Develop history after edit in photoshop

Hi,
I had ro reinstall Lr3 and PSC5. after that, when I edit photo in PS and change back to Lr my develop history is blank. it starts when i change something for example I change "fill light +3" it's first registry in "develop history" I can undo it with ctrl+z only.
I think before reinstall i had something like "Edited in photoshop" first registry.
Can I get it back?
Hope, someone will understand what I'm talking about.

I think he's missing the first history step Jim, which indicates the image came back from Photoshop. I just tried it in LR3 and it seems to work for me from a raw (DNG) file.

In Library, set your sort order to Filename instead of Added order and see if the files show up, then.
How are you doing the Save in PS, using Save or Save As—one will show up, one won’t, I think, but I don’t remember which.

  • BUG: LR2.0 shows duplicate drive after edit in photoshop export

Lightroom 2.0 shows a new duplicate drive after edit in photoshop export. file opens as DNG in photoshop, saves as PSD, and saves to the right folder on the hard drive. But lightroom now shows 2 "drive G"'s(that's my image vault drive letter) The folders are correct, the second drive only contains the edited psd files. display in explorer shows the file in the right location with the original DNG file. This is a random event not every edited file displays under the second drive. I have a total of 6 files (I had more, but I moved my image vault to a new drive and fixed the ten I had at that time.)
    Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1
    AMD 64X2 duel core 6000+ 3Ghz
6GB 666mhz Ram PAE force enabled
NVIDIA Gforce 7600 256MB video card (1.75GB total with system shared ram)
    Primary hard drive: 500GB
Hard drive 2: 400GB (system and photoshop paging files and lightroom catalog drive)
Hdrive 3: 1TB (primary image storage)
    user control turned off
    system graphics set to performance
    Duel display
    Lightroom 2.0
    photoshop CS3

No I had to do it manually. When I had lightroom 2, here's what would happen.
    1. My external drive would show up, but all the photos would be marked as missing.
    2. I would then relocate the photos, which I had do do directory by directory. At this time I did not have all of them under a master directory.
    3. As I relocated them, the second drive would show up, which would contain all my directories as I located them.
    4. After I had relocated all the directories, I would delete the now empty duplicate - which has been the original - drive.
    5. After I shut down LR and restarted, the whole process would begin again.
    6. After I installed 2.1, I put all my directories under a parent directory, relocated the parent, it found all the files, automatically deleted the ghost duplicate, and I have not had the problem since.
    Hope all this makes sense,
    Good luck

  • Problem Re-applying Develop settings after roundtrip to photoshop!

I am having a very annoying problem with re applying develop settings back to an image after touching up in photoshop.
    Here is my basic workflow.
1 - import camera files to lightroom (Raw .cr2 Files)
2 - make slects and experiment with color develop settings.
3 - Rest all develop settings.
4 - send to photoshop for skin touch ups via edit in photoshop. OR export .DNG files for my touch up artist.
5 - Re import into lightroom via saving from photoshop to up date the copy it makes or just re-importing if it was a DNG i exported
6 - copy the develop settings from the original then pasting onto the edited version.
When I do this paste the develop settings the image gets totally blown out and is not at all close to the original develop settings I had decided on.
Note: before pasting the develop settings the touched up file is IDENTICAL to the reset original.
This is a Major problem for me and totally makes it impossible to match the original effect.
What am I doing wrong here?

So what should the workflow be?
Do your best on RAW in Lightroom, edit in Photoshop (16bpc, ProPhoto) for final touches that Lightroom cannot accomplish (retouch skin etc.).
if I do an effect then send to photoshop to edit and then back to lightroom is some of the color information lost? say if my effect is really blowing out the whites and I want to change it post photoshop edit am I able to get that color information back?
No, if you blow the highlight in raw, you cannot get them back from a PSD. The point is not to blow them if you don't wish to, then there will be nothing to recover fro a PSD. But if your artistic choice was to blow the highlights in a picture, then there's on difference when you blow them and no point in wishing
to recover them on a latter stage.
Do the photoshop files have the same color range as the raws?
Yes, if you use the ProPhoto RGB space and 16bpc bit depth.

