defaults to no limit).
    count - the number of files to use
    append - specifies append mode
    http://www.javadocexamples.com/java/util/logging/java.util.logging.FileHandler.html
    logFileName is dynamic with date formated like this yyyMMdd + ApplicationName + ".log"
    This file is created but I have also yyyyMMddSEC.log.1, yyyyMMddSEC.log.2, yyyyMMddSEC.log.3,...
    I DON'T WANT THESE FILES_, that's why I put limit to 0, count to 1 and append to true.
    This code works without jdev/weblogic but has not effect in weblogic.
    Q1. Why?
    So I go to Weblogic console: Domain Structure-> DefaultDomain->Logging
    Log file name: logs/DefaultDomain.log
    Rotation type: None
    NONE
    Messages accumulate in a single file.
    You must erase the contents of the file when the size is too large.
    Note that WebLogic Server sets a threshold size limit of 500 MB before it forces a hard rotation to prevent excessive log file growth.
    But it doesn't work, Weblogic continue to create log files like this *<filename>.log.<n>*
    Q2. Why?
    I have also created weblogic.xml in ViewControler/WEB-INF
    thanks to this documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs103/webapp/weblogic_xml.html#wp1063199
    but it doesn't work...again.
    Q3. Why?
    Q4. If I want applications manage themselves their log, how to deactivate the logging handler in weblogic (LogFileMBean?)
    Thanks for your help.

    You may want to ask in the WebLogic Server - Diagnostics / WLDF / SNMP forum. They own logging.

  • LMS - log rotation based on time period

    Dear All
    can we configure log rotation to be based on time period (ex:past one year)instead of log file size.
    if it is feasable please advise who to do it?
    Regards;
    Antonio

    I am not sure if I understand it correct, but you can do this easily by defining the expected file size of the log file to rotate;
    logrot runs on a scheduled basis and checks if the log file has reached the defined file size - if not it will do nothing else the file will be backed up. The key point is the configured file size;
    I use this for the syslog file to have a backup for each month:
        schedule logrot to run every first of each month and set the file size to a low value guarantes that I ve got a file for every month;
    from the online help of logrot:
    http://:1741/help/cmf/index.html?sysad_adm_logrotate.html
    4. Specify the number of archive revisions. If you do not want to keep any archives, enter 0 (the default) for this option.
    5. Specify the maximum file size. The log will not be rotated until this size is reached. The unit is in kilobytes (KB). The default is 1024 KB or 1 MB.
    why do you want to keep all log messages of a complete year in one file - what do you want to do?

  • How to enable log gathering in Nokia Suite?

    Feeling a bit dumb here. All the instructions I've read suggest to enable log gathering by double-clicking enable_logs.js, which should prompt some sort of a dialog window. The problem is, I can't run .js files, I can only view them in Notepad, Firefox, etc. How exactly is this thing done?

    Hi,
    We have created FAQ for log collecting with new versíon 3.2:
    How can i send the log files with the Nokia Suite 3.2?
    Disconnect your device from your computer and exit Nokia Suite from File > Exit. Enable log gathering by double-clicking the enable_logs.js file in installation folder, normally C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Suite. Then open Nokia Suite again and reconnect your device. Try to reproduce the error and click Help > Send feedback in Nokia Suite menu and fill in the description of the bug. Log files and system information will be automatically included in the feedback. You can also add screen shots and other files by choosing Add file (maximum size 5 MB).
    Please let us know  for the result.

  • Apache log rotation

    From the documentation here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/adobemediaserver/configadmin/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2926 0bd-7ffa.2.3.html is is stated that " Adobe Media Server handles log rotation for the Apache logs." However, it appears not to be the case.
    My logs in /opt/adobe/ams/Apache/logs are not rotating.
    Can you help with this? Does AMS handle this or will I need to manually logrotate?
    Regards,
    A

    So this isn't working?:
    1. "One option is to rotate log files, moving or deleting the oldest files."
    I usually rename the old log files whenever/before the server needs to be restarted and that forces the server to generate new log files.
    2. "Use the rotation element in the Logger.xml file to specify a rotation schedule for log files. Two types of rotation schedules can be established. The first option is to set a daily rotation at a certain time. For example, setting daily at 00:00 rotates files every 24 hours at midnight. Alternatively, set a rotation that occurs when the log exceeds a specified length. Name, maximum file size in kilobytes, and maximum number of log files to keep can also be customized using the
    rotation element. For an example, see the Logger.xml file installed in the /conf directory."
    Did you modify the Logger.xml file to change the log rotation time? Save a copy of the original file before you modify it.
    3. You can also try to use a third party module (this might/might not work for you depending on your system specs): http://www.sitebuddy.com/mod_log_rotate
    mod_log_rotate.so seems pretty simple to set-up and implement.