  • Rotation problem after editing in Photoshop

I'm using Lightroom 1.3 and Photoshop CS3 with all the current updates. This problem was the same in LR1 and PS CS2.
I have a mix of orientations in the JPEGs in my library - portrait and landscape. When the photos are imported into LR they appear correct. If I select a bunch of them, open them in PS (using Edit in Photoshop > Edit Originals), run a noise filter, save them, and then go back to LR, the previews for the portrait images are rotated so that all the previews show as landscape.
The portrait images display correctly (except for the fact that they have been rotated) in the Library module - both grid and loupe view). In the Develop module, the image aspect is displayed portrait but the image is as a distorted landscape - the image is rotated and then distorted to fill the portrait oriented space. In the Print module, that same distorted image is fills the portrait oriented page. To be clear, instead of a portrait image appearing in the correct orientation on a portrait page preview, the image is rotated 90 degrees and then stretched to fill the page.
There is a badge on the preview indicating that the metadata is out of sync with the file.
If I rotate the image in LR, the badge goes away and the image appears portrait and undistorted in the Library module's grid and loupe views. The Develop module show the portrait image in the correct rotation, but has been stretched to a landscape aspect. The Print module shows that distorted image rotated to fit the portrait page.
The only way to correct this is to "Read Metadata from file". This resets all the orientation information so that it displays correctly in LR, but all the tags and IPTC information gets erased.
This is most of the reason why I was writing all the metadata into to files until now. I would write the metadata before editing in PS, do my PS edits, and then back in LR I'd "Read the Metadata" from the files to set everything correctly in LR. But of course now that I'm working with Leopard I get screwed if I do this because my files will crash the Finder.
To top it all off, I've run into the "...cannot be saved because the file is in use" problem with some files I opened last night.
Clearly none of these issues are being addressed in Adobe or Apple's updates. Is there a reasonable workaround that will let me:
    1. set metadata and tags and know that they won't either get lost or cause problems
    2. have image orientation respected and displayed correctly
    3. not crash any of the three critical applications on this computer - Lightroom, Photoshop, and Finder.

I really appreciate your explaining this Jao.
I'm going to explain how I got into this situation, in the hopes that it may prove useful to someone (I'm looking at you, Adobe) who wants to understand how the app is being used in the real world.
So as not to break up the narrative, let me just say that I'd be happy (ecstatic, actually) if I could use Lightroom for my entire workflow, but the noise reduction filter in LR is just nowhere near as good as NoiseNinja. (A problem shared by LR, PS, and Aperture.) If I could run NN from inside LR, that would rock.
Oh, and I shoot JPEG because I shoot live events where the lighting is usually crap and I need to be ready at any moment for something interesting to happen. Shooting RAW would be nice, but it's too slow and takes up way too much space.
So here's what I do, (hopefully edited to make the reading non-tedious)
    1. import all photos from source (usually memory cards)
The photos go onto a drive reserved for photos. I shoot events, so everything is organised by date-event. On import I set filenames (date - event name - time stamp.jpg) and keywords.
    2. cull
They get marked "1" (irretrievably useless, to be deleted), "2" (keep just in case), "3" (decent shots), "4" (photos that I want to show to other people), or "5" (this is one of my best this year). Delete the "1"s.
    3. select 20-30 "picks"
I create a folder within the event folder called "Picks" for these photos. Then I duplicate that folder as "Originals"
In doing it this way I can protect myself if I need/want to change my cataloguing application. I'm on my fourth one at this point (Lightroom) and while I am generally finding that LR is meeting my needs more than anything else I've tried, I've been burned in the past (how many of us have regretted letting Aperture put all our photos into an incomprehensible database/folder hell?)
The Picks/Originals structure makes sure that the originals never get touched (because it doesn't show up in LR) and I can quickly find the Picks.
I -was- writing the metadata to the files so the ratings, keywords, and IPTC info was where it should be - attached to the photo. I've stopped doing this for the time being until this whole Finder-craching debacle is corrected.
So why am I not using LR's built "Edit - Copy"/stacking function, which more or less duplicates my process?
Well part of it was my own dumbness - Aperture made the edited copy/variation a Photoshop file, which ballooned my collections with staggering speed. I'm not sure if LR used to do the same thing, or I just made the assumption. My mistake.
The other part of the problem is just the simplicity of having an Originals folder that is effectively ignored. Using LR will mix the "-edited" files in with originals, which is not as efficient or elegant a solution, but I'll give it a whirl.
Thanks for your suggestion. If giving up my Picks/Original process solves the rotation problem then perhaps it's a fair trade.
Still, it seems that the right hand is somehow oblivious to what the left hand is doing in the whole PS/LR thing, and that it ought not work that way.

  • Lightroom 5.5 not selecting images after editing in photoshop cs5

I recently did the 5.5 update and now after cmd E editing in photoshop after I save and close a file it is auto imported into lightroom but not selected.  I am using filters but that is the only variable I could see affecting it.  It used to be done automatically and only takes me a second longer but I'm editing files hundreds at a time and every second counts.

Most likely you need to change the Sort order of your images.  In Library - Grid view there is a tool bar at the bottom of the grid window. If the tool bar isn't visible, hit [ T ] to activate it. Change the sort order to Filename or Capture Time. It is probably set to Added Order.

  • ANy solution to guost folders after editing in Photoshop?

I think I have read only two threads on this problem... But amongst my friends and collaborators, 3 out of 5 experience the "ghost folder" problem when opening a file from LR into Photoshop.
    The problem goes as follow:
    a) In LR2, select RAW file to EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP
    b) edit in Photoshop, then save the file.
    c) going back into LR2, a "gost folder" now appears at the top of all folders in your Library. This is a replica folder name of the original folder where you selected your RAW file to edit in Photoshop. This Ghost Folder now contains your .PSD file you just saved. No other files.
    d) if you check into the original folder in your LR2, your PSD photo does not appear there.
    e) if you check on your hard disk directly, the PSD file appears in the correct folder.
    f) the only way I found to fix this is to:
    i) select original folder in LR2 library
ii) synchronize folder (can take very long in LR2, especially if there are over 150 photos in the folder)
iii) once folder has been synchronized, delete "ghost folder" in LR2 library.
iv) stacking has to be done manually after that.
This is an annoying process to fix this bug to say the least.
Anyone knows if there is a real fix for this problem?

    Thanks Lennart.
The fix you suggested does not fix my Ghost Folder problem.
That said, I finally did find a fix for this problem:
Here's the fix I found, which simply involves selecting Photoshop as an Additional External Editor:
    a) go in your LR2 preferences
    b) under the External Editor tab, under "additional external editor", click on the button CHOOSE and navigate to your Adobe Photoshop folder. Select Photoshop.exe .
    c) ignore LR2 warning that says Photoshop is already configured as your external editor.
    d) now, every time you wish to open a photo in PS from LR, right-click on the photo, select EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP.EXE instead of the first choice (edit in photoshop cs3).
This method will now create a duplicate PSD file right away of your photo in the correct folder. No more Ghost Folder problem. OF course, this means that every time you open a photo in PS, you now have a PSD file in your folder (as opposed to LR2's feature which allows you (normally) to open a photo in PS, and it won't appear as a PSD in your folder until you actually save the file in PS). So we could say this "fix" behaves pretty much the same way LR1.x used to handle opening files in PS.

  • After editing with photoshop and saving, can't find it

    1) After editing a photo with Photoshop, save it, I can't find it. Only the original unedited photo is in my library.
    2) I tried adding a name extension to the DSC...., but can't find that either.
    3) Where can I resize photos using Iphoto editing?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you using Photoshop as described here:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • After editing in Photoshop, unable to save

I'm on a Mac, using LR 3.2 and Photoshop CS4. My image files are on a network drive. Catalog of course is local (since we can't work with networked catalogs).
If I right-click a PSD (not raw file) in Lighroom and "Edit in Photoshop", then edit, when I'm done editing and hit "Save" I get an error message that the file is open/in use by another application. My only option appears to be to "save as" a new file in Photoshop...THEN import that new file in LR...THEN add it to the collection I was working from...THEN delete the old PSD from the collection...THEN delete the old PSD from the drive - since I don't really want to save a bunch of incremental PSDs (that's what layers in Photoshop are for).
I saw a couple of older posts here about the same problem, with older versions of LR. At least one case the user was on a PC, not a Mac.
Is this because I'm working with files on a network volume? Any workarounds?
    Man it's irritating...
    - Bob

    Yep - it works locally.
I had similar problems back when using Expression Media/iView MediaPro - wouldn't let me delete files from the network drive. Perhaps it's related to when I try to delete files in the finder, and get a "this can't be undone" warning.
Well, I got all excited about the idea of launching Photoshop edits from within LR, but I guess I'll go back to my "old" way, which was to export, then go to Photoshop and open the exported file, and work on it. I think if LR doesn't think it's currently managing the file somehow, it won't try to hold onto it and so Photoshop can save without running into problems.
Adobe - maybe this can be addressed?