  • Possible bug during logout with Time Machine and File Vault enabled?

    I have File Vault enabled on my machines so when I logout from them they do a backup to my Time Capsule.
    *I don't login as root!*
    Yesterday when I logged of everything was normal in the beginning.
    All windows were closed and the progressbar showed up with the backup. Approx: halvway in the backup the finder was showned again.
    See image: http://www.liajnad.se/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/leopard-logout.jpg
    I couldnt open o terminal window as root but I was able to browse around in the filesystem as root even though I hadn't login as root.

    Just to clarify, the new finder that was started had *root privilegies!*

  • LMS3.2 Log rotation problem

    Hi,
    we use LMS3.2 (windows single-server)  for ~4500 devices and have a problem with log rotation.
    That's our configured log roation:
    Name with location
    Size (kb)
    Format
    No.of Backups
    1.
    D:\CSCOpx\log\dcrclient.log
    102400
    gz
    3
    2.
    D:\CSCOpx\log\ICServer.log
    102400
    gz
    3
    3.
    D:\CSCOpx\log\syslog.log
    1024000
    gz
    5
    The backup directory is the same as the usual log directory. The size of the 3 files is already bigger than the configured size in log roation, see:
    dcrclient.log     2,1 GB
    ICServer.log     1,1 GB
    syslog.log        9,7 GB
    After the log roation configuration we restarted the daemon manager, but it's not working. There are no backup files created and the 3 files are still growing.
    Regards
    Hendrik

    After you configure the log rotation you need and restart the daemons, you need to schedule the job. The schedule buttong is available under
    Common Services -> Server -> Admin -> Log Rotation.

  • Extended format of access.log and log rotation

    I am using WebLogic Server 6.1sp1. I want to use extended format of web
    server access log. I also want to use log rotation based on date. But it
    seems not to work together. After my investigation I can say:
    - access.log in common format can be rotated based on date an on size,
    - access.log in extended format (either in its default form or
    completely redefined) cannot be rotated neither based on date nor size.
    In the second case at first time WebLogic tries to rotate logfile
    IOException is thrown with a message like "java.io.IOException: Failed
    to rename log file on attempt to rotate logs". Than it throws
    IOException with a message "Exception flushing HTTP log file. (Bad file
    descriptor)." when it tries to flush content of logfile to the disk.
    After that WebLogic server stops to write to access.log.
    Is it possible to rotate access.log in extended format?

  • Enable logging for FTP server in 10.8

    Can't figure out how to enable 10.6-style logging for FTP server in 10.8. It used to be configurable via Server Admin allowing you to choose what to log and so on and the logs would go to /Library/Logs. Now I only see some irrelevant stuff in /var/log/system.log and I want to have all the transfers logged on this server. Tried setting parameters via serveradmin ftp:setting = param but it wouldn't appear in the list afterwards no matter what (just copied those off a working 10.6 server).
    As a bonus, I can't figure out where the settings for logging are stored in a 10.6 server either. There's certainly not a mention of a file named FTP.transfer.log. Weird!