  • Ratings loss after editing in Photoshop

I have my LR3 RAW images rated a "1" star.  When I select one to edit in PHotoshop and save it, it shows back up in LR3 with no rating. This is costing me a lot of time to change my ratings to find the image and then put the rating back on.  This never used to happen in LR2. What can I do to change it? I have the box checked for automatic in the catalog settings but it still does not work.
Any fixes to this? Getting frustrated with LR3 already.

Nope, that doesn't work either. But thank you!

  • Refreshing thumbnails/view in iphoto after editing in photoshop

I imported some images into iPhoto 08. The original images were then edited in Photoshop.
Problem: Once I open up iPhoto to look th eimages, they are not updated with the changes unless I go to full size mode. how do i update the views like it does automatically if edited in iPhoto itself.
    Regards,
    Ashwath

    Ashwath:
Here's how you should use Photoshop to edit photos in iPhoto:
Editing photos in iPhoto with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements
1 - setup PS or PSE as theeditor of choice in iPhoto's General preferences.
2 - open the photo to be edited, perform the desired edits and use the Save menu option.
3 - if you get this window go ahead and save.
4 - if your edit is one that has PS/PSE changing the format to its own, psd, the you'll get this window.
5- choose the option you want and save as indicated in the screenshot.
These methods will let iPhoto know an edit has taken place and the thumbnail will be updated to reflect the edit.

  • Error in uploading images on any website after editing in photoshop

For the past one year I have been regularly editing my photographs in photoshop (CS5 and CS3) and uploading them on my blog and my fb page.
However since the past 45 days I edited 5 albums in photoshop but have not been able to upload a single photo on fb or on any other page. I moved browsers trying chrome, fire fox and even IE but nothing helped. I then formatted my laptop and reinstalled CS5 only to know that too was not  helpful.
I tried editing some photos in basic picassa and that worked well and was able to upload fotos on fb and my blog.
I then tried uploading some old photos (edited in photoshop) and they are getting uploaded.
So I am sure this is a recent problem with photoshop. Is any body there facing a similar problem? Does any one has a solution for this unique query?

  • "Unsupported Image Format" in Aperture after editing in Photoshop?

I've had random intermittent problems with some files that I store in Aperture (I'm on 3.4.3) and then edit in Photoshop.  I shoot only in RAW format on a Nikon D300 (.NEF files), and the images import fine.  Some of the images I edit in Photoshop CS6.  Upon saving the image in CS6 and returning to Aperture, I get a black preview image with a silver warning triangle, and it says "Unsupported Image Format".  The info tab shows me that the image is a .tiff file as I expect - and what's odd is when I re-import these images from the folder they're stored in, they display fine as expected.
    What gives?

All good questions, thank you for asking.
    - Aperture is set up to export to 8-bit TIFF files.
    - Photoshop is set as my external editor.
    - To edit an image, when I'm in Aperture I right click on the image and select "Edit with Adobe Photoshop CS6"
    - I don't use Layers in Photoshop, so when the image is returned to Aperture there's only the background layer.
    - The images are saved in PS using "Save", not "Save As".
    - I verified that the file names are .tiff rather than .tif
That is exactly what I am doing, when editing my Canon Raws in PS-CS6, and there is no problem with unsupported image formats. that should work!
and what's odd is when I re-import these images from the folder they're stored in, they display fine as expected.
Where is this folder? Are the images referenced? And if referenced, are they on an external drive? How is the drive connected and formatted?

  • Returning images to Lightroom after edit in Photoshop?

    Hello,
When I export a raw file from LR to Photoshop CS2, as a 16bit Prophoto tiff, it opens with LR's develop settings applied. However, after I have saved the image in Photoshop, when I close the file and revert back to the LR Library the image arrives back in LR with a completely different exposure and histogram? Is this normal? What has happened to the development settings that were applied in LR? My Photoshop working space is Prophoto 16bit.
    Thank you,
    J.

Thanks folks. John, I was using 'Edit in CS' not the 'Export' button. Sorry I didn't make that clear. My problem was that after I closed the photoshopped file LR was applying an "auto tone adjustment" to the new image as soon as it popped up in the LR Library. The adjusted image looked terrible and I had to readjust the develop settings in Lightroom for a second time.
At Jao's suggestion I went into LR's Preferences/Presets and unchecked the 'Apply Auto Tone Adjustments' box.
    Works just fine now. :o)