    So to help anyone who finds themselves in the same boat and wants to enable ftpd logging on OSX 10.8 proper:
    All operations assume root which is obtained by issuing 'sudo su' or just prefixing every command with 'sudo'.
    First you edit the ftpd's launchd plist file:
    pico /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.a pple.ftpserver.plist
    Find the section titled 'ProgramArguments'. Amend it so it looks like this:
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
            <array>
                    <string>ftpd</string>
                    <string>-ll</string>
                    <string>-r</string>
                    <string>-n</string>
                    <string>-d</string>
                    <string>-c</string>
                    <string>/Library/Server/FTP/Config</string>
                    <string>-L</string>
                    <string>/var/log/ftpd.log</string>
            </array>
    Second you edit /etc/asl.conf. This is necessary to make '-d' (debug) switch work since by default syslog won't log any debug-level messages at all.
    pico /etc/asl.conf
    At the end of the file add the following:
    # ftpd verbose logging
    ? [= Facility ftp] [<= Level debug] file /var/log/ftpdv.log
    Third important step is to reboot the server. ftpd's plist configuration is cached somewhere so restarting just the ftp server alone won't work.
    Now what the added switches do:
    -ll enables some logging (PUT and GET commands only despite what the man pages leads you to believe) to a file specified later by -L /path/to/file
    -d enables debug mode which logs everything - including server's response. May be too verbose but at least you get a log of every single command issued to the server by your clients.

    I have to enable log miner on 11g r2 database
    i am following How to Setup LogMiner [ID 111886.1]
    1. Make sure to specify an existing directory that Oracle has permissions
       to write to by the PL/SQL procedure by setting the initialization
       parameter UTL_FILE_DIR in the init.ora.
       For example, set the following to use /oracle/logs:
         UTL_FILE_DIR =/oracle/database
       Be sure to shutdown and restart the instance after adding UTL_FILE_DIR to the init or spfile.
    I am using spfile, how can i modify the initialization parameter, without modifiying the file,
    We are using oracle fail safe manager, we restart the database using GUI, when i restart it will always read the spfile thats why i want to know how i can add the parameter
    UTL_FILE_DIR without modified init.iora file
    if i do
    1) create pfile from spfile
    and then how can i start the database from this pfile,
    2) create spfile from pfile

    hi,
    you can do with scope=spfile if you don't want to create/modify pfile, for example:
    SQL> alter system set utl_file_dir='/backup/logminer' scope=spfile;
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    SQL> startup
    SQL> sho parameter utl_file_dir
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    utl_file_dir string /backup/logminer
    -- edited
    to startup from pfile Nikolay Ivankin told you the correct answer

  • Audit Error - File Maximum Reached

    Hi,
    We have recently complete a migration from non-unicode MS SQL to unicode Linux Oracle. Upon completion of the migration, the auditing failed. Under SM19, Dynamic Configuration tab, it is showing error 'File Maximum Reached' under the server status.
    I have checked the space and permission for the audit log folder. I have also increased the rsau/max_diskspace/local, rsau/max_diskspace/per_file and rsau/max_diskspace/per_day parameter. Non of these work.
    Does anyone knows the solution or guide me to the location where the error logs for audit are stored?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for providing those information. But I do not want to delete my audit logs, the disk space is sufficient for keeping the logs. I have also previously adjusted those profiles parameters to a high enough value.
    My major problem is the audit is not working. And it is throwing the error 'file maximum reached'.
    Any kind souls can advice me on how to fix this problem? All suggestions are welcome.

  • Log rotation problem

    We are running WLS 8.1.4 and have had a recurring problem with log rotation for quite a long time. It has happened on every machine we've used, running both Windows 2000 and XP. What we want to do is have our logs roll nightly, but it seems that no matter what time we set in the WLS console, the log ends up rolled at an arbitrary time.
    Our current configuration is the following:
    Server File Name: ourServerName_%MM%-%dd%-%yyyy%.log
    Rotation Type: By Time
    Rotation Time: 04:00
    File Time Span: 24 Hrs
    We have tried many permutations on the Rotation Time field, including removing or adding leading zeros as well as seeing if the time difference is constant due to a time zone issue, but no discernible pattern has emerged.
    For instance, the logs for the last few days have been rolled at exactly 2300, despite being set to roll at 0400. Other times it has been set to roll at 0204, and it will roll at 1104. One other thing to note: the minutes are always correct, but the hours are nearly always off.
    Any ideas?

    No, and I can verify that this problem has showed up at multiple sites configured by multiple people besides myself. As we are precisely following the specs laid out in the WLS 8.1 docs, I can only assume this is a bug.

    Just curious what mail clients people use. I am always interested in improving my workflow. Some of my friends are 100% gmail. That is all they use. Others use gmail when they are out and about, but use a desktop mail app when they are at home (fetch
